Sin is the root cause of all evil.  Because people sin, the world is filled with sin and evil.  It has been this way since Adam and Eve’s first sin.good_evil_post

In some ways it may seem that violence is worse today than in the past.  Weapons are more destructive than ever before.  There are more guns and knives and more ways of hurting people than ever before.  As these weapons get more powerful, so does the power to hurt others.

But in reality, violence and evil come out of evil hearts that are separated from God.  As long as people rebel against God, we will have violence and evil in the world.

Key Verse: Romans 12:21

Hi Insiders!
As all of you know, my favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11.  It states,
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares The Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  We serve a big God!  He wants to do new and big things in your lives and mine.

Chelsea Crockett - Jeremiah 29 11With God on our side, anything is possible.  God can open doors and opportunities that you may think are impossible.  Start making room in your mind for what God may have in store for you.  You must conceive it in your heart and mind before you can receive it.  Pray for wisdom about decisions and then wait expectantly to hear from God.

Keep your “spiritual eyes” focused on positive thoughts so your life can move in that direction.  Focus on the good things in life and continually give thanks. Start your day with faith, spend time with God, and then wait for his favor to help you rise above life’s challenges.  Remember today is the first day of the rest of your life…..A New Year, A New You!

                                                Blessings,

Idols are simply pictures or statues of imaginary gods.  Actually, most people who have idols don’t worship the idols but the gods they represent.  Some people, however, think that an idol itself can help them.

People want to believe in things that they can see and touch, so they make things they can see.  But we cannot see God because God is spirit.  As Christians, we do not make or worship idols because idols take our attention away from worshiping the one true God.

Key Verse: John 1:18

Mission in Motherhood

Mission in Mother Hood with Chelsea CrockettHave you ever had those really strange moments in your life when everyone had stopped laughing at a joke, but for some reason, you just kept laughing long after it was told?  Many of those times for me, are now funny  stories we will tell our grandchildren someday about their parents.   One of those times was one early morning when Chelsea was around one year old.  She was crying and coughing in her bed, so the video baby monitor woke us.  We noticed that on the screen, she was sitting up and it looked like there was white fluff all over her crib.    When we went in to check on her, we found out that not only did Chelsea not appreciate being wet, she also discovered that her diaper didn’t taste very good either.  Yes,… Chelsea was digging at her wet diaper and trying to eat it.  Nice one, Chels.

While being a parent is entertaining, it can also be trying at times.  The difficulty lies in the fact that many times, we forget that being a parent takes commitment on our parts.  It is so easy to become exhausted with everyday life that we forget to teach our kids about discipline and setting limits for them in their lives.  Family lives are so busy that “surviving the hectic, busy day” is the theme, while guiding and teaching is low on the priority list.

One of the challenges that I’ve faced this year was from this very thing!  We were so busy prioritizing our schedules, we neglected our priorities.  While we had good intentions to sit down together at night to eat as a family,  it rarely happened.  The stress began to eat away at our patience for each other, and our over-all health was deteriorating.  The symptoms ranged from migraine headaches, arthritis, panic attacks, insomnia,- and the list goes on and on and on. Recently, we’ve been getting our priorities in order.  One of the things that I’m working on as a mom is to become more healthy and to help my family do the same.  We’ve been working on understanding proper nutrition, as well as what we are deficient in.  We are working hard to eliminate the toxins from our lives.  Another goal of mine is to guide and steer our family into thinking about a family mission statement.

My personal mission statement as a mom is to be an energetic mother who loves and knows God fully, follows his lead, and leaves a legacy of christian love to her kids. Sounds really good, doesn’t it?  Well, I have to admit…..some of it, I stole from our pastor’s sermon this past week.  In fact, if you would like to see this sermon, you can go to www.fbmaryville.org.  The sermon was titled, “Love and Limits”.

As “Mother’s Day” approaches, I hope and pray you feel empowered to become the mother that you are called to be.  Isaiah 40:11 says, “He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.”

In this Old Testament promise, spoken by the prophet Isaiah, the Lord clearly states his commitment to guide and protect mothers and to care for their children.  It is hard to believe that someone could love our children as much as we do, but he really does.   I don’t know about you, but I find this to be very encouraging.

Prayer does not have to be very formal and serious.  Prayer can be natural, like having a talk with a friend.  Whenever we have a need, we can just talk to God.  We can tell him what we are excited about, tell him what worries us, or ask him for help.  So when we pray, we are just asking God.  We are talking to our best friend.

We can pray about anything, anytime, anywhere, because God loves us.

Key Verse: Psalm 34:4

There are many kinds of Bibles because there are many kinds of people.  But they all contain the same message.  Different Bibles meet different needs.  Some Bibles are very small so you can carry them with you.  Others are big so you can see the words better.  Some Bibles use everyday words to make the Bible easy to read  and the lessons easy to learn.  Some Bibles have notes, maps, and charts to help people understand the parts that are different from today.  The purpose of all these different Bibles is to help people understand what God is saying so they can obey him.

Key Verse: 1 Timothy 4:13

When we’re being attacked by mosquitoes, it’s easy to wonder why God made pests and other animals that can harm us.  When God created the world, it was perfect.  Only after sin entered the picture did animals and human beings become enemies, causing humans to protect and defend themselves.  So now mosquitoes try to feed off of us.  They, in turn, become food for birds and bats.  In the future, in the new heaven and new earth, animals won’t hurt people or each other.

Key verses: Isaiah 11:6-9

A person can pray at any time and in any need.  When people do bad things or make mistakes, they need God more than at any other time.  When we do something wrong, we need to talk with God about it.  We need to admit that what we did was wrong, say that we’re sorry, and ask him to forgive us.  That is the first thing we should pary when we do something bad.  Then God can help us learn so that we can do better next time.  God knows we are not perfect, and he wants to help us by giving us wisdom and helping us change.

If we ait until we are good enough to pray, we will never pray.

Key Verse: Luke 18:13-14

christian_cross_fish_150God wrote the Bible over many, many years, a long time ago– long before computers, cars, and even before books.  The people who wrote down God’s words used scrolls of paper made from papyrus leaves and animal skin.  They wrote it over a period of 1,500 years, from the time of Moses to the apostle John.  Even though the Bible was written hundreds of years before we were born, it is still up-to-date.  When we read the stories and understand what God is saying, we learn how we should live today.

How do we know that what the Bible says is True?

The Bible is true because it is God’s Word, and God always speaks the truth.  When you read the Bible, you will see that it says it is the Word of God.

christian_cross_fishThe Bible is true because it is God’s Word, and God always speaks the truth.  When you read the Bible, you will see that it says it is the Word of God.  The Bible also says that every word in it is true.  But if that doesn’t convince you, read the Bible and see for yourself that everything makes sense.  When you read it, you will think, This sounds right!  This is true.  The Bible has also proven to be true over the many hundreds of years since it was written.  For example, many events predicted in the Bible have happened, just as it said they would.
