Christmas is creeping up on us faster than we know it… and I’m so excited!  Around Christmas time, my friends and I always do secret Santa gift exchanges.  It can be hard coming up with different things to get each year, so I wanted to tell you about the idea I’ll be using for my upcoming gift exchanges!

For me, I can never have too much makeup.  Who doesn’t love trying out new brands and products?  For your kit, you’ll need at least three different products, depending on how much you want to spend.  Chelsea Crockett - Makeup KitYou’ll at least need a lipstick, some type of skin product, and an eye product.  Since most people already have a certain foundation they like to use, pick out a highlighter, blush, etc.  As for eyes, purchase a mascara or eye shadow to add to their kit.

Now that you know what to put in your DIY makeup kit, here are a few of my favorites that are inexpensive yet good quality!  For a lipstick, try Tarte’s Color Splash Hydrating Lipstick.  There are 24 different shades to choose from!  As for a highlighter, you can buy Urban Decay’s Mini Naked Illuminated Powder for only $12 from Sephora.  Since the other two products are a little pricy, add your favorite drugstore mascara to complete the kit!

Are you going to try out this idea this year?  Let me know what products you fill your kit with! 🙂

I’ll admit it, I’m a sucker for finding the best mascaras.  Whether I’m feeling a natural look for the day or want my lashes to look big and full, I always have to try a few mascaras before I fall in love with one.  Benefit’s “They’re Real” collection has a wide selection of products to give you the bold eyes you’re looking for!

  • They’re Real! Lengthening Mascara ($24). Chelsea Crockett - Benefit Products Drugstore mascara might be a lot cheaper but they’re not giving you the amazing quality this mascara does.  It lengthens, volumizes, and lifts your eyelashes to give you beautiful lashes all day long!
  • They’re Real! Gel Eyeliner Pen ($12).  If you like matte, waterproof products, then you’ll love this eyeliner pen!  It applies smoothly to your eyelid and is guaranteed to stay on for 24 hours.  It comes in 5 different colors so you can get creative with your makeup!
  • They’re Real! Tinted Primer ($12).  Primer makes a world of a difference.  This brown tinted primer will give you the base you need to apply the lengthening mascara I mentioned above.  These two products will give you your dream lashes!
  • They’re Real! Double the Lip ($20).  I’ve never seen a product like this that works so well!  The lipstick itself is shaped like a teardrop, with the tip being lip liner and the rest of it being lipstick.  So you get two products in one!

I hope you check out this collection!  I promise you, their products are some of the best out there!

How to Get Your Money’s Worth Out of Your Makeup

When I run out of my favorite tube of lipstick, a little part of me dies inside. Okay, that’s probably a little too dramatic, but I’m sure you can agree that it is a total bummer! Yes, you can just go to the store and get a new one, but sometimes that color or brand is no longer available. Also, why not try and use every last bit of yours? Here are a few ways to get the most out of your makeup and make it last a bit longer.

  1. Repair broken eyeshadow, blush, or face powder with a dab of rubbing alcohol. Do you have a tray of blush that you only used twice before you dropped it and cracked it? No worries. Crush the rest of it up, then add a few drops of rubbing alcohol to it and mix it together. Smooth it out so that it is spread out and even, and then let it dry! Good as new.7191624_orig
  2. Keep your powders from breaking altogether by placing a cotton pad in them while traveling or when they are in your bag.
  3. Reattach broken lipstick using heat. Have a parent help you, and use a lighter to heat the broken ends of your lipstick, then reattach them together.
  4. Let your mascara sit in a glass of warm water to loosen it up when it is getting dry and clumpy. If it really needs some thinning, add some drops of contact solution to it.
  5. Put on primer before doing your eyeshadow. This one is a wee bit different from the others, but it really does help your makeup go further because you don’t have to use as much to make it stand out!

Makeup is expensive, we all know that! Hopefully these tips help you get your money’s worth out of your favorite products.

XOXO, Chels

The list of brilliant beauty hacks I’ve found online is endless. The amount of crazy ideas and tricks with different products and utensils keeps getting bigger and bigger. Recently, I came across an article that had several beauty tricks using a spoon! What??? Since I was curious, I tried some of them out. To my surprise, they’re brilliant!

  • Ever have trouble getting your contour just right? Take a spoon and place it on your cheekbone. Then use your bronzer or contour kit to make the perfect line! (Don’t forget to blend!)
  • One of the most annoying things is applying mascara and getting it on your eyelid. Then you have to figure out how to get it off without messing up your lashes! Place a spoon on your eyelid to avoid this mistake. (This works for your bottom lashes, too!)Chelsea Crockett - Spoon Hack
  • As teenagers, we don’t get as much sleep as we should. I often wake up with bags under my eyes from not getting enough sleep the night before. Keep a spoon in your fridge to get it nice and cold and apply it to your dark circles in the morning. It’ll help reduce the puffiness!
  • If you’ve ever shattered blush, bronzer, or eye shadow, you know how frustrating it can be. Use a spoon to press the product back together! It may not solve all your problems, but it will press it back to its original state (as best as it can!).

Which hack is your go-to? I hope this was helpful!

Have you ever purchased a makeup, body, or hair product that you loved, but seemed to run out too fast? I know I have! Some makeup products come in tubes so tiny it’s hard to believe they exist! My love for makeup can get very expensive, so I try to get the most out of each product. By using these simple tips in your everyday routine, you’ll find yourself making fewer trips to the beauty department!Chelsea Crockett- beauty hacks

  • If you use a mineral powder, like Bare Minerals, use a penny to open the bottom to get any leftover powder. This could give you a few more days of use!
  • Once your mascara is done for, clean the mascara brush and use it as an eyebrow comber!
  • To make bronzer or blush a little darker, apply it to freshly moisturized skin. This will save you from putting 2-3 coats on.
  • If your favorite lipstick is almost out, use a Q-Tip to apply every last amount.
  • You can fix a broken compact by adding a few drops of rubbing alcohol to the powder and patting it down.
  • If you don’t like the conditioner you’ve been using for your hair, don’t throw it away! Use it as shaving cream for smooth legs!
  • When I’m about to leave the house I usually just spray perfume all over my clothes and head out. Perfume can get buried in the fabric of your clothes, wasting those 5 pumps of perfume you sprayed. Instead, try placing perfume behind your ears, at the base of your throat, and/or behind the knees!
  • Prolong your razor by soaking it in baby oil after each use! This will keep soap and other minerals from dulling the blade!

Hope these beauty hacks come in handy!

It’s crazy how makeup can make a person look so different! While we want to look young and bright, sometimes makeup can make us look dull or even older (not in a good way). So how can we stop this from happening? Keep on reading to see if you’re applying makeup incorrectly!Chelsea Crockett- exfoliate

  • Don’t pass up primer! Primer minimizes your pores and keeps makeup on longer! You won’t have to worry about weird lines or big pores, especially around your nose.
  • Make sure you’re using the correct foundation. Don’t pack on too much powder or liquid foundation and make sure you are using the correct shade.
  • Don’t dye your hair all one color. If you go to a stylist, ask him/her to add warmth or another tone into your hair! It’ll help make your face glow!
  • Not exfoliating regularly will lead to a buildup of dirt and dry skin. By exfoliating, you’ll be giving your face completely new skin!
  • Wear SPF every day! While you may not notice how it’s changing your skin now, you will when you’re older!

Let’s feel youthful forever!

Whether it’s with your college roommate or at a sleepover, it’s easy to get beauty products mixed up or forget to bring your own. Sharing anything from makeup to facewash doesn’t sound like a big deal, right? Wrong! Using other’s beauty products spreads bacteria and can even lead to infection! Check out which products should be avoided!Chelsea Crockett- sharing mascara

  • Eye makeup and mascara are the very worst to share with friends. Since your eye is watery, it is a trap for bacteria. Avoid an eye infection by keeping your eye makeup to yourself!
  • Admit it; most of us are guilty of not cleaning our makeup brushes. Brushes can hold on to bacteria and dirt, which can make yours or a friends face breakout!
  • Cold sores, sore throats, and other sicknesses can be transferred through lip gloss and lipstick! Keep those to yourself!
  • Facial cleansing brushes are a no-go when it comes to sharing. This can lead to a skin infection, especially if you have any type of rash or acne prone area! Anything that touches open sores shouldn’t be shared!
  • Razors are never meant to be shared…I mean, do I even need to go into detail on this one?

If reading this doesn’t make you want to keep your beauty products to yourself, then I don’t know what does! Let’s practice safe beauty!

XOXO,

Products are a girl’s best friend.  Whether its perfume to make us smell good, hairspray to keep our hair in check, sunscreen to protect our skin, or foundation to cover those pesky pimples, products keep us feeling and looking beautiful; but did you know that overusing products happens too often?  Most girls don’t know the proper amount of what they’re using.  I’ll break it down into an easy guide of how much to use for each of my favorite beauty essentials.Chelsea Crockett- quarter size of conditioner

  • Overdoing it on conditioner is easy, especially if your hair is really tangled; but using too much can cause your hair to be greasy! Next time, try using an amount the size of a quarter!
  • Spraying your hair too close can leave it looking stiff or clumped together. Spray your hairspray approx. 4-6 inches from your hair.
  • Never have your flat iron or curling iron above 350 degrees! No one wants burnt hair!
  • Sunscreen can be oily and clog pores. Don’t use more than the size of a nickel to cover your face.
  • Using too much liquid foundation can make you look “fake” or “cakey”. You only need about the size of a dime to cover your entire face. You’re pretty just the way you are!
  • If you use a foam styling product to make your hair curly or to give it volume, use an amount the size of an egg!
  • Never swipe your mascara more than 10 times or it’ll look clumped!

Using the proper amount of product is key to getting the most use out of your beauty essentials!

XOXO,

Chelsea

Our skin and overall complexion changes drastically from winter to summer. From pale to tan, no freckles to a face full of freckles, and a bad complexion to a good complexion…this change calls for a full “makeup makeover”! So how exactly do you go about switching over your makeup? What do you keep and what do you set aside for a few months? I’ve got you covered!Chelsea Crockett- bright lipstick

In the winter it’s all about faking the tan with bronzer and rocking a dark or nude lip. This is not the case for the summer! Since your skin will already be tan, ditch the foundation (except for covering up blemishes) and bronzer and stick with an icy pink blush. It’s great to contrast the dark and light colors. Don’t try to make yourself tanner by adding bronzer to your already bronzed face. It’s also time to swap your maroon lipstick for hot pinks and orange! These colors will make you look tanner and can actually act as an accessory to a plain colored dress or outfit. It’s also important to realize that less IS more! Ditch the dark eyeshadow and heavy eyeliner and go all-natural! All you really need is a good icy blush, mascara, and some fun lipstick to give yourself the perfect summer makeover. HAPPY SUMMER INSIDERS!

XOXO,

Chelsea

How to Touch Up With What’s In Your Purse

After a long day of school, work, or running errands, it’s easy for our makeup to fade and look a little messy.  If you have something important to be at after a long day, a quick touch-up is just what you need!  So what do you do if you don’t have your makeup bag on you?  No problem!  Here’s your 101 guide to touching up your makeup with what’s in your purse.Chelsea Crockett- mascara under eye

Getting rid of excess oil built up throughout the day is the first thing you must do in order to touch up correctly.  Blotting paper works best for this, but you can use a tissue instead.  Pat the tissue throughout your T-zone until you feel your skin becoming dryer.  Next, remove mascara and/or eyeliner that has gotten under your eye.  It’s easy for mascara to rub off on your under eyes from constant blinking.  Use the tissue again to wipe this off.  If you’ve got concealer on you, then touch up under your eyes and any blemishes you wish to cover up.  If not, turn the attention elsewhere.  Throw on a bright colored lip gloss or lipstick to make your lips the focus on your face…not that pesky zit!

All of this can be done in less than 5 minutes and is a quick way to refresh your makeup…without your makeup bag!

XOXO,

Chelsea

The Truth about Sleeping in Makeup

High school’s full of several nights of coming home late from a friend’s house and falling asleep as soon as you make it to your bed. Other times, long hours of homework may keep you up a little past your bedtime, causing you to fall asleep with a book under your head… and without washing your face! Either situation sound familiar? Sleeping with your makeup on is a major “don’t.” Here are a few reasons why:

  • Foundation can clog pores and produce bacterial infections. It can also be one of the main causes of acne and breakouts.Chelsea Crockett - Aging Skin Something in your skin called collagen keeps your skin firm and looking good. Skipping a wash leads to the breakdown of collagen, which makes your skin age faster.
  • Have your ever left your mascara on and woken up with unbelievable irritation in your eyes? Leaving on mascara or eyeliner can cause your eyes to hurt from little bits of the makeup falling into them. (P.S. Your mascara will slowly fall off pulling your eyelashes with it!)
  • Believe it or not, eye shadow plays a big part in clogging oil glands. If you let it build up too long it can create sties in your eyes! Ouch!
  • Leaving foundation or concealer or your skin overnight causes it to become sensitive and dry. I cannot overemphasize how bad it is for your pores!
  • Like I said before, your skin also ages faster. Not only does your skin eventually dry out, but, over time, wrinkles will start to be enhanced. No one wants that!

So next time you come in late from a football game or a long night studying at a friend’s house, take a quick 5 minutes to wash your face (or even keep some makeup wipes by the side of your bed!). Every night matters :)!

Finding the perfect mascara can be tricky. Some barely coat your lashes, while other make them look clumpy.  Finding the right balance is the trick!  So how can you get perfectly plump lashes without trying multiple mascaras?  Baby powder!  Sounds crazy, I know, but in a few simple steps you’ll have longer, fuller lashes.Chelsea Crockett- baby powder eyelashes

Start by applying your normal mascara once or twice on your upper and lower lashes as a base. While the mascara is still wet, place a small amount of baby powder on a Q-Tip and coat your lashes with it from base to tip.  At this point, your lashes should look white, not black.  Lastly, apply a final coat of mascara.  The mascara will attach to the baby powder for added length and volume.

I love how easy it is make your lashes longer and fuller without the hassle of trying hundreds of mascaras! Chances are, you’ve got baby powder hiding in a drawer in your house already!

Hey cuties!  Being at a young age, it’s a good thing to show off your natural beauty.  Trying to find a look that highlights your natural features is quick and easy to do.  Before applying any makeup, know that you want to keep it light, light, light.  Your goal is to show your natural self and you can’t do that by caking on makeup to cover it up!

Chelsea Crockett - Natural MakeupThe first step to almost any tutorial is to apply moisturizer and you’re ready to go.  An easy start to this look is to apply an airfoam foundation which will blend perfectly with your skin and keep it extra light.  After, cover up any imperfections with concealer to keep your face looking clean and beautiful.  Place more concealer under and in the inner corners of your eyes to eliminate any dark circles and to brighten up your face as well.  As far as your face goes, finish it off with a light pink blush on the apples of your now rosy cheeks.  And for eyes, that’s easy.  Keep it simple by dabbing a nude colored eye shadow to your eyelids and just a little mascara on your upper and lower lashes.

That should do it!  Everyone has their own natural beauty so it’s time to show off yours!

Putting on makeup seems easy, right?  Just throw on your favorite products and you’re good to go for the day.  Surprisingly, when it comes to makeup, there are a few “don’ts” that most girls aren’t aware of.

  1. DON’T curl your eyelashes after Chelsea Crockett - Applying Makeupyou apply mascara.  I sometimes get asked when to curl eyelashes, before or after you apply mascara?  Before, before, before!  If you wait till after, your lashes will get clumped and messy!  Curling them before allows you to solidify them by adding your mascara after. This leaves them looking just right!
  2. DON’T use eyeliner on your waterline.  If you do this, you probably noticed your eyeliner doesn’t last long.  It removes almost immediately.  Make sure you put it directly on the lid so it stays and leaves you with the look you wanted all along!
  3. DON’T sleep with makeup on.  Be sure to wash off all makeup before you catch some Z’s.  Your skin absolutely hates sticky makeup residue!
  4. DON’T forget to apply eye shadow first.  You don’t want to get caught trying to put your eye shadow on while trying not to smear your eyeliner and mascara!  By doing this, you can also see a better picture of how you want your eye shadow to look and how you want your colors to blend.
  5. DON’T over-do it when it comes to foundation and blush.  Try your hardest to evenly distribute your foundation on your face.  You want to avoid caking on your makeup.  This overlooks the natural and subtle look you’re aiming for.

We have already discussed the minimalist jewelry trend, so might as well hit minimalist makeup as well! Minimalist makeup is pretty much defined by the “natural” look. Like the minimalist jewelry trend, less is more. Here are three must-have products to pull off the minimalist makeup trend:NaturalBronzer_TEASER_0

  1. Mascara: a little mascara goes a long way! Mascara enhances your natural features, so it is the definition of all
    natural makeup.
  2. Lip color: even if it is just a little bit of color, it still adds a little something something to your look!
  3. Bronzer: bronzer adds definition to your face, and also helps to contour your cheeks. When you are wearing less makeup, you want to define your features.
  4. BB Cream: This stuff is a lot lighter than foundation, so it is more natural looking and feeling!

Want to try for a more natural look? Try the minimalist makeup trend!
