The season of homecoming and formal is well among us!  Maybe you’re attending your high school’s homecoming or your college sorority’s formal.  Either way, you’ll need an amazing dress to make your night the best it can be!  Here are a few dress trends to check out this homecoming season. 🙂

  • Statement Sleeves. This season is all about fun, statement sleeves!  Dresses with off-the-shoulder sleeves are a good way to spice up any simple dress.  Keep an eye out for lace, sheer, or other materials that make for the perfect sleeves to add something extra to your dress.
  • Velvet is HUGE right now in the fashion world! Chelsea Crockett - Maxi Romper It’s a timeless trend that’s gotten the spotlight recently.  Velvet dresses are classy, feminine, and put a twist on any plain dress.
  • Maxi Romper. Like the picture on the right, there are so many fashionable maxi rompers you can dress up to create the perfect homecoming/formal outfit!  I love these because they’re different from other basic dresses and rompers (it’s like a two-in-one!).
  • Cut Outs. These have been in the past couple of years and they’re still in!  Especially no backs, these can spice up any dress you’re looking for!

Which trend are you going to rock this year?  Tell me in the comment section below!

If you’re still in high school, you may be unfamiliar with the term “formal.”  Formals are kind of like the college version of a homecoming dance put on by a fraternity or sorority!  If you’re new to the college world and need some advice on an upcoming spring formal, here are some tips and pointers!

  • You don’t have to have a date in order to go to formal. Chelsea Crockett - Romper More girls go solo than you think.  Get dressed up, grab a group of friends, and go have fun by yourself!
  • Although you should dress up, dresses aren’t a must.  You can rock a fancy romper and heels (such as the picture on the right) or a stylish jumpsuit.  Unlike high school homecomings, you’ll see tight and loose dresses, dresses and rompers, wedges and heels, etc.
  • Don’t be afraid to hit the dance floor.  Unlike high school dances where it can sometimes be awkward to dance, most people will be dancing at formal!  No one cares what you look like or whether or not you have a date.  Get out of your chairs and dance like crazy!
  • You can make plans before and after just like you did for high school dances.  Get ready with your friends beforehand, make dinner reservations, and host an afterparty!
  • Formals are a lot more laid back, and a lot less stressful, than prom and homecoming.  Like I said, you don’t have to bring a date or make a day full of plans surrounding the event.  Just simply have fun!

Have fun at your formal and make lots and lots of memories! 🙂

3 Homecoming Must-Haves: Guide to a Perfect Outfit

Homecoming season is here and I couldn’t be more excited! Getting dressed up, taking a million pictures, a night with all your BFFs… Three of my favorite things in one night! Although the night itself is extremely fun, leading up to the event can be pretty stressful. You must find the essentials needed to make your outfit amazing. Here are 3 things you can write on the top of your Hoco to-do list!

First comes first, you’re going to need a fabulous dress (duh!). Windsor, BeBe, and Express are only a few of the several stores you can shop at! Keep in mind the style and color you want. Walking into those types of stores without an idea in your head can sometimes seem overwhelming! And if you find a dress you love while on the search for another, try it on too!Chelsea Crockett - Heels

Second, you’ll want to purchase some stylish heels. (Depending on the type of person you are, you may want to wear flats. You decide!) If your dress is super simple, I suggest rocking some statement heels! If your dress already has a lot going on, then tone your shoes down with a solid color pair of heels.

Lastly, you’ll need lots of accessories to finish off your look! It’ll all depend on your dress and shoes, but I suggest wearing a necklace, earrings, and a clutch. Consider the style and how formal your dress is. You don’t want an extremely formal dress with over the top earrings and an over the top necklace. Make sure everything balances and fits together!

I can’t wait to see what gorgeous outfits you come up with for homecoming!

Since it’s my season year, this is the last homecoming I get to experience before I graduate. I’m hoping to make it the best one yet! Homecoming night is filled with tons of memories, pictures, and festivities and will be added to the list of your favorite high school memories. Over the years, I’ve noticed a few things that are perfect for a homecoming do’s and don’ts list.Chelsea Crockett - Homecoming Dress

  • First and foremost, allow yourself plenty of time to get ready. Too many times have I seen girls stressing about a time crunch or having a panic attack while trying to finish their hair and makeup. Start with more time than you think you’ll need just in case!
  • I always hear about girls stressing to find the perfect date. Don’t worry, that’s not all what homecoming’s about! Sure, it’s fun to have a date, but going with a group of friends is just as fun! Side note: if you have a date, don’t cling onto him the whole night. You can have fun with him and all your BFFs at the same time!
  • As an avid Instagrammer and photographer, I like capturing every moment (ask my friends, they’ll tell you!). Make sure you take lots of pictures to remember your fun night! You’d rather take too many than not enough.
  • This tip is pretty obvious, but can often be forgotten. Plan ahead! If you need to make dinner reservations, do it weeks ahead. If you need jewelry and heels to finish off your outfit, get them far in advance. You’d rather be safe than sorry!
  • Lastly, have fun! Homecoming is a night to have a blast and make tons of memories with your friends. Don’t get caught up in the stress of the night!

Have fun! – Chelsea

Have you ever seen a dress in a fashion show and would die to wear it? A website called “Rent the Runway” can make your dream come true! Their concept is absolutely genius. By simply making an account on www.renttherunway.com, you can start your process of finding the perfect dress!

Chelsea Crockett - Rent the Runway DressesOkay, so here’s how it works. First off, you join the website (obviously) for free. Then, you can start your online shopping spree! Not only can you rent a dress for possibly homecoming or prom, but you can rent fashionable accessories, as well. For example, say you wanted to rent a dress by one of the most famous fashion designers, Vera Wang. If one of her dresses on the site is $1300 retail price, you can rent it for around $100 or less! Then, once your event is over, send the dress back. It’s that simple! Vera Wang is only one of the many designers to choose from. BCBGMaxazria, Kate Spade, and Lilly Pulitzer are also on the list with tons of others. When you hover over the “dresses” tab, you can choose from top rated, most popular, etc. The “occasions” tab, which I think is probably the coolest, helps you sort events into categories such as formal, night out, daytime etc. It makes finding your dress a lot easier.

So, maybe your homecoming hasn’t happened yet… Or maybe you have a formal wedding around the corner and are still in search for that stylish dress. Whatever the occasion, Rent the Runway guarantees you your ideal dress. And how fun is that to wear something that’s created by a world famous fashion designer? If you choose to go this route, let me know below which dress you picked!

Best Homecoming Hair for your Face Shape

Believe it or not, homecoming is just around the corner! You’ve got a lot of preparation to get to! There are so many things to think about: the dress, the group your going with, your DATE, where your going to take pictures…the last thing you want to be worrying about is your hair! I am here to help you pick out your perfect homecoming hair style, because you’ve got enough to worry about as it is!

  1. Heart shaped face: Ladies with this face shape have a broad forehead and then their face starts to taper from the cheeks photo (7)and jaw line down to the chin. I have this face shape! Since the lower part of the face is narrower compared to the upper portion, you want to draw attention to the lower part of the face. The best hair-do to help you achieve this goal is the half-up half-down look. Curl all of your hair and then pull the upper part towards the crown back while the rest falls gently around your shoulders.
  2. Round face: For my round faced babes, your goal should be to take attention away from the cheeks and ears. This will make your face not look wider than it really is! One way to do this is to draw attention up and elongate your face. A hair style that helps you do this is an intricate bun or sleek high pony tail. Never under estimate the impact of a strategically placed pony tail.
  3. Narrow or oval face: You lucky ducks have it made. The shape of your face is ideal because the proportions are just right. Truth is, you can do just about anything to your hair. The updoo that will highlight your beautifully shaped face is to pull all of your hair back into a bun. You can leave some loose wispy hairs down to give you a more wistful look if you prefer.

I hope this helps you choose which homecoming hair style is right for you! I am sure you will look gorgeous no matter what style you choose.

For homecoming, us girls don’t only need a stunning dress and a fancy pair of heels, but a gorgeous hairstyle, as well! For prom, I usually like to go to a salon and have my hair fixed, but for homecoming, I like to try new ideas that I can style myself.  So… I decided to put together a few of my favorite looks.Chelsea Crockett - Loose Curls

If you have long hair, you might want to try some beachy waves with a wand! Take half of your hair in the front and pin it back with bobby pins. Be sure to tease the upper portion of the back of your hair. Make sure your waves are messy yet dressy like the style on the right!

Another look for medium to long hair is a lower messy bun.  You can leave some pieces out to frame around your face.  Tease the back of your hair slightly and wrap the hair into a messy bun.  I love to google images of messy buns and then reenact them on my own hair.  You can also find tutorials all over the internet to help you get just the right look!

For those of you with super short hair, headbands are really in and fun to add to your look. They can be casual or elegant.  Be sure to shop for a headband that matches your dress. They’re stylish and let you do something fun with your hair!

Whatever your look is, enjoy your evening!  High school goes by so quickly….make the most of it!

The Dos and Don’ts of Homecoming

Hi Girls!

It’s about that time again, a time to get dressed up, hangout with your friends, and dance the night away.  It’s homecoming!!  Now, I’m sure you’re used to all the fashion advice that surrounds homecoming, but what about all the other homecoming advice that’s out there?!  I’m going to break down the dos and don’ts of homecoming 2013!Chelsea Crockett- homecoming banner

  • Do: Go with your girlfriends and closet friends!
  • Don’t: Don’t be obsessed about a guy asking you to go to homecoming.  Just have fun with your friends and being YOU!
  • Do: Be simple!  Have everyone over to one of your friends’ houses to take pictures!  This way, everyone can hangout for a little bit before and after.
  • Don’t:  There’s no need to go to the city or a fancy place to take pictures for homecoming, it’s not prom!
  • Do: Carpool to the dance!
  • Don’t:  Renting a limo or party bus for homecoming can be expensive!  Save that expense for prom.
  • Do: Wear a dress that shows off your personality.
  • Don’t: Make sure you don’t look like you’re going to the club!
  • Do: Wear comfy shoes.  Try to pick a shorter heel.
  • Don’t:  You won’t be able to move on the dance floor in 7 inch stilettos!

Another fun thing to do for homecoming is have a potluck!  Have everyone bring their favorite appetizer, entrée, or dessert and set it out for everyone to enjoy.  It’ll save lots of money and you’ll be able to visit with your friends in a more relaxed setting.  You also don’t have to worry about making those pesky dinner reservation. Have a great time at your dance!  It’s a time to remember so take lots of pictures!

Have fun,

Chelsea

Last Sunday was one of the greatest award shows out of the whole year! Hundreds of celebrities gathered for the Video Music Awards in California and I know I wasn’t the only one wishing to be there! With homecoming dances just around the corner, what better way to get some inspiration than from the hottest dress trends at the VMAs?

Black and white dresses seemed to be a norm on the red carpet this year. Chelsea Crockett - Fifth HarmonyThe entire Fifth Harmony clan had a perfect variety of simple, yet classy, black and white dresses. Other celebrities such as Kylie Jenner and Beyoncé pulled off the look just as well.

Another common seen trend at the VMAs was shimmer and sequins. If you want a fun look for homecoming, I definitely suggest a little glitter! Jennifer Lopez looked stunning in her sparkling dress! If you like some shimmer, it’s a perfect way to dress up your look for homecoming without going too over the top.

Now this last “trend” isn’t exactly what most people would think of when I say the word trend… but it’s probably the best one there is! Being yourself is something that each celebrity has definitely stayed committed to at the VMAs. If you look through the red carpet pictures, you’ll see tons of different styles, patterns, and pieces. No matter who it was, they stuck with their own style not caring of what people thought. I encourage you to do the same when picking out your signature dress :)!

With Homecoming dances right around the corner, I bet you’ll be shopping for a fun dress.  Whether it’s high-low, glitter peplum, or color block sequin, Windsor has what you are looking for.   They offer nice dresses that won’t break the bank!  So if you are a girl on a budget, go to Windsor and start shopping now.Chelsea Crockett - Windsor Dresses

Once you’ve chosen your dress, remember to top it off with some jewelry. Windsor also offers earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings that will add bling to any look!  Remember not to overdo it with bling if your dress already has sequins and/or glitter.  Tasteful earrings and a bracelet will be plenty.

Last, but not least, your new outfit will require some amazing shoes.  Comfort is always important when choosing your shoes.  However, sometimes us girls have to suffer a little in sparkling heels to put the cherry on top (or bottom! Haha) of our dazzling homecoming look.  Once again, Windsor has it all!  They offer T-strap, ankle cuff, whisky open toed pumps, and lace crochet booties.  So, what are you waiting for?  Grab a friend and go shopping or get online as soon as possible!  Happy homecoming!

How to Style Your Jewelry: Not Too Much or Too Little

Hey girls!

Knowing how to style your jewelry can be hard.  You want to balance it just right without wearing too much or too little.  The amount of jewelry you wear and how much “bling” it has differs from going to school to dressing up for prom!Chelsea Crockett - Cross Necklace

As for a causal day at school, I like to keep it super simple.  For my earrings, I usually just wear studs.  As for a necklace, I would suggest a small one that lays just below your collar bone such as a cross one on the right.  This keeps your jewelry balanced and pretty easy!

If you’re wondering how to style your accessories for more of a formal event such as prom or homecoming, no need to worry!  This isn’t as hard as you think!  Getting a simple, yet attention-catching, pair of dangle earrings will look great with your gorgeous dress!  Finish it off with beautiful necklace that hangs just right with your dress.

One of the things I try to stick with is the same color of my jewelry.  I try to avoid mix-matching such as a silver necklace with a gold bracelet.  Some magazines even say it’s a major don’t in the fashion world!  So, before you leave the house, make sure your jewelry is color coded!
