It’s graduation season ladies and gentlemen, which means lots of graduation ceremonies, parties, and gifts!  If you have a lot of graduation parties to attend, the gifts can get pretty expensive and start to add up.  Here are a few DIY gift ideas that are just as good as any other graduation gift but won’t break the bank!

  • DIY canvas.Chelsea Crockett - Canvas  I know this might seem pretty basic, but creating a canvas to match your friend’s dorm room is a fun, artsy gift!  You can add her favorite saying, verse, quote, etc. like the picture on the right.
  • High school scrapbook.  If you guys were close in high school, ask your friends to put together a page to add to a scrapbook for her!  You and your friends can even all go in on it together.  It’s thoughtful and memorable!
  • A bracelet/necklace/keychain with their school’s colors.  There are so many Etsy DIY accessories that you can customize to say certain things or be a certain color.  Customize it to have her name on it or her class year and her future school’s colors!
  • Freshman year survival kit.  Everyone could use one of these!  You basically put together a basket, or “kit,” filled with different essentials every freshman needs such as pencils, snacks, band-aids, etc.
  • College gear.  I know when I left for college, I wanted every shirt, sweatshirt, bumper sticker, etc. that my school had to offer!  Order something online or check out the college’s bookstore for a cute shirt or other souvenirs!

Which idea is your favorite?  Let me know in the comment section below!

Why You Should Learn to Love Yourself Before Loving Him

Relationships can be tricky.  At our age, we’re experiencing a crucial time of self-growth, love, and confidence.  When I first started my YouTube channel, I didn’t expect to grow so much, so quickly.  With that growth, I experienced both good and bad feedback, both nice and hurtful comments.  DespiteChelsea Crockett - Love Yourself Quote the negativity, I discovered who I was over the years and have learned a few reasons why you should love yourself before loving someone else!

Self-confidence is a wonderful thing to have, but it can be so hard to attain.  Whenever I feel down or start to doubt myself, I always turn to the Bible for advice.  On the subject of loving myself, I also refer to Psalm 139:14.  It says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful.”  This is a verse that you can always lean on for a little boost! 🙂

As far as the reasons why this factor is so important before starting a relationship, there are many!  I’ve learned from experience that if you are still trying to find who you are as a person, it will be 10x harder when you’re looking to someone else for reassurance.  When you love who you are and are 100% confident with your own values, morals, and beliefs, that’s when you should share your life with another person!  I promise you, you will be so much happier.

Learn to love yourself and you’ll be so happy you did!

Well this is it… You’re finally at the home stretch.  As a freshman in high school, I never thought I would’ve actually made it to senior year with only a couple months till the next chapter of my life.  It’s both scary and exciting, but I assure you, there are bigger and better things right around the corner!  I wanted to share with you a few things I wish I would’ve known as a senior about to leave high school for good.

  • Hang out with your family more than you normally do. Chelsea Crockett - High School If you’re planning on going away to college, soak up all the family time you can get.  Ask your mom to go shopping with you or take your little sister out to lunch!
  • Appreciate your teachers, whether you want to or not.  They got you to where you are today!  Don’t hesitate to thank them by shooting them a heartfelt email.
  • Don’t let senioritis take its toll.  Senioritis is real, lemme tell ya, but I urge you to stay on top of your grades and make your last couple of months count!
  • Go to every sports game.  Participate in every student section.  Some of my best high school memories happened while I cheered on my school’s team with all of my best friends.
  • Don’t put your life on hold because of homework and studying.  With only a couple months of high school left, keep good grades but don’t miss out on life because of school.  Go to dinner with your friends or go for a night drive in the middle of the week with your boyfriend!  Make all the memories you can!

Make the most out of however long you have left in high school!

My first time going to prom, I had several questions and expectations about what prom would actually be like.  You may be thinking that prom is just like the movies, which in some ways it is… But in others, it’s just the opposite.  Here are 5 busted prom myths for the first-year prom goers!

  • You can’t go if you don’t have a date. Wrong!  Chelsea Crockett - PromYou can absolutely go solo!  Don’t let not having a date stop you from having a great night with your friends.  Make tons of memories whether you go with someone or not.
  • Prom is always expensive. That’s not always the case!  You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on your dress, shoes, etc.  If you shop smart, you can look like a million bucks at prom without spending much at all.
  • Prom night is going to be just like it is in the movies… Not exactly! Although prom night has a lot of potential, don’t stress if it’s not the absolute best night of your life.  That being said, it can also be everything you want it to be!
  • You absolutely HAVE to go to prom. Although I highly encourage it, you don’t have to go to prom!  If it’s not really your thing, don’t feel like it’s mandatory.
  • Winning prom queen is the most important thing about prom. Although prom king and queen are a pretty big deal, it’s not the only thing that happens at prom.  Don’t feel too bad if you’re not on the list of nominees!

Now that you know a little more of what to expect, make the most of your prom night!  Remember, you only do high school once!

Whether it’s your first prom or your third, it never gets any less exciting!  I know I’m not the only one who loves shopping for the perfect prom dress.  Figuring out the right style, color, and all around look that I’m searching for can be tough, but once I find the right one, it’s worth it!  If you need a place to start, here are some pointers on which color dress would look best on you!

Chelsea Crockett - Prom DressIf you have dark skin, any pastel or bright shade will most likely look good!  Try colors on the warmer end of the spectrum such as pinks, yellows, purples, etc.  These will bring out the warmness in your skin tone and highlight your skin’s glow.

If you have tan/olive skin, focus on complimenting your undertones.  Olive skinned girls are lucky because almost any color will look good!  I suggest a deep green or red, maybe even a burgundy shade like the dress on the left.  Especially if you have dark hair, try one of these colors!  If you want to really highlight your skin tone, try a bright pink that will make you look extra tan!

For the fair skinned ladies out there, pay attention to the undertone of your skin, whether it’s warmer or cooler toned.  If you have naturally rosy cheeks and a warmer skin tone, try earthy shades.  These will look beautiful on you!  If you have cooler undertones, look into purples, pinks, and blues!

I hope this narrows down your search options so finding the perfect prom dress can be a little easier!

Finals week is one of the most stressful weeks of the semester.  Whether you’re in high school or college, we all dread the finals study guides, study sessions, and finally the tests.  There are a few things to keep in mind during the week that can help you stay positive, and most importantly ace your tests to end the semester on a good note!

  • Don’t study too much.  Studying too much especially the night before can cause you to burn out on all the information you’re trying to retain.  Studies have even show that studying till early hours in the morning isn’t effective and leaves you exhausted for your test the next day!Chelsea Crockett - Finals
  • Treat yourself!  If you don’t allow yourself breaks during your study time, then you won’t last very long!  Treat yourself to a break every 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Sleep is important!  I’ve realized that when I don’t get enough sleep, all my motivation goes away.  Sleep is almost just as important as studying for doing well on your test!
  • Your grades don’t define you.  When it comes down to it, your final grade probably won’t make or break your entire semester.  Just know that whatever grade you get back doesn’t define you!  It probably won’t matter that much in a year anyways.

What tips do you live by during finals crunch time?  Share with me below!

We’re all at that crucial age of figuring out who we want to be, despite the pressure coming from friends, society, and many other factors that try to shape us into who they want us to be instead.  With all of the standards and expectations put on girls throughout social media, magazines, movies, etc., they make it hard to love the skin we’re in… But that’s exactly what we need to learn to do!  Here are 5 steps that will make you start loving yourself fully and wholeheartedly! Chelsea Crockett - Love Yourself Quote

  1. Avoid perfection.  Putting impossible standards on yourself will never make you happy!  You’ll be let down every time.  Don’t expect to be someone you can’t and shouldn’t be!
  2. Stay off of social media.  I don’t mean to delete all of your accounts and shut yourself out of them forever.  What I mean by this is to not log on just to compare yourself to every girl you see.  If you find yourself doing this, just log off and find something fun and positive to do.
  3. Look in the mirror and point out three things you love about yourself every day.  Positive reassurance is totally underrated.  It really works!  Give yourself three compliments each morning to continue finding things you love about yourself.
  4. Get the right mentality.  Having a negative attitude never helps in any situation.  Work on being happy and positive when it comes to your body.
  5. Acknowledge your achievements and treat yourself.  Sometimes we get down on ourselves for thinking that we’ve failed and just want to give up.  Acknowledge your success and focus on that!  Treat yourself so you feel rewarded and optimistic!

Hopefully you can soak in these tips and learn to appreciate yourself for who you are!

It’s not only the start of summer and the end of the school year but the beginning of many, many graduation parties! Especially if you’re a senior, like me, you’ll have dozens of parties to attend! If you’ve never been to one, it’s hard to know what to wear and what type of present you should bring. Here’s my take on it :)!

If you’re attending the party with your parents, most of the time your gift will be from your whole family. If you’re in this boat, your Chelsea Crockett - DIY Dorm Decorparents will usually give the graduate a card with money or a gift card. Most of the time, it’s your closer friends’ parties that you’re going to, so you should have an idea of what they like or don’t like. If you know their plans for college, you can make or buy a gift that could go in their dorm room! There are plenty of DIYs that are perfect for dorm décor. If you’re not on the crafty side, buy something that they can take to college with them or simply something that they’ll enjoy for their next chapter in life!

As far as outfits go, you don’t need to be over-the-top dressy, but you do need to look nice. I suggest a casual dress or jeans with a nice shirt. As for shoes, sandals or a small wedge are perfect!

I hope that’s helpful! – Chelsea

Change is scary. It can be good or bad, hard or easy, little or life-changing… Since I’m graduating high school this year, I’m expecting a lot of change within the next few months. Throughout high school, I’ve learned some valuable lessons that can help me in the next chapter of my life and simply life in general. Hopefully they can be of use to you, too!

As a senior, I’ve seen myself change in ways I didn’t think I would. I’ve realized one of my big mottos throughout the years was always “Everything happens for a reason.” Chelsea Crockett - Change QuoteAlthough that quote may be a little cliché, I’ve always trusted God’s plan in knowing that whatever happens is supposed to. With recent college decisions, I’ve had to accept and trust different aspects of the future. I’ve prayed for guidance and confidence, and God has shown me the way every time.

Another thing I always remind myself of is to surround myself with good people. My friends throughout my high school career have changed from time to time, but my best friends today have always been there for me. It is so so important to surround yourself with people who are encouraging, trustworthy, and have a good sense of humor :). They make change easier by always having your back!

My favorite verse of the Bible, as you all know, is Jeremiah 29:11. It says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” These are good words to trust full heartedly when embracing change, whether it be big or small!

Graduation Attire 101

Summer, warm weather, and days in the sun are almost here… But first, graduation! With me being a senior this year, I’m graduating and moving on to bigger and better things. Graduation is a big deal, and I obviously want to look my best for the big day. So, I came up with a little guide on how to style your outfit for graduation day!Chelsea Crockett - Graduation Dress

First comes first, know your colors. Since it’s spring, see which shades look best with your hair color and skin tone. Use those to your advantage! I love floral patterns during the spring. If you do too, you can always find the pattern you like with which colors go best with you! Not only is floral good for spring, but patterns are always fun to play around with! Don’t be too limited when it comes to patterns and materials. Stripes, lace, chevron, etc. may turn out to be your fave trend!

As far as guidelines go, make sure your dress isn’t too short or too low-cut. Although your gown will be covering up the majority of it, people will still see it for pictures and before and after the ceremony. For your shoes, I would suggest a stylish pair of wedges or casual heels. I prefer wedges because they’re more comfortable and easier to walk in (which is a good idea for walking to get your diploma!).

I hope this helped you get an idea of what outfit you’ll wear for your big day!

Prom can be a difficult night to plan and prepare for. There are so many things you should have set even weeks or months in advance! Along with your plans, it’s a necessity to have your dress, jewelry, shoes, and everything else ready to go. Let me tell you, it can be stressful! I found and came up with some tips and hacks that will make prom flow much easier!

  • Oftentimes when I wear a pair of heels, my feet slide all over the place. Chelsea Crockett - Lipstick TipSpray your feet with hairspray, especially the heel, before putting on your shoes. This will prevent them from slipping all night long!
  • One of the most annoying things about makeup is how quickly it can fade or rub off. If you want your lipstick to last longer, add a thin layer of lipstick, then a layer of powder, followed by another thin layer of lipstick or gloss.
  • Carry a mini beauty kit in your clutch. Always have lip gloss, bobby pins, gum/mints, powder foundation, etc. Throw in whatever can fit and whatever you think could come in handy.
  • If an unexpected pimple pops up, there’s not much you can do to automatically get rid of it, but you’re not out of luck! Take an ice cube and apply it to the area for 30-45 seconds. It doesn’t get rid of it, but it reduces the redness around it and makes it less noticeable!

What prom hacks are you going to use this year? Let me know below so I can use them, too!

As my senior year is nearing to an end, I can’t help but reflect on the past four years of my high school career. There are both things I wish I would’ve done and things that I would change. I thought I’d share some advice I wish I would’ve considered at the start of my freshman year.

  • Be too friendly. Say hi to even the people you barely know. You might not be friends with everyone at the end of the day but being kind goes a lot further than you think.
  • Go to every football game, every dance, every play. You might not know it yet, but these events will be where most of your memories are made. Chelsea Crockett - Senior Year
  • Take lots of pictures and videos! My friends know every time we do something I’ll usually have my camera or phone ready to go. Trust me, it’ll be worth it to capture every moment!
  • Get involved! There are so many clubs I would’ve joined if I knew how fun it is to be involved and meet people outside of your class, sport, etc.
  • Don’t worry too much about not having a boyfriend. I cannot stress this enough! Most high school relationships come with drama and added stress. That being said, don’t be afraid to go on dates or be in relationships. Just know your worth and save most of your time for your friends and family!
  • Lastly, don’t overthink that one bad grade you got on a test. Most of the time, you won’t even remember that grade in a year, or even a month.

Whether you’re a freshman or a soon-to-be graduate, make the rest of high school years count!

I love prom and school dances but oftentimes they come with stupid drama that can be so easily avoided! Situations get made into bigger deals than they actually are which can cause unneeded gossip and drama. I put together some tips on how you can avoid any prom drama this year so you can end the school year on a good note!

I know a couple schools around my area use social media to their advantage! A girl in the senior class usually creates a Facebook group for that prom year and adds anyone that is going into it! Then basically everyone keeps adding people they know that are going. The purpose Chelsea Crockett - Prom Articleis to post your dress once you finally purchase it. It lessens the amount of repeats and lessens the amount of drama when two girls have the same dress!

Once again, technology can save the day! If most of the people in your group have iPhones, make a prom group chat! Instead of one person coming up with picture and dinner plans, everyone can pitch in ideas and suggestions. You can even take a vote to make your schedule for the night! This way people can’t get mad about not getting a say in what their group’s plans are for the night.

Another tip is to plan ahead. Know who’s in your group, the time you’re meeting, where you’re going, etc. It’s never good to wait last minute. This will not only save you from unneeded drama, but will make your prom less stressful altogether!

Let me know how your prom night is :)! – Chelsea

As teenagers, there are many things we have to start paying for. Whether it be a car, gas, college, or simply a new pair of shoes you’ve been wanting, we have to find jobs to support our needs… or wants :). Job interviews and having the spotlight on you might not be your cup of tea, so I’m here to give you some advice on how to kill it anyway!

  • Be confident. You have just as much of a shot as anyone else. Just be focused and know that confidence is key! You have to believe in yourself in order to have success.Chelsea Crockett - Interview Tips
  • Be professional. Some people think it’s overrated to make eye contact, shake hands, be polite, arrive on time, dress appropriately, etc. It’s not! A lot of bosses who are in charge of hiring employees will look for these things. It shows you’re not only personable but confident, too.
  • Be honest. If you don’t have experience, don’t say that you do! If you can only work certain days, tell them! Don’t sugarcoat anything then end up in a jam when you’re hired. This being said, don’t hesitate to talk yourself up by addressing your good qualities!
  • Be prepared. A lot of job interviews ask the same questions: “Do you have experience?” “Why are you good for this job?” “What are your positive qualities?” Most places will require a resume usually prior to the interview as well.

I hope this helped you feel a little more prepared for any upcoming interviews you may have!

Senior pictures are going to be some of the last professional pics you get before you’re out of college and all grown up! Some people think they’re overrated, but I love the idea of picking out a few stylish outfits and having a photoshoot all for yourself. I came up with a little outfit guide if you’re stumped on the best way to dress for your senior pictures!

First and foremost, your pictures are solely for you. You need to wear what clothes will represent you best! If you’re a girly girl and love preppy, pink sundresses, rock them! Maybe you prefer a minimal look with boyfriend jeans, a tee, and booties. Show it off! These pictures are the one time you can say they’re 100% about you and for you, so make sure you wear what shows your personality best.

Of course, this part will vary on who you have taking your pictures. But if you’re not completely sure what to bring,Chelsea Crockett - Selfie I suggest two casual outfits and two dressy outfits. For example, I would possibly take a romper and a nice dress. For casual looks, a pair of dark and light skinny jeans with nice, interchangeable shirts is perfect! You can always dress them up with wedges, accessories, and a cute sun hat! I love this outfit I wore on the right, it’s a great example! A long sleeved tan shirt, a chunky necklace, and a maroon hat all tie together nicely :).

If I had to put it into two words: be yourself! Look like your natural, beautiful self!

Good luck! – Chels
