Having clear, healthy skin is an automatic self-esteem booster!  Unfortunately, maintaining clear skin can be a challenge.  It’s almost impossible to keep zits off our faces!!  Luckily, there are things you can do in your everyday life to keep pimples away and clear skin in the forefront.

  1. Establish a daily morning and night routine. This routine should consist of a complete face wash followed with moisturizer.
  2. Keep greasy, oily foods to a minimum. Your skin reacts by producing zits when you consume these types of foods.
  3. Make sure to get 7-8 hours of sleep every night! “Beauty rest” is the real deal!
  4. Try incorporating healthy skin foods into your diet like fish, avocados, pomegranates, and tomatoes.Chelsea Crockett- eat healthy for your skin
  5. Go without makeup! Whenever you’re having a lazy day, take a break from makeup and never wear it to sleep. Your skin needs to breathe every once in a while.
  6. Try not to touch your face. Your hands carry dirt and oil that should stay off your face!
  7. Always wear sunscreen. This will keep your skin looking youthful longer.
  8. Exfoliate a few times a week! Your skin needs a good deep cleaning every so often.
  9. Never over wash or over moisturize your face. Your skin creates natural oils that are healthy for the skin. If you are constantly washing them off, then your skin will react by creating more oil. Yuck!

If you live by these skin conscious rules, then you’ll be on the right track to clear, healthy skin all the time!

Some days, I like to get into a health kick… and with breakfast being the most important meal of the day, what better way to start it off with a good, nutritious breakfast? I recently found a simple little meal that provides both vitamins and a delicious tasteJ! It also doesn’t take up a lot of time in the mornings and is perfect if you are on the go!

If you’re a fruit lover, then you will LOVE these breakfast parfaits. You can make them almost any way you want! First, you need to pick out ingredients that you or your family likes best. For example, I love bananas so that would definitely be one of my first choices! The list you need is short and simple: yogurt, granola, and whatever fruit you prefer. I suggest buying around three different types of fruit and yogurt to mix it up a little!Chelsea Crockett - Breakfast Parfait

Grab a couple of small glasses and fill it half way with whatever kind of yogurt you prefer. Then top it with some granola and the fruit to go with it! Take the one on the right for example. This person put vanilla yogurt, granola, some berries on top! It’s making my mouth water just thinking about it!

So next time you wake up craving something delicious and nutritious, try whipping up your own fruity breakfast parfait, whatever way you like it!

Do you get nasty headaches? I know that when I have a headache, it always seems to put a damper on my day. What I DIDN’T know is that there are actually foods that you can eat that will help fight your headache. Ill show em to you so you can save your noggin some hurtin!cherries

  1. Cherries: Cherries actually have antioxidants that help your body put a shield up to block pain!
  2. Spinach: Spinach is literally the world’s best superfood. Vitamin B2, which is found in spinach, has a relaxing effect on your brain, which will ease the pain your body is experiences. Want a headache free day? Have spinach for lunch.
  3. Bananas: Bananas contain vitamin B6, which is a kick in the butt to headaches! The vitamin also increases the levels of serotonin in your brain, which acts as an antidepressant, and also lowers the amount of pain your body is feeling.
  4. Watermelon: One of the biggest causes of headaches is dehydration. Next time you are hungry and also have a headache, grab a slice of watermelon before you pop a Tylenol. Watermelon is a food rich in water, so it will help to quickly rehydrate your body.

Headaches are no bueno, but knowing that I can eat to get rid of them is definitely a plus! J

I can’t believe how hot it is outside!  Which means summertime is in full force here in the U.S.  Our summers are pretty hot here in the Midwest.  I’m always looking for a refreshing healthy drink that helps to beautify my skin and body. I’ve recently started experimenting with ice water and different fruits.  You should give it a try!

You can buy strawberries, blueberries, cherries, oranges, limes, grapes…..the list is endless. First, wash your fruit. Then cut it up and squeeze the juice into the glass. Drop the fresh fruit into the glass and fill it with water and ice.  Have fun experimenting with which fruits taste best together for your taste buds! One of my favorites is cherries, strawberries, and oranges. It gives my water a sweet taste with healthy vitamins and no useless calories! Chelsea Crockett - Fruit Drink

Another option is to add cucumbers, watermelon, and mint herb. It’s a refreshing drink with a different twist. No matter what you add in your bottle, it’s guaranteed to be 100% healthy for you and your body. Another tip is to freeze your grapes before you add them in your water. When they’re frozen, they act as ice cubes to keep your drink ice cold! The possibilities really are endless. Give it a try, let me know your favorite concoction, and I’ll have to try it out for myself! Enjoy!

Cheers! – Chelsea

Eating healthy can be tough, especially when you’re not used to it!  The easiest way to ease yourself into a healthy diet is to make a few simple changes here and there.  By swapping out a few bad choices for good choices, you will start to notice yourself eating healthier and healthier day by day.

  1. Many people don’t realize how much sugar is in juice. Can you believe there are 24 grams of sugar in one cup of orange juice?! Instead of having your morning juice, have a fresh orange for breakfast. You will cut down on the sugar and gain some fiber!  Chelsea Crockett- sugar in juice
  2. Bagels are packed full of carbs and sugar and can be extremely filling. Try an English muffin instead of a bagel. This can even be used as bread for a sandwich!
  3. If you love chips and can’t give them up, then buy baked chips! Normal chips are fried in oil high in fat. Baked chips are more natural!
  4. Instead of ordering an appetizer at dinner, opt for a side salad instead. Try to order a clear dressing such as Italian, instead of a creamy dressing like Ranch.
  5. No more soda! Try sparkling water!
  6. If you love sweets, then try dark chocolate over milk chocolate. Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants which contributes to multiple health benefits!

Eating healthy isn’t hard; it just takes some will power and a good grocery list!

Love you all!

Are you in need of a quick cool down snack? Then try this super fast sorbet in a bag! The serving is just the right size for the Insider in need of a quick sweet treat!

Ingredients:chelsea crockett

  • One gallon size Ziploc® brand Freezer Bag
  • One pint size Ziploc® brand Freezer Bag
  • 6 tablespoons rock salt
  • One tray of ice cubes
  • One half cup juice
  • Optional: cream, sugar
  1. First, make the ice bag. To do this, empty a full try of ice cubes into a 1 gallon Ziploc bag.
  2. Second, make the juice bag.  Pour half a cup of fruit juice into a 1 pint Ziploc freezer bag. To make the sorbet creamier, add one cup of cream and a tablespoon of sugar here. Squeeze all the air out of the bag and check that you securely seal the bag, and place it into the large bag of ice.
  3. Next, wrap the bag in a towel and shake it for five minutes. Remove the bag that once held the fruit juice, and check out your fresh bag of sorbet. Wipe the ice, salt and water off the outside of the sorbet bag so it doesn’t get in the sorbet. Scoop your sweet treat into a bowl and enjoy!

I am so excited to make my own personal sorbet. Are you?

XOXO, Chels

Chocolate bars, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake… what dessert isn’t good with chocolate? No matter what recipe I choose to make, I try to pick one that has plenty of chocolate in it… and I know I’m not the only one! That’s why I want to share a recipe called “Chocolate Heaven” with all of my lovely insiders :).

First, take a trip to the grocery store and purchase these several ingredients: 1 box of brownie mix, 2 small packages of chocolate pudding (4 cups), 1 12 oz. bucket of cool whip, 12 oz. of Heath bars, and 1 cup of chopped pecans (optional).Chelsea Crockett - Chocolate Heaven

Second, make the brownies as instructed on the box and let them cool. Then break up the brownies into chunks and spread half of them out in the bottom of a large bowl. Next, pour out two of the pudding cups on top of the brownies. Take half of the bucket of cool whip and pour that over the pudding. Follow that with half of the heath and half of the cup of chopped pecans. Repeat this again so you have two layers of chocolate heaven!

Third, enjoy! Serve your delicious treat by simply scooping out however much you want. Make sure you get all the way down to the last layer, you wouldn’t want to miss out on any of the ingredients! Let me know how yours turns out!

Love, Chelsea

Nothing sounds better than laying by the pool, enjoying tasty food, and hanging with good company. If you have a pool, you are destined to invite a few people over every once and a while and do just that. After you have your guests, that’s already two things crossed off your list. Here are three of my favorite poolside dip recipes that are simple to make and amazing to taste that will make your pool day list complete!

Staying healthy for the summer is something I like to keep in mind when making food. If you haven’t heard of marshmallow dip then you are in for a treat! Although the dip itself isn’t the healthiest, you still dip fruits such as strawberries and grapes into it. All you need is an eight ounce package of Philadelphia cream cheese and a jar of whipped marshmallow. Mix these two together and store it in your refrigerator until your guests arrive!

Chelsea Crockett - Buffalo Chicken DipSomething that is even more addicting than marshmallow dip is buffalo chicken dip. Buffalo chicken dip includes Philadelphia cream cheese, chicken (obviously), Frank’s hot sauce, cheddar cheese, and ranch dressing. There are a few ways you can make this dip, so just google it online and pick what recipe you want to go off of!

Lastly, you have to try out Harry and David’s cream cheese dip. You can go to any Harry and David’s store and buy a jar of their classic relish. Mix it with an eight ounce package of cream cheese and voila! You will have a yummy dip for crackers or Tostitos. It’s delish!

Enjoy!  – Chelsea

Backyard BBQ Game Ideas

With Fourth of July just around the corner, many of you may be going to or hosting a backyard BBQ!  Who doesn’t love BBQ ribs with some grilled corn on the cob and cheesy potato casserole?  I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!  While the food is always delicious, sometimes it’s fun to add a little pizazz to your party by adding some backyard BBQ games.  One of my favorites is an old fashioned egg toss.  Everyone grabs a partner and an egg.  You face your partner, arm’s length apart, and toss the egg to him/her.  Then, everyone takes one giant step back away from his/her partner.  You toss again.  If your egg drops, then you and your partner are out.  The game continues until the last team stands alone, hence the winners!

Another game that I have heard of has to do with eating delicious hot dogs.  Who wouldn’t want to join in on that :)?  You cover a hot dog with ketchup or mustard and dangle it from a string.  Then ask a partner to eat the dangling hotdog while holding their arms behind their back.  You can hang quite a few dogs at a time.  Ready, set, go….the first person to eat his/her hot dog is the winner!

Chelsea Crockett - Soda BoxesLastly, is a game called Soda Shoes.  Over the next week, save and collect some empty cases of soda boxes like the ones on the left.  These will be used as giant shoes!  Divide your guests into two relay teams.  Each player slips his/her feet into the “shoes” and races down and back for the relay.  The team whose players finish first wins!

Don’t forget to purchase some fun prizes to give to the winners of the games.  I hope these ideas help to make your party a success!

Good luck! – Chelsea

July 4th is almost here and I’m sure many of you will be celebrating poolside or at the beach!  When my family gets together with friends, we like to get creative with our red, white, and blue desserts!  They are fun to make and sometimes even healthier than the usual party cakes and desserts.  Here are a few ideas to help get your creative juices flowing.

One simple idea is to alternate cut up strawberries, bananas, and blueberries on skewers. Place the skewers on a fancy tray with some marshmallow/cream cheese dip.  It’s that healthy and that simple!

Another idea is to bake a cake (or brownies) in a 9 x 13 pan and ice it with white icing.  Place sliced strawberries in rows across the top.  Leave the top left corner open for some blueberries.  You now have a dessert that looks like an American flag! Chelsea Crockett - Fourth of July Treat

One of my favorite desserts is made in a truffle bowl.  You buy some angel food cake and cut it into cubes.  Place a layer of cake cubes in the bottom of the truffle bowl.  Add a layer of whipped cream, and then a layer or sliced strawberries and blueberries…..repeat layering until your bowl is filled.  Top with whip cream and a few decorative berries….easy and delicious!

For more ideas, look on Pinterest or google some red, white, and blue desserts.  They are so colorful, fun to make, and represent our independence day just right!

Enjoy! – Chelsea

Staying healthy and fit is always on my goal list for the summer. My family and I have recently jumped on a smoothie kick. They are packed with nutrition and taste heavenly!  You can blend together fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, spinach (yes!), and even kale for some extra vitamins.  At first we started following online recipes by measuring and adding low fat yogurt, apple juice, etc.  Some recipes even call for oatmeal, cereal, peanut butter, or nuts.  After you master your smoothie skills, you can let your imaginations run and whip up your own smoothie recipe! I love smoothies especially in the summer. They’re super healthy and are perfect after a nice run or work out.

If you want to get started, Chelsea Crockett - NutriBulletthen be sure to buy a good blender. At Target, you can buy a small blender called a NutriBullet which is easy to use and fast to whip up. It’s small and comes with some cups to make your smoothies in and drink right from the cup itself.  Although this is just a suggestion, any blender can work!  Next, get online and find a couple good recipes that you think you’d like to try and shop for the ingredients.  After you get used to making some to-die-for smoothies, then you can start to get creative with your own concoctions!  Be sure to tweet me your favorites!  I might want to give them a try!

Happy blending! –Chels 🙂

For my younger insiders, I wanted to pass something on to all of you that was a little part of my childhood! I was thinking back about when I was younger and I remembered when my mom brought home some friendship bread in a bag from work. It came with a ten day recipe to follow. After the ten days, you divided the dough and shared it and the recipe with friends. It was AMAZING to eat!Chelsea Crockett - Friendship Bread

It’s actually called Amish Friendship Bread. The recipe for the entire process is pretty long but simple. If you google “Amish Friendship Bread Recipe” you’ll easily find the starter recipe and the ten day long instructions! Amish Friendship Bread is kind of like a chain letter. You pass it on! At the end of the ten days, you divide it into four parts, bake with one, and give the other three away. It’s like passing around a little flour and love from everyone’s kitchen. The bread is absolutely heavenly to eat. For those of you who are still too young to whip up something in the kitchen by yourself, this is perfect for you! Just ask your mom or dad to help you out. It’s a super fun activity for you and your friends to do. Especially with summer coming up, it’s the perfect time to try it out, pass it on, and enjoy!

Love, Chelsea

Whenever I’m hungry, I go straight to the kitchen and snack on some of my favorite fruits and vegetables. Okay okay okay, maybe they’re not my first choice. Usually my stomach is craving some sweets and dessert treats! Something I like to do during my lazy summer days is experiment with some recipes. Here is one in particular that tastes absolutely ahhh-mazing, and with summer coming up, what’s a better time to try it out for yourself?Chelsea Crockett - Pretzel Bark

First off, you’ll need to take a trip to the grocery store and pick up a few ingredients: a 1-pound bag of mini pretzel sticks, you’ll only use about half of the bag, 2 sticks of butter (about one cup), 1 cup of packed light brown sugar, 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips, and sea salt (optional).

Second, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Cover the bottom of the baking sheet with aluminum foil to avoid the pretzels sticking to it! In a saucepan, over medium heat, mix together to butter and brown sugar. When it starts bubbling, let it sit still for 3 minutes. Then pour the mixture over the pretzels laid out on the baking sheet. Bake it for only 5 minutes then remove and pour the chocolate chips all over the top of the pretzels! Let the dessert cool at room temperature for as long as you like, or as long as you can stand it! Then dig in, YUM!

Enjoy!- Chelsea

Doughnuts are so incredible. But you know what is totally un-incredible about them? Their ingredients! I found a recipe for baked- not fried- cinnamon and sugar doughnuts that is ah-mazing! The best part? You don’t have to feel totally guilty after downing a few of them!

Ingredients

1 egg

¼ cup granulated sugar553123b

1 cup milk, heated to about 115 degrees

1 tablespoon active dry yeast

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2½ to 3½ cups unbleached flour, divided, plus more for kneading

1 stick butter cut into cubes

For the cinnamon-sugar coating:

1 stick butter, melted

1 cup sugar + 2 tablespoons cinnamon, mixed together

Instructions

1. In the bowl of your mixer, beat the egg and sugar on medium speed for about 1 minute. Add in the milk, yeast, salt, and vanilla. Turn the mixer to low, and then add in the 2 cups of flour. Attach the dough hook of your mixer and then on medium speed, add the butter one piece at a time until smooth. Reduce the speed to low, and then add the rest of the flour until the dough sticks to the hook and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. The dough should be soft and moist, but not sticky.

2. Lay the dough out on to a floured surface and knead until smooth. Place in a mixing bowl coated with cooking spray and cover with a damp towel. Let the dough rise until it has doubled in volume, or about 1 hour.

3. Punch down the dough and roll it out to about ½ inch thickness. With biscuit cutters, cut out 3″ circles with 1″ holes. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, place the doughnuts 1 inch apart. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit on top of the preheating oven until almost doubled in size, or about 25 minutes.

4. Bake until light golden in color, 5-8 minutes. Dip the hot doughnuts in the melted butter and then coat with the cinnamon and sugar mixture.

Serve your delicious doughnuts immediately, because they are best eaten the same day they are made!

XOXO, Chels
