During this season of life, I have been looking up encouraging Bible verses to prepare both my heart and my mind for the trials and hard times. One verse that has calmed my anxious heart is Psalm 139:5, which says “ You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.”

To me, this verse says that there is no need to worry about the future. God has gone before you and prepared the way for you. He already knows your future and what it holds, so there is no reason for YOU to fret about it. He has looked into the future and has seen the trials you will have, and he is preparing you for them right now. He places his hand of blessing on your head, which is a comfort to know. He has blessed you greatly and will continue to do so! Not only does God go before you, but He also follows you wherever you go. You are not alone, He is with you! When you feel nervous or anxious, just remember that whatever you are going through is in God’s plan.

God has blessed you in so many ways! Have comfort in knowing that he has gone before you and prepared a way for you!

What makes you feel fear? Is it fear of other people? Is it fear of the future? Is it worry? Is it situations in life? Life can toss circumstances at us that can make us feel downright fearful. Lucky for us, God has given us the steps to conquer fear in His Word.

  1. Declare who God is: The Lord is my light and my salvation, so why should I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
  2. Project a positive future: When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Psalm 27:2
  3. Make up your mind: Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident. Psalm 27:3-4
  4. Abide:The one thing I ask of the Lord – the thing I seek most is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. Psalm 27:4
  5. Meditate on the Word: …delight in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple. Psalm 27:4
  6. Spend time in Prayer: My heart has heard you say “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.” Psa;, 27:8

When you look in the Bible for your answers to life’s toughest questions, you will be sure to find what you are looking for, and sometimes even more than that.

Psalm 23:4 says “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” It is easy to get caught up in fear.

It is much easier to give into the feelings of fear instead of standing our ground. Even though we walk through dark times, times of sadness and anxiety, we don’t have to fear because God is with us. When I am feeling particularly fearful, I stop and pray and ask God to calm my heart. I ask Him to remind me that He has everything under control, and that I don’t need to fear because He is right beside me. I cannot tell you how relieving it is to remember that God has got it all figured out, and I just need to let Him do His thing.

In times of fear or uncertianty, just remember who is behind fear and who is the author of peace!

It is no secret that life can be rough. When our life seems out of control, that is a good time to remind ourselves that God is in control. Whatever you face, amidst the struggles and anxious thoughts and worries of life, God is there strengthening us and helping us. Here are 8 verses that remind us that God is in control.

  1. “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Psalm 56:3
  2. “An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.” Proverbs 12:25
  3. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34
  4. “Tell everyone who is discouraged, Be strong and don’t be afraid! God is coming to your rescue…” Isaiah 35:4
  5. “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1
  6. “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” Psalm 55:22
  7. “Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
  8. “Jesus told him, ‘Don’t be afraid; just believe.’” Mark 5:36

God is greater than your worries. He gives us the power to live boldly, fearlessly, and courageously in this life. When everything in life is telling us to be afraid, God’s truth reminds us that we are strong. Replace your fearful thoughts with His words of truth. He knows what concerns you, and He’s got you covered.

Micah 7:8 says “Though I fall, I will rise again.”

This verse is a great reminder to keep going even when you fall, because you will rise up again. Life is this
way. There are peaks, and there are valleys. What comes up must come down. We have great times in life that are followed by not-so-great times. The silver lining during those “down” times is that we know that they will eventually turn around. Even though there are days when we think “this day could not possibly get any worse” and then it does, we can find peace in the promise that though we fall, we will rise again.

Ephesians 3:20 says “God has more in store for you than you can even imagine.” Let me tell you, I have pretty big dreams, and the fact that God has more in store for me than that is mind blowing!

God has bigger plans for you than you can even comprehend. Do you sometimes feel like your life isn’t going anywhere or you aren’t moving forward? Do you feel like giving up on your big dreams because things just aren’t panning out the way you thought they would? Don’t get caught up in the negative. God’s plans for your life may not be what YOUR plans are. They may be totally opposite of what you thought your life would look like! But let me tell you, God’s plans are always greater than ours. God has so many wonderful things planned for you! He put you on this earth for a purpose. I sometimes get the feeling that I have no purpose and am just floundering. It is easy to feel this way when we get to a low point in our life. It is important for us to remember, though, that we need to be patient and let God do his thing. Why? Read Ephesians 3:20.

Why do we pray? God knows everything already, so why do we need to tell Him about our troubles or ask Him for wisdom? He is in control of all things, and knows all things. So why pray? Here are 5 great reasons to pray.

  1. We pray because we are God’s children and he loves to hear from us! (Zephaniah 3:17). Just like your dad and mom love to hear from you, God is our father and loves hearing from His children.
  2. We pray because it deepens our trust in God. (Philippians 4:6-7).
  3. We pray because it causes us to depend on God. (Isaiah 40:26).
  4. We pray because it gives us the chance to express ourselves to the Lord. (Psalms 62:8). Just like it feels good to vent about our troubles or gush about great things happening in our lives to the people we love, God loves hearing us express our ups and downs to Him.
  5. We pray because it’s an amazing way that we get to be involved with what God is already doing in our world. (1 Thessalonians 5:25). Mother Teresa said that “God shapes the world by prayer. The more praying there is in the world the better the world will be, the mightier the forces against evil.” There is a lot of evil happening in the world. Just turn on the news and that will be obvious. Our prayers help shape the world!

So when you are feeling like your prayers don’t matter, just remember these 5 reasons to pray. Your prayers are so important to God!

God’s 3 Answers to Your Prayers

Sometimes when we pray and ask God for things we expect him to answer our prayers right away. But, he doesn’t always answer us the way we want him to or thought he would. We can be sure, though, that God will answer our prayers in one of 3 ways:

  1. Yes: This is the answer we want to hear the most. We want God to say “yes” to the things we ask from him.
  2. Not Yet: This is probably the hardest answer to hear. It is hard to be patient and wait for things that you want to happen. But, as you have probably heard a million times, good things come to those who wait.
  3. I have something better in mind: In this situation, God asks us to let go of what we think is best and open our hearts for what he has in store for us. This can be painful, to let something go that we have wanted so badly, but it is a comfort to know that God has something even better in mind for you!

When you pray and ask God for things, keep these answers in mind. God may not answer you in the way you wanted him to or in the time frame that you were hoping for, but His ways are better than our ways!

As we grow up, we spend more and more time in a certain place…can you guess what it is? If you guessed work, then you guessed right. Because we spend so much time at our places of employment, whether we work from home or in an office, it is so important that we devote our work to the Lord. Our job is one of the ways that He provides for us and it is also a way to show you have a generous heart. God grows our character and our faith as we rely on him for strength to do our job. Here are 3 prayers to lift up to the Lord about your work.

  1. Thank the Lord that you can do all things through Him who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).
  2. Ask God to help you be content in life and not desire money and possessions and not to want what others have, and ask Him to give you the desire to work hard for what you earn. (1 Thessalonians 41:11-12)
  3. Pray that you will be faithful and wise with your work responsibilities, whether they are big or small. Pray that God would help you be honest, even when it is hard to be. (Luke 16:10-13)

Lastly, pray that God would use you where you work to help show people His love! God has provided you the job that you have for a purpose and for a reason!

Do you ever feel like you are being overlooked or that your voice is not being heard? Mark 5:41 says “Little girl, I say to you, arise!”

Arise! Arise from the troubles in your life. Arise from all of the struggles getting you down. Rise above what people say about you and arise above their expectations. I feel like this verse is encouraging
because it literally tells you to get up and go after it. Arise! God is with you when you do. Rise above depression, anxiety, and other struggles that the devil has put in place in your life to keep you down. Rise up and show others how you can get through anything in life with God on your side.

Keep the faith and keep on truckin’!

What is Bible journaling? Lately I have seen adorable photos on Instagram and Pinterest of artwork in the margins of a Bible. Now, I’m no Picasso, but I do enjoy coloring and drawing as much as the next girl. Bible journaling is using drawings or notes in the margins of your Bible to journal how you feel about the verses, how they are relevant to your life, or prayers regarding the passage. Most people underline or star things in their Bibles, but journaling is taking it one step further!

Do you need a new Bible to begin journaling? Absolutely not! All you need is your own Bible, a pen, and some colors. Also, don’t sweat it if you are not-so-artistically inclined. Your Bible journaling is your own personal art. If you are more of a writer, write in the margins. If you are a note taker, take notes! If you are a doodler, doodle your heart out! Use Bible journaling to write prayers in the margins and date them to come back and write when they were answered, write what God is speaking to you as you read the passage, write sermon notes, or even just thoughts on what you think the scripture is saying in your own words.

Bible journaling is a great way to enhance your quiet time with God. When you are inspired to remember a verse or point, draw or write next to the verse. It is so fun to look back through your Bible and see how you were feeling when you read something or how it spoke to you in that moment. It is also so cool to see how God answers prayers when reading the requests you dated in the margins!

I challenge you to become a Bible journal-er. I’m going to do my best to become one, too!

How God Shows Us He is In Control

As most of you know, this last year has been a year of change for me. I went from going to high school, to going away to college, to realizing that wasn’t where I was meant to be and moved back home. There has also been a ton going on in the midst of all of those changes, so needless to say it has been a nuts year. I saw a quote the other day that spoke right to my situation, and it said “The only way God can show us He’s in control is to put us in situations we can’t control.”how god shows us he is in control

How true is that? In my life, it is painfully true. God doesn’t call us to a comfortable life of contentment, he calls us to do things that take us out of our comfort zone. If you are in a situation where you feel like your life is out of control and it isn’t going the way you planned, just remember that the only way God can show us He is in control is to put us in situations we can’t control. He will pull you out of the situation and will show you that he’s got the whole thing covered.

Prayer is a powerful thing. Having a solid prayer life is essential in strengthening your faith, and it can get you through the toughest of times. I must confess, when life gets hard I have no problem praying for what I want and need, but when my friends are going through tough times I’m not as good about it! The best thing you can do for your friends is pray for them. Here are 4 prayers for your friends and mine.

  1. Jeremiah 17:7-8:Ask that the Lord would bless your friend as she trusts in the Lord. Pray that she would be like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots strong and deep by the stream, and has no need to fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit. Pray that God would make your friend strong, fruitful, and flourishing for His glory.FullSizeRender (84)
  2. Numbers 6:24-26: Pray that the Lord bless your friend and keep her; that He would make his face to shine upon her and be gracious to her; that the Lord would lift up His countenance upon her and give her peace.
  3. Proverbs 3:3-8: Pray that she would trust in the lord with all her heart and not lean on her own understanding. Ask that in all her ways she would acknowledge God, and God will make straight your friend’s path. Entreat the Lord to help your friend not be wise in her own eyes, but to fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
  4. Psalm 138:7-8: Ask that when your friend walks in the midst of trouble, God would preserve her life. Claim His promise to stretch out His hand against the wrath of your friend’s enemies, to deliver her with His right hand. Remind God of His commitment to fulfill His purpose for your friend, and of His steadfast and endless love for her.

I hope my friends pray these prayers over me from time to time as well. What an encouragement to know that someone cares about you enough to lift you up in prayer!

One of the most caring and thoughtful things you can do for your family is to pray for them. Whether you actually tell them you are or whether you keep it to yourself, praying for your family shows them that you deeply love them and that you care for them. It can bless you as well when you see your prayers for them being answered and when you see how God blesses their life because of your faithfulness! Your prayers can also help bring your family together and strengthen it. Here are 4 ways that you can pray for your family.

  1. For a pure heart and mind: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from
it.” – Proverbs 4:23. Pray that your family’s hearts and minds are guarded from the negative influences and sin in the world.
  2. For others to see God’s love through your family: “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16. Pray that your family’s example would point others toward God.FullSizeRender (83)
  3. For courage in the face of hardship: “Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6. Pray that your family will endure with courage through hard times. Be strong and courageous!
  4. For love: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins.” – 1 Peter 4:8. Pray that each member of the family has a genuine love for others.

Hopefully these verses help give you an idea of how to pray for your family! God has so many blessings in store for you and your family in the future!

3 Ways to Find God’s Purpose For Your Life

Have you ever felt a little confused or lost about what God’s calling is for you? Sometimes you see people who seem to have fulfilled their God-given calling by using their gifts to work in ministry or an organization or business and wish that you could feel the same sense of purpose. The truth is, you are not alone. Many Christians around the world become confused about what God has called them to do. To me, everyone has multiple purposes in their life and doesn’t just have one main purpose. I think everyone has a personal purpose, a purpose with their family, and a purpose to others. If you have ever been confused about what God is calling you to do or have no idea what God wants to happen in your life, here are three ways that I have found God shows these things to you.

  1. Look at your past experiences: Many times God allows us to go through something and overcome it so that we can have the desire to help others get through the same thing. Your advice and experience may mean the world to someone. Helping others gives you purpose and inspires others to do the same.FullSizeRender (80)
  2. Other people’s stories: Sometimes when we feel like we don’t know our purpose we can be inspired by others. For example, maybe you went on a mission trip and were impacted greatly by the people you met and the lack of food and basic needs that were not being met, and this inspired you to want to help them. Seeing other’s needs and hearing their stories gave you motivation and you found purpose in helping make their lives better.
  3. Wanting to change: If other people’s stories or even your own story doesn’t help you to identify your purpose, then ask yourself the question “What do I want to change about myself?” or “What do I want to change about the world?” It doesn’t have to be something super deep or drastic, it can even be something as simple as wanting other young women like yourself to feel valued and loved by God. This desire could guide you to finding purpose in helping others or even bettering yourself.

God has a purpose for your life, even when it may not seem that way! He loves you like crazy, and he knows what you are capable of.
