  1. Easy ombre: This look is so fun and unique! It combines all of the Valentine’s colors in one style: red, hot pink, and light pink.

  3. Sweet and subtle: If you go for the more understated look, just paint a simple coat of glitter polish over your nails! It will give you a nice subtle sparkle, and is a totally simple way to add a little extra to your V-Day ensemble.

Have a fun Valentine’s Day, my pretties!

Argan oil is one of my favorite things to look for when buying skin and hair products.  It’s the perfect ingredient for making all parts of your body smooth, hydrated, and restored.  There are a few products that especially make good use of Argan oil that will guarantee to get the job done!

  • Argan Oil Hair Masks.  Like I keep mentioning, argan oil does wonders for your hair.  Invite some of your friends over for a spa night and give your hair a boost!
  • Healthy Sexy Hair Weightless Hairspray.  This hairspray not only works to keep your hair in place but nourishes and hydrates it, as well!

Along with a stylish outfit and killer makeup, you’ll need some festive nails to complete your Valentine’s Day look!  Instead of getting your nails done for your special night, I found three different designs you can try out for yourself.  I think they’re fairly simply to do even if nails aren’t your thing!

  • If you like going all out, then the design on the right is for you! Chelsea Crockett - Love Nails I stumbled upon it on Pinterest and love it.  If you have a steady enough hand to attempt it, give it a try!  You might even be able to find nail stickers if you’re not artistic enough.  I’m in love with how festive and creative it is!
  • If you like to keep it simple, I recommend painting your nails white to start off.  Then, add a black or red heart on your ring finger!  You can even add some glitter on top to make it pop.
  • I love using super thin nail polish brushes to decorate my nails.  It makes creating a design SO much easier!  Take one of these and paint the tip of an arrow on your middle finger.  Then finish it off by painting the end of the arrow on your ring finger to create the full arrow illusion!  Use either pink or red as the base and paint the arrow in white.  It’s so cute and outside the box!

Which design are you going to rock this holiday?  Practice your artistic ability and give one of these a try!

Nail care seems pretty simple: clip them, file them, paint them.  It’s as simple as that!  But is it actually that easy?  I never knew that there were certain do’s and don’ts that can make your nail care routine 10x better!  Here are some tips to follow and things to avoid when taking care of your nails.

DO’S

  • Create your own nail care routine.  Chelsea Crockett - Nail Care RoutineHaving a nail care routine down is important for maintaining your nails’ health.  Don’t let them grow weeks on end without trimming them up!
  • Moisturize your cuticle area.  Your cuticle area can get very dry and sometimes even painful.  Moisturize the area so you prevent flaky skin and redness.
  • Keep your nail tools clean!  Nail tools can get dirty just like any other beauty tool.  Make sure you keep them sterilized and free from bacteria!
  • Take nail strengthening supplements.  There are supplements for almost everything: hair, skin, nails, you name it!  Nail strengthening supplements help make your nails thicker and healthier!

DON’TS

  • Don’t bite your nails!  This one is a given.  Biting your nails isn’t only a bad habit, but it weakens and destroys them!
  • Don’t soak your nails for too long or use an excess amount of nail polish remover.  I know it’s frustrating when you can’t get off that stubborn nail polish that you’ve been scrubbing at for 20 minutes, but using too much nail polish remover will dry out your nails!
  • Don’t pull/rip off hangnails.  It’s extremely tempting to rip off any annoying hangnails especially when you don’t have any tools to help.  But when you can, I highly suggest using nail clippers to remove them instead of constantly picking at it!

I hope these pointers help you take your nail care routine to the next level! 🙂

I often catch myself staring at nail art on Pinterest completely mesmerized. How in the world do people do their nails so perfectly?! When I do mine I feel like a kindergartener trying to color inside the lines! Today I am going to share a perfectly easy, super cute nail art technique that gives you watercolor nails! Adorable!c6a50a2b33ffb54d5dffce613e6c7fdd

All you need for this technique is a Sharpie or two, a base nail color, and some rubbing alcohol. After painting your nails in the color of your choice (I would choose a pastel because spring is closeJ ), let them dry a spell. While they are drying, combine colorful Sharpie ink and rubbing alcohol in a separate bowl, then paint it onto your nails! It should look like a watercolor painting. Add glitter topcoat if you are feeling fancy.

How easy was that? This is a great, cute nail idea for Easter!

Fall/winter is my favorite time of year when it comes to nail trends. The tones are so rich and deep, plus they are very versatile and look good with just about any outfit! I can never decide which fall color I want to paint my nails because I love them all, but here are my top 5 go-to’s.

  1. Burgundy: Burgundy is classy and sassy. It is such a rich color, and I feel super feminine when I wear it. It is also a great fall/winter color because of the changing leaves and warm tones of nature.nails 1
  2. Grey: Grey is the perfect winter nail color because it is just dark enough to be “winter’ish”, but not as dark and severe as black, and not as summer-ish and peppy as white.
  3. Hunter green: You may not think that hunter green is a good nail color, but you would be mistaken! It is an untapped gem. Christmas colors are red and green, so some green in your look is encouraged. Hunter green is subtly green, so no need to fret if you are uneasy about wearing green on your nails.
  4. Dark sparkles: Want to show your mysterious side, playful side? Opt for dark polish with subtle sparkles!
  5. Nude: You can never go wrong with a perfectly pretty nude nail. If you aren’t sure what your Christmas has in store for you outfit wise, nude is a good bet because it goes with anything.

Happy polishing!

I have a confession. I get my nails done a LOT. I have been traveling a lot this summer, from LA to Alaska and beyond, and every time I go somewhere I like to have my nails done. I just feel so much more put together and polished when they are primped and painted. There are a few etiquette rules I always stick to at the salon to make sure it is a pleasant experience for everyone involved. 😉

  1. Be polite: You want to respect the nail technician working with you. If you have a request, like you want your nails filed a little bit more or need a smudge fixed, ask nicely and they will be happy to fix it for you!800e5b0c-aa39-4f85-b36c-d795da3124f7-340_q60
  2. Smell good: Before you get a pedi, shower! You want your feet to smell pleasant, not like old dirty socks!
  3. Hang up: When you are getting your nails done, put your phone away! Getting a mani/pedi is supposed to be a relaxing experience, and when there are gabbing people sitting next to you it can drive you crazy! Don’t be that person! 😉
  4. Silence it: This goes with #3, keep your phone on silent! Nobody wants to hear your phone tweeting, beeping, and honking while they are trying to relax!
  5. Tip: Just like any service, you need to tip when you get your nails done. If you got great service, show your appreciation!

Most people say there’s only one way to get the perfect manicure… going to an actual salon and paying the expensive price for your nails. FALSE! I’ve seen DIY manicures go totally wrong, and I understand it can be frustrating! So… here are a few hacks that help you save money and perfect a salon manicure at home :).

  • First comes first, how do you make your polish last longer? Even if your nails are already squeaky clean, go over them with some nail polish remover. This gets rid of any bacteria or dead skin that could prevent your polish from sticking for longer than a few days.Chelsea Crockett - DIY Dotting Tool
  • As far as decorating your nails goes, finding the perfect tool to make your designs isn’t always easy. All you need are some pencils (old or new!) and a few pins. Stick the pointy side far into the eraser and use the rounded side as a dotting tool!
  • There are a couple quick and easy ways to set your polish and hurry up the drying process. Pam’s cooking oil, believe it or not, is perfect for preventing smudges! After spraying them with that, dip your nails in ice cold water. This speeds up the polish’s hardening process tremendously.
  • Lastly, the way you apply your polish in coats is very important. It’s much better to apply small, thin coats instead of one thick coat. One thick coat will allow the top layer to dry much faster than the under layers and be more vulnerable to smudges!

Good luck insiders :)! – Chelsea

Preserve That Pedi!

Getting a pedicure or doing your own is a summer must! It’s essential to have fabulously, colorful nails that stick-out with any outfit! It’s the only thing that won’t get ruined in the summer heat (aka: frizzy hair and melted makeup). So how exactly do you keep that pedi going strong after all that your feet go through?! Follow these simple tips for a long-lasting pedicure!Chelsea Crockett- cuticle oil

Have you ever walked on a sandy beach and noticed how dry your toes look after a certain amount of time? Like your skin, your nails can become dry and brittle. This also contributes to your polish chipping. Keep your toes moisturized and polish silky-smooth by applying cuticle oil to the area. It’s also important not to shower after “just because your toes are dry”. Give it a few hours before getting in water. There’s always a possibility that a little pocket can allow water to get under the polish.

If you’re doing your own pedicure, begin by cleaning your toes with acetone. This removes all oils from the toenails, which allows polish to stick better! It’s also important never skip the base and top coat! This will save you the time of touching them up in a few days. When you’re finished putting color on each toe, make sure there’s no polish on your skin. If there is polish attached to your nail and skin, the polish can tear off very easily. No one wants that!

Now get off your computer, go find some fun nail polish, and get your pedi on!!

Having a spa day at an actual spa can be extremely expensive. Of course the treatments and messages are fabulous, but can be super overpriced! A DIY spa day at home is just what the doctor ordered. Here’s what you need:

One of my favorite things to do with my mom and sister is getting manicures and pedicures. It’s fun to do every once in a while but can start to add up. By doing a few simple steps at home, you can get almost the same turnout! Start off by using a small paintbrush to apply a layer of Elmer’s glue around your nail. This way you won’t get polish on your skin, it’ll just peel right off! Also when painting on your polish, don’t only apply a clear coat after, but before too! This will give your polish a good base in order to last longer.

What’s a spa without a facial? Chelsea Crockett - Banana MaskThis is a great recipe that’s simple to make so all your friends can enjoy. As you all know… I LOVE bananas! This face mask calls for plain yogurt, honey, and a banana. Mix together a ¼ cup of plain yogurt, a couple tablespoons of honey, and a banana and apply it to your face for about 15 minutes. Rinse it off and enjoy your smooth skin :).

Do you and your friends ever have a relaxed day at home? If you do something along these lines, let me know so I can try it out myself!

The Fourth of July is just around the corner.  What better way to top off your star spangled look than with red, white, and blue nail art?  Thank God we have the freedom to have fun with patriotic nails :).  Some girls (like my mom!) want to have fun, flashy, colorful nails.  You can fill your nail beds with stars, stripes, glitter and more.Chelsea Crockett - Fourth of July Nail

Other tastes, like the nails on the right, are more subtle. I’m more of a simple nails kind of girl so these are what I would go for! (Plus they’re easier to create!)  You can decorate with polka dots, chevron patterns, stripes, anything patriotic! You could paint all of your nails red but leave your ring finger to carry the flair of the US flag or simply a white star like the picture on the right.  It’s exciting to play around with your nails especially on holidays because there are so many different ways to decorate them.

I hope you enjoy family, friends, and fireworks on this Fourth of July! – Chelsea

Valentine’s Day is less than a month away!  It’s time to start thinking about who you want to spend your day with, what you’re going to wear, aaaaand what fabulous manicure you’re going to show off!  Besides makeup, I love doing my nails.  Sometimes, a simple French manicure is the way to go. Other times, I paint all of my nails to represent the fun of a holiday!  Whatever I am feeling, I always follow these important tips.Chelsea Crockett - Valentine's Nails

When filing your nails, always file in one direction.  Try not to file too far down the sides of your nails or make them too short. Hard files can cause damage to nails and create splits. Always protect your nails with a clear polish before applying colored polish.  After following those guidelines, create and enjoy your masterpieces!

Many chain stores sell Valentine stickers that you can use to create some show stopping nail art.  You can also use bows, hearts, glitter, pink, red, and white polishes to create your dramatic look.   A design like on the right is simple, festive, yet different. The ombré design may look hard, but one YouTube tutorial later and you’ll master it! There are hundreds of online tutorials to teach you how to do almost any design. Before painting your nails, just google image Valentine nail designs and your styles will be endless!

What is a great Christmas outfit without cute Christmas nails? Incomplete! Impress the socks off of everyone this Christmas with your super adorable nails! Here are a few ideas on what nail art to rock to any Christmas event you may attend.

Candy cane nails: Classic! If you want to go all out, then paint candy cane patterns on all of your nails. How you do this is paint all of your nails red and let them dry completely. Then, tape stripes on your nails with scotch tape. Paint white in the gaps of the scotch tape. Peel off the tape when the white paint is dry, and there you have candy cane stripes! If you want to go a little more subtle, paint all of your nails red and then paint one nail with the candy cane pattern as an accent nail.xmas nails

Sweater themed nails: Paint your nails like a Christmas sweater!

Snow nails: Paint all of your nails white and then roll them in glitter. Boom, snowy nails!

Simple classy nails: If you want to go with a subtle nail style, paint all of your nails black and then paint an accent nail with gold glitter paint. This style is edgy yet subtle, and the gold ties in the Christmas theme.

Nail art is the perfect finishing touch to any outfit.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!
