Since most of us don’t have the time or money to go to Starbucks every day, it’s time to learn some DIY fruity drink recipes we can make right in our homes!  There’s nothing better than hitting up the pool with some refreshing drinks at hand.  Here are 3 drink recipes that are healthy, hydrating, and delicious!

  • Watermelon Agua Fresca.Chelsea Crockett - Fruity Drink  For this recipe, you’ll need 3 cups of cubed watermelon, ¼ cup of lime juice, 4 mint leaves, 2 cups of water, and ice!  Add all of the ingredients except the mint leaves in a blender and mix them together until it is well blended.  Refrigerate the mixture for a few hours if you want it to be cooler, or else simply add a few mint leaves and ice cubes and enjoy!
  • Fizzy Pineapple Punch.  For this delicious punch, you’ll need a 6 oz. can of limeade, a 12 oz. can of pineapple juice, 4 ½ cups of cold water, 1 liter of club soda, assorted fruits, and mint leaves.  In a large pitcher, mix together the juices, water, and club soda.  Put the fruits and ice cubes in different glasses and pour the punch in.  Finish it off with some mint leaves for decoration like the picture on the right! 🙂
  • Lemon Pineapple Kiwi Sparkling Mocktail.  You’ll need 1 kiwi, 3 teaspoons of pineapple juice, 1 teaspoon of honey, and 1 can of La Croix sparkling lemon water.  Blend together the unpeeled kiwi, pineapple juice, and honey.  Split the mixture into glasses and fill the rest the glass the rest of the way with the sparkling water.  And lastly, enjoy!

Which one are you going to try out?  I’ve tried all three and they’re so, so good! 🙂

Sleeping in late? Buying low-fat foods?  Sipping on fruit juice to get your necessary vitamins?  These all sound healthy, right?  WRONG!  Many “healthy” acts aren’t so healthy after all.  You’d be surprised to find out what healthy acts and items I’m talking about.  Keep on reading to find out how you can live a healthier life!Chelsea Crockett- low fat foods

  • When you’re out to eat, skip the hand sanitizer and go to the bathroom to wash your hands with good old-fashioned soap and water. Hand sanitizer dries out the skin and isn’t as effective as it claims to be.
  • Fruit juice isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. When producers make juice, they remove the skin, which holds most of the nutrients and fiber. Basically, all you’re left with is sugar and added artificial flavors.
  • You might be surprised to find that “catching up on sleep” isn’t actually a good thing. Research shows that those who sleep in for hours on the weekend to make up for a loss of sleep from the week-end up staying up later on Sunday nights resulting in tiredness on Monday. It’s a reoccurring cycle. Instead, try to keep a constant sleeping pattern.
  • Just because something is labeled as low-fat, doesn’t mean it’s low calorie. Many low-fat foods actually have more carbs and grams of sugar to make up for the lack of taste. Instead, eat a healthy portion of the regular food item.
  • Ignoring your sweet tooth sounds like a good idea right? When you’re body craves something you need to give it what it wants. By eating a small piece of dark chocolate, you will get rid of your sweet tooth and even score some healthy antioxidants. If you get rid of all sweets, you may find yourself binge eating cake one night.

It’s so important to always make healthy choices! I hope this helped!

Love you all,

Chelsea

Eating healthy can be tough, especially when you’re not used to it!  The easiest way to ease yourself into a healthy diet is to make a few simple changes here and there.  By swapping out a few bad choices for good choices, you will start to notice yourself eating healthier and healthier day by day.

  1. Many people don’t realize how much sugar is in juice. Can you believe there are 24 grams of sugar in one cup of orange juice?! Instead of having your morning juice, have a fresh orange for breakfast. You will cut down on the sugar and gain some fiber!  Chelsea Crockett- sugar in juice
  2. Bagels are packed full of carbs and sugar and can be extremely filling. Try an English muffin instead of a bagel. This can even be used as bread for a sandwich!
  3. If you love chips and can’t give them up, then buy baked chips! Normal chips are fried in oil high in fat. Baked chips are more natural!
  4. Instead of ordering an appetizer at dinner, opt for a side salad instead. Try to order a clear dressing such as Italian, instead of a creamy dressing like Ranch.
  5. No more soda! Try sparkling water!
  6. If you love sweets, then try dark chocolate over milk chocolate. Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants which contributes to multiple health benefits!

Eating healthy isn’t hard; it just takes some will power and a good grocery list!

Love you all!

Tropical Summer Drinks

Imagine lying by the pool with a drink in your hand and the sound of ocean waves crashing against the rocks.  Sounds nice, huh?  Well just because you might not have a beach, doesn’t mean you can’t pretend you’re on one!  Try whipping up a few of these fruity concoctions to get your summer going, virgin of course.

Grenadine syrup, a red tinted sweetener, and plenty of flavored juices are essential for the perfect drink!  If you love Fruit Loops, then I’ve got the perfect drink for you!  Mix together 3 ounces of pineapple juice, 2 ounces of orange juice, and one ounce of cranberry juice.  Throw in ½ ounce of grenadine syrup to the mix.  Last, drop in a few cherries and some ice cubes and you’ve got yourself the perfect fruity drink!

If icy drinks are more your style, try a strawberry daiquiri-pina colada mix!  You’ll need to blend each drink separately for starters.  Begin by blending together 1 cup of pineapple chunks, ¼ cup ofChelsea Crockett- pina colada strawberry daiquiri ice, 1 cup of unsweetened pineapple juice, and 1 cup of coconut milk.  In a separate blender (or you can pour the colada mix into a separate cup and clean your blender) blend together 1 cup of strawberries, ¼ cup of ice, ¾ cup of lemon-lime soda, ¼ cup of sugar, and one tbsp. of lemon juice.  Once finished, swirl the drinks together for a twist on two classic recipes!

I hope you enjoy these drinks as much as I did.  While you’re enjoying them, close your eyes and imagine the beach!  Happy summer Insiders!

XOXO,

Chelsea
