Beauty takes time. As a good friend of mine always says, beauty isn’t for sissies! It feels like there isn’t enough time in the day to get everything done that I need to do, let alone enough time to get all my beauty prep in. In my book, the best kind of beauty treatments are the ones you can do in your sleep. Here are a few examples of treatments that make you the beauty queen you are, and all you have to do is catch some zzzzzzzzzz’s.

  1. Shrink a pimple: If you have a pesky pimple or two, put a small dab of toothpaste onto it and let it sit overnight. It dries the blemish out and helps shrink it.
  2. Moisturize: Hydrate your skin with an overnight mask to heal and nourish dry skin. You can also use a humidifier to help stop the dry air from sucking the moisture from your skin while you sleep!
  3. Heal your hair: Coconut oil works miracles. Seriously. Smooth some on your strands and leave it on overnight. Cover your pillow with a towel so the oil doesn’t soak in. Be ready to wake up with the healthiest hair you’ve ever had!
  4. Wavy hair: Want to wake up with wavy hair? There are tons of no-heat curl methods to try. Do a quick YouTube search and find one that works for you. These methods save your hair a ton of damage, AND they take barely any time at all! Your hair gets styled as you sleep.

Now you know why they call it “beauty sleep”!

How College May Be Ruining Your Hair

College is a busy, busy time. You are exploring new places, meeting new people, and learning what it means to grow up and mature into an adult. College is also a time when your skin and hair routine, or whole beauty routine for that matter, may be put on the back burner because life is just crazy busy. Plus, you may embrace a more lazy approach to beauty and style during this time, which is totally cool, but it also can mean that you are sabotaging your hair. It is totally easy to let your haircare be put on the back burner, because during this time there are things way more important than your hair, but it is also important to keep your strands in mind. You don’t need to spend hours and lots of money to keep healthy hair in college, you just need to avoid the mistakes below.

  1. Wearing your hair up too much: It is easy to get in the habit of tossing your hair up into a ponytail or bun on busy mornings, but wearing your hair up every day can actually lead to hair loss and can damage your strands. I know it is tempting to just toss it up every day, but leave your hair down when you can, or wear it in a loose pony or braid.fullsizerender-63
  2. Styling wet hair: It is easy to get in a rush and want to brush and style your hair right after the shower, but brushing soaking hair does a ton of damage, so just pull it into a braid or bun and go.
  3. Not putting any effort into it: Don’t just ignore hair care. You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars or lots of time, you just need to treat it nicely. Don’t ignore trims, they don’t take long and are essential to keeping your hair healthy. Make sure you aren’t relying on dry shampoo every day because it can dry your hair out and make it brittle. Also, another easy way to maintain your hair is to spritz in some leave-in conditioner after every shower to give your hair the moisture it needs.

I know college is a crazy busy time, and it can feel like you have no time at all for hair care, but by keeping these tips in mind you can be saving your strands a world of hurt!

Your hair is always begging for moisture, especially in the winter time when the air is cold and dry! Products you use to style your hair, such as hair spray and mousse, can dry your hair out even more. Want to know how you can make your very own hair spray that will actually hydrate and strengthen your hair as you use it…made with all natural ingredients? Who wouldn’t!

Ingredients:download

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 3-4 drops rosemary essential oil
  • 2 cups distilled water

Melt the coconut oil in the microwave and add it to a spray bottle. Next add in the distilled water and essential oil. Shake it reaaally good. It works great on both damp and dry hair! Also, make sure to shake it before every use because the ingredients will naturally separate.

Now this hair spray doesn’t have as strong of a hold as store bought sprays, but it does a much better job of keeping the frizz away!

My Favorite Hair Advice

As I have gotten older, my knowledge of everything hair-related has grown exponentially. Like, a ton. Being a beauty guru means getting the 411 on all of the beauty tips and tricks, so I have learned a few things along the way. Here are 5 of my favorite and most useful pieces of hair advice that I have ever gotten.

  1. Give your straightener a rest

More like give your hair a rest! As you all know, using hot tools on your hair is baaaaad for it. I know some girls who have straightened their hair so often it breaks off! Talk about split ends. Limit your hot-styling to a few days a week to spare your hair. Air dry your hair, let your natural curl or waves shine through, and experiment with hair 1fun ways to pull it back!

  1. It’s only hair

That is the mantra I kept repeating to myself when I got my hair chopped off. But that is the beauty of hair, it always grows back! We have all gotten that one bad haircut where we leave the salon holding back the tears, but just remember, its only hair!

  1. Shampoo less

Shampooing less allows your hair’s natural oils to work, which makes your hair shiny and healthy! Shampoo every other day, or even longer than that. Befriend dry shampoo, it is a life-saver!

  1. Too blessed to be stressed

Be thankful for the hair you have! Yes, we all wish our hair was a little straighter, a little curlier, a little longer or a little shorter, or that it was just a liiiiitle blonder, but God made you the way he did for a reason! And like I said, it’s just hair! Think of it this way: there are some girls out there who’d love to have your hair and others who don’t have hair at all. Consider yourself lucky, and appreciate what you have! You’re too blessed to be stressed.

Because I have long hair, pulling a brush through it after a shower is nothing short of a nightmare. The only way I can get all the tangles out of my hair is if I use detangler. Here is how to easily make your very own!41d56f47764e2564fc334ba5373a114b

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 tablespoons organic conditioner
  • 2 cups distilled water
  • 12 drops of essential oil
  • Spray bottle

The amount of distilled water you use depends on your spray bottle size. Whisk 1.5 to 2 cups of water with 2-3 tbsp of conditioner in a bowl. Add in some essential oils to spruce it up. I like to use rosemary oil because it promotes strong hair. Use a funnel to pour the mixture into the spray bottle, and there you have it! Your hair will be soft, tangle free, and shiny!

Are YOU going to make this spray? If you do, comment below and tell me how you like it!

SOS: Save Your Hair!

You, yes YOU, could be ruining your hair without even knowing it! How can this be?! How do I avoid unknowingly ruining my luscious locks?! Have no fear, Chelsea is here to tell you just what mistakes you may be making and how to avoid them! Save your mane!

  1. Protect those locks: ALWAYS use a heat protectant when you are styling your hair! Hot tools like blow dryers and hair straighteners are BRUTAL to your hair! Have you ever burned your skin with your curling iron? That heat is being applied to your hair! Your hair needs all the protection it can get.IMG_6733
  2. Pack on the protein: Your hair is made entirely of protein, so you need to make sure you are eating enough of it! Some examples are fish, chicken, and beans!
  3. Dry right: Did you know drying your hair with a towel can rough the cuticle up and leave it frizzy? ‘Tis the truth! Instead, dry your hair with a cotton t-shirt.
  4. Be a better brusher: We all know we aren’t supposed to brush our hair when it is wet, but the feel of stringy wet hair isn’t the best feeling ever. So, detangle your wet locks and brush through them with a wide toothed comb! Much better for your hair.
  5. Save your scalp: Your scalp is where your hair growth starts, so a healthy scalp = healthy hair! Give yourself a scalp massage daily to stimulate the follicles and get the blood moving throughout your scalp. This can lead to healthier, faster growing hair!

I have super long hair and I can honestly say that I keep up with these tips! Having long hair takes a lot of work, but it is worth the struggle!

Make Your Straight Hair Wavy

Raise your hand if you have slick, straight hair. Now wave it like you just don’t care. If you have your hand in the sky, then I have great news for you. You can still get those beachy waves or curls you have been longing for! Stay tuned to find out how.

Use a diffuser: Did your blow-dryer come with an odd cone shaped contraption with prongs on the end? That, myhair-dryer-diffuser-clipped-tutorial-for-men-hair-care
darling, is a diffuser, and it is going to be your new best friend. When you have damp hair, hang your head upside down and face the prongs of the diffuser towards the ceiling, scrunching your hair as you dry it.

Mousse it up: Mousse is your new go-to gal pal. Without this product, your straight hair stands little chance of gaining those bouncy flouncy curls you dream of. Before using your diffuser or any heating tool, work mousse into your hair with your fingers.

Snooze in braids: This is the oldest trick in the book. For quick, easy waves, braid your locks and sleep on ‘em. This also saves your hair from being damaged by the heat of your blow dryer or curling iron.

So, my straight-haired honeys, there is hope for you yet! Use these tips to give your hair a little extra somethin’ somethin’.

Post-Pool Hair Care

In the summer time, do you automatically morph into a mermaid? Do you spend every waking moment in the pool? If you said yes to these two statements, then I need you to grab your listening ears! The pool/ocean can do a number on your hair if it is not properly treated. Your hair can become dried out, and even turn green if you don’t care for it properly! Here are some post-pool hair care tips to keep your mane nice and healthy.

  1. Swimmers shampoo: If you are a frequent swimmer, then this is definitely a good investment. This stuff takes all of the chlorine and chemicals out of your hair so that it doesn’t turn green and totally dry out.
  2. Deep conditioner: Use this stuff twice a week if you are an avid swimmer. After you shampoo and rinse your hair, put in some deep conditioner and let it sit around 5 minutes in your hair. While it is in your hair you can shave and exfoliate so you aren’t just standing in the shower doing nothing, bored as can be.
  3. Leave in conditioner: Also a must! After your shower, spray any type of leave-in conditioner in your hair, that way even when it dries it is still being moisturized.

Moisture is a must when it comes to my water-loving Insiders! Keep your hair healthy this summer with these tips.
