If you’ve ever gone hunting for a good foundation, you’ve probably came across a few foundations that are known for their velvet feel and appearance!  Maybelline, NARS, and many other brands have created the perfect, velvet foundation that leaves your skin looking flawless.  Here’s all you need to know about velvet foundations and which products work best!

As far as Maybelline, their Dream Velvet Foundation ($10.99) is one of their softest foundations yet.  It has a perfect matte finish and hydrates your skin at the same time.  With this foundation, you won’t have to worry about lines or patches forming after applying it.  Chelsea Crockett - Velvet FoundationsNot only does it look soft and smooth, but feels just as good!  It’s fresh, light, and free from roughness.  They even made a specific brush called the Dream Blender ($5.99) that guarantees full, even coverage for the Dream Velvet Foundation.

What’s better than a velvet, matte, and sun-protecting foundation all in one?  NARS Cosmetics has a foundation called Velvet Matte Skin Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 30 that protects your skin and makes it look flawless!  It may be a little pricier than Maybelline’s product, but it’s only $45 which still isn’t too bad for a good quality foundation.

Are you going to try out one of these products or do you use one currently?  Let me know what you think of them in the comments below!

My favorite thing about finding new beauty tricks is all the different everyday tools and gadgets that can be used as a substitute when applying makeup!  I read an article that told me all about the different kitchen gadgets that can be a hack for putting on makeup, they sometimes even work better than real beauty tools.  Here are a few gadgets to expand your beauty tool collection! 🙂

  • A spoon.  Spoons provide several different tricks and hacks that can make applying your makeup much easier.  One of which is lining up the curve of the spoon to create the perfect winged eyeliner.  The second is putting the spoon under your bottom eyelashes to catch any excess mascara when applying it!
  • A fork.Chelsea Crockett - Fork Hack  I recently saw this hack and thought I’d give it a try.  It really does help when it comes to contouring!  Place the middle prong of the fork on the center of your nose.  Then, take your darker color you’re using to contour and fill in on each side of the prong.  This will set up the perfect lines to fill in and leave your nose with the perfect contour!
  • Dish soap.  Take a ¼ cup of dish soap, a ¼ cup of olive oil, and a spoonful of coconut oil, and mix it together.  This mixture will create the perfect makeup brush cleaner that will thoroughly clean any of your tools without wasting money on expensive, name-brand makeup cleaners!

Which kitchen gadget are you going to try out?  Let me know how it works for you!

The Makeup Guide to Brightening Your Face

I hate when I spend half an hour doing my makeup only to be disappointed with how it turns out.  Whenever this happens, it’s usually because my face looks too dark or too dull.  I found a guide on Pinterest that helps me take any dull look and transform it into a bright, glowing face of makeup!

  • Inner corners of eyeChelsea Crockett - Bright Makeups.  Making your eyes brighter is the key to making your entire face appear brighter.  Lightening around your eyes, especially around the inner corners, will not only make your eyes pop but make you look more radiant than before!
  • On top of cheekbones.  You have to make sure you lighten your cheekbones because they cover such a huge area of your face.  Use a light highlighter that will make your cheekbones pop but leave you with that natural look, as well.
  • On top of nose.  Since your nose is the most central part of your face, you can’t forget about brightening that area, too.  Take your highlighter and apply it lightly to the bridge and tip of your nose to give it a little pop!
  • Center of lips.  You may not have heard of this before, but adding a little white shimmer to the center of your lips can make them appear bigger and obviously brighter!  Try it out for yourself!

Try out these steps and let me know if your makeup look does a total 180 like mine does after following this guide! 🙂

3 Steps to Pulling Off Black Lipstick

Black lipstick is something that I never dared to try and pull off.  I always thought it was too risky and too dark for my personality!  But turns out, it’s a growing trend that I’ve seen anyone from celebrities to some of my closest friends start to try out.  If you’re easing into the black lipstick world, here are 3 steps to pull it off!

  1. First, you’ll need to focus on your eyes. Chelsea Crockett - Shay Mitchell If you try and wear black lipstick when your eye makeup is light, your lips will overpower your whole look.  Find an eyeshadow palette that doesn’t necessary have just black in it, but darker shades that will compliment dark lips, as well.  This is crucial!  Try a different blend of darker shades on your eyelids and lower lash line like Shay Mitchell did on the right.  She totally rocks this look!
  2. Next comes the contour.  Try out a darker contour that really defines your cheek bones and jawline.  Make sure you have a lighter highlight to add above the contour line as well.  This will create the illusion that your contour is darker than it is.  That being said, don’t forget to blend! 🙂
  3. Lastly, finish off some final touches such as eyebrows and obviously, lips!  The key to this look is making everything a little darker than usual.  Unfortunately, black lipstick doesn’t work too well with the natural look, so define and darken up those brows!

If you still don’t think you can pull it off, try out these three steps for yourself.  It’s a fun look to mix things up a bit every once in a while!

The Importance of SPF Makeup

Especially during the summer, we’re all used to hearing “make sure you wear sunscreen!” or “don’t forget to reapply!”  But half the time we just rub it off our shoulder or pay little attention to it!  But what about makeup that has SPF included in it?  Does that actually get the job done when it comes to protecting our skin?  Keep reading to find out!

Most sun damage comes from everyday sun exposure, not just those few days you spend at the pool.  Think about the times you take your dog for a walk, go outside for a run, or even step outside to get the mail.  Your skin is exposed to the sun’s rays whether you realize it or not and you need to be well prepared! You can go about this in either one of two ways.  You can find a foundation with a built-in SPF that works perfectly for you!  You might be thinking that it would be hard to find a product that works just as well as your regular foundation and protects your skin at the same time, but almost all of your favorite brands have products that offer the best of both worlds!Chelsea Crockett - SPF Makeup

As for the other way you can go about skin protection, simply get a moisturizer that has a built-in SPF.  This will both hydrate your skin and protect it when you’re in the sun.  This is a good option for those of you that don’t normally wear foundation or other face makeup regularly.  By doing this you’re still getting the SPF protection you need without using harmful sunscreen chemicals on your skin.

After getting a little more knowledge about SPF makeup, are you going to try it out?  Let me know what you think in the comments below!

The way you do your eyebrows can make or break your look. Some girl tweeze their poor brows until they are skinny as a pencil mark, either purposefully or unintentionally. Some girls wear theirs super bushy! Whatever way you wear them, eyebrows can transform your face. Here are a few brow-filling tips to make sure your eyebrows are on point.

  1. Brow powder vs. brow pencil: In order to fill your brows the best you can, use two shades of brow powder or pencil to structure your brows and give them definition.
  2. Make sure you’re using the right color: Don’t pick the shades that match your brow hair exactly. Instead use shades that are a tad lighter. You also want to keep your skin tone in mind. If you have darker skin you want to use a chocolatey color with some warmth. If you have lighter skin, go for a sandy, light brown combo.
  3. Use concealer to prep: Before you start filling in your brows, take concealer or subtle highlighter and blend it on top and underneath each brow. This gives your brow color something to stick to and defines your brows.
  4. Start under the arch of your brows: Use a small angled eyebrow brush to apply the darker shade of brow color to the underside of your brows on the arch. It frames your eyes! Just make sure you don’t make the arch too high, you don’t want to look angry!
  5. Finish things off: After you are done filling those brows to the best of your ability, use brow gel to hold everything in place. We wouldn’t want you to have Albert Einstein crazy brows at the end of the day!

Hopefully these tips help you shape your eyebrows like a pro!

Graduation Day Beauty Tips

When it comes to styling your graduation hair and makeup there are a few things you need to keep in mind: humidity, confidence, and the cap! The day is alllll about the cap. And that super stylish graduation gown ;). But mostly the cap. So, when you are styling your hair and makeup for the big day, you need to be aware of how the humidity will affect your handiwork and how best to accentuate that hat. Here are a few tips to help you along.

  1. Hair: When it comes to hair, you must work around the hat. Usually styling your hair down is your best bet for hat-wearing activities. And, like I said earlier, humidity needs to be kept in mind. You will be in a hot, stuffy auditorium or gym for quite a while waiting for your turn to walk across the stage and get your diploma, and in that time your hair can go from sleek and chic to frizzy. Before styling your hair, use a shine serum to help tame frizz. Then after styling run a lightweight dry oil through your locks to prevent flyaways.
  2. Makeup: Your grad cap will draw attention to your face, so be sure to use powder to prevent your skin from getting shiny and primer to prevent your makeup from running. Humidity can do not-so-great things to makeup. Also, accentuate your eyes! Use a dash of pearl shadow at the corners of your eyes to brighten them. Use a lip color that you are comfortable with, not something too crazy, and keep it simple. You want to be comfortable and confident in your graduation look! You will be taking tons of pictures and pictures last a lifetime, so you want to feel and look your best. 🙂

Good luck, grads!

Glitter is one of those things you either love or hate.  As long as it’s in moderation, I like adding a little shimmer to spice up my look.  If you’re a hardcore glitter lover, then I have a few hacks that will glitter-up almost any makeup look you’re trying out.  Here are five glitter hacks to satisfy your obsession!

  • Add a tiny amount of finely powdered glitter into your finishing spray.  Chelsea Crockett - Glitter LipsAfter your makeup is complete, apply this spray to make your whole face shine!
  • You can make your own body shimmer by mixing together body oil and loose shimmer pigment.  Then apply it wherever you want to make your body glow!
  • If you want to make your lips “glittered-out,” apply a coat of lip gloss to your lips.  Then, apply finely-sorted glitter to your lips with a Q-tip.  It will stick right to the gloss!
  • Use eyelash glue as a base for any glitter accents you want to add around your face.  If you’re going for that Coachella look, you can add glitter dots all around your eyes using this method!
  • Have you ever seen the glitter roots trend?  You can paint some glitter onto your part using a small eyeshadow brush.  Look at the pic above for example!  How unique is that? (Perfect for festival season!)

Which hack is your favorite?  Let me know in the comment section below!

Eye makeup is one of my favorite things to experiment with.  You can do so many different color combinations and looks!  Looking back at my old videos and pictures, I’ve definitely gotten better at knowing how to do my eye makeup the best way to compliment the rest of my makeup.  Here are some eye makeup do’s and don’ts that I wish I would’ve known when I first started wearing makeup!

  • DO blend your eye shadow. Chelsea Crockett - Eye Makeup This will make it look much more natural and a lot less choppy.  If you get the right brush, blending is super easy!
  • DON’T add too much highlighter to your face.  This is important especially if your eye makeup is dark.  You want to make sure your makeup is all balanced out!
  • DO copy a look that you like.  If you see a celeb’s makeup that you love, it’s much easier to create a look on yourself when you have something to go off of.
  • DON’T go crazy on the eyeliner.  There are so many other ways to make your eyes pop.  You don’t have to rely heavily on your eyeliner to do so!  The occasional cat-eye is always good, but find other ways that accent and darken your eyes.
  • DO find the colors that compliment you.  If you’re blonde haired and blue eyed, it might not be the best idea to go with dark colors like black and grey.  Use soft browns and natural colors to make your eyes pop but not be too overboard!

I hope these help you master your eye makeup skills!

Thank heavens for eyeshadow primer. I went out of town last weekend and forgot mine and was lost without it. Not only does primer make your shadow go on smooth and bright, it also helps it last all day long. As it turns out, eyeshadow primer doesn’t have to be used just on our eyes. It has multiple purposes that can work on other parts of our face!

  1. Under your eyes: Eyeshadow primer used under the eyes can help our concealer to stay on longer and prevents it from creasing.
  2. On your brows: Sometimes after a long day I will catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and will notice that my brow powder has smudged and my brows look “yikes.” Take a small amount of
primer and wipe it through your brows, let it dry, and then put on your brow product. You will have perfect brows all day!
  3. On pimples: Pimples never like to stay covered up by concealer and foundation. Dabbing a bit of eye primer on top of them before concealer and foundation can ensure these spots stay covered all day!

Who knew eyeshadow primer was so versatile?

Whether you were born with dark under eye circles or just get them after a late night, chances are you rely on an under-eye concealer to keep you looking bright-eyed. I’ve tried many concealers, some great and some not so great. I want a concealer that will make me look like I got a solid 8 hours of sleep and am wide awake – even when all I want to do is take a nap. You can get a great concealer from both the drug store and from pricey makeup stores! Here are a few of my favorite concealers.

  1. IT Cosmetics: I loved this concealer when I tried it. It is waterproof, anti-aging, covers dark circles and stays put all day! It does it all.
  2. Maybelline: This concealer used to be my go-to! I used it for a few years. Its spongey applicator helps pat on the perfect amount of concealer and the formula is light and hydrating but not cakey.
  3. No7: This is Target’s concealer brand that is similar to high-end concealers but is a fraction of the price. The formula uses light perfecting particles that brighten up your under eyes.

A good under-eye concealer is a game changer! What is your favorite concealer? Comment below!

When I first started out using makeup, I didn’t really have a clue what I was doing!  But over the years, I’d like to think I’ve gotten pretty comfortable with creating all the different beauty and makeup trends on my own skin.  Eyeshadow trends can sometimes be the hardest to pull off without knowing where to put each shade.  Chelsea Crockett - Eye MakeupThis guide helped me master eyeshadow and know the best way to accent my eyes!

  • Brow bone/Highlight.  As far as your brow bone goes, focus on highlighting it.  This will give your eyes the pop they need!
  • Crease.  To add some dimension to your eyes, add a darker shade to your crease.  Once again, this will make them pop!
  • Lid.  This is where your base color will go.  I suggest a neutral shade that will be a good foundation for your other darker tones!
  • Outer V.  If you’re a fan of the “cat eye” eyeliner look, then this part of your lid will practically be covered anyways.  But if you’re not big on eyeliner, then apply a darker shade to your outer v.  If you want a softer look, blend with a blending brush for a less sharp effect.
  • Lower Lash Line.  Once again, if you’re an eyeliner type of girl, then this part of your eye will most likely already be covered!  But if you want a little more definition, add a darker, neutral shadow to your lash line.
  • Tear duct.  To add a little glow to your eyes, apply a shimmery or light colored eyeshadow.  This will make your eyes sparkle!

I hope this helps you just as much as it helped me!

Drugstore makeup is one of the most wonderful things.  You can shop some of the best brands and products for an extremely low price!  High-end contour palettes can range anywhere from $50 to $100 and, if you’re thinking what I’m thinking, that’s pretty expensive, especially when you can buy a similar palette for $5-$20!  Here are 3 of my favorite drugstore palettes!

  • Covergirl’s TruBlend Contour Palette ($12).  Chelsea Crockett - Covergirl Contour PaletteAlthough this palette is super simple, it works so well!  This palette comes in three different shades, light, medium, and dark, so you can find the perfect one for your skin tone.  The color of each powder is extremely natural so they blend together for a smooth, professional look.
  • Rimmel Kate Sculpting Cosmetic Set ($6).  If you want a sharper contour as well as highlighter and blush, then this palette is for you!  It’s easy to take with you on-the-go and has the whole package for a flawless makeup look.  Did I mention it’s only six dollars?
  • E.L.F. Contour Palette ($6).  This palette gives you four shades instead of three!  Each color is a cream and powder formula so it applies beautifully onto the skin and blends just as well.  Once again, it’s only six bucks!

Have you tried any of these products yourself?  Let me know what you think below!
