Makeup brushes are one of the most-used items in our beauty arsenal. They help us put on our foundation, bronzer, blush, powder, and everything else you can imagine. Because they are used so much, they can start to gather bacteria and germs and need to be cleaned at least once a month. Here is how to make your own homemade brush cleaner to get those babies looking as good as new!

  1. Fill a small dish with olive oil and another with baby wash.
  2. Wet your brush, then pour a little olive oil and a little baby wash onto a saucer. Work the wet brush into the mixture, swishing it around and using your fingers to mix the oil and baby wash into the bristles.
  3. Rinse the brush under warm water thoroughly, gently squeezing the extra water out after you are finished rinsing.
  4. Lay out a paper towel and lay the brush on it, propping the brush handle up so that it is higher than the bristles. Allow the brush to air dry over night.

Do this sequence with all of your brushes to get them squeaky clean and to kill those pesky germs. Dirty brushes can cause pimples on your face from the bacteria on them, so cleaning your brushes is key to a clear complexion!

Creative Ways to Use Hair Conditioner

Hair conditioner is an everyday part of life.  You get in the shower, shampoo your hair, and then apply conditioner, right?  Conditioner is so important for silky smooth hair, but did you know it has a multitude of other benefits?  Surprisingly, there are multiple ways to use your conditioner not only for your hair, but for different beauty purposes as well!  Check out the new and unique ways to use your hair conditioner.

  • If you have a dry scalp, try a head massage with conditioner.  Get your hair wet with hot water (this can be done inside or outside of the shower), apply a generous amount of conditioner to your roots, and start massaging away!  Applying pressure will cause the natural oils in your hair to circulate and the conditioner to get deep down into your skin.  Goodbye dry scalp!
  • Fluff up your makeup brushes!  After washing your makeup brushes, rub in conditioner to the bristles and rinse out thoroughly.  This will make each brush much softer.
  • Defeat frizzy hair!  If your hair is frizzy on a particular day or it happens to be humid out, rub a small amount of conditioner into your hands as if it was lotion and pat down the frizzy parts of your hair.  The conditioner will help to tame pesky hair.
  • Use it as eye makeup remover!Chelsea Crockett- removing eye makeup
  • Add it to your next bubble bath!  Conditioner can act as a sort of moisturizing oil for the skin.  When you add the bubble bath to your next bath, add a small amount of conditioner as well.  This will make your skin extra soft.
  • Have you ever gotten a ring stuck on your finger?  With a dab of conditioner the ring will slide right off!
  • Conditioner can act as grease to unzip a jammed zipper.  Add a little to the zipper using a cotton swab and the zipper will come undone just like that!

Crazy how much conditioner can help you out in situations other than tangled hair!  Next time you need a quick beauty fix, see if conditioner can help you do the trick.  You may be surprised!

Keeping my room clean is a HUGE struggle.  I’ve got clothes everywhere, magazines scattered all over my bed, and makeup upon makeup all over my vanity.  So how do I fix this problem?  I’ve finally come up with multiple organization tips that have really helped me keep my room clean and will benefit you as well.  Let’s get started!

Clothes, clothes, and more clothes…how do you fit so many clothes in a small closet?!  I only hang up nicer clothes, like dresses, skirts, and nice shirts.  The rest, I fold and organize by type: pajamas, shorts, tees, tanks, etc.  This way, you can find what you’re looking for easily.  Just place in drawers and voilà!Chelsea Crockett- Organization Tips                If you’re a makeup guru like me, then you’ve got lots of brushes.  A cute way to store your brushes is to place them in a fish bowl.  Sounds weird, I know, but trust me!  Add fun colored sand, rocks, or seashells to the bottom of the fish bowl and then place the brushes upside down so they stand upright.  It’s a cute, stylish way to showcase your makeup brushes.  Just place them on your vanity and there you go!  Cubbies are probably the greatest organization tool around.  They come in all sorts of colors and hold just about anything.  I like to keep cubbies under my bed and place all of my magazines in them. That way, I can access my magazines quick and easy.  It looks good too!  You can find the perfect sized cubbies right here on Amazon:http://tiny.cc/Cubbies.  Last, jewelry racks can be purchased at Target and display your jewelry in a cute and classy way.  It makes everything easy to find and it’s sort of like a decoration for the room.  Apply these tips and your room will be nice and organized!

Ps- Don’t forget about your laundry. Wink

What You’re Doing Wrong to Your Skin: Part 2

Loving your skin is very important.  If you read my last article, “What You’re Doing Wrong to Your Skin”, you may have realized that there are a lot of harmful beauty regimes you may be using on your skin.  Your skin is so delicate, so to prevent these mishaps, check out these additional ways to save your skin from any harsh treatment!

  • Be careful when exfoliating!  Scrubs with thick jagged pieces can cause small tears on the surface of your skin.  Even using a wash cloth to exfoliate can cause damage.  Make sure to be gentle and wash in a circular motion.  If it feels like it’s working “too good”, then it’s probably doing some harm.
  • Wash your makeup brushes!  After countless makeup applications, your brushes are probably caked with makeup, and not to mention bacteria.  Bacteria from your eyes, mouth, and bathroom can build up on your brushes.  Invest in brush shampoo or a spray to keep them clean!Chelsea Crockett- makeup brushes
  • Do not rely on makeup wipes to clean your face.  Of course they are great for lazy nights or a makeup mishap, but they may leave irritants or chemicals on your skin since you are not rinsing with water.  Be sure to wash your face with soap and water!
  • Watch touching your hands to your face!  Your hands touch everything, which can create a buildup of dirt and oil.  Touching your face with unclean hands can create more oil, or worse, zits!

Paying attention to your skin is very important!  Treat it with care and it will pay you in return with a glowing complexion.

Love,

Chelsea
