Concealer comes in many shades and colors. The specific formula we will be discussing today is of the green variety. When I first saw green concealer I could not figure out what it was. Green? On your face? But, little did I know that green concealer is used to correct redness on your face because green and red are opposites on the color wheel. Here is how to use green concealer to your advantage!mufe-green-primer1

  1. A little goes a long way: The last thing you want to do is give yourself a green hue. Only apply the
concealer to the red spots where it is needed and then blend it well with your skin-tone concealer.
  2. Match it up: The intensity of the green you use depends on your skin tone. You will know it is the right shade when it seamlessly blends to your skin and hides any blemishes under it.
  3. Think it through: Think to yourself if you really need color correction. The main goal is to show as much of your natural skin as possible!

I went to Ulta and picked up some NYX brand green concealer and love it! I just use a little dab on any red spot on my face and blend it in with my skin-tone concealer, just like I said above! Try it out and see what you think.

How to Transition Your Makeup From Summer to Fall

Now is the time to take your makeup routine from soft and dewy to matte and rich. Summer makeup is all about soft tones, sheer coverage and natural vibes. Fall is about rich hues, smoky eyes and trendy tones. I’ll fill you in on how to transition your makeup routine from summer to fall! All it takes is a few minor switches.

  1. Start with the lips. During the summer I love wearing pink and coral colored lip shades. This fall opt for sheer, translucent stains of plum or burgundy. Last year’simages lip trend was opaque oxblood, but this year it is a little more subdued. There is also a trend of wearing unique lip shades such as navy, but I don’t know if I am ready to tackle that one!
  2. Next follow up with the eyes. Trade out neutral shadows with this year’s hottest eye trend: crimson. Create a smoky eye with crimson and russet tones.
  3. Figure out the finish. Summer makeup is dewy and makes your face glow, where as usual fall foundation has a matte finish. This year, avoid the “flat” look by using foundations and powders that allow your natural complexion to show through.
  4. Make your moisturizer count. In the summer you sweat a lot and the humidity keeps your skin moist. Cooler times call for different measures. Cold temps dry out your skin, so use creamy cleansers and moisturizers to make sure your face gets the moisture it needs! No one likes flaky skin on their face.

The transition from summer to fall makeup is completely painless! Easy peasy.

I have been aware of mineral makeup for a while, and I had heard it was so good for your skin, but I never really looked into it. But, recently a dermatologist told me that the reason I am having trouble getting rid of some of my pesky acne is because of the foundation I use! A lot of times drugstore foundations contain dyes and perfumes and can foster bacteria. Here is why you should make the switch to mineral makeup!4-in-1-pressed-mineral-makeup-porcelain-open

Mineral makeup is composed of inorganic minerals and is oil free so it doesn’t promote bacteria growth- Hooray! If you have acne prone skin then this is very important. It is also great for people with sensitive skin because it does not contain harsh perfumes or dyes like I mentioned above. Mineral makeup contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which are both natural sunscreens that provide sun protection against those harsh rays. Another cool aspect is that titanium dioxide has a high light refraction index, which means it reflects light, even higher than that of a diamond! This helps reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and even gives you a glow!

Mineral makeup also offers you great coverage, a natural finish, and a smooth appearance! Although it is a little more expensive than your traditional foundation and powder I think that it is worth it. Think of all the money you could save on acne medicines!

I love the look, feel and finish that mineral makeup gives me. I give it a perfect 10!

Red Lipstick: Do’s and Dont’s

Red lipstick is the ultimate fashion statement. Wanting to dress up an outfit? Put on some red lipstick. Feeling a little sassy? Put on some red lipstick. Need a confidence boost? Put on some red lipstick. Crimson lips are especially popular in the cold weather months that are coming up! Red lips are surprisingly versatile, but you also need to know how to properly apply it before you dive right in! Here are the dos and don’ts.

Do:fullsizerender-47

  • Some prep work: If you want your lipstick to last, then exfoliate and hydrate them.
  • Keep your eyes simple: You want your look to be balanced, so lean towards a classic look like a smoky or cat eye when you are wearing red lips.
  • Know your undertone: How do you choose your perfect shade of red? By knowing your skin undertone! Cool undertones look best with cool reds, and warm undertones look best with warm reds.

Don’t:

  • Skimp on lip liner: This step is too vital to skip! Liner helps define your lips and keeps your color from bleeding.
  • Be scared to layer: Layer your lip color and find new shades that you love! Instead of going out and buying a new lip color, layer colors you already have and see if they work for you!
  • Wear with bright colors: Just like we said earlier, you want to keep the rest of your makeup simple when you do red lips. Stay away from pinks, blues, greens, and other bold shades that will clash with your lips.

Now you are fully prepared to rock the socks off of red lipstick!

Beginner’s Guide to Eye Makeup

Are you new at the whole “makeup” thing? I know when I first started wearing makeup I had no clue what I was doing, and it was a little scary! It is hard to know where to even start! That is when I started watching YouTube videos to help show me how to do my makeup, and then once I learned I started making videos of my own. Eye makeup is my favorite because your eyes are what most people look at when they are talking to you and are the “windows to the soul.” Here are a few tips that helped me master the art of eye makeup:

Liner tips:fullsizerender-49

  • Use primer on your eyelids before you apply liner to avoid smudged liner
  • When you want your eyes to look bigger, use a white liner pencil on the inner rims of your eyes and the black liner on the outside.
  • Another tip on how to make your eyes look bigger is to use a softer pencil that smudges easily to make a more natural line.
  • Make sure to keep your liner as close to your lash line as possible so it blends seamlessly with them.

Mascara tips:

  • Apply mascara near the roots and the not the tips or your lashes to make your eyelashes look longer.
  • Make sure your eyelashes don’t clump together because they will look yucky, and to avoid this shake the brush horizontally to separate them while applying mascara.
  • For the bottom eye lash, you can use a tissue paper to prevent spoiling your makeup.

Eye shadow tips:

  •  Brush the base color (lightest color) on the eyes up to the brow bone first, then apply the lid color (the medium color) and lastly the highlighter (the darkest color).
  • Accentuate your eyes by using the same eye shadow as the color of your eye.

Hopefully these little tips will help you become a master at eye makeup! It is not too hard once you get the hang of it. J

How to Prep Your Lips for Lipstick

There are some days when the last thing I want to do is put on a full face of makeup, and then there are days when I straight up don’t have time to do it! On those days, I try to at least wear some sort of lip color to give my face some warmth and to make it look like I at least sort of tried to look put-together. But, in order to be able to really truly rock lip color, your lips need to be prepped for it. Here are two ways to prep your lips for lipstick so your lips don’t feel like they’re being sucked of moisture and also so their cracks and crevices aren’t showcased.stila-stay-all-day-liquid-lipstick

  1. Sugar scrub: If your lips are dry, use a sugar scrub to clear the dead skin off. It is more gentle than a salt scrub and is better for the delicate skin on your lips.
  2. Toothbrush method: Take a clean toothbrush and use it to scrub the dead skin from your lips. Not as sweet as the first option, but just as effective! The only difference? Most of us have a toothbrush on hand, but not all of us have a sugar scrub sitting around.

Both methods will give you a clean, smooth surface for your lipstick. Having lipstick stick to your dead skin and clump is always an awkward look, so this prevents that scenario all together! If you want a more polished pout, try one of these two methods before applying your lip color!

I have started to realize that as grow up, I have less and less time. Time just seems to run away and I never have enough of it! This includes time to get ready. Time is precious, so here are a few ways to make your “getting ready” routine faster to make you feel like you have more time to do things you need/want to do.

  1. Kick winged eyeliner to the curb: Ain’t nobody got time for that. Winged liner is awesome, but it is also time 80437916c20dab419c33116021812d9aconsuming. Applying it is an art, and if you mess it up you can be stuck trying to re-do it and make yourself feel stressed and late. Either find an easy way of doing it, or opt for a simpler eyeliner routine.
  2. Prep your food: Yes, this is part of getting ready! If you are in college and on time and money budgets, then prep your lunch the night before. This way you don’t have to worry about putting together snacks and your lunch in the morning when you are trying to get out the door.
  3. Prep your clothes: This is actually one of my favorite things in my “prep” routine. I love picking out my outfits and accessories the night before because it gives me something to look forward to in the morning! Plus, when I wake up I don’t have to worry about what looks good with what, because I will have already figured it out.
  4. Master the 5-minute makeup routine: Look up “5 minute makeup routine” on YouTube to find a routine that works for you! You will be mastering your own 5-minute routine in no time!

I think I will be rocking the whole “college” thing with these “getting ready quick” hacks!

Organizing your makeup stash can be fun, but also a bit overwhelming. Over the years, most of us accumulate a lot of beauty products. I get sent a lot of products to try, and keeping them all organized is quite the task. If you love makeup and beauty and have a pretty substantial collection, I have a few makeup organization tips to keep you from becoming overwhelmed. Here are my best organizational tips:

  1. Keep makeup brushes in drawers because they collect dust which can subsequently cause breakouts.download (1)
  2. Purchase a clear vanity organizer so that you can both store your makeup and keep it close so it is there when you need it. Also, makeup is pretty so this is a great way to both display and store it.
  3. Store eye and lip liners in a cup on your vanity so you won’t lose them somewhere in a drawer. Also, store them upside down so you can see the color stripe on the packaging so you can quickly determine what color they are.
  4. Go through your products regularly. If you aren’t using something, get rid of it! Also, check for expiration dates and throw away old stuff.
  5. Re-purpose household items to use on your vanity. Use old candle jars to hold things like lip glosses and eyeliners. It will save you money!
  6. If you need organization inspiration, look it up on YouTube! You will come away with so many ideas.
  7. If you have 2 of one product, put the duplicate in a travel bag so next time you go to travel you will already be one step ahead. This will also keep the duplicate product from cluttering up your drawer!

I love the feeling of being organized and having everything in a designated place, don’t you?

When you take into account how often you use makeup removing wipes, which is probably once or twice a day, and then take in to account how much they cost, you find that makeup removing wipes are uncomfortably expensive. They are so handy at night when I am taking off my makeup because they make sure I get all of the impurities off of my face before I go to bed. I found a way to make my own makeup remover pads for just pennies and I am excited to try them out! Here is how to make them:

Ingredients:DIY_makeup_remover_pads_coconut_oil_deep_facial_cleansing_routine_Biore_2

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 ½ tbsp. baby shampoo
  • 1/8 tsp oil of your choice (coconut oil, olive oil, baby oil, etc.)
  • Round cotton pads
  • Small jar with a lid

Mix the shampoo, water, and oil together in a cup. Pour a little bit of this mixture into the jar you will be storing the makeup pads in. Place the round cotton pads on top of the solution you just poured into the jar and press down on them to make sure they are getting wet. Repeat this step until the jar is full of damp makeup pads. If you have any of the liquid left over save it for when you need to make more makeup remover pads! Like I said before, these pads are super cheap and easy to make and will last you muuuuuch longer than the pricey ones you buy at the store.

Comment below if you want to hear about more money-saving beauty diy’s! Also, this DIY works best if you have normal to dry skin.

Let’s be real. Behind that 1 selfie you posted on Instagram there are 20+ pictures that were rejected and didn’t make the cut. You took selfie after selfie, switched angles and lighting, the works. I’ll be the first person to admit that a good selfie can give a little boost of confidence and spring in your step for the rest of the day. Here are some makeup products that are sure to get you selfie-ready.

  1. Highlighter: Use highlighter in a stick form to accentuate features like your brow and cheek bones and the bridge of your nose.3-Custom-clarifier-pencil-3
  2. Blush: Cream to powder blushes give you a natural glow and the perfect amount of color! They work better than powder blushes and can give your face a quick pick me up by using your fingertips to apply it to the apples of your cheeks.
  3. Eye clarifier: This is a nude/peachy eye pencil that gives you a bright-eyed look. It can also help hide the appearance of tired eyes or redness.
  4. Brow gel or brow pencil: Your eyebrows enhance your features and define them. Use a brow pencil or brow gel to shape those puppies to your liking.

Now say “cheese”, because you are selfie ready!

Makeup Tips for When You Are Crunched for Time

I hate feeling rushed. Whether I sleep in late and have to rush to get out the door or have a busy day and have to rush around in order to get everything done that I need to, I just really dislike being rushed. That goes for the “getting ready” process as well. When I don’t have time to get ready in the morning it makes me feel unprepared for my day and I feel “off” the rest of the day. This also goes for when I don’t have time to get ready for an event or outing because I got tied up doing something else. Here are 5 tips on how to get ready quickly when you are crunched for time.

  1. Use lipstick on everything: Meaning you can use it on places other than your lips such as your cheeks and eyelids. If you are running late or are in a bind, use a dab of lipstick on your cheeks and eyelids to add a pop of color.
  2. Forget foundation: When you are running late you have zero time to spend applying foundation. So, just dab concealer on your problem areas and then powder your T-zone.c8d0bdce6c9dbbf9c0e970f4515f47a7c6cf3ce22f933cb6a32eb4b7c4aeb79f
  3. Smudge your eyeliner: Take a Q-tip to smudge your eyeliner to accent your eyes in a pinch. Apply a dash of eyeliner and then smudge it.
  4. Use your fingers: You can use your fingers to apply almost any beauty product to your face. This saves time because instead of reaching for brushes (or forgetting to bring them with you if you are doing your makeup on the road), you can just swipe with your fingers.
  5. Go with a bold lip: When all else fails and you are completely out of time, a bold lip is just what you need. A red bold lip can make you look way more put together than you think! Plus it makes you FEEL more put together. 😉

So, next time you are running late but need to look like you’ve got it together, just use these simple makeup hacks to save the day!

A year or so ago I wrote a blog about color-changing lipstick. The actual lipstick is green, but when you put it on your lips it turns a shade of pink that depends on the pH of your skin. It is literally the shade of pink that your body thinks looks best on you! You will never believe what I found recently…green blush that does the same thing!

Now, this blush looks a little intimidating when you see it. It is wicked-witch-of-the-west green. Some people may think “there is NO way I am putting green blush on my face!” And to them I say, you are missing out! This blush changes color with the wearer’s skin, just like the lipstick I was talking about above. The blush is by “Lipstick 504606208_1_tabletopQueen” and is called “Frog Prince Cream Blush.” It has specific color-changing technology that interacts with the pH level of the person’s skin and turns it a natural shade of pink that is customized to each wearer. Just put it on like regular blush and boom, you’ve got your own pretty pink shade!

Can you imagine the looks on your friends’ faces when you pull this blush out of your makeup bag and sweep it on your cheeks? They will think it is the coolest thing ever when they see the results!

Makeup brushes are one of the most-used items in our beauty arsenal. They help us put on our foundation, bronzer, blush, powder, and everything else you can imagine. Because they are used so much, they can start to gather bacteria and germs and need to be cleaned at least once a month. Here is how to make your own homemade brush cleaner to get those babies looking as good as new!

  1. Fill a small dish with olive oil and another with baby wash.brush
  2. Wet your brush, pour a little olive oil and a little baby wash onto a saucer. Work the wet brush into the mixture, swishing it around and using your fingers to mix the oil and baby wash into the bristles.
  3. Rinse the brush under warm water thoroughly, gently squeezing the extra water out after you are finished rinsing.
  4. Lay out a paper towel and lay the brush on it, propping the brush handle up so that it is higher than the bristles. Allow the brush to air dry over night.

Do this sequence with all of your brushes to get them squeaky clean and rid of germs! Dirty brushes can cause pimples on your face from the bacteria on them, so cleaning your brushes is key to a clear complexion!

I just recently started dating someone new, and let me tell you, the most nerve racking thing in the world is meeting your dude’s parents. Honestly, your first meeting can make or break your relationship! If you don’t like them or they don’t like you (but seriously, who wouldn’t like you? You rock.), it can cause strain on the relationship and it ultimately won’t work out. But, odds are, they will love you. Confidence is key when going into your first time meeting his parents, so make sure you feel your absolute best. Here are some makeup tips to help you feel confident during the whole ordeal!

  1. Stick to what you know: Don’t try new makeup tutorials when getting ready, just stick to your everyday routine. Never tried purple eyeliner? Tonight is not the night to do so. Go with what you know, it will make you feel more “normal.”
  2. Accentuate your best features: Does your boyfriend ever say things like “your eyes are so beautiful” or “I love it when you wear your hair down”? Do what you can to accentuate those features! Draw attention to them. If you have long luscious eyelashes, make sure to wear mascara to highlight them!images (1)
  3. Keep it simple: Go for a more natural look. If your normal look is dark eyeshadow and liner, maybe tone it down to more browns or golds. Moms tend to like girls who keep makeup to a minimum because it shows that they are confident in who they are and don’t need to hide behind makeup. Simple is always safe. Use a splash of blush and mascara to spruce up your natural beauty!
  4. Brush your teeth: Bad breath is a big no-no! Make sure to brush and floss before you go, bad breath makes more of an impression than makeup, guaranteed!

And the big one…just be you! I will have an article soon on what to wear to meet the ‘rents, so stay tuned!

Good luck!

Makeup can be a blast to apply, but it can also be a daunting task. You know that one friend who always has her makeup on fleek? The one we all wish we could be? Well, here is how you can make your makeup look like it was put on by a pro. Take that!

  1. Know the tools of the trade: Knowing what brushes are used when and for what purpose is a very useful skill. Also, knowing what products work best for your skin takes your makeup skills to the next level. Knowing what formulas and shades work for what part of your face is key. Good makeup and good brushes make a world of a difference!635890893849991243-169451396_tumblr_inline_nppl00BIsL1twqeu5_1280
  2. Contouring and highlighting are your friend: No matter how difficult they may seem. Knowing how to do it is essential for any makeup guru, even if you only do it on special occasions or when you feel like it. It can seem like it would be tough to learn, but practice = perfect!
  3. Blend up: When applying blush or bronzer, blend the powders up and out towards your hair line. It helps lift and lighten your face!
  4. Prep your lips: Use an old toothbrush to get the dead skin off of your lips and then use a good lip balm to moisturize them before using lipstick. This helps it stay on longer and also keeps your lips from flaking.
  5. Know your concealer: Use one that completely matches your skin tone, not one that is lighter or darker, to avoid the “raccoon” effect.
  6. Finish with powder…always: This is one of the most important steps in makeup application! Use a setting or finishing powder after you are done with your makeup to “set” the look. It helps your makeup to last longer and look softer.

Makeup should be fun and should make you feel fabulous! Practice using the right brushes and the right formulas for your skin and you will look like Kim K errryday. (Just kidding, don’t strive to be Kim K)

Although summer is the most difficult season when it comes to keeping your makeup from melting off your face, no season is immune to the dangers of running makeup! Here are some makeup artist-tested ways to keep your eye makeup from running during the day.mascara

  1. Powder it up: After lining your upper lids, go over it with translucent powder using a fine liner brush. When it comes to lower lashes, use a seer pressed powder along your lash line before and after applying eyeliner.
  2. Moisturize wisely: Extra moisture on your face will make your makeup smudge, so keep the moisturizer low key around your eyes before applying makeup.
  3. Try waterproof: Use waterproof eyeshadows and pencils to keep your eyes smudge-free! It is the simplest solution.

Not even an emotional Adele music video will make your makeup smudge!
