First dates can be the most fun, yet most intimidating, encounters.  Sometimes the conversations flow perfectly and you hit it off right away.  But other times conversations become awkward and you run out of things to talk about!  Since I know from personal experience that those situations can be super awkward, here are five guaranteed non-awkward first date ideas!

  • Go see a movie. Okay, now I know this might be basic but still take it into consideration! It’s not going to be awkward because you’ll be watching a movie the whole time! There won’t be time for awkward pauses or dull conversation.
  • Go to a school sporting event. Whether you’re in high school or college, going to a game together is fun and gives you something to talk about. You can even get a big group of friends to go with you!
  • Go to the zoo. The zoo is always a chill date that’s fun and relaxing! Sometimes during the winter, zoos will do a holiday festival with Christmas lights and music. Keep an eye out for those seasonal events!
  • Go to a food festival. What’s better than dressing up cute and eating good food? Enjoy sampling tasty snacks and seasonal treats with your date!
  • Be a tourist in your own city. Spend the day exploring with your date.  Think of all the cool places in your town that you’ve never tried!  Make a list and go on an all-day adventure!

Try suggesting one of these ideas next time you get asked out on a date! 🙂

Can I be honest with you? First dates terrify me. I spend hours mentally preparing myself, running through conversation topics to bring up if there is an awkward silence. I also do a fair share of social media research on the person, but who doesn’t? I get afraid that I am going to blow it on the first date. It is easy to say “Just take a deep breath, calm down, and be yourself,” but it is not easily done. One tip, though, is to just keep in mind that it is OK if the date goes bad because this person may not be the one, and as long as you have a good time, have fun, and get to know the other person, then the date was a success! Here are the biggest mistakes people tend to make on first dates.

  1. Being late: Don’t leave your date wondering if you are standing them up. That is the worst way to make a first impression!1c766750e1fb499e95a677f0611a33dc
  2. Checking your phone: Our generation has a smartphone addiction problem. There is nothing ruder than implying that whatever is on your phone is more interesting or important than the person you are sitting with! Keep your phone on silent and out of sight.
  3. Focusing on yourself: Keep sarcasm, negativity, and neediness away. Even if you are in a bad mood, try to put it behind you. Also, don’t focus all of the conversation on yourself and neglect your date! Try not to let your nervousness make you ramble on about yourself, I know it can be tough because I do it too!
  4. Act unlike yourself: Don’t try to act like someone you aren’t just to impress your date. Don’t try and show off or be reckless, just do you.

First dates can be nerve wracking, but they can also be super fun and can turn into great relationships!

First dates = one of my least favorite things on the planet. They can be super awkward sometimes, and you get so nervous before them, and ugh. There are a lot of things we cant control when it comes to first dates, and the uncertainty is what makes us so nervous. There are a few things you CAN control that can make the date go more smoothly, and they are how you behave. Here are things you should always do on a first date.

  1. Dress to impress: both him and yourself! Usually, before a first date I try on lots of different outfits in hope of finding one I think will impress my date. Instead of trying to impress HIM, impress YOURSELF. Wear what makes you feel like you! Be confident in what you are wearing and he will notice!FullSizeRender (46)
  2. Be honest: If you are having a good time, say it! And if you aren’t, don’t say “I’m just not feeling it,” but also don’t tell him that you “want to do this again sometime.” If you didn’t like it, just tell him thank you for the date, and if he asks you out on a second one, just be polite and say no.
  3. Be polite: Say please and thank you. People notice when you do and when you don’t! If you want to make a positive impression, mind your manners. Put your phone away and give him your attention.
  4. Just be you: This is the most important point. First impressions are so so important, so make sure you give your date a good look at who you are. If you are an outgoing person, be outgoing! If you are not, don’t force it! Don’t be someone you think your date would like, just be yourself.

And finally…have fun! Yes, first dates are nerve wracking, but they can be the start of a beautiful thing!

Not only is dating scary, FIRST dates are even scarier! You usually don’t really know the person, you are nervous, the buildup of the whole thing can give you date-induced anxiety, and you want to be able to put your best foot forward and make the best impression possible. Here are a few ways to beat the nerves and put your most date-ready self out there.

  1. Put your phone away: Checking your phone in front of your date tells them that you are bored and not interested in them. If you have to check your phone, excuse yourself to the restroom and do it there. It is the polite thing to do!
  2. Ask questions: Ask them about themselves, and not just the everyday questions like “what do you want to study in college” or “what kind of job do you have”, ask things like “what has been your favorite place to travel to” and “if you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be”. These kinds of questions let the person know that you are interested in their likes and also helps you learn more about them.FullSizeRender (72)
  3. Stay positive: Even if they were late to pick you up or if you had a bad day, try and stay positive and optimistic during your date. Positive people are likeable people!
  4. Stay away from talking about your ex: If you recently got out of a relationship or even if you haven’t dated in a while, stay away from talking about past relationships. If they ask, just say that it didn’t work out but you learned a lot and leave it at that.
  5. Be honest: At the end of the date, if you had a good time, say so! If not, just say thank you for taking you out and leave it at that. Don’t play games, just be honest. Honesty is attractive!

Dating can be rough, but it can also be a lot of fun! Keep these tips handy for the next time you need to make a fab first impression.

What to Wear on a First Date

Ever been on a first date? Odds are, if you have, you stood in front of your closet and thought “I have nothing to wear! HELP!” Have no fear, Chelsea is here with all you need to know about what to wear on a first date.

First things first, make sure you pick out your outfit the night before.  You don’t want to be thinking about it all day, and running around your room 15 minutes before your date is supposed to pick you up because you cannot find your favorite pair of jeans with the rhinestones on the pockets! Having your outfit picked out the night before will make you feel more prepared and ready for your date! what to wear on a first date chelsea crockett

When you are dressing for your date, make sure that what you are wearing reflects you and your personality. You want your date to know who you are! Wear colors that compliment your skin tone and make your eyes pop. Also, wear jewelry that accents your outfit, but doesn’t overtake it. Wear makeup that accents your natural beauty and accents your favorite parts of your appearance.

If you are going on a date in the fall or winter months, wear trendy layers and pretty scarves that match your eyes. Also, you can never go wrong with a fab pair of dark skinny jeans and your favorite riding boots! If you are going on a date in the summer time, make sure to wear shorts or dresses that are appropriate length. Guys like respectable girls!

The very last accessory you will need is a smile. Wearing a smile shows you have confidence in yourself! Also, whatever you wear, make sure you feel confident. A guy will be able to tell if you are uncomfortable, and actions speak louder than words.

Now go knock em dead, ladies!
