In honor of Fourth of July coming up, it’s the perfect time for some American flag DIYs to help put together your red, white, and blue outfit. With Pinterest being the hub for all things DIY, I found a craft that’s simple and produces the cutest, festive results! You’ll need a few tools and materials to get started.

As far as what you need, there’s not much!Chelsea Crockett - American Flag Cuffs You’ll need a pair of jeans that can be cuffed (preferably boyfriend style or ripped), safety pins, an American flag printed material, thread, and a needle. You can either find an American flag material at a craft store or substitute something as simple as a flag bandana. After you have the right tools and materials, you’re ready to begin your DIY!

  • First things first, turn your jeans inside out.
  • Pick which piece of material you want for each cuff and use safety pins to attach the fabric to the jeans.
  • Then, like the picture above, use the thread and needle to sow the material on!
  • Turn your jeans right-side out to enjoy your new patriotic pants!

It’s as easy as that! I can’t wait to see how yours turned out this holiday!

Fourth of July is the perfect day for boating, barbeques, and celebrating the awesome country we get to call home! It’s also the perfect day for dressing up in your most stylish red, white, and blue gear. This year, I decided to put together a few looks that put a little twist on fourth of July attire.

Chelsea Crockett - Fourth of July JacketThe first look is the picture on the left. I love this statement jacket that pairs perfectly with a simple outfit! A pair of black shorts and a black tank top is all you need with this jacket. Finish it off with a cute pair of sunglasses and sandals or converse. If you start to feel the heat, roll up your sleeves like she did on the left!

Depending on where you live, it may be too chilly to wear shorts and a cute tank.Chelsea Crockett - Fourth of July Sweater You may need long sleeves or pants. Depending on what events you’re attending on the fourth will determine how festive you’re going to dress. If you’re attending a theme party, why not go all out and get a fun pair of fourth of July leggings?! If you’re just hanging out with friends, try a flag sweater like the one on the right to pair with some jean shorts.

These are just a couple looks for the upcoming holiday! What are you wearing this year? Tell me below!

The Fourth of July is just around the corner.  What better way to top off your star spangled look than with red, white, and blue nail art?  Thank God we have the freedom to have fun with patriotic nails :).  Some girls (like my mom!) want to have fun, flashy, colorful nails.  You can fill your nail beds with stars, stripes, glitter and more.Chelsea Crockett - Fourth of July Nail

Other tastes, like the nails on the right, are more subtle. I’m more of a simple nails kind of girl so these are what I would go for! (Plus they’re easier to create!)  You can decorate with polka dots, chevron patterns, stripes, anything patriotic! You could paint all of your nails red but leave your ring finger to carry the flair of the US flag or simply a white star like the picture on the right.  It’s exciting to play around with your nails especially on holidays because there are so many different ways to decorate them.

I hope you enjoy family, friends, and fireworks on this Fourth of July! – Chelsea

For our family, the Fourth of July means a BBQ picnic to celebrate our country with friends and family.  And a good old fashioned picnic means some yummy food!  This year, however, I’d like to keep the calories low instead of tons of tempting sweets and desserts.  It is swimsuit season :).  I’ve found some delicious treats that mainly involve red, white, and blue fruits, which means low calories are present!Chelsea Crockett - Patriotic Fruit

You really don’t need a recipe for most of these fruit snacks.  You just have to reenact some of the following pictures and voila, you have a USA fruit display.  It’s so simple to put some yogurt in a glass bowl.  Then add a thick layer of blueberries and top that with some watermelon cut into stars. You can easily use a star cookie cutter to do so!  How easy is that?

You can also make the USA flag with blueberries in the corner and rows of raspberries, white cheese cubes, and strawberries placed in order to represent the stripes.  If you need to add some sweetness, place a couple bowls of melted white chocolate and milk chocolate on the side of the dish.  Guests can dip the fresh fruit into the chocolate if they’d like.  Let me know your healthy ways to celebrate this July!

Backyard BBQ Game Ideas

With Fourth of July just around the corner, many of you may be going to or hosting a backyard BBQ!  Who doesn’t love BBQ ribs with some grilled corn on the cob and cheesy potato casserole?  I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!  While the food is always delicious, sometimes it’s fun to add a little pizazz to your party by adding some backyard BBQ games.  One of my favorites is an old fashioned egg toss.  Everyone grabs a partner and an egg.  You face your partner, arm’s length apart, and toss the egg to him/her.  Then, everyone takes one giant step back away from his/her partner.  You toss again.  If your egg drops, then you and your partner are out.  The game continues until the last team stands alone, hence the winners!

Another game that I have heard of has to do with eating delicious hot dogs.  Who wouldn’t want to join in on that :)?  You cover a hot dog with ketchup or mustard and dangle it from a string.  Then ask a partner to eat the dangling hotdog while holding their arms behind their back.  You can hang quite a few dogs at a time.  Ready, set, go….the first person to eat his/her hot dog is the winner!

Chelsea Crockett - Soda BoxesLastly, is a game called Soda Shoes.  Over the next week, save and collect some empty cases of soda boxes like the ones on the left.  These will be used as giant shoes!  Divide your guests into two relay teams.  Each player slips his/her feet into the “shoes” and races down and back for the relay.  The team whose players finish first wins!

Don’t forget to purchase some fun prizes to give to the winners of the games.  I hope these ideas help to make your party a success!

Good luck! – Chelsea

July 4th is almost here and I’m sure many of you will be celebrating poolside or at the beach!  When my family gets together with friends, we like to get creative with our red, white, and blue desserts!  They are fun to make and sometimes even healthier than the usual party cakes and desserts.  Here are a few ideas to help get your creative juices flowing.

One simple idea is to alternate cut up strawberries, bananas, and blueberries on skewers. Place the skewers on a fancy tray with some marshmallow/cream cheese dip.  It’s that healthy and that simple!

Another idea is to bake a cake (or brownies) in a 9 x 13 pan and ice it with white icing.  Place sliced strawberries in rows across the top.  Leave the top left corner open for some blueberries.  You now have a dessert that looks like an American flag! Chelsea Crockett - Fourth of July Treat

One of my favorite desserts is made in a truffle bowl.  You buy some angel food cake and cut it into cubes.  Place a layer of cake cubes in the bottom of the truffle bowl.  Add a layer of whipped cream, and then a layer or sliced strawberries and blueberries…..repeat layering until your bowl is filled.  Top with whip cream and a few decorative berries….easy and delicious!

For more ideas, look on Pinterest or google some red, white, and blue desserts.  They are so colorful, fun to make, and represent our independence day just right!

Enjoy! – Chelsea
