Sunday afternoons after church are the ultimate lazy day, especially when it is cold and rainy or snowy. It is the end of the weekend, and after a long week at school all I want to do is take a nap! But, in order to get the most out of the week ahead, there are a few things you can do on your Sunday afternoon. I love feeling prepared for the upcoming week because it helps me know everything I have going on and makes me feel in control! Here are 5 things that are helpful to do on Sundays that will prepare you for a productive week and put your mind at ease.

  1. Set weekly goals: Do you have important tasks or goals for your week? Write them down so you can feel accomplished when you cross them off! They can be simple things like “do 2 loads of laundry” or even “write blog post for website” ;).
  2. Clean up: Starting your week off with clean sheets on your bed, a clean room, and a clean bathroom does wonders. Feeling clean and clutter free is an awesome feeling, and one of the best things ever is falling asleep in clean sheets. Hang up your clean clothes and put the dirty ones in a wad on the floor into the hamper!Screen-Shot-2015-02-23-at-3.22.02-PM
  3. Pack up: Get your backpack, purse, and lunch (if you bring your lunch) ready for the morning ahead. Monday mornings are usually rough, so having everything ready to go will get you off to a good start.
  4. Write your daily to-do’s: Because of my crazy work/school schedule, I need to write everything down that is going on so I don’t forget anything. Writing out my daily agenda for the week helps me visualize everything I have going on and plan accordingly.
  5. Outfit plan: Check the weather for the next day and lay out your outfit. If you are feeling adventurous, plan out the next few days as well!

What do YOU do on Sundays to get your week off to a smooth start? Comment below!

Carrying around resentment and anger is so unhealthy. It is hard to forgive someone who did you wrong, but forgiveness is a powerful thing. Forgiveness is accepting what happened, acknowledging your feelings, and then letting them go. Forgiveness isn’t just for the person who hurt you, it for yourself too. Here is how you know you are ready to forgive and how to do it when the time is right.

  1. Forgive yourself and let go: Give yourself time to release all of the emotions you are feeling and recognize when you are ready. Next, understand that it is ok to feel shame or embarrassment or shame because of what happened. Then forgive yourself. Realize we all make mistakes and that no one is perfect.338672
  2. Talk it out: It doesn’t have to be out loud. Talk through the whole thing in your head. And next time you see the person who hurt you, you don’t have to verbally say “I forgive you” because that may just be plain awkward. You can show them you have forgiven them by your actions instead. But then again, sometimes it is good to verbally talk things through. It may make you feel better if you are able to communicate your hurt to the person but at the same time let them know you have moved past it. It really depends on you and the situation!
  3. Know the boundaries: Forgiving the person doesn’t mean things are going back to the way they used to be. That may take time, or it may never happen. Setting boundaries like limiting the amount of time you spend with that person, or avoiding certain situations that you know could be trouble is wise. Avoid falling back into the cycle that caused the hurt and know how to avoid it.

Forgiving someone takes a lot of humility and it takes a strong person. It isn’t easy, but it is so worth it.

Relationship Red Flags

Relationships are fun. Having someone you can talk to and spend time with is always a great feeling. But, have you ever been in a relationship and felt a little uneasy about it? Like, you have a nagging feeling in the back of your mind that something is a little off or just isn’t right. Don’t ignore that feeling! It could be a sign that the relationship isn’t meant to be. Here are 5 red flags to look out for while dating.

  1. They don’t initiate hanging out: One of the worst feelings is when you have to initiate every time you guys hang out. He never asks if you want to do something, you always have to ask. Girls like to be pursued! You having to make every move is a sign that the relationship may be a little one-sided.5-relationship-red-flags-large
  2. They’re always “too busy” or “too tired”: We make time for the people we care about and want to see, and if they are always making excuses for why they can’t hang out, that’s a red flag!
  3. They never pay for anything: Splitting the bill at dinner is totally great, but sometimes it also feels great to be treated to dinner! If you are always splitting or even paying for your dates, things need to be re-evaluated.
  4. They take a day or two to respond to a text: We are all busy, and sometimes it takes me a few hours to respond to text messages, but there is a difference between being too busy to answer and taking forever just because you can. Texting games are no fun! If they can answer the text in a timely manner, they should.
  5. All they want to DO is text: This reminds me of me and my first “boyfriend.” All he wanted to do was text and never wanted to hang out! If you’re dating a guy and he is all talk (or text, for that matter) and no action, dump him. If he won’t hang out with you in person, just text you, that is more like a virtual boyfriend, and that’s not what you signed up for!

So, if you just started dating a guy, or if you have been dating them for a few months, watch out for these red flag warning signs. If your guy does these things, it might be time to show him to the door!

Why is saying “no” so hard? Human nature makes us want to please people. If we say “no” we are in danger of being mean, negative, or unhelpful! The last thing we want to do is make someone hurt or angry, so we say yes when we really want to say no. Agreeing to things you don’t want to do can stress you out or make you overwhelmed! To avoid being both, here are a few tips on how to say “no”.

  1. Start and end your statement with a positive: Before you come right out and say no, add in a positive statement. It helps take the focus off of the “no” and can cushion the blow. Starting and ending with a positive can sound like “I’d really love to do this, but I just can’t right now. Keep me in mind next time!”Say-No
  2. Don’t answer right away: Before you answer, let the person know you will get back to them. Take a minute to think about your response to the request. A lot of times we say yes because we are caught up in the moment and want to please them, but by taking a moment to think things through, you can figure out how to respond without offending them or committing to something you don’t want to do.
  3. Just say no: A simple no is a way to firmly get your point across. Don’t get caught up in trying not to disappoint someone. Be prepared can help you deliver your answer in a positive way that helps the receiver not feel offended or negative.

Next time someone approaches you and asks you to do something you aren’t too keen on, be confident, positive, and polite with your “no”! It will go a long way.

Growing up a Christian girl, I always heard that women should strive to be “Proverbs 31 women.” What is Proverbs 31? It outlines what a woman of God should strive to be. It is a pretty long verse packed with a lot of great advice, and it can be pretty intimidating! I am going to break the verse down to help explain it to both you and myself! We can work on being Proverbs 31 women together.

Proverbs 31:15: She rises also while it is still night and gives food to her household and portions to her maidens.

  • What it means to us: Get up early enough to spend time with God. This helps prepare yourself for the day ahead.Proverbs-31

Proverbs 31:16: She considers a field and buys it; From her earnings she plants a vineyard.

  • What this means to us: Spend your money wisely! Don’t waste it all on clothes and material things. Use it wisely and to further the Kingdom of God.

Proverbs 31:17: She girds herself with strength and makes her arms strong.

  • What this means to us: Keep yourself physically strong and healthy, but also spiritually healthy.

Proverbs 31:20: She extends her hand to the poor, and she stretches out her hands to the needy

  • What this means to us: Have a servant’s heart and give your time and money to others.

Proverbs 31:25: Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future.

  • What this means to us: Have a positive attitude and be optimistic about the future!

Proverbs 31:27: She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.

  • What this means to us: Keep your stuff clean! AKA your room, car etc. Don’t be lazy!

Proverbs 31:26:  She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

  • What this means to us: Don’t gossip, encourage others with your words!

Proverbs 31:13: She looks for wool and flax and works with her hands in delight.

  • What this means to us: Work hard without complaining.

Proverbs 31:22:  She makes coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple.

  • What this means to us: Take care of your appearance.

Proverbs 31:30: Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

  • What this means to us: Live in a way that honors God and take care of your heart and spiritual life!

Being a Proverbs 31 woman is a challenge, but is one I am willing to accept!

Lets face it. We all want to look beautiful every day (especially right when we wake up), but sometimes it is hard to find the time. I am always looking for ways to save time on my beauty routine so I can get an extra few minutes of shut eye in the morning. 😉 Here are tips that have helped me out over the years!

  1. Mix a little highlighter with your foundation: By doing this your skin will look fresh and glowing. Such a simple fix to tired download (4)looking skin!
  2. Shave with baby oil: Instead of reaching for shaving cream when you are shaving, grab some baby oil! It keeps your legs smoother for longer, and it helps your razor last longer, aka saving you time in the long run.
  3. Double time: Kill two birds with one stone by lining your eyes and curling your eyelashes at the same time. Just put eyeliner on the curler and boom bam.
  4. Tame your frizzies: Spray a little hairspray on a toothbrush, then use the brush to calm your flyaway hairs. Your hair will look neater and like you spent tons of time on your hair when you really did it in a jiff.

Hopefully these tips save you some time!

Bras are such an odd yet necessary item of clothing. Not only that, they are an expensive item of clothing! To keep your bras in the best shape possible and to keep them lasting a long time, keep these tips in mind!

  1. Don’t wear the same bra 2 days in a row: Bras need a 24 hour “rest” between uses to keep the elastic from stretching out. Just like you need a break, your bras do too!f_62a23a8078
  2. Wash your bra in a bag: Tossing your bras in the washer with all of your other clothes is a big no no! The hooks of your bra can snag on your other clothes, and tumbling around freely in the washer can damage their fabric! Wash them in a mesh garment bag and don’t put them in the dryer.
  3. Wash them once a month: No need to wash your bra after every use. Washing it once a month is totally fine. The less you wash it, the less “wear and tear” it will get.
  4. Store them in a flat drawer: When you are bra shopping at stores like Victoria’s Secret, they display most of their bras laying flat in drawers. This helps them keep their shape and will help them last longer.

Keep your bras in tip top shape with these teeny tips!

I’m usually not a “New Year’s Resolution” kind of girl. They can be kind of daunting, and when you fail at them it can make you feel down in the dumps. But, I have found a few resolutions that are more like “life goals”, if you do them you feel good about yourself, and if you don’t it doesn’t make any difference! Here are a few easy “resolutions” to take on in 2017.

  1. Stop trying to diet. Dieting is a waste of time. Drink more water and eat more fruits and veggies. Also exercise regularly! That’s all the “dieting” you need!
  2. Take a social media break. Staying off of it for a few days can help clear your mind and give you a new perspective on things. I did that when I came home from college and it was one of the best things for me.
  3. Be present with other people. This kind of goes with the one above. When you are out to dinner with friends or family, or if you are at a friend’s house hanging out, put your phone away and give them your attention.
  4. Give more compliments.new-year-resolutions
  5. Find a form of exercise you enjoy. If you like it, you are more likely to do it!
  6. Try things you’ve never done before. It could be food, exercise, movie genres, anything that you haven’t done before!
  7. Talk to older family members about their childhood. I love listening to my older family members talk about what it was like to grow up in the time period they did. You can learn so much from them, and they love sharing their memories with you!

Not all New Year’s resolutions have to be boring!

There are some beauty products that I absolutely HAVE to splurge on (Urban Decay eyeshadow, I am taking about you!). There are others that you can really save on, too. These are products that are the same quality whether they are bought at Walgreens or Sephora, and the “off brand” products are the same as the “name brand” products. If you are looking to save some money on cosmetics, here are some products  you should never splurge on.

  1. Eyeliner: If you use pencil eyeliner the formulas don’t change much from drug store brands to high-end brands, so if you are looking for pencil liner look no further than your neighborhood Walgreens!
  2. Mousse: If you use hair moose the cheaper brands are actually better! They are better on the budget and reportedly work better than mousse sold by the top brands in the business.Screen-Shot-2014-10-18-at-1.20.07-AM
  3. Lip balm: We have all been tempted to pay $15 for that good smelling, shimery lip balm from Sephora. But, as fast as you go through lip balm, you want to keep in mind how fast that price can add up! The base ingredients of lip balms, like the oils and waxes, don’t change based on price! The ingredients are the same.
  4. Brow products: If you want your brows to be on fleek, look no further than the drug store. They will have the same products as the cosmetic counter at Sephora but for half the price.

I love finding ways that I can save money, especially when it comes to makeup! Why not save on something that we use every day!

How to Shrink your Anxiety

Right now I am in a season of life that holds many unknowns. Things such as where I am going to college, what my major is going to be, where I will be in one year, and many more. These worries can sometimes get the best of me and cause me to feel anxiety. There are a few things that make my anxiety and worry feel smaller and more manageable. I hope they can do the same for you!

  1. Make lists: Break things down into small, manageable tasks. Instead of listing “apply to ___ college” say “download application to __.” Make the tasks smaller so that they don’t seem so daunting, and the more small tasks you have on your list the more you can cross off!anxiety
  2. Do some tidying up: When I have a dirty room it seriously stresses me out. Like, I feel like I don’t have my life together. It is distracting! If you are ever feeling overwhelmed, clean your room and put everything away where it needs to go. You will feel sorted out, accomplished, and ready to take on anything!
  3. Take a walk: Go outside and take your dog, or your mom or sister, for a walk. The exercise will clear your head and give you a break from stress.
  4. Cuddle with your dog: Or, in my case, dog(s). Their unconditional love is guaranteed to calm you down and warm your spirits.
  5. Be nice to yourself: Give yourself a break and don’t be too hard on yourself. Your emotions are valid, and you are not the only one going through a tough spot! You are strong. In fact, you’re pretty stinkin’ amazing.

These all help me calm down and de-stress. But you know what ALWAYS never fails to put my heart at peace? Putting in a prayer to the Big Man Upstairs. Pray to God to give you peace and comfort in your hard time, and ask for His guidance.

XOXO, Chels

Sleep: something that I always want more of but can never seem to get enough of. Sometimes I try and go to bed at a reasonable hour, but it takes me sooo long to fall asleep that it is no better than staying up late. Our generation has a tough time with sleep because of all of the distractions around us and because of our before-bed habits. We are supposed to get around 7-9 hours of sleep, but it is so hard to do! Here are 4 reasons why you may be having trouble getting some shut-eye.

1. You eat a big dinner before you go to bed.f95173345f29ad4e005b86268f260add72afe595e173f827c99baae58de838f5

I had a doctor tell me once that the reason I was having trouble falling asleep was because I was eating my meals too late at night and my body was working so hard to digest my food that it wouldn’t let me fall asleep. Big dinners with fatty foods take long to digest so they keep your body awake, so try and eat a larger lunch and a smaller, healthier dinner!

2. Caffination situation.

Yes, that soda you had at 9 pm was delicious, but it was also packed with caffine that will keep you buzzing for hours. Don’t drink caffine after 2 pm. This will give it time to metabolize and won’t stimulate you into the night.

3. One word: Netflix.

I know you want to catch up on the latest season of PLL, but one episode can become a 4 hour binge and before you know it the clock says it is 3 a.m. and you have to work at 8 a.m.! Yikes. Plus, all of that viewing can affect your body’s melatonin production, which helps your body create that sleepy feeling you get. Power down and let the sand man take over.

4. You HAVE to catch up on your social media.

You may think that browsing your insta one last time will help you calm down and settle in for the night, but that is actually not the case! Studies show that teens who unplug and stay away from social media before bed sleep better and longer!

Does any of this sound like you? I have to work on powering down my cell and turning off my Netflix earlier so that I can enjoy better sleep. What about you?

Don’t get me wrong, I love working out by myself. Long runs with just me and my music are what I live for. But, working out with friends has its perks too! Here are the benefits of working out with friends!

Accountability: When you are forced to schedule your workout ahead of time or don’t want to cancel on friends, it is a great way to stay accountable!0567

Motivation: When the going gets tough, your buds can provide that extra boost of energy! We all have those days when the last thing we want to do is work out, so having a friend to get you off your tush is always a bonus!

Learn more exercises: Your friends can teach you new moves and ways to work out! I love mixing up my work out routines.

Healthy competition: Everyone knows you work harder when you are competing against someone! 😉

How to Look Put-Together 24/7

We all know that one girl who looks like she’s got it together all the time. Her hair is always done, her outfit is always on point, and her makeup is perfectly applied. How DOES she do it?!  Come to find out, it really is not too hard! All you have to do is follow these tiny tips.

Hair: This is the most important layer of the cake! Even when everything else is a mess, if your hair it is done it can give the illusion that you aren’t truly a mess. Running short on time or motivation? Toss your hair into a stylish braid or simple bun. FullSizeRender (7)

Clothes: This one is not too hard! The main tip is to make sure you avoid clothes that do not fit, because ill-fitting clothes can make you look on the frumpy side. Pick pieces that flatter your body.

Makeup: Not feeling the whole “makeup” thing? Just simply fix your brows, add some tinted moisturizer, some mascara, and a little concealer and you are all set.

Accessories: If you want to maintain a “put together” look, always add in an accessory of some sort, even if it is simply a cute handbag or pretty necklace.

Now you can look put together 24/7!

Sometimes it can be hard to know when to replace your beauty products. You may be using the same mascara for a few months and think “Hmmmm, I wonder if it is time to put this tube to rest…”. Here is a quick and easy guide to your everyday beauty products, and when they need to be replaced and kicked to the curb.

  1. Makeup sponges: 1 monthimages (3)
  2. Mascara: 3 months
  3. Eyeliner: 6 months to a year
  4. Foundation: 1 year
  5. Lip stick: 1 year
  6. Nail polish- 1 year
  7. Powder makeup: 12-18 months
  8. Eyeshadow: 1-2 years
  9. Blush: 1-2 years
  10. Makeup brushes: 5 years

It is really important to replace your beauty products in these time frames because bacteria and germs can grow on your brushes and makeup and cause infection, which is no bueno! So take a peek at your makeup drawer and decide which items have met their match and can be put to rest in the good ole trash can.
