Biblical Tips on How To Avoid Facebook Drama

Facebook Drama: We have all been involved in it one way or another, whether we were the one who started it or an innocent bystander. Whatever the case, it is never a pleasant experience. As a lover of Jesus I try to hold myself to a code of higher “social media ethics” and take the higher road, but petty arguments, rude comments, and subtweets sometimes test my patience. To avoid the hurt, annoyance, and all around nastiness of Facebook drama, here are 5 ways to avoid it that are inspired by the Bible.

  1. Never comment when you are angry: Proverbs 15:1 says: “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh answer stirs up anger.” Your quick-tempered comment might sound great today, but tomorrow you will probably regret it.frabz-facebook-drama-facebook-drama-everywhere-298113
  2. Tame your jealousy monster: So your best friend and her boyfriend are totally cute and post completely adorable selfies all over their timeline and you are 100% single. So what? Be happy that they are happy! Facebook brings out the jealousy in all of us, but just remember that although they take cute pictures and make cute statuses, things aren’t always flowers and rainbows for them.
  3. WWJP?: This stands for “what would Jesus post?” and this is pretty self-explanatory. It goes for comments as well as posts. Knowing what is appropriate to post and what isn’t will save you lots of drama in the long run!
  4. Forgive and forget: As Elsa would say, “Let it go!” Let your social media grudge go. Jesus calls us to forgive. Yeah, it is hard, but you will be so much better for it in the end!

Facebook is great, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes it can be more of a hassle than anything! As the Bible says in Philippians 4:8, we are to focus on the things that are right and noble and pure and admirable. This goes for Facebook! Let your page reflect you as a Christ follower and let it be a platform for God to use you as an example for others!

Eyeshadow can be a pretty intimidating. You don’t want to put it on two dark, you don’t want to put it on so light that you cannot tell you’re even wearing any, and you don’t want to fail at shading that smoky eye just right! Here are a few tips from the eyeshadow pros to help my eyeshadow-challenged ladies.

  1. Know your eye shape: Learning how to shade eyeshadow is so much easier when you know your eye shape. It helps you figure out what color goes where!
  2. Know your eyeshadow brushes: Know your tools! There are brushes that are better for blending, ones that are more for base colors, and many more! Know what they are and how to use them.5489e46db6858_-_rbk-applying-eyeshadow-0911-msc
  3. Know your preferred formula: There are three main eyeshadow formulas: cream, loose, and pressed. Cream eyeshadows work best as a base layer color for powder eyeshadow, loose eyeshadows are best if you want a pigmented color, and pressed is the most common type of eyeshadow because they blend easily and aren’t that messy.
  4. Priming is important!: Using eyeshadow primer is super important. It keeps it from creasing or wearing off as the day goes on. It will also make your eyeshadow colors look brighter!

Eyeshadow is so much fun to experiment with! Hopefully these tips help you make the most of your makeup.

Concealer is a life-saver, but only if you know how to use it. It took me a while to master the art of concealer! Finding the right color for you can be tricky, plus applying it the right way is a mystery to most! Here are my top 5 tips on everything concealer related.

  1. Color is key: There are shades of concealer that will help neutralize your specific skin tone! If you have dark purple spots around your eyes, use red concealer to cover them up and neutralize the dark circles. To find what concealer color works best for you, look at the undertone of your under eye circles.
  2. Different concealer formulas work better on different parts of your face: You may need a few different concealers in different colors to help cover everything. You can use a concealer that is skin tone, but having the right formula and color for the job makes a huge difference.concealer
  3. When to apply: Apply concealer after foundation to prevent brushing the concealer away. It also helps you use less concealer! Top it all off with powder.
  4. Let your concealer set: Let your concealer “cook” or melt onto your face for a few minutes. Your body heat will warm it up, and it may change color or texture a bit. After it has melted a bit, then you can work with it and blend it into your foundation.
  5. If you like to keep things simple: If you are more of a “do the minimum” makeup kind of person, just apply concealer under your eyes, at the corners of your mouth, and next to your nose. It will help you camouflage redness or darkness in those areas quick as a flash!

Hopefully these tips help you conceal to your heart’s desire!

Why You (and I) Should Learn to Give and Take Compliments

Recently I have noticed something. Something that has really started to bother me. It is the fact that, as girls, we no longer know how to give and take compliments….

Recently I have noticed something. Something that has really started to bother me. It is the fact that, as girls, we no longer know how to give and take compliments. Why is this?

One of my philosophies is that we feel like we are being self-centered or “proud” when we take a compliment. When you are told a compliment, do you shrug it off? Why do we feel like we cannot believe the positive things other people tell us? Imagine if you accepted all of the compliments that are given to you instead of shrugging them off and trying to counteract them. How much would that change your self-confidence? Believing the positive things people tell us can be such a boost! We need to learn to see the good in ourselves that others see in us.compliment

Now for my philosophy on why we sometimes have a hard time giving compliments. This, to me, goes hand in hand with the reason we don’t take compliments as well as we should. We don’t know how the other person will react to our praise, whether they will shrug it off or accept it. I think, as girls, sometimes we can let the jealousy bug bite us. We can think that by giving another girl a compliment, we are setting them above ourselves and making them look better than we do. WRONG. Giving someone else a compliment is the simplest, but most impactful thing you can do for them! Compliments are free to give, and they can make someone’s day SO much better!

Moral of the story? Give sincere compliments, and learn to take them in return. Accept people’s praise, because you are worth their affirmation! Don’t think that by accepting a compliment you are being self-righteous or prideful. Learn to confidently accept people’s admiration with a kind smile, and understand that you deserve it. We also need to know the importance of GIVING complements. They can honestly make someone’s day. How great is it knowing you can take someone’s mood and flip it around, just by telling them that you like their outfit? It is so easy to do, so why not humble yourself and give out a compliment or two?

If you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram, then you know I recently took a much needed vacay to Hawaii! But, you don’t need to be on a beach vacay to realize the importance of having soft, shaved legs. Some say there is no right way to shave your legs, but I beg to differ! Here are 5 little known facts about shaving your legs and how to get the best shave ever!images (6)

  1. Round up the right razor: Finding the right razor is the first step in getting your perfect shave. The perfect razor has more blades, which means less going over the same spot over and over.
  2. Shorter strokes: When it comes to shaving, the shorter the strokes the best results.
  3. Worth the wait: It is best to wait until then end of your shower to shave your legs. The steam and heat of the water help soften your hair which helps make shaving a breeze.
  4. Hydrate: Moisture is key! Moisturizing your legs helps prevent ingrown hairs and rashes.
  5. Protect: Your legs need sun protection too. After shaving, your skin is bare to the sun, so use a moisturizer that has spf!

Strut your smooth legs this summer!

4 Signs of a Real Gentlemen

I don’t know how many times I have heard the phrase “there are no good boys at my school” when girls are talking about why they don’t have a boyfriend. And sometimes, that really can seem like the truth! In my age group, there seems to be a lack of gentlemen, and finding a quality guy can feel like finding a needle in a haystack. Don’t lose heart! There is a guy out there for you that will treat you like a lady. Here are the signs that you have found a true gentlemen.

  1. He treats the women in his life with respect: Whether it is his mother, sister, or other friends that are girls, a boy should respect and treat them with dignity. He does this by listening to them when they talk and by affirming and defending them. I was always told to watch how a boy treats his mother, because that is a sign of the way he will treat his girlfriend.real-men
  2. He values you: A gentlemen will lift you up, not tear you down. He will make sure you know how valuable you are!
  3. He is confident without being cocky: No one likes being with a guy that is full of himself. A gentlemen is humble, and he also seeks guidance from people that are older and wiser than him, aka he is not a know-it-all!
  4. He is smart with money: This one isn’t as big of a deal in high school, but knowing how to wisely handle money is a biiiiiiig deal as you get older! So, having a guy who knows how to save money and doesn’t blow it all the second he gets it.

Finding a true gentlemen may be hard, but it is worth the wait! You are worth it.

Love makes us do silly things, am I right? We say things, do things, and even try things we never imagined we would! Here are 10 signs you are head over heels, goo goo gaga, crazy about a guy!

1.  You actually start paying attention to sports so that you can converse with him. You want to impress him and show you what a sports-savvy girl you are!

2. You let him have the last bite of your favorite dessert. And you did it with a smile on your face!

3. You keep it cool on social media. When you were younger and you got a boyfriend you gushed and bragged to all your friends, but now you know that relationships are between 2 people, not between 500 of your Facebook friends AND you. Yes, the occasional picture of you two together is to be expected, but you aren’t posting about him on the daily.

4. You start shopping for him more than you shop for yourself.

5. Every floor is a dance floor, even the Walmart isle! When you hear your favorite song you break out in dance together.falling-in-love-600x450

6. You show him you like him, even when he smells weird. What I mean is, after you guys work out or are outside doing things and you are both smelly and sweaty, you still give him a big ‘ole bear hug. Showing him that you like him even when he is a slippery sweaty mess means the world!

7. You aren’t afraid to ugly cry in front of him.

8. You spend 6 hours baking his favorite cupcakes (which is 6 hours you should have been doing homework) because you know he will be over the moon when he finds out you baked them just for him.

9. You do everything you can to impress his family, because you know that the way to your boy’s heart is by being nice to his momma.

10. You listen to and laugh at alllllll of his bad jokes. And then tell him that he is just the funniest guy on the planet!

Does any of this sound like you? If so, you’ve got it bad girlfriend!

Beat Bad Hair Days

We have all had those days where we wake up and our hair looks like something out of a horror movie. Bad hair days are the worst because we are helpless in the fight against our hair, it has a mind of its own! Here is a handy dandy list of ways that you can beat your next bad hair day and come out on top-great hair intact!

  1. Is your hair dull or brassy? Get natural shine by taking fish oil supplements! Along with a ton of other health benefits, fish oil works from the inside out, giving you naturally glossy strands.resized_success-kid-meme-generator-have-a-bad-hair-day-crush-doesn-t-come-to-school-979a50
  2. Running late or have horribly untamable hair? Braids are always a safe bet. Braided hairstyles are your bff on days when you just don’t want to mess with your hair.
  3. To help prevent bad hair days from bearing their ugly face, steer clear of hair products that have silicones or sulfates in them. Those chemicals dry out your hair and disrupt it’s natural wave/curl pattern. This means mega frizz! Also, maintaining a healthy diet can really benefit the health of your hair. Avoid eating an excess of salt, sugar, caffeine and carbonated beverages!
  4. Topknots are also a lifesaver. These high buns keep your hair out of your face and disguise the mess it really is!
  5. Use them! Blair Waldorf set a great example for us. Headbands add a little extra oomf to hair if it needs a little something to spice it up and it keeps your strands out of your face.
  6. Are you battling static electricity and flyaways? Rub a dryer sheet over your hair!
  7. When straightening your hair, pull the hair up towards the ceiling when running it through the straightener to add volume to the ‘do!

Bad hair days be gone!

XOXO,

To some girls the thought of hanging out with a group of boys leaves them in a cold sweat. Boys? As friends? No way. That’s foreign territory. To others, having a group of guy friends is second nature and even preferable to a group of girlfriends. There are some pros and cons to being the girl that is considered “one of the guys” and we are about to explore them together.e6ac499e098b5b52d6da68acbfd284ef

Pro: No Drama. Bros tend to be drama free. Boys think of drama as a disease, they do everything to avoid it. Where there is no drama, there is a good time to be had.

Con: You are literally seen as a “bro”. Once you are considered a “guys girl”, the dudes you hang out with won’t see you as a female. Sort of. If you are looking for a relationship with one of your dude friends, you may want to reconsider your status as a “bro”. Beware of the friend zone!

Pro: Boys can be strong and intimidating. If you need someone to walk you to your car, pretend to be your boyfriend so the creeper in math class will stop bugging you, or pump your gas when it is freezing outside, it is always handy to have a bro.

Con: You might have to listen to bro talk. When hanging out with a bunch of dudes, you might have to listen to some shenanigans that only bros understand. A pro to this one is that their bro talk can sometimes be quite amusing.

Pro: Get more perspective. Once you get comfortable with a group of dudes, you can start asking them about their perspective on things. Need guy advice? Who better to ask than a guy himself?

Some girls are intimidated by guys, and that is totally understandable! They are a totally foreign species. All you have to do is be confident and be yourself around them, I promise they don’t bite.

IMG_6340This time of year around Thanksgiving and Christmas means lots of parties and get-togethers, which means dressing up! To some girls, the words “high heels” are curse words. Yes, heels can be uncomfortable and a little hard to commandeer at times, but there really IS an art to walking in heels.

  1. Start small: You wouldn’t run a marathon without training, would you? I certainly wouldn’t. That is why if you rarely wear heals, don’t reach for the 5 inch stilettos come formal. Start off with a 2 inch heel, just to get familiar with the feeling. If you slowly work your way up you will be rockin those 5 inch heels in no time at all.
  2. If the shoe fits…: Size DOES matter. You have got to make sure your heels fit right or you are in for a world of hurt. If the shoes are too big you will be walking around awkwardly all night and will probably feel like a clown with huge shoes. If the shoes are too small your feet will feel cramped and you will be feeling the burn. Your foot size changes over the years, so get your feet sized before stepping out in those stilettos.
  3. Take a breather: Take a sit. There is no shame in having a little break from time to time. When you rest frequently it keeps you walking more comfortably.
  4. Pump the breaks: Wearing heels naturally makes your strides shorter, so you have to take more steps than usual. Slow your roll! The faster you try and walk in heels the funnier you look.
  5. Move to a beat: When you are walking in flats do you think about the steps you are taking? Nope. The same goes for walking in heels, don’t over think it! Try and walk to a beat when you are wearing heels. It will help you even your strides and make your walking look effortless.

We hope that these tips will help you walk like Beyonce wherever your heels may take you!

5 Ways to Love your Body the Way it Is

How often do we wish we had someone else’s body? That we had smaller thighs or a narrower face? Or that we had a flatter tummy or tighter tush? Why don’t we just start to love our body the way it is? I think that if we start to do this, we will be so much more content and happier in our life. Here are a few reasons that you should love your body just the way it is:

  1. You can do so much more with your time other than worrying about your figure. You have things to do, people to see! love-your-bodyHave lunch with friends, read a new book, clean out your closet, anything but fret about your body!
  2. Food is yummy and meant to be devoured. No one wants to go through life never knowing the earth-shattering goodness of a donut. Indulge a little every once in a while!
  3. Being healthy is what matters. As long as you are eating well and exercising frequently, then you are good to go. Not seeing drastic drops on the scale? Try changing your workout routine up a bit and substitute out some not-so-great snacks out of your diet. You will see a difference!
  4. Looks aren’t everything. No matter what this society tries to tell you. Instead of going through life always wishing you looked like someone else, embrace YOU and YOUR beauty! There is no one like you!
  5. The perfect body doesn’t exist, so don’t worry about chasing it. Your body was made for YOU and YOU only! That means that it is perfect for you.

Stop trying to change your body all the time and take a second to actually appreciate the one God gave you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, don’t forget it!

Are you a freshman in college? Or are you a high school student getting ready to head to college in the near future? Then I am sure you have heard of the dreaded phrase “freshman 15”, which refers to the weight that you gain in your first year of college. Have no fear, the freshmen 15 doesn’t have to be a problem! Actually, experts say that the average college student only gains 3-4 pounds in their first year of college, but still, we can avoid it! Here is how:

Break for Breakfast: If you don’t stop and eat breakfast, you will be starving throughout your day, and probably shovel junk down your pie hole at lunch because you are so famished from skipping breakfast! As your mother has drilled into your skull, breakfast is super important. Breakfast also supplies your brain and muscles with the energy they need to get through the day! It also promotes a healthy metabolism, which is crucial to maintaining a healthy weight.

Snack Smart: Yes, I know that Cheeze-Its are totally delicious and mega addicting, but they might not be the best all-day-every-day snack. Try for something a little more healthy such as apple slices and peanut butter or granola as your go-to snack. Also, snack often! This ensures that you will not over eat at meals, and it keeps your energy level and metabolism at 100% throughout your day.freshman15

Don’t Drink your Calories: You would be surprised how many calories we actually drink in a day. Switch out the soda for water or tea! It is a small change that makes a huge difference.

Get a Great Workout Buddy: Grab your roommate or best bud and make set days of the week your “workout days”. This will ensure that you get your exercise in for the week and you have a set schedule you can keep to so you are accountable.

Good luck in college, I know you can keep that freshman 15 from bearing its ugly teeth!

Dating in the 21st Century: What’s Your Opinion?

Okay, so picture this. A boy pulls up to your house, walks up your sidewalk, and knocks on your door. Your dad answers the door, the boy shakes his hand, and you greet him with a smile. You take his arm and walk to his car, where he opens the door for you. He takes you to a nice restaurant, where you two have a lovely conversation about your likes, dislikes, hopes and dreams. After the meal, he pays the bill and takes you home, where he walks you to the door and you part with a warm smile and a “goodnight.” This routine is repeated a few times and may lead to courtship, and then possibly marriage. Does this scenario sound totally foreign to you or like something out of an old movie? This is what your grandparents called dating.download (1)

Isn’t it crazy how drastically the action of dating has morphed over the years? Now dating is considered texting someone at all hours of the day, and making them your “Man Crush Monday”, and posting cute pictures of you two on Instagram. Staying in and watching movies is a typical date, and going to nice dinners is reserved for birthdays or your “six month anniversary”. We put so much attention on “relationship statuses” on Facebook and Twitter “subtweets”. If we said any of these phrases to our grandparents, they would have no idea what we were talking about, and probably think you were talking in some kind of secret code or language. So, I am curious, what do you wish was different about our dating culture? Do you long for the dates like the one above, or do you enjoy our version of dating?

I know that sometimes I get frustrated with society’s definition of dating, and the expectations that is put on it. Sometimes, society’s view seems so shallow, does it not? Here is what I think, straight up and to the point: Don’t fall into the trap of conforming to any set standard just because it is what society says you should do. We need to set our own relationship standards based on something that doesn’t trend or move, and that is the standards that God has set. Don’t let your views be compromised by popular opinion.

So, like I said, I am curious to hear your point of view. Comment below and tell me your thoughts, because I want to know what you think!
