Does your hair feel limp? Does it fail to hold curls like it used to? If so, then it is probably being weighed down by product build up. Hair products like dry shampoo, hair spray, and leave-in conditioner over time can build up on your hair and weigh it down. Here is how to clarify your hair and remove the product build-up:

shelterbakingsoda_2

You will need:

2 tablespoons of shampoo

1 tablespoon of baking soda

Measure out 2 tablespoons of shampoo into a small container and add the baking soda to it. Wet your hair and use the shampoo mixture in your hair as you normally would, using your fingers to work it into your scalp and hair.  Let the mixture sit in your hair no longer than 4 minutes. Rinse the mixture out of your hair with cold water. Use conditioner as you normally would. You can do this treatment once a month to keep your hair clarified and to minimize the product build up that accumulates on it. The less product build up, the lighter and fuller your hair will be, and the better it will hold a curl!

Lather, rinse, and repeat!

What’s Your Best Color?

So, you have blonde hair and pale skin.  You love how some colors look on you and hate others.  Why is that?  Well, everyone has certain colors that look best on them based off their skin tone and hair color.  Everyone is different, so choosing the right colors is important for a killer outfit!

Having blonde hair usually means you have lighter skin, which calls for special color choices.  If you have blue eyes, then definitely go for a royal or icy blue.  This will really highlight your eyes without making you look washed out.  Pink and green are also complementary colors for blonde haired people.  Pink will give you that “cool” complexion, while green enhances gold hues in your hair.  Last, nudes, neutrals, and silver are also a safe bet for blondes.  These colors add warmth to your complexion making you appear to be tanner than you are.Chelsea Crockett- neutral colors

Deep and bold toned colors are best for brunettes.  Since brunettes typically have a more olive or tanner complexion, it’s easier to pull off bold colors.  The true winners for brunettes are red, orange, and jewel-toned colors such as plum, ruby, emerald green, and gold.  All of these colors highlight the dark tones in your hair and can pull out red hues if you happen to have a red tint in your hair, such as auburn.  All of these colors complement your skin tone and hair color at once.

If you have red hair, make sure to avoid red, yellow, and orange in your wardrobe.  These color choices would be overkill for your complexion giving it a reddish tint.  Instead go for greens, navy blue, lavender, and shades of brown.  These colors will complement your skin tone, keeping your skin from looking red.  For a burst of color try turquoise to really bring out your red hair.

Knowing how to work your hair color and skin tone are important for a to-die-for look.  Next time you’re out shopping, keep an eye out for these specific colors!

Where I live, the summers get hotter than the devil’s underpants. Wearing your hair down in that kind of weather is not exactly ideal, so you have to learn how to find cute ways to keep your hair back. Here are three adorable hair styles to keep you locks off of your neck!396x529

  1. Big bun with a scarf: Twist your hair into a large bun (you can do a “sock bun”) and then wrap a decorative scarf
    around the bun. So boho!
  2. Headband roll: Place an elastic headband around your hair like a halo. Start twisting your hair up and around the head band, just like the picture! So simple, yet so cute!
  3. Fishtail braids: Fishtail braids are my favorite braid of all! They can be perfect for any outfit, weather you are dressed up or dressed down. You can pull a few strands out of the braid to loosen it up and make it a little messier for a more casual look.

Beat the heat this summer with these cute looks!

Have you ever heard of a crown braid? They can be really tricky, but they are so chic! Today I am going to teach you how to do a half crown braid. This hair style can be worn in both casual and formal settings.

1. Style your hair how you prefer it, whether it is straightened or curled.

2. Take the hair from the front section from one side of your head and braid it. Tie the end with a clear elastic. Do the same to the other side of your face. You should now have two braids that hang down on each side of your face. These braids should be relatively small.

half-up-braid9

3. Take one of the braids and pull it across the back of your head and secure the end with a bobby pin. Next, take the other braid and pull it across

the back of your head, just like you did with the first. Tuck the ends of this one under the beginning of the first braid to hide the ends. Pin the ends with a bobby pin. Hair spray your ‘do to keep it secure!

Braids are always a super chic, easy option of pulling your hair back! Try this hairstyle and see how much you will love it!

Who likes spending hours brushing, drying, and then curling their hair? Not many people enjoy this loooonnngg process, but they love the end result! What If I told you that there was a way to curl your hair using nothing but paper towels?  There is a new method of curling hair that I just discovered that takes about 20 minutes to accomplish and doesn’t damage your hair whatsoever! Ladies and gentlemen,  I introduce paper towel curls!

Wash and comb your hair as you usually would. Let it dry a little bit so it isn’t sopping wet.  Start taking sections of your hair, the smaller the section the tighter the curl, and roll the hair the hair into 2 inch strips of paper towel just like you roll a curler. Tie the ends of the paper towel together tight so that it will hold all night.  The paper towels will absorb the water in your hair, so it will dry overnight. In the morning, unwrap the paper towels and DSC_0088presto! Beautiful bouncy curls. Take your fingers and run them through the curls to loosen them up a bit, and mist them with hairspray to help them stay in all day. You can save the strips of paper towel for next time you want to do this hair style so you don’t have to cut the strips all over again.

This hair style saves so much time, and it doesn’t require you to use heat so you can save your hair some damage! Score! If you try this hair style, comment below and let me know how it works out for you!

I don’t know if you all love bows, but I sure do. There is just something so fun and flirty and feminine about them! Today I am going to tell you how to create a super cute hair style where you use your hair to create a bow! Read on!

1. Pull your hair into the half-up half-down style, pulling the hair roughly from ear to ear. The more hair you take the bigger the bow will be!

 2. When you are pulling your hair back into the half-up half-down ponytail, once you have wrapped the ponytail holder around your hair twice, don’t pull the hair all the way through. Leave your hair in the loop/bubble position. Face the hair that is sticking out of the bubble towards your forehead.

 3. Split your bubble in half. This is what is making both sides of the bow! Take the hair that is sticking out of the bubble, the ends of your hair, and pull it down the middle where you split your hair. Hold it in place.

4. Use bobby pins to secure the bow and pin any stray hairs into the bow. Mist with hair spray.

Easy, right? I am adding pictures for you visual people, sometimes seeing done helps you do it yourself!

Hi Insiders,

Washing and conditioning your hair is obviously a great thing, but did you know that over washing your hair can actually be a problem?!  Every time you wash your hair, you’re stripping your hair of its natural oils making it more prone to pick upChelsea Crockett- shampoo extra oil throughout the day.  It can also cause your hair to be drier.  So next time you decided to hit the snooze button instead of washing your hair, don’t feel too bad about it!

Since washing your hair can actually make it more oily, it’s important to train your hair.  If you wash your hair every day, try washing it every other day instead.  Although it might start out by getting very oily, eventually it’ll quit being oily the second day.  Your hair will adapt to your shampooing schedule.  Also, pay attention to your hair type.  The thicker the hair, the more you need to wash it.  If you have fine hair, washing it 3 times a week would be just fine!  It’s important to know your hair.  If you can’t stand the thought of not washing your hair every day, then try using luke-warm water.  The hotter the water, the greater the chance you have of drying out your hair.

Next time you decide to wash your hair, pay attention to how it reacts!  Try training your hair so it becomes the healthiest hair it can be!

Hi Girls,

Bobby pins are one of the biggest hair style savers.  They can create the most beautiful up-dos, pin back unwanted hair, and aid to any hair style you want.  They are also great if you are trying to grow out your bangs.  One of the best features of bobby pins is how they seem almost “invisible” in your hair.  Try some of these easy hairstyles with the help of bobby pins!Chelsea Crockett- bobby pin up dos

If you are trying to grow out your bangs or just want them out of your face for the day, then bobby pins are the way to go.  Try simply twisting or braiding your bangs and pinning them back.  This looks great with straight, curled, or wavy hair.  To make a pony tail more elegant, leave a strand of your hair from the bottom out of your pony tail.  Wrap the loose hair around the pony tail and secure it with bobby pins; this way you can’t see the hair tie!  Try this with a loose or tight pony tail to go with any look.  If you’re looking for an elegant hair style, try pinning up all of your hair.  Start by curling all of your hair tightly.  Take small strands and wrap them into small coils and bobby pin each piece in the back.  Once all of your hair is up pull a few loose strands from the front of your face to make the look softer.  Since you aren’t using any hair ties, be sure to hair spray your hair.

Bobby pins are a wonder for any and all hairstyles!  Comment below if you know of a great way to use bobby pins or if you try one of the styles above.

I love you all!

Do you have thin hair and wish that you had thick hair? I have super thick hair, and I thank God every day for it. For girls who have thin hair, finding ways to do it it can sometimes be quite a chore. Having thick locks can open up your styling options quite a bit! Here are a few tricks to make fine hair look thick!

  1. Watch your conditioner. This is where a lot of products can weigh down your hair. Steer clear of anything that says “smoothing” and “hydrating” on the bottle because these products most likely have oils in them which keep your hair from gaining volume.chelsea crockett
  2. Blow drying. Your first step should be to spray your locks with heat protectant. Flip your hair upside down and blow dry it with a round brush. After the dampness is gone, flip your head back up and blow dry the rest in sections.
  3. Velcro Rollers are your best friend. I am in love with these babies. Set the front pieces of your hair in the velcro rollers and clip them in for around 20 minutes to get mega volume.
  4. Tease tease tease! Let the rollers out and lightly tease the parts of hair at the crown of your head.

If you have fine or thin hair, these tips will be a lifesaver! Try em out and comment below!

Spring is one of the prettiest times of the year! All around you, flowers are starting to appear! Flowers are not only gorgeous and a perfect gift, but a fashion statement as well. What better time to rock some sunflowers than spring?Chelsea Crockett - Floral Necklace

If you’ve checked out the latest issues of fashion magazines, you have seen all the popular trends that involve floral jewelry. Chunky necklaces, like the one on the right, are super cute and classy.  To check out some of these necklaces, click here!  Other accessories, such as earrings and bracelets, are just as stylish. It totally fits the mood of spring!

Chelsea Crockett - Flower BraidOther accessories can be found right outside your front door :)! I know a lot of us have tumblrs, and I’ve seen this on my feed many times. Go outside and pick out some flowers, depending on how long your hair is. Then braid, or fishtail, your hair. After your hair is in a nice (or messy!) braid, put the flowers randomly throughout your hair. Look at the pictures on the left for example, so creative!

To state the most obvious trend for spring is the floral pattern. This pattern is cute on almost any article of clothing. My favorite place to see this design is on simple sundresses! They’re perfect for a day out shopping or lunch with your friends!

Happy spring! – Chels

Do you ever watch mermaid movies and envy their long, wavy, beautiful locks? Well I found a way to mimic that hair style and get that beautiful beachy look! Here is how:

tumblr_mkev3bisVY1qbp34lo1_1280

Wash your hair and let it air dry. You need to complete this hair style when your hair is just a little damp. Start on the side of your hair where you usually part it. Start twisting your hair. Take two small sections from the front of your head and start to twist. Each time you twist the two strands together, add a little more hair to each strand. Keep twisting your hair like a crown around your head. Twist until you get to the end of your hair and secure the twist with an elastic. Pull the end of the twist up and secure it to the top of your head with some bobby pins. Sleep with your hair in this twisty concoction and wake up a mermaid! This hair style is super quick and it doesn’t require any heat, so it doesn’t damage your hair! Sweeeeeet!

Figuring out how to part your beautiful locks can be tricky sometimes.  Determining the shape of your face can help you choose the best part for you!  Is your face round, oval, heart-shaped, or square?  Whatever the shape may be, I’ve got the perfect part for all shapes and sizes!Chelsea Crockett- side part

  • Round/circle: People with round faces tend to have larger cheeks and/or larger facial features.  Creating balance is the key!  Parting your hair to a deep side part will showcase all of your beautiful features.  Pick your strongest side to part on.  By doing so, you will essentially “cover-up” your less dominant side.
  • Heart: If you have a heart-shaped face, then your face goes from big to little.  If you have long hair, a middle part will complement these features.  Parted down the middle short hair does the opposite.  It makes your larger features look even larger.  If you have short hair, go for a slight middle part.  It will help balance everything out.
  • Square: People with square heads tend to have a bold jaw line.  To soften this feature, go for a side part.  Soft layers framing the face will help give your jaw a more round appearance.
  • Oval: You’re the lucky ones!  People with oval faces have a few features of each shape; therefore they can pull off any part.  Get creative you oval people!

Your hair part can also create the illusion of a larger or smaller forehead.  If you have a large forehead, go for the side part.  This will camouflage a portion of your forehead making it look smaller.  If you have a small forehead, go for the middle part!  Since there will be no hair to block the forehead, it will make it look bigger.  Love your hair!

I think we’re all in agreement that a bad hair day counts as an emergency… A girl’s worst nightmare!  Especially when the event you have is formal or dressy, with no time to fix up your hair.  I decided to put together three easy, on-the-go hair styles that can substitute for any fancy up-do!

Style number one… a high bun, or sock bun!  Chelsea Crockett - High BunAlthough the traditional sock bun is still cute and fashionable, I like to put a little spin on it and create a high bun.  It’s almost the same thing as a sock bun, but with a slight different look to it.  I have a tutorial on my channel titled “Easy High Bun.”  Check that out and you’re set!  It’s super simple and non-time consuming.

Style number two… a slicked back ponytail, AKA the Kardashian ponytail :)!  This one works best with longer hair.  To start out, you’ll need a ponytail, bobby pins, and some hairspray.  Leave out a small section of hair at the back of your head.  Pull your hair back into a high ponytail, making sure the elastic is tight around your hair.  After, wrap the sectioned piece of hair around the tie and secure it with a couple bobby pins.  If you have fly-a-ways, spray them down with hairspray so your ponytail looks clean and slick.

Last, but not least, style number 3… braided half-up.  Part your hair where you normally do and take one, two-inch front sections from each side of your part.  Braid both pieces and secure them together in the back with bobby pins or a small hair tie.

Hope this helps next time you’re a little off schedule!

Ever wanted to dye your hair, but your parents won’t let you?  Or maybe you’re afraid of the potential effects from hair dye?  Well, now you don’t need to worry.  There are many natural ingredients that can help tint your hair into the color you want.

  • Lemon Juice.  If you dribble a little bit of lemon juiceChelsea Crockett - Lemon Juice Hair onto your hair, it lightens it and gives you a tint of blonde highlights.  Especially for brunettes, it will start to look like you have light brown/blonde highlights!  As for blondes, you can simply lighten up your locks with lemon juice!  P.S. This only works if you’re out in the sun!  So, get some sunlight after you apply it to your hair!
  • Black Tea.  Sounds crazy but dying your hair with black tea actually works!  In order to get light brown hair, you have to mix it with a few ingredients.  If you mix together black tea, an eighth of lemon juice, and a teaspoon of olive oil and apply it to your hair, it will give you the hair color you want.  Make sure you soak your hair in it for up to 2 hours!  For a dark brown shade of hair, soak your hair in plain black tea and stay out in the sun for a couple hours!  It’s as simple as that!
  • Kool-Aid.  I know it’s not necessarily a “natural” hair dye, but it does color your hair!  Pick any Kool-Aid flavor and you can simply dye all of your hair or just a chunky strand of it!  Awesome, right?

Marc Anthony is famous for many things.  But as a beauty guru, I especially love his long line of hair products!  In many of my videos, you can find me using and talking about several of his amazing products.  One of my most recent videos, the “Go To Hairstyles for Fall,” talks about 4 of my favorite Marc Anthony products.  So, here are a few things about them and what they can do for those long locks of yours.Chelsea Crockett - Marc Anthony Hair Products

First off, scrunching my hair is a go-to style for almost everything.  For this, I use Marc Anthony’s Strictly Curls Styling Foam or the Curl Envy Styling Cream.  It gives my hair a little extra volume and enhances the natural waves in my hair.  For my roots, I like to add in a quarter amount of Marc Anthony’s Hair Thickening Cream.  It never fails to give me the texture and volume I want for my hairJ.

We all have those busy nights filled with homework, practices, etc. so I can understand when washing your hair isn’t a priority.  Luckily Marc Anthony’s 2nd Day Clear Dry Shampoo takes care of your oily hair in the mornings.  Just spray a few pumps on your roots and ends and you’re set for the day!  No one can even tell you skipped a washJ.

Lastly, the Oil of Morocco hair treatment results in frizz-free hair and soft, beautiful locks.  Next time you’re looking for the best hair products, go to Walgreens, CVS, or Rite Aid and pick up some of Marc Anthony’s.  You won’t regret it!
