Humidity is the absolute worse.  Your hair can go from straight to curly or curly to flat as soon as you step outside!  Even your makeup can’t beat the heat and ends up sweating off before no time!  If your hair is notorious for frizzing up when humidity Chelsea Crockett - Double Braidsstrikes, try some of these hairstyles to rock no matter what the temperature is!

First rule is to conceal as much of your hair as possible.  Wearing a simple ponytail will still leave room for it to frizz up!  My go-to hairstyle is French braids or a fishtail braid.  Since the double braids are back in style, I rock them all the time!  If you can’t do French braids on yourself, try learning how to fishtail.  It’s super easy, and with a little practice you can master the look yourself!  (P.S. this is a good hairstyle if you have a lot of layers. Chelsea Crockett - Braided Bun It takes little pieces at a time so it stops them from sticking out like they might in normal braids!)

If you need a little extra help containing the frizz, don’t be afraid to utilize accessories!  Things like headbands and hats are made for rescuing you from hair emergencies!  Apart from accessorizing, buns are good for this too.  I have yet to try this style for myself, but braided headbands followed by a bun like the picture on the right are super cute!

Which is your go-to hairstyle?  Let me know insiders! 🙂

Overcome Curly Hair Struggles

Curly hair can be both a blessing and a curse. When you have a good hair day, everyone is jealous of your wavy locks. I know I am! But every once in a while, curly hair is more of a burden than a gift. It shouldn’t have to be that way! I’ve learned some great tips from some of my friends that have the same struggle.

Whether your hair is straight or curly, frizz plays a role in messing it all up! It just hits curly haired girls a little harder than should,Chelsea Crockett - Paul Mitchell Spring Loaded but there’s no need to worry. Paul Mitchell has many, many hair products that are perfect no matter what type or texture your hair is. His Spring Loaded® Frizz-Fighting Shampoo and Conditioner works to cleanse curls but maintain their frizz from the start. He has a few other frizz-fighting products that are sure to help as well!

Although this may be more for curly haired girls, avoiding constant heat on your hair is a tip almost anyone can use. Straightening your hair every so often is fine, but applying heat every day will do nothing but damage your waves. They’ll end up dried out and brittle which will increase the amount of frizz your hair is going to have.

If your curls aren’t the exact shape you want them to be, use this trick! After washing (or simply wetting) your hair, apply a serum and wrap your curls around your finger. Hold them there for about 10 seconds and release them. This’ll help form your curls without the use of heat or excess products.

Lastly, love your curls! There are so many girls that would die for even a slight wave to their hair. Don’t take it for granted!

Love, Chelsea

How to Beat the Humidity!

Picture this: You are getting ready for a nice dinner date with your crush. You curl your hair, put on a dress, and complete your makeup. Everything is going as it should… but then you walk outside. Your hair starts to frizz and lose its curl the minute you step out of your front door! Here are a few tips on how you can beat the humidity before it hits you!

First off, try to make your look agree with your natural hair. If you have naturally straight hair, it’s smarter to stick with straightening it instead of curling it. This way, the humidity won’t have as big of an urge to get your hair back to its natural state.

How you dry your hair plays a big part in the fizziness of it. Blow drying your hair takes almost all the moisture out of your locks, which is a recipe for disaster on humid nights! Try towel drying your hair by lightly blotting the water out of it. If you are running short on time and have to blow dry it, separate your hair into smaller sections and dry it slowly.Chelsea Crockett - Moroccan Oil

Try to minimize the heat put on your hair as much as possible. If you have naturally gorgeous hair, don’t be afraid to rock it! If you have curly/wavy hair, avoid brushing it and let your curls hang just how they want! You can also scrunch your hair with a gel or foam to hold the curls into place.

After all these tips are put into play, add some product to your hair. The obvious hair spray will help do the job as well as serums and gels such as Moroccan Oil.  Then you are set for the night without worry of your hair expanding as soon as you step out of the door!

How to Tame Your Frizz in the Morning

Do you ever wake up and look in the mirror and think, “how in the world do I calm down this hair?” I’m not going to lie, I am definitely guilty of that! But no need to worry, I have found some tricks to help fizzle the frizz before it happens!

Many experts say to be careful when brushing your dry hair. Try to avoid it but if you must, try not to stretch it and cause breakage. Also, finger combing, or just combing in general, can reduce the breakage by a large amount!

The best way to handle your hair after washing is to towel dry and comb it. You can purchase an anti-frizz product to spray on it if you need to. If you don’t have an anti-frizzChelsea Crockett - Moroccan Oil product, you can water down a bit of hair conditioner and use your hands to apply it to only the tips of your hair. (Always look for protein in your conditioners. It helps to manage frizz and create shine.) Try to avoid straighteners, curling irons, and relaxers. They can make your hair brittle and lead to breakage which enhances frizz.  A couple of the best frizz-reducing products are Moroccan or Argon Oil.  To check it out, click here!

When buying products for your hair, look for ones that do not contain alcohol. Many salons carry these products and they are where I most recommend to shop. Avoid super markets and drugstores, they often carry products with alcohol because they have a longer shelf life. Another anti-frizz product that most don’t think of is children’s detangling spray. Spray a little on your hands and then gently smooth down your frizz. Good luck insiders!

Girls have to go through a lot, I know, oily skin, shaving, and worst of all, frizzy hair.  No matter what I do, my hair has little flyaways that I have no control of that only get worse when I step outside.  Whether it’s when I wake up or go to sleep, my hair tends to be frizzy during all hours of the day!

Now if you’re like me, you have a full head of hair.  My locks are super thick which makes it even harder to contain and take care of.  There are far too many serums Chelsea Crockett - Moroccan Oiland oils to try and find out which ones work and which don’t.  One secret most don’t know, is that towels actually contribute to the frizziness of your hair.  Instead of wrapping your hair in a towel after you shower, try wrapping it in an old t shirt and even try sleeping in it.  Although this is recommended more for girls with curly hair, any hair type will work as well.  Another secret is to take a very small amount of lotion and rub it on your hands.  After that, run them over your ends and see the magic happen.  But don’t take too much or your hair will look greasy, yuck!

Probably my favorite product to reduce this problem is Moroccan Oil.  Although it’s a little pricey, it’s definitely worth checking out.  It makes my hair feel extremely soft and gives it a shiny look.  I hope this helps you out!

One of the most annoying things I notice every time winter rolls around is how staticky my hair tends to get!  Every morning when I put on a jacket my hair starts to stand up, so annoying!  I’ve recently discovered some ways to help reduce the amount of static in my hair.  Read below to see how you can put these tips into use!

  1. Use dryer sheets.  Sounds crazy I know, but trust me it works!  Run a sheet through your comb, brush, or even through your hair.
  2. Use metal or rubber combs.  Plastic combs are one of the worst contributors to static, so it makes sense to avoid them!
  3. Try using frizz control hair products such as sprays and serums. Chelsea Crockett - Control Freak Serum These will help reduce the frizz in your hair (obviously), but will decrease the amount of static in your hair, as well.  One product I highly suggest is the Control Freak Serum by Bed Head by TIGI.  To check it out, click here!
  4. Wash your hair with a hydrating shampoo.  Our hair tends to dry-out during the winter months due to the coldness, and dryness of the weather.  You have to keep your hair extra hydrated for a closer step to static-free hair!
  5. Spray your brush/comb lightly with hairspray before running it through your hair.  Then just brush from roots to ends!  It’s that simply!

With these tips you can say good-bye to frizz and hello to static-free hair!
