As you all know, I have recently started stepping up my workout game! Ever since then I have had so much more energy and have noticed an amazing difference in my mood! I want to give you all a few reasons why you should get off your booty and crank out some jumping jacks!

 

1. Relieves you of stress. Had a bad day at home or school? Go on a walk or run and see how much it can help de-stress you!

2. Keeps your brain fit. Want to be the next Bill Gates? Then get movin’!

3. Improves skin tone and health. Exercise can help relieve your skin of acne and blemishes!chelsea crockett

4. Makes you feel happier. I can totally vouch for this! When I am working out with my group of friends, we have a total blast!

5. Keeps your body fit and active. This one is kind of a given!

I am not much of a coffee girl (unless it is ¾ creamer and ¼ coffee!) so I had to find a new way to get my caffeine fix to put a little pep in my step. That is where green tea came it! It is a much healthier source of energy than coffee. What I didn’t know, though, was that green tea has SO many other great health benefits! It has been called “the healthiest drink on the planet”. Let’s find out why!

  1. Increases fat burn and physical performance: Green tea has been shown to increase fat burning and increaseGreen-Tea your metabolism! And because green tea gives you natural, healthy energy it can increase your physical performance when exercising my mobilizing fatty acids from fat tissues and making them available for use as energy! Also, green tea doesn’t make you gittery like coffee does.
  2. Can improve brain function and make you smarter: Green tea doesn’t just keep you awake, it can also make you smarter! It gets all of your neurotransmitters firing which gets your brain up and at ‘em. green tea has also been shown to improve mood, reaction time, and memory!
  3. Anti-aging: You may think that it is a bit early to be thinking about this topic, but it is NEVER too early! Not only does green tea improve your brain function at this time, but it also protects your brain as you get older! Green tea can also delay the signs of skin aging, keeping your skin nice and young looking!

There are tons and tons of reasons that you should work green tea into your daily diet, and I’ve only mentioned a few! I love the way green tea makes me feel, and I know you will too!

If you follow me on any social media whatsoever, you know that I love to run. Actually, I love to exercise in general! But running is my absolute fav. I love how I can put in my headphones and just have some “me” time while pounding the pavement. For some people, running can be a method of torture. When your gym teacher tells you that you will have to run the mile soon, you die a little inside. Have no fear! There are a few easy ways to make running easier and maybe even enjoyable!images (18)

Make it fun: If you aren’t having fun, then you are totally going to have zero motivation to do it. Bring your best
friend or your dog along! Explore new running routes. Wear cute workout clothes! That one always motivates me ;). Listen to your favorite book on tape or songs while you run.

Slow it down: There is no reason that you have to start off your running routine with a 7 minute mile or 500 meter dash! Take it slow and steady. You should feel like you’re breathing faster than you would if you were just walking, but not huffing and puffing so badly that your lungs are burning. Let your pace feel natural!

Make time for it: in order for your body to get used to running and other cardio activities, you have to be consistent. Try to stick to a weekly running schedule! This will keep you on track and make sure that you are training your body the way it needs to be trained.

Do you know what “AMRAP” means? It means “as many rounds as possible”. This is a popular style of workout in crossfit, and I do this kind of workout a lot as well! It is quick, easy, and effective! You don’t need any equipment for this workout, so you can do it any time anywhere. Here is a 20 minute workout where you repeat the rounds as many times as you can in that time. Here are the exercises!

10 burpees

20 push ups

30 sit ups

40 squats

50 second plank

It is so cool seeing how many rounds I can burn through in the short amount of time that I am given! It is so rewarding. If you have 20 minutes to spare, knock this workout out of the park!

Hello Insiders,

            Welcome to 2014!  I can’t believe how quickly time goes by.  Doesn’t it feel like just yesterday you were a little kid?  When looking back on life, I’m sure you can find a lot of things to be thankful for.  I know I can!  As you get older, it’s important to focus yourself on more important things, rather than material goals.  Focus on being a better you and making others happy!
            Getting into the high school and college scene can be fun, but never forget about your family or spirituality.  This year, I challenge you to spend more time with your family and with God.  I know it can be hard to pay grandma a visit when you have a million things to do, but just think about the joy that it will bring to her!  Also, focus on becoming closer with God.  Buy a devotional, talk with others, or download some spiritual music on your iPod.  I promise, it’s not that hard!Chelsea Crockett- eating healthy

            You always hear of the classic line, “I’m going to lose weight this year.”  STOP.  Instead of saying “losing weight” say, “I’m going to be healthy this year.”  As long as you exercise and eat healthy, then who cares if you are stick thin!  Focus on being a healthier you, not a skinnier you. 

            Come up with a list of things to challenge yourself with this year.  They don’t have to be resolutions, just small things to work on.  With a few simple tweaks in your lifestyle, you’ll discover a happier you.

chelsea crockett smoothieIn my book, there is nothing more refreshing than a fruit smoothie. Smoothies are a great healthy snack! They are also the perfect breakfast food! This next smoothie I am going to introduce to you is jam packed with foods that will give you energy and keep you full for hours on end!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup coconut milk
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1 cup spinach
1 large banana, peeled
1 large green apple, peeled and chopped
2 tablespoons shaved coconut
1 cup ice

Put the coconut milk, yogurt, spinach, banana, apple, coconut, and ice into your blender and blend the mixture until smooth. Viola! You now have a fruity, coconut-y, energy packed smoothie that will keep you full and focused all day long!
