Air drying your hair is one way to keep it healthy. Blow drying it constantly dries it out and makes it brittle, plus the heat damages it! Air drying my hair can sometimes be a hassle because it dries funny, in weird waves or curls, so I did a little research on the subject. Here are a few ways to air dry your and style it at the same time.

  1. No-frizz waves: Work some mousse into your damp hair, and then pull your hair into a big loose braid. Twist and clip the braid a few inches above the crown to give your hair some lift. Take the braid out once your hair is dry. This will keep your mane from frizzing up, and it will give you even waves!
  2. Gentle waves: If you want waves framing your face, tuck your hair behind your ears as it dries and clip a metal hair pin above each ear. This will exaggerate the bend and create a face-framing wave!
  3. Textured wave: Mist damp hair with sea salt spray, then pull your hair loosely into 4 braids while it is still damp. Take the braids out when your hair is dry.
  4. Polished waves: Braid your hair into 2 loose braids before bed, clip them into twists, and then take them out when you wake up. You will have gorgeous, smooth waves.

I love that I have found ways to style my hair as it dries, it saves me so much time drying it and then styling it afterwards. I can do other things while my hair dries, and when it dries it will be wavy and styled, plus I am not damaging it with a curling iron or blow dryer!

When the weather heats up, that’s when my sea salt spray comes out from its winter hiding place under my sink. Beachy waves are a spring and summer hair staple. Have you ever wondered, though, if these sprays are good for our hair? Let’s get to the bottom of the question. The answer is: it depends on what ingredients are in the spray. You need ingredients that counteract the drying effects of salt. Here are some great salt spray formulas that keep your hair healthy and stylin’ at the same time.

  1. Aloe Vera: Salt sprays with aloe vera in them give you gentle waves and nourish your strands!
  2. Coconut Water: Coconut water is a great addition to salt sprays! It gives your hair a bounce and lift.
  3. Lavender: Having lavender in your salt spray ensures your hair will not only smell awesome, it also protects your strands from drying!
  4. UV Protection: It is important to protect your hair from the elements, so use a salt spray that gives you UV protection AND awesome waves!

Find a salt spray that has one or a combination of these ingredients for great looking AND healthy hair!

How to Get the Hair Cut You Really Want

Odds are, at some point in your life, you have walked out of the hair salon almost in tears because of a bad haircut. It is hard to communicate with your stylist exactly what you want. Here are a few ways to make sure you get the haircut you want and avoid the bad-hair-cut-blues.

  1. Do some prep work: Do some research before heading to get your hair cut. Research salons in your area and look at customer reviews.fullsizerender-72
  2. Come prepared: Bring more than one photo of what haircut/color you want. Point out specifically what you like about the pictures. Be as precise as possible! Also, share with the stylist what your daily hair routine looks like, whether it is styling it every day or letting it air dry. This will affect how “high or low maintenance” your hair cut is.
  3. Trust the stylist: If a stylist warns you against a certain cut or color, take their advice! They are the professionals and want you to feel your best and most confident. They know what looks best with certain face shapes and hair textures.

Salon trips should be fun and relaxing, not fearful and stressful!

5 Things to Know Before You Cut Your Hair

If you have been with me for a while, then you know I used to have loooooong hair. My sister Kylie has beautiful long locks right now and I catch myself wishing I had mine back! Although I sometimes reminisce about the times when I had long locks, I really dig my shorter ‘do.  Sometimes having long hair was such a hassle, and was very hard to maintain. Cutting your hair short means a fresh start and a totally new look, and one look that is really in right now is the long bob haircut, but before you go cutting off your tresses and taking the short hair plunge there are a few things you need to consider!

Styling tools switch: The tools you use to style your long hair may not be ideal with your short hair. Big barreled curling irons usually get the boot and smaller thinner irons and straighteners will take their place. The smaller tools allow you to have better control of your shorter ‘do.FullSizeRender (4)

Style time: Shorter hair takes less time to style, which is a total bonus! You won’t have to wake up as early in the morning to style it and it takes less time to dry than longer hair does.

Hair heaviness: Shorter hair has less weight to it than longer hair. This means that if you have natural curls or waves, they will be tighter with short hair. I think that this is a plus because when you get out of the shower all you have to do is work a little product into your hair and you can let your hair go natural!

Saves money: Shorter hair= less shampoo and hair products!

It is drastic: Lots of girls have an emotional attachment to their hair (myself included) so the thought of chopping off your hair can be frightening. But, just remember, it WILL grow back! Buuuuuut..it will not grow back overnight. It takes minutes to cut your hair, but months to grow it all back. It is quite a commitment!

So, before you decide to board the “short hair train” give it a bit of thought!

Recently I have been reading on my favorite bloggers’ sites that they barely wash their hair. Like, Cara Loren recently blogged that she doesn’t wash it for a week, and her hair is always so gorgeous! It blows my mind! How can people not wash their hair yet it still looks that good? I found out a few of their secrets, and today Ill share them with you. So, what exactly happens when you quit washing your hair so often?

  1. You fall in love with dry shampoo: For people who go a while between lathers, dry shampoo is their bff. They rely on this miracle spray to keep their hair less oily and smelling nice! It also makes it easy to style.download
  2. It will be easier to style: Every time I go to a salon to get my hair done for events like prom and homecoming, the stylist always tells me to come with “dirty hair”. This is because it holds the style better! Clean hair is slippery.
  3. Less split ends: Washing your hair is rough on it, between the lathering rinsing and repeating. It also dries out your ends, which leads them to split, so washing less = less split ends!
  4. Your color will last longer: If you color or highlight your hair, you know that washing dulls your color over time. So, washing less = longer lasting color.

Now, I am not sure that I can go a week without washing my hair, but I could go a few days to see if I reap any of these benefits!

Hair Styles Without Heat or Hair Ties

Hair drama might just be the worst drama. That one piece of hair that just. Wont. Curl? Yeah. Drama! Don’t let bad hair days get you down and make you want to chop your hair off with the first pair of scissors you can find! And it may seem like there are just no good ways to style your hair without using hot tools or pesky hair ties that you can never seem to locate. Good news, there are!

  1. Pretty braids: Any kind of braid is a good way to style your hair without heat! This one obviously uses a hair tie, but it doesn’t need heat! If your hair is rebelling and poking out in every way possible when you wake up in the morning, tie it into a halo braid or into fishtail or French braids! The braid options are endless.f7d7f48662a12d93a4bf1121aa0d547d
  2. Top Knotted: This one doesn’t require a hair tie if you are skilled in the art of tying your hair in a knot, but if you have yet to master that, use a hair tie. Gather your misbehaving locks together and twist it from the base like you are twisting it into a bun, then pull the tail end through the middle of the bun with a firm tug.
  3. Dramatic side-part: While your hair is still damp, make a deep side part and shape your hair up and over the top as it dries. Tuck your hair behind your hear to help it dry in this shape. This texturized look is effortless and messy, which is totally in!

Also try no-heat curling methods for heatless waves the next day! All of the styles mentioned take barely any time and can be done without heat and minimal hair ties! Simple hair = happy life.
