5 Steps to Loving Yourself

We’re all at that crucial age of figuring out who we want to be, despite the pressure coming from friends, society, and many other factors that try to shape us into who they want us to be instead.  With all of the standards and expectations put on girls throughout social media, magazines, movies, etc., they make it hard to love the skin we’re in… But that’s exactly what we need to learn to do!  Here are 5 steps that will make you start loving yourself fully and wholeheartedly! Chelsea Crockett - Love Yourself Quote

  1. Avoid perfection.  Putting impossible standards on yourself will never make you happy!  You’ll be let down every time.  Don’t expect to be someone you can’t and shouldn’t be!
  2. Stay off of social media.  I don’t mean to delete all of your accounts and shut yourself out of them forever.  What I mean by this is to not log on just to compare yourself to every girl you see.  If you find yourself doing this, just log off and find something fun and positive to do.
  3. Look in the mirror and point out three things you love about yourself every day.  Positive reassurance is totally underrated.  It really works!  Give yourself three compliments each morning to continue finding things you love about yourself.
  4. Get the right mentality.  Having a negative attitude never helps in any situation.  Work on being happy and positive when it comes to your body.
  5. Acknowledge your achievements and treat yourself.  Sometimes we get down on ourselves for thinking that we’ve failed and just want to give up.  Acknowledge your success and focus on that!  Treat yourself so you feel rewarded and optimistic!

Hopefully you can soak in these tips and learn to appreciate yourself for who you are!

In John 15:12 the Bible tells us to “Love each other as I have loved you.” It is easy to love your family and friends (most of the time at least 😉 ) but it is not always easy to love those who have done you wrong. So, how do we love everyone, even those we dislike, like God loved us, and why should we?

Easy. Because God says so. I know that is the most “Bible” answer ever, but it is the truth. We should love johnothers like God loves us, because it shows that we are different. When people see how differently you treat others and how you love others, they will be curious as to what it is that makes you different. It is Jesus that makes you different! It is the fact that you know you should love people like God loves you. God loves you even though you have disappointed Him, even though you sin, even though you sometimes do or say things that are harmful or hurtful to others. This is how you should love others, in spite of their flaws and sins. Now, this doesn’t mean you have to be their BFF, it just means you need to treat them with respect and love, just as God treats you.

You will change people’s lives when you love them as God loves you. It is so different from how the world is used to being treated. Be different, and make a difference.

One of the most caring and thoughtful things you can do for your family is to pray for them. Whether you actually tell them you are or whether you keep it to yourself, praying for your family shows them that you deeply love them and that you care for them. It can bless you as well when you see your prayers for them being answered and when you see how God blesses their life because of your faithfulness! Your prayers can also help bring your family together and strengthen it. Here are 4 ways that you can pray for your family.

  1. For a pure heart and mind: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” – Proverbs 4:23. Pray that your family’s hearts and minds are guarded from the negative influences and sin in the world.FullSizeRender (37)
  2. For others to see God’s love through your family: “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16. Pray that your family’s example would point others toward God.
  3. For courage in the face of hardship: “Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6. Pray that your family will endure with courage through hard times. Be strong and courageous!
  4. For love: Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins. – 1 Peter 4:8. Pray that each member of the family has a genuine love for others.

Hopefully these verses help give you an idea of how to pray for your family! God has so many blessings in store for you and your family in the future!

When life throws a loop at you, it can be easy to question God.  Why does he take people we love away from us?  Why did I just lose my job?  Why are my friends being mean?  Situations like these can make God’s love feel almost invisible.  One must always remember that God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.  While it may seem hard to believe, God is always right next to you fighting these battles.  You are never alone and God’s love never fails.  When you start to question this, keep these in mind: Chelsea Crockett- Gods love

John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Romans 5:8 – “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  God loves us at our darkest.

1 John 3:1 – “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”

Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  He has a plan!

1 John 4:19 – “We love, because He first loved us.”

Mathew 6:34 – “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  God will take your worries for you.

God is good and his love endures forever!

Love makes us do silly things, am I right? We say things, do things, and even try things we never imagined we would! Here are 10 signs you are head over heels, goo goo gaga, crazy about a guy!

1.  You actually start paying attention to sports so that you can converse with him. You want to impress him and show you what a sports-savvy girl you are!

2. You let him have the last bite of your favorite dessert. And you did it with a smile on your face!

3. You keep it cool on social media. When you were younger and you got a boyfriend you gushed and bragged to all your friends, but now you know that relationships are between 2 people, not between 500 of your Facebook friends AND you. Yes, the occasional picture of you two together is to be expected, but you aren’t posting about him on the daily.

4. You start shopping for him more than you shop for yourself.

5. Every floor is a dance floor, even the Walmart isle! When you hear your favorite song you break out in dance together.falling-in-love-600x450

6. You show him you like him, even when he smells weird. What I mean is, after you guys work out or are outside doing things and you are both smelly and sweaty, you still give him a big ‘ole bear hug. Showing him that you like him even when he is a slippery sweaty mess means the world!

7. You aren’t afraid to ugly cry in front of him.

8. You spend 6 hours baking his favorite cupcakes (which is 6 hours you should have been doing homework) because you know he will be over the moon when he finds out you baked them just for him.

9. You do everything you can to impress his family, because you know that the way to your boy’s heart is by being nice to his momma.

10. You listen to and laugh at alllllll of his bad jokes. And then tell him that he is just the funniest guy on the planet!

Does any of this sound like you? If so, you’ve got it bad girlfriend!

It doesn’t matter what kind of body type you have, EVERYONE seems to have an opinion.  “She’s too fat.”  “She’s too skinny.”  “Does she even eat?”  Comments like these and social media in particular have driven girls to hate their bodies and take extreme measures.  Too many spend hours looking in the mirror pointing out what they don’t like rather than what they do.  Sometimes you can be your own worst enemy.  Does anyone else see the problem with this?!Chelsea Crockett- love bible verse

It’s time we take a stand and love ourselves for us!  We all need to embrace our imperfections.  I’m not perfect, you’re not perfect; and that’s a beautiful thing!!  We were all made perfect in God’s eyes and exactly how He wanted us to look.  Isn’t that amazing?!  Next time you see something you don’t like about your body, say two things you love about yourself.  It’s time to take a stand and love our bodies!  Say NO to body shaming!

Love you all,

Love makes the world go round. There’s love within your family, within your friends, and maybe even love within someone special! It’s one of the biggest things in my life, whether it’s how I treat someone or how I approach a situation. But… love is also one of the most controversial topics to exist!Chelsea Crockett - Corinthians 16

The Bible is the first place I look for advice, especially on this subject. Luckily, 1 Corinthians 13 has all I need to know. Here’s what verses 4-7 say: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

These verses rank up there with some of my favorite in the Bible. I think everyone can learn from them. Ask yourself, “Am I patient with those I love?” “Am I selfish with those I love?” I know I catch myself hundreds of times growing impatient with my parents or getting jealous of a friend, etc. That’s not how it should be! It’s hard to change, but with prayer it’s possible :).

The last verse of 1 Corinthians 13 says, “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Like I said, it makes the world go round!

February 14th, the day all the perfect couples and secret admirers look forward to. Maybe your boyfriend is planning a dinner date for the two of you. Or maybe you’re planning a girl’s night in with chick flicks and all your BFFs! Finding a V-day present for your crush or simply someone you love can be tricky! Here are a few suggestions.

  • For the food lover. Food is the key to almost anyone’s heart (mine especially!) and since chocolate is the biggest treat of the holiday, have some fun with it! One of my favorite ideas is chocolate covered pretzels. Dip some pretzel sticks into milk, white, and/or dark chocolate and decorate them with pink and red sprinkles! Another mouth-watering idea is chocolate covered strawberries. These are delicious and not entirely unhealthy :)!Chelsea Crockett - Personalized Guitar Picks
  • For the artistic. DIY or homemade presents are always a little more heartfelt then the average gift. If you have a creative side, why not show it to the one you love by thinking outside of the box? One idea I saw on Pinterest was personalized guitar picks. Maybe your crush is into music? This is just one of the many ideas that show you put some thought into his gift.
  • For the sport lover. If your boy is into sports, purchase some game tickets or his favorite team’s jersey. He’ll love that you put some interest into something he likes!
  • For the adventurous. Instead of getting him an actual gift or present, plan a fun day for the two of you. Maybe go to the zoo, hiking, or on a bike ride and end your night with dinner and a movie, your treat!

Good luck! – Chels

Have you ever thought about how precious and special you are to God?  Many of us spend time feeling like we are not what we need to be.  We often compare ourselves to other people and assume something is wrong with us.  There is, however, a way to stop that negative thinking.  It is positively and frequently thinking and saying “God loves me unconditionally.”  God loves us and views us as being accepted and blameless.  Knowing God loves us unconditionally is a necessity to make progress in our walk with Him.Chelsea Crockett - God's Unconditional Love

Our relationship with God should be based on love and acceptance, not fear.  The enemy wants us to be focused on what’s wrong with ourselves.  But knowing we are accepted and loved even in our imperfection is such a relief.  God’s unconditional love gives us confidence, boldness, and fearlessness.  When you go to bed at night, repeat to yourself “God loves me unconditionally and through faith I am made right in His eyes.”  Add some power to your life and meditate on God’s Word!

Blessings,

Chelsea

It may be cliché to say this, but life is full of many ups and downs. I lost count of the days that didn’t go as I had hoped or planned! In church, in school, and in everyday life, I’ve learned a few words that help me get through whatever I’m dealing with, without losing a positive attitude.

  1. Faith. I’ve learned in EVERY situation, that you have to have faith. Without putting my trust and hope in God, I can easily get discouraged. Sometimes so discouraged that I end up not even trying in the first place!Chelsea Crockett - Happiness
  2. Happiness. If you don’t strive towards happiness, how can you live a life you enjoy? I’ve learned that if something or someone isn’t making you happy, it’s best to get rid of whatever it is bringing you down.
  3. Forgiveness. Being a forgiving person not only helps you, but the person you’re forgiving, as well. Forgiving is a domino effect. Once you let go of something with your friend or someone in your family, it doesn’t go unnoticed. Compassion spreads, so why not pass it along yourself?
  4. Love. Love doesn’t only mean finding someone and falling head over heels for them. Love should be shown to anyone and everyone, whether you’re at school or at church. Next time you’re about to comment negatively about someone, show love and lift them up instead of tearing them down!
  5. Patience. Having patience is one of the greatest virtues in life. Things don’t always happen right when you want them to. Waiting patiently is something you’ll learn as you mature. The love of your life is out there, you just might not find them in high school!

Keep these words in mind and live a life filled with joy and happiness!

Hi Insiders,

Being a teenager can be tough.  Between school, hanging out with friends, sports, and work, there’s hardly any time to spend with your parents.  A quick “hi” and “bye” is the typical conversation these days.  As you all know, I really love my family.  If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now!  They’ve always been there for me and encouraged me to follow my dreams.  You may not always realize it, but your parents love you so much!  Here are a few ideas to show your parents you appreciate them as much as you do.Chelsea Crockett- family life

  • Always tell them you love them before you leave the house and before you go to sleep.  A simple “I love you” can go a long way.
  • Invite them to different school functions you’re attending.  Whether it be a football game or tennis match, it’ll show your parents that you enjoy being around them.
  • Talk to them!  Don’t be afraid to open up.  They are your support system.  This will create a stronger bond.
  • Write them a card.  Sometimes it’s hard to tell someone exactly how you feel face to face, so write out a nice letter to show your appreciation.  It doesn’t have to be a birthday or holiday for someone to receive a card!
  • Set aside at least  one night a week for a family dinner.  It’s a great way to sit down and spend time with your parents.

I encourage all of you to spend more time with your family.  They will always be there for you!  “Honor your father and mother.  Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12

Love,

Hey insiders,
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner!  It’s always fun to bake something creative for that special someone in your life.  It’s also fun to bake treats for others that you love like your grandparents, your friends, or even a teacher.  Below I’ve included three different goodies that would make anyone’s mouth water.
I always love to bake heart shaped cut out cookies.  A relative’s sugar cookie recipe is the always the best way to go.  My family and I like to use different shaped sizes of hearts and decorate them with pink, red, white, and purple icing.  We top them off with sugar sprinkles.
Another yummy idea is to bake a heart shaped cake!  You can purchase a heart shaped pan or two and bake a cake in them.  Chelsea Crockett - Rice CrispiesHave fun icing for decorating your cake.  This will show your “special someone” that you took the time to make something fun and creative.  And don’t forget delicious!
If baking is not your thing, you can always make some rice crispy treats on the stove top.  You can use a cookie cutter to cut heart shapes out of the treats. You can also use popsicle or lollipop sticks to slide into each snack.  Feel free to decorate the rice crispy treats with icing if you really LOVE sugar!  I hope these ideas will help you spread love this Valentine’s Day!

                                                                         Hugs and kisses,

Hey everyone!
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner!  So, it’s time to start thinking about how to celebrate.  You can show your love for that special someone or for your parents, grandparents, or friends.  One thing to think about is food!  When you think about it, most everything we do revolves around food.  Think about what your recipient would like most.  A box of candy, home baked cookies, Chinese take-out, a home cooked meal, or going to a favorite restaurant are among some of the ideas to choose from.
Next, you are going to need a special gift.  Gifts don’t always have to be bought.  Chelsea Crockett - CouponsGifts from the heart can often be simple.  You can write a letter to your loved one to tell them how much you really care and to thank them for bringing such joy to you.  Another fun idea is to make coupons for others.  You could write as many as you want.  Some examples would be:  A coupon for cooking dinner OR making the beds OR pizza and a movie night with your parents/grandparents.  Remember it’s the thought that goes into the gift that matters.
I hope some of these ideas help to make your Valentine’s Day extra special this year.  Remember it’s not necessarily a time to spend money on others, but a time to speak from the heart about what matters most…..those you love!

                                                                 XOXO,
                                                                       Chelsea
