I love taking pictures and updating my Instagram feed.  It’s something that I find fun and entertaining!  Every time I post a picture, I like to make sure it has the best edit and quality it can have.  So, if you’re like me, here are 5 picture editing hacks to ensure you the best Instagram worthy pics! 🙂

  • Play around with the exposure. When it comes to taking pictures, lighting is everything.  Adjust the exposure and brightness of your photo to make sure you can clearly see the quality of the picture!
  • Try out VSCO. VSCO is a pro editing app that has all your photo editing needs! There are tons of different filters that edit your picture in a variety of ways so you can pick your favorite one! You can change anything on your picture from brightness to color.Chelsea Crockett - VSCO
  • Sharpen it up. The sharpening tool should become your new best friend!  It can make a picture go from blurry to sharp at the click of a button. I use this tool on almost all of my pictures!
  • Enhance the highlights and shadows. Although you may be more unfamiliar with these effects, you can increase or decrease the highlights and shadows in your pic to your liking!  These can even help sharpen up your picture by eliminating too much highlight or too many shadows.
  • Turn up the saturation. If you want some more pop of color in your photo, turn up the saturation!  I love bringing out the bright colors and making the picture more fun!

I don’t know about you, but I constantly hear about the benefits of drinking lots of water.  I was always skeptical if it had as many beauty benefits as all the supermodels and celebrities say it has.  After I did some research, I found out it really is all it’s cracked up to be!  Here are some water beauty benefits that truly are beneficial and some that are simply myths!

Chelsea Crockett - Water BenefitsYou always hear people with perfect skin say, “I started drinking a ton of water and my skin cleared up so quickly.”  Although water helps with the process of eliminating acne, it isn’t the only success factor.  When most people say this, they usually do things like cut out soda, eat healthier, etc.  So although drinking your daily amount of water helps, lifestyle changes are usually put into practice, as well.

That being said, it also has it’s skin benefits.  If you have dry skin, drinking more water will give your skin the moisture it needs.  Water is also known for flushing out toxics and bacteria in your body.  So, it will also help get rid of that nasty bacteria in your pores, too!  It not as much helps with the appearance of your skin, but with the health of it.  It’ll help pump up your skin and revitalize your pores!

So, now you know!  Everywhere you go, take a bottle of water with you. You’ll see the magic happen right before your eyes!

If you want a feel-good boost for your body, you can always do the basic “work out more” or “eat healthier” thing, but how many times do we actually carry through with it?  And how long do we actually keep it going when we do?  Here are a few lifestyle boosts that are easy to keep up with and will benefit both your body and mood!

  • Drink more water. Chelsea Crockett - Water I’ve always heard this and thought “yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever,” but it really pays off and makes your body feel all-around better!  Carry around a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go and you won’t even realize how much water you’re drinking throughout the day.
  • Make daily to-do lists.  Checking off tasks on a to-do list is scientifically proven to boost your mood.  It gives you a feeling of accomplishment and success even if it’s completing something super small!
  • Stick to a bedtime and wakeup time.  Once again, science proves that this will benefit both your mind and body greatly.  You’ll feel less tired and more motivated to take on the day!
  • Start your day with a cup of coffee and some time with God.  I know for me, starting the day out by talking to God refreshes me more than anything (and some caffeine doesn’t hurt either!).
  • Don’t use your phone an hour before bed.  Your phone screen gives off blue light that actually keeps your brain awake and alert.  So when you lay down and play on your phone to “make yourself tired,” it’s actually doing the opposite!

Growing up in church, I would frequently hear the pastor say to have a “clean heart” or to be “pure in heart.” I always wondered what it meant and why it was so important. I decided to do a little research to find out. Here is what I found.

Being pure in heart means that you have a heart that your heart is clean of sin, it has been purified by Jesus dying on the cross. Your sins have been forgiven and your slate is washed clean. It also means your thoughts are pure, they are not prideful, discontent, faviconimpatient, angry, or envious. You strive to do things that please God and your behaviors reflect how God would want you to act. Your intentions are pure, and you are not hateful or greedy. The only way to be pure of heart is to give your life to Jesus and ask him to cleanse you of your sins! God makes our hearts pure. Psalm 51:10 says “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”

It is so hard to be pure of heart. As humans, it is easy to give into greed, anger, selfishness, pride, discontent, and impatience. It is hard to keep our thoughts and actions pure. But you know what rocks? God forgives us for that! He cleanses us and makes us white as snow. He loves you no matter your mistakes and impurities. In order to be close to God, we need to strive to have a pure heart for Him.

We have all heard the saying that “It’s not what’s on the outside, but what’s on the inside that counts.” And although we hear that a lot, we don’t always…

We have all heard the saying that “It’s not what’s on the outside, but what’s on the inside that counts.” And although we hear that a lot, we don’t always believe it. Especially in this day and age, where looks are everything. I want to tell you something: no beauty shines brighter than that of a good heart.

Having a good heart isn’t a quality that everyone possesses. To me, having a good heart means you care about and for others, you are gracious, you are kind, and you have pure intentions. When someone has a good heart, you can tell almost immediately when you meet them. Their personality shows it! People with kind hearts are refreshing to be around. They make you want to be around them and they make you want to be like them. Also, when your heart and personality is beautiful, it automatically makes you look more beautiful! Your smile will tell others the beauty of your heart. Try and show others the beauty that is in your heart. Show them the love that Jesus has shown you. It’s a game changer!

Promises for the New Year

The new year is a blank slate. You have the chance to make different choices, new friends, life changes, and much more. This next year is full of new things….

The new year is a blank slate. You have the chance to make different choices, new friends, life changes, and much more. This next year is full of new things. 2018 is an open book! To help you navigate the new year, here are some promises that the Bible gives us that have stood the test of time.

  1. Galations 6:9- “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we wll reap a harvest if we do not give up.” This verse reminds me to keep perservering despite people doubting and knocking me down. Don’t get tired of doing good, even when you don’t see the benefits. Even when you don’t see them, they are there. Keep the faith.
  2. Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” When you are going through life’s storms, remember that you are not alone.
  3. Jeremiah 29:11 – “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” God has a plan for your life, and it is to give you a bright future. Thank goodness our futures aren’t in our own hands. All of the pressure is off of our shoulders. Our lives are being shaped by the creater of the universe.
  4. James 1:2-4 – “Count it joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” The trials of life are God testing and strengthening you. The tests mold you into the person you are and without struggles, we wouldn’t know the things we know. Trials bring wisdom, and so does patience.
  5. Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” When you feel like you are lacking the strength to go on, call on Jesus. He will give you the strength you need.
  6. Philippians 4:6-7 –“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Don’t let your worries get the best of you. Put your trust in God, leave your hopes and dreams in His hands. Give it to God in prayer. He knows everything, and He will give your heart peace.

Let’s make 2018 count!

Shopping vintage can give you some of the best hidden gems and forgotten styles out there! There are tons of styles that are making a comeback, along with different vintage things to add to your Christmas list.  Here are a few of my favorites to channel your old-school side!

One of my favorite throwback styles of shoes is Adidas’ Superstar sneakers. The original version was introduced in 1963 and is back in action!  The shoe is widely available and super affordable.  I love to throw them on with shorts, jeans, or even a cute T-shirt dress.  You can wear them with just about anything to create the perfect street-style look.

Chelsea Crockett - Calvin Klein CrewneckAnother fun vintage look is a Calvin Klein or Adidas crewneck sweatshirt. These slouchy, oversized sweatshirts are often color blocked for a retro fashionable style or solid with an apparent vintage logo.  This is a classic “90’s” look and can be paired with leggings and sneakers.  Check out the picture on the left for example!

Apart from clothing, Urban Outfitters supplies all your other vintage needs.  They sell old-school record players, records, and Polaroid cameras! These are the perfect addition to your Christmas list!  (The record player can even be a cute decoration for your room!)

5 Cheap Winter Date Ideas

Winter is the best season for fun, creative date nights.  There are so many different things you can do to get in the holiday spirit with your boyfriend or girlfriend……

Winter is the best season for fun, creative date nights.  There are so many different things you can do to get in the holiday spirit with your boyfriend or girlfriend… while saving money at the same time!  I came up with a few different date ideas that are inexpensive yet a good time for you and your crush!

  • Have a hot cocoa date. Go to your nearest grocery store and pick out different flavors of hot chocolate.  Make a variety of hot cocoa, make some cookies, and curl up on the couch!  Maybe even put on your favorite Christmas movie. 🙂
  • Do a surprise gift exchange at the mall. Set a budget and a time limit and have some fun!  Go back home and exchange your gifts with each other.  It’s not too expensive, but you still get to give and receive a gift!
  • Decorate your Christmas tree together. What’s a better way to get in the Christmas spirit than decking the halls!  Invite your boyfriend over, turn on some Christmas tunes, and set up some decorations!
  • Build a fort. Okay, this might sound super cheesy but it’s actually so fun… and not to mention, free!  Make some popcorn, pick out a movie, and chill out.  Why not channel your inner kid again?
  • Go on a horse drawn carriage ride. These are so fun and the perfect winter date!  If you live near a big city, bundle up and go for a ride.  It’s not too expensive and you get to enjoy the view of the city, too!

During this time of year, I always take a moment to think about the things I’m thankful for. I try to practice this often throughout the year, but the month of Thanksgiving really gets me thinking about all the things, especially people, God has put in my life!

When you think about Thanksgiving, what do you think of?  Do you think of all the food you get to eat?  Or maybe the Macy’s Day Parade you get to watch with your family?  More importantly, we should use this holiday to genuinely reflect on all that we’re thankful for.  And this year, why don’t we actually act on it? I have decided to challenge myself this month. I want to spend some time writing thank you notes to the people in my life that I’m grateful for. I want to challenge you to do the same thing!

It may be your parents, your grandparents, your teacher, your Pastor, or a special friend that you would like to thank! Join me this month and take a little extra time to write a note that tells someone just how much they mean to you.  You may think it’s cheesy, but it’ll mean more to them than you know!

I think this little Thanksgiving project will bless you just as much as it blesses the receiver of your letter! I certainly hope to bless those that I’m thankful for!

Prayer journaling is something that’s become a really big part of my spiritual life.  It’s something that brings me closer to God and has changed my perspective on prayer as a whole.  There are so many things about prayer journaling that I want to tell you about so you can dive into prayer in a whole new way, too!

Chelsea Crockett - Prayer JournalFirst, you’ll need an empty journal with lots of blank pages that are ready to be filled!  I like to start by writing a list of different things I want to start praying for.  Whether it be a friend that’s going through something or a hard test that’s coming up, I write it all down.  Put on paper everything that’s on your mind and everything that needs prayer.

Now comes the best part.  Find a quiet spot where you can be alone with God, just you and him. You can either pick one of those things you put on your list to journal about or just spill out your heart to God, about anything and everything.  These are like your own little love notes to God.  There’s no wrong way to write your out your needs and wants to him.  My favorite part about writing my prayers down is being able to look back at them and see how God has answered my requests.  Watch how he is faithful and see how he answers your prayers when you need him to!

First dates can be the most fun, yet most intimidating, encounters.  Sometimes the conversations flow perfectly and you hit it off right away.  But other times conversations become awkward and you run out of things to talk about!  Since I know from personal experience that those situations can be super awkward, here are five guaranteed non-awkward first date ideas!

  • Go see a movie. Okay, now I know this might be basic but still take it into consideration! It’s not going to be awkward because you’ll be watching a movie the whole time! There won’t be time for awkward pauses or dull conversation.
  • Go to a school sporting event. Whether you’re in high school or college, going to a game together is fun and gives you something to talk about. You can even get a big group of friends to go with you!
  • Go to the zoo. The zoo is always a chill date that’s fun and relaxing! Sometimes during the winter, zoos will do a holiday festival with Christmas lights and music. Keep an eye out for those seasonal events!
  • Go to a food festival. What’s better than dressing up cute and eating good food? Enjoy sampling tasty snacks and seasonal treats with your date!
  • Be a tourist in your own city. Spend the day exploring with your date.  Think of all the cool places in your town that you’ve never tried!  Make a list and go on an all-day adventure!

I’ve always heard both amazing and not-so-amazing things about yoga.  Some people swear by it while others don’t give it the time of day.  I’ve always wondered why some people use it as their main form of exercise so I decided to do a little research!  Here’s why you should check out yoga for yourself! 🙂

  • It increases your muscle strength.Chelsea Crockett - Yoga Believe it or not, yoga isn’t all about relaxing.  It actually takes a lot of strength and can challenge you more than you expect.  There are lots of different moves that require strength endurance and strong muscles!
  • It straightens your posture. I know for me I could use a little help on my posture!  Yoga helps align and strengthen your spine which, in turn, strengthens your posture.  I never even thought about that but it really does help!
  • It increases your ability to focus. Yoga takes a lot of focus on your breathing and movements.  One of yoga’s biggest purposes is to learn how to focus on the present and relax!  Studies have actually shown an increase in coordination, focus, memory, and other things, as well!
  • It helps the upkeep of your joints. Along with an increase in flexibility, yoga moves your body in ways it isn’t used to moving in.  It helps move your joints in several different motions which helps loosen and stretch them out and makes them even healthier!

Get out of bed and get your stretch on!  You won’t regret it!

Life can be stressful.  It can be full of setbacks and disappointments that are hard to overcome.  If you let these consume you, you can lose sight of God’s plan…

Life can be stressful.  It can be full of setbacks and disappointments that are hard to overcome.  If you let these consume you, you can lose sight of God’s plan for you and how much he loves and cares for you.  Here are three different ways you can find rest in God when life throws unexpected challenges at you!

  1. Find a quiet place to dive into the Word. One of the best ways to grow closer to God is by spending time with him and him alone.  When you give yourself time to read the truth about what God says, you can find rest in his promises!
  2. Pray continuously, not just when you feel like it. When I’m in constant communication with God, I automatically feel 10x closer to him.  When I’m simply thanking him for the things in my life, I feel at peace.  It puts into perspective how many blessings I have in my life whether I realize it or not!
  3. Play some good worship music. I don’t know about you, but music is one of the most calming things for me, especially worship music. I love listening to slow, calming music that puts me into a happy mood!  It might not work for you, but it’s worth a try!

How to Beat Bad Feelings

Every once in a while, we all have those days where we can’t get out of a slump.  Whether we’re tired, grumpy, overwhelmed, etc., it’s sometimes hard to snap out…

Every once in a while, we all have those days where we can’t get out of a slump.  Whether we’re tired, grumpy, overwhelmed, etc., it’s sometimes hard to snap out of the mood we’re in, no matter how hard we try.  Here are a few different ways you can beat the bad feelings that are bringing you down!

  • Feeling tired? Although you most likely just want to stay in bed, get up and get moving!  I suggest chugging some water and fueling your body with a snack that’s healthy and will give your body a boost.  If you absolutely need a nap, only allow yourself to sleep for 20-30 minutes for a quick recharge!
  • Feeling insecure? Instead of thinking negatively, write down a list of characteristics that you love about yourself.  Change your focus from popularity or appearance and think more about your personality and the people you surround yourself with that love you more than you know!
  • Feeling stressed out? Between school, homework, and a social life, this is an easy mindset to slip into.  Take a deep breath and prepare yourself for the work you have to do. It helps me when I break down all I have to do into smaller pieces. This way, your work will present itself more manageable and less overwhelming.

Ladies, have you ever heard people say that losing weight is hard, but keeping it off is half the battle? It is so true. Losing weight takes work, and once you’ve got those pounds off you feel amazing! But, life happens, you get busy (and maybe lazy) and the weight starts creeping back. This is especially true when the cold weather comes and all we want to do is be cozy in our jammies on the couch. Here are 5 tips on how to maintain a healthy weight.

  1. Even a few minutes of exercise makes all the difference: Even if you can only get 15 minutes of exercise in, it is better than nothing. I get it, life is busy! But if I can squeeze in a few minutes of exercise, like jumping jacks and sit-ups while I watch TV, I am still getting my heart rate up and my body moving.
  2. Follow through: If you plan to work out, actually do it! You will feel accomplished and proud of yourself.
  3. Mix things up: I can get stuck in the same exercise routine, and I find myself dreading working out because it is boring. To prevent this, mix up your exercise tactics! Do yoga one day, run the next, and maybe try some Zumba! Keeps things interesting.
  4. Think positive: When you think about working out, or about skipping a workout, focus on how great you will feel afterwards. You know that great tired feeling you get in your muscles and the endorphin high you feel? Focus on that. It will motivate you to get your booty to the gym or out on the trail!
  5. Work out, even when you’re sore: That doesn’t mean go out and run ten miles. It means take a nice walk or do some yoga to work the lactic acid out of your muscles and stretch you out. It will help your muscles recover!

Maintaining your ideal weight isn’t a walk in the park, and it takes work, but you can totally do it, and you will feel so good about yourself!

Keeping my closet neat and organized isn’t one of my best strengths… With lots of clothes and shoes, a girl can get a little overwhelmed with finding space for everything, especially when space is limited.  I discovered a few organizing hacks that I find really helpful when it comes to keeping my closet together!

  • Use soda tabs to hang two shirts at once. Chelsea Crockett - Closet RackYou can place a hanger through one hole of the soda tab and a hanger through the second hole.  This serves as a double hanger for your shirts leaving you more hanging room in your closet.
  • Use a hanging shoe organizer for multiple purposes. You can hang one of these on your closet door or somewhere else inside your closet.  Of course, you can use it to store your shoes, but you can also store things like underwear, socks, bras, shorts, swimsuits, etc. in it, as well!
  • Purchase a second closet rack like the picture on the right. These can act as another storage space and as a piece of décor for your room!  If you have limited closet space, hang your thicker sweaters, jackets, and coats on your second rack to free up some more space.
