The Tomboy Trend: How to Still Look Girly

Hi Insiders,

Nothing says comfy-cozy like throwing on an over-sized tee and a pair of sneakers.  Lucky for you, the tomboy trend has been seen all over the streets of NYC and LA and is totally acceptable to rock!  So what if you want to try the trend, but are afraid of looking too much like a boy?  Follow a few of my simple tips to give the tomboy look a girly flare.

The tomboy trend focuses on over-sized clothing, comfortable shoes, and messy hair.  Although it may sound impossible, it IS possible to make this look girly.  Instead of wearing an over-sized tee, try an over-sized sweater instead.  A sweater instantly takes the look from masculine to feminine.  Go for a sweater that hit below the waist, it should not be form fitting.  If you’re not one to wear baggy pants, then leggings are always a great option.  Add your favorite pair of sneakers and a ball cap and your tomboy outfit is complete! Chelsea Crockett- tomboy look

Another great tomboy look is skinny ripped jeans with a tee and open flannel.  It’s a really simple look that I’m sure you can find in your closet already! Don’t afraid to add a pair of stud earrings for a little more added girliness.  Take advantage of this comfy trend while it is popular!  Trends are always changing!

Chelsea

  • If you need to look a bit more professional, try it with a blazer!  It’s a classic when paired with slacks or skinnies and flats or heels.  There are so many possibilities!
  • Throw it on with skinny jeans or a pair of shorts.  Tuck it in or leave it out.
  • Nothing looks sleeker than a basic white tee.  Dress it up with jewelry, fun shoes, sun glasses, and more!
  • Tuck it in to a maxi or skater skirt!  It’s the perfect way to dress down a rather dressy skirt.  This look is perfect for shopping or hitting downtown.
  • Make it grungy with army!  Pair your white tee with an army coat and a beanie.  It’s the ultimate skater look.
  • Go crazy with prints!  Add a printed pair of pants or a skirt to liven up your look.  Since the tee is so basic, it’s totally acceptable to grab a crazy print to go with it.

If you don’t have a basic white tee, go get one…NOW!  It’s great to have a v-neck and scoop neck style to change it up every once in a while.  They are usually inexpensive and can be found almost anywhere!  Comment below and tell me how you rocked your basic white tee!

Love you all!

If you’re like me, you like a good DIY! Today I am going to show you my top 3 favorite cutoff denim short DIYs.

My first denim DIY is the bleached cutoffs! These are super easy and hipster-ish. I prefer to do this DIY with high waisted shorts. I went to Goodwill and picked up a pair of old high-waisted jeans, brought them home, and cut them into shorts! If you want the shorts to be rolled, then cut them a little longer so you can roll them up. Take your shorts and put them in a laundry tub. Make sure to wear rubber gloves during this next step! Then, mix 2 parts water and 1 part liquid bleach into your bucket. When you put the shorts in the water, only put the bottoms of the shorts in because the bleach will climb up them. Check on the shorts every hour or so and take them out when you have the desired color! Make sure to rinse the shorts out really well and then put them in the washer. Viola!

Chelsea Crockett cutoffsThe second DIY is lace cutoffs! First, find a pair of jeans you want to cut into shorts. Next, cut a triangle shaped hole in the outside seam of each leg of the shorts. Next, cut Triangles a bit larger than the holes you cut in the shorts out of the lace. Pin the triangles of lace to your shorts over the holes that you cut. Then sew the lace on, and Viola! Easy peasy! Desktop79

Now go rock your fresh new DIYs!

Prints are huge this fall and one of my favorite prints this season is polka dots!  From denim to sweaters, this print can be found in so many different materials.  Sometimes, styling polka dots can be difficult since it’s such a bold print.  I’ll give you a few tricks, tips, and ideas on how to rock your polka dot item.Chelsea Crockett- polka dots

Whether you going for the casual or business look, polka dots will keep you looking classy!  A casual way to wear polka dots is to style a pair of polka dot denim jeans.  Usually you can find these in a variety of colors from dark denim with light denim dots to white denim with black dots.  Pair these skinny jeans with a solid colored basic tee and a pair of your favorite flats.  If it’s chilly, throw on a light sweater and you’re good to go!  You don’t want to over shadow the pants (Throwing on a fedora is an awesome accessory too).  Another fun way to wear polka dots is on a sweater.  Find a chic print sweater and tuck it into a pencil skirt.  It’s still professional, but has a fun and girly twist to it.  Chunky necklaces are always a great accessory to go with a scoop neck sweater.  Glam it up!  Polka dot is a clean, classic print that will never go out of style.  Comment below and give me your fashion ideas for styling polka dots!

Do you hate going jean shopping?  The sizes are crazy, some are too short or too long, they fit in the waist, but are too tight in the thighs, the color is weird, etc.  There are so many crazy reasons why jean shopping can stink!  I’m sure many of you can relate when I say that some styles of jeans look awkward on me.  Well, I’m going to help you find your perfect jean for your body type!Chelsea Crockett- jeans

Curvy body type: Try a solid colored jean.  When the jean is faded, it can create the illusion of a thicker leg.  No one wants that!  Also, try rolling your jeans at the hem.  This will add width at the hem, which balance out the hips.  Slim skinny jeans will also flaunt your figure!

Long legs:  If you’ve got long legs, then you’ll want to show them off!  Try buying jeans that are tight in the thighs and wide at the leg.  This will make your legs look even longer and really show them off!

If you’re short: Tight skinny jeans can actually make you look shorter.  Try a pair of loose jeans that don’t hug your body.  They’ll create a good illusion.

Hopefully this little guide helps you on your next jean shopping adventure!!

Hi Lovelies,

Metallic colors have made a splash this year!  They are so easy to incorporate into your wardrobe, especially silver and gold.  These metallics are the new black!  Check out how to add a hint of metallic into your outfits this year.Chelsea Crockett- metallic outfit

Adding a metallic item to any outfit will make it shine!  You can start simple by painting you nails a metallic hue or throwing on a metallic sling handbag as a shiny accessory.  If you really want to dive into the metallic trend, start off by pairing a metallic tee, blouse, or tank in any color you prefer, with black or white skinny jeans.  If you’re wearing a light colored metallic, aim for light colored pants and dark colored pants if you’re wearing a dark colored metallic.  If you really want to go all out, try a pair of metallic pants or a dress.  Metallic pants have been seen all over the runways by the hottest designers.  One of my favorite looks is gold pants with a black or cream top.  Add gold jewelry and a solid colored pair of matte shoes to finish off your look.  If you want to wear a metallic dress, like a silver dress for example, keep the accessories to a minimum.  The dress is enough of a staple in itself!

I hope you try the metallic trend this year!  Comment below if you’ve found a new, fun way to rock a metallic colored item.  Enjoy!

How To Tuck Non-Skinny Jeans into Boots

Have you ever had the cutest pair of jeans and wanted to wear them with boots, but you couldn’t because the jeans weren’t skinny jeans and wouldn’t fit into your boots? This problem can easily be solved! With this simple trick, you can take your favorite pair of bell-bottom or wide-legged pants and turn them into skinny jeans! All you will need is your favorite pair of jeans, a smashing pair of boots, and some high socks.

How to tuck them:

1. Pull on your favorite pair of jeans. The tighter around the thighs and knees the better!

2. Roll up the legs of your jeans into a nice cuff. the cuff should come up about 5 inches. After you have cuffed the jeans, pull the cuffs tight around your legs. There should be some extra material once you have pulled the cuffs tight, so you need to take the extra and fold it over the tightened cuffs. Make sure to hold all of this tight, because that is what is making your jeans into skinny jeans.

3. Now that you have the cuffs pulled tight and the extra material folded over it and tightened, put on your high socks and pull them up over the folded cuffs to hold them in place. Now slip on your boots and make sure that your socks are not sticking out and that your jeans are not bunching. If neither of those things are happening, then you are totally good to go!

Now that you know how to transform any pair of jeans into skinny jeans, the possibilities are endless!

Hey insiders!

Since fall’s almost here, it’s time to break out your pants and pack up your shorts.  As autumn’s cool months roll in, you’ll be seeing everything from patterned leggings to colorful jeans.

First, I want to talk all about jeans.  Not just denim, but solids, stripes, polka dots, and lots more.  Solid colored jeans are my favorite because they’re super cute, but still extremely casual.  You can wear these to school without being too “dressed up” but still catch other’s attention with your fashionable outfitWink.  Pair them with a matching scarf and you’re set!  Check them out here:http://tiny.cc/ColoredJeans!Chelsea Crockett - Patterned Jeans

Another popular trend that I see repeat almost every fall, is patterned jeans.  I love, love, love fun patterns and colors so you can guess I own a pair or two of these!  A few hot patterns are floral, striped, plaid, and printed.  Some are extra creative and add studs or even lace!

Of course, I can’t forget leggings.  One of my favorite things about fall are big, over-sized sweaters.  Wearing a cute pair of leggings is a great idea to pair with those comfy sweaters.  Just like jeans, you can find solid colored or printed leggings!  They even have galaxy and cross printed ones!

Hope this gives you a little help to prepare for fall!

Hey darlings!  Blazers are one of my favorite articles of clothing that give off a sophisticated feel to your outfit.  They can be dressed up or even dressed down.  Finding a perfect outfit to pair with your blazer isn’t hard at all with a few helpful pointers!

  1. Throw on a blazer with your favorite pair of colored skinny jeans.  Adding a pop of color to any outfit is nice, but pairing them with a black blazer looks even better.  Although sophisticated, it still gives off a fun, young feel.Chelsea Crockett - Blazer w scarf
  2. Try adding a scarf!  Whether it’s colorful or black and white, adding this creates an older look and makes you look even classierWink.
  3. Crop tops!  Surprisingly, crop tops work with almost anything.  They provide a sleek look to your blazer and bring a chic and edgy feel to your outfit, as well.
