Are you ready for you mind to be blown?! Mine totally is. I saw a tutorial on how to make lipstick out of crayons and I knew I just had to share it with all of you! Now you can make lipstick in every color imaginable with just TWO ingredients! Here’s how:

All you need is coconut oil, Crayola crayons, and some containers to put your homemade lipstick in. You can clean out old lipstickmakeup containers and use ‘em! Choose the color that you would like to use and then remove the wrappers from the crayons. Break the crayons into about 4 pieces. Put a glass jar in the center of a pot and add water to the pot. Don’t get any water in the jar! Add about a teaspoon of coconut oil to the jar and put it on the stove. Warm it up slowly. Once the coconut oil has melted all the way, add your crayon. Add 1 piece of crayon per teaspoon. You can even mix and match colors and create your own shade! If you add too much crayon the lipstick it will be a little dry, and if you don’t add enough it will be sheer and glossier.  Play around with it!

This recipe is totally safe, too. Most lipsticks are made with petroleum which comes from oil, and crayons are made for children and are non-toxic. No worries!

Now go have fun mixing and matching colors to create your very own lipstick!

Have any of you ever received a henna tattoo? They are created by putting a paste on your skin in a design, letting it sit, and then washing it off to find a temporary “tattoo” on your skin. When I was scrolling through Pinterest the other day, I stumbled across something very peculiar. A woman was applying green lipstick to her lips, and it was turning her lips red. Whaaaat?! This magical product, my friend, is called henna lipstick. Let me explain the magic to you.

Henna lipstick reacts to your body’s chemistry and turns a certain shade of red/pink depending on your body download-680x390temperature and your mood. The main ingredient, Red 27, is what reacts to your body’s pH and temperature to create a unique shade that is different for each wearer, and it stains the lips for hours. The color that the henna lipstick gives you is totally unique to you, which means it is literally your perfect color because your body is the one that chooses it! It is also super cool because you don’t leave red or pink lipstick marks all over everything and it doesn’t smudge because it goes on clear.

You can find this miracle product on eBay! I am so excited to try it out.

Bright Summer Lips!

Your smile is one of the first things someone notices about you.  Whether it’s your white teeth or your bright red lipstick, your mouth draws attention from the moment you first meet someone.  That being said, summer is a time for colorful outfits and bright lipsticks such as the ones below!

You may think that lips only look good in pinks and reds, but another trendy color is orange.  One of the best ways to pull this off would be throwing on a white dress and an orange chunky necklace.  Then, put on some orange lipstick to tie the look together.  I definitely suggest orange for those with lighter hair such as a light brown or dirty blonde.

Although pinks and reds are super traditional, they are still extremely popular and seem timeless!  Hot pink and neon red look good with almost any outfit.  Lucy Hale is a perfect example of someone who can pull off both the red and hot pink lips.  The shades look flawless with her dark hair and pale skin.  Taylor Swift is also one who is iconic for red lipstick.  It’s elegant and classy and goes well with neutral colors.  As you can see below, Lucy and Taylor know how to pull off bright pink and red lips!Chelsea Crockett - Taylor Swift and Lucy Hale

So… next time you get dressed up, don’t be afraid to make your look pop with some bright, summer lips!

Hello Insiders!

According to NYX professional makeup, wine-hued lips are one of falls hottest trends!  Taylor Swift made red lips come back to the forefront and now it looks like wine colored lips are in.  NYX makeup line offers many different finishes for your lips.

Soft matte lip cream comes in 14 different wine colored shades.  It’s not lipstick or lip gloss. Chelsea Crockett - NYX Matte Lipstick It’s a cream that is specially formatted for your lips.  It goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish.  It is extremely durable and moisturizing.  They also offer a matte lipstick that glides on smoothly and lasts with a matte finish.

Chelsea Crockett - NYX Jumbo Lip PencilNYX also offers a jumbo lip pencil.  It’s a lip liner and lipstick all in one.  It goes on really evenly.  It has a mineral oil formula so it won’t dry out your lips.  They offer twenty different nourishing wine colors.  It’s nice to outline and fill in with the same lip pencil!

Another fun option for your wine colored lips is NYX mood lip gloss.  Each color transforms into a different hue based on your mood!  How cool is that?  At first, the moisturizing formula appears as a clear, shiny gloss.  As time goes by, it develops into a rosy tint.  It is beautiful alone or over a lipstick.
So, Insiders, what are you waiting for? Get to your nearest NYX retailer and try out some of these fun looks!

Lots of love,

Chelsea

Orange lipstick can be a tricky lip color to wear.  It requires the right outfit, the right bronzer and the right blush.  To truly pull off an orange lip, follow my simple guide to get the perfect look!Chelsea Crockett- orange lipstick

When it comes to pulling off an orange lip, it’s all about the tan.  If you’re someone who tans easily, wait until you’ve been out in the sun a few times before trying this color.  If you tend to stay pretty pale, then try a shimmery bronzer!  Start by applying the bronzer to your cheek bones and outer part of your forehead.  (Remember: never apply bronzer all over your face!  This will make your makeup looked caked on and make you look darker than you should.)  Finish off your face with a light pink blush!

Two of my favorite shades of clothing to wear with orange lipstick are hot pink and nude.  If you want to stick to the neon trend, throw on a hot pink dress or top.  The contrast of colors will help each one stick out!  If you want to go a more subtle route, try a flesh colored top or dress to let your lips be the primary focus.

I hope all of you can try out this new makeup trend this summer!!

Love,

Chelsea

Best Lipstick For Your Skin Tone

So you are at the lipstick section at the store, and you are surrounded by 23847 different shades of lipstick (okay, maybe not THAT many), and you are thinking “how in the world so I know which one looks best on me?!”. The best way to determine which lipstick will look best for you is by seeing which one complements your skin tone.

 For my pale skinned ladies:

Nude shades are the best for people with pale skin. Think peachy lipsticks and nude colored glosses. If you are looking for a bold, glamorous look, try red lipstick!

Chelsea crockett Mac-Nude-Lipstick

 If you have dark skin:

You girls are lucky! Anything goes with darker complexions. Try orange or coral shades for a fun pop of color. Also, don’t forget to load up on the gloss to show off your full lips. Avoid milky or chalky colors with a lot of white in them because they will contrast with your skin tone too much.

 If you have olive-toned skin:

If you have olive-toned skin, such as Italian or Hispanic heritage, then the options are pretty open for you lovely ladies! For a super fab look, try coral lipstick! It is super hot right now. Some shades you should steer clear of are purple, which will accentuate the yellow undertones in your skin and give you a sallow look, and two, brown, which can look too monochromatic.Chelsea crockett coral lipstick

Now slather on some lipstick and knock ’em dead!

Colored Lipstick and Mascara: Weird or Trendsetting?

Hello Lovely Ladies,             Crazy makeup trends have been all over the magazines lately.  With celebrities like Lady Gaga all over social media, colorful makeup is sure to take off. …

Hello Lovely Ladies,

Crazy makeup trends have been all over the magazines lately.  With celebrities like Lady Gaga all over social media, colorful makeup is sure to take off.  So are makeup products like colored lipstick and mascara odd or in?  Let’s investigate!Chelsea Crockett- colored mascara

Many makeup products claim that their colored mascara will bring out the customers eye color.  Although this may be true with blue and green eyes, would you really want to have blue or green eyelashes?  It would also affect the type of eye shadow you would use and the clothes you wear.  These colored mascaras have the potential to clash easily.  I would say “no” to colored mascara.  Be natural!

Colored lipstick is different from colored mascara and a little more acceptable.  The obvious colors, like pink and red, are always classy and timeless.  They also add a little pop of color to any outfit!  So what about the other colors?  Most other colors I would say “no” to, but light purple and orange/coral are acceptable!  Purple is a mysterious color that can look really pretty paired with light colors.  Try going for a purple lipstick with a pink undertone.  Orange lipstick is great for summer and fall!  It looks great up against tan skin and is the perfect fall color.  Pair it with bright colors in the warm months and brown/tan in the chillier months.  Don’t completely say “no” to bold lipstick colors.

Sometimes it’s fun to go out on a limb with your makeup; but make sure you don’t take it too far.  Know your limits with makeup and what colors and shades are acceptable!

Love,

Chelsea

Valentine’s Day Makeup

Hello Ladies!

Valentine’s Day is one of those special days that it’s totally acceptable to dress up and go all out with your hair and makeup.  So what colors are acceptable for the most romantic day of the year?  Well, I’m here to fill you in on my favorite makeup look for Valentine’s Day.  Check it out!

Begin your look by applying your foundation as you normally would and don’t forget rosy cheeks.  Now it’s time to make your eyes look big and bright!  Try using a jumbo eye pencil, my favorite is light lavender by NYX, and fill in your entire lid.  This will act as a base for your eye shadow.  Next, add a shimmery white powder to the top of your lids and the inner corner of eachChelsea Crockett- lips eye.  This will make your eyes appear whiter!  One of my favorite things to do is to use my blush as a light pink eye shadow.  Using an eye shadow brush, apply the blush to the outer part of your eye lids and extending the color out.  Last, apply mascara and eye liner to finish your eyes.  I think a winged eye is perfect for Valentine’s Day!

Now for my favorite part…lips!  Depending on your outfit, go for a bold pink or red lip.  It’s the perfect day to put away your lip gloss and grab a tube of lip stick instead!  Now you’re ready for the perfect Valentine’s night!

XOXO,

Hey insiders!  Whether you’re trying a natural look or a colorful one, you’ll need a pop of color to fully complete it.  As for me, I am never specifically set on a certain shade.  If I’m going for a more subtle look, I’ll finish it off with a clear or light pink gloss.  If I’m feeling a little more adventurous, I use a red or hot pink color which is fun and will be sure to turn heads.

With summer here, one of my favorite glosses is the “Kiss of Cherry” fruity lip care by Nivea which I talked briefly about in my May Favorites 2013 video.  It has an SPF of 15 which comes in handy during a day outside or at the pool.  It also moisturizes your lips and gives them a smooth feel which is definitely a plus!Chelsea Crockett - Red Lips

Another shade that I can throw on with almost anything is a raspberry shade.  It’s a fun color that highlights those rosy cheeks.  It blends with any look and gives off a bright summer shimmer to your sun kissed skin!

Hope this helps you next time you’re looking for a pop of color to your daily makeup!
