Tips from the Pros: How to Beat Acne Fast

I know for me, I can never have too many tips on how to beat acne.  It’s something that I struggle with day-by-day and I’m sure a lot of you do too!  Sometimes all we can do is look to the pros for some professional tips and advice.  Here are a few ways to beat acne fast by people that know what they’re talking about!

  • Always, always, always wash your face before bed.  If you can’t find enough motivation to do this, at least take off your makeup.  Bacteria, dirt, and oil can sit in your pores overnight and cause much bigger problems to your skin than you think!
  • Don’t over-wash your face.  Yes, washing your face is crucial, but washing it too much can actually have the opposite effect!  It can leave your skin dry and brittle which will hurt your skin and make it start to flake.
  • Leave your pimples alone.  If you continue to pop your pimples or pick at them, they can get very irritated, very fast.  If you simply leave them alone, they’ll go away at their own pace without pain or scarring!
  • Keep oil-absorbing sheets in your purse.  Oily skin can be one of the most annoying things.  It makes it harder for your makeup to stay on and leaves your skin looking overly shiny.  Keep a few oil-absorbing sheets in your purse to blot off any excess oil!

Hopefully these are some good tips that help you in your times of breakouts!  I know they helped me! 🙂

Exfoliation is key to clear skin. It makes your skin smooth, scrubs the dead skin off, and helps clear your pores! Today’s diy face wash is all natural and gives you all the benefits of a store bought exfoliant without the harsh chemicals. It combines baking soda (which is much less harsh on your skin than salt and sugar which are common exfoliants), coconut oil (which helps kill bacteria and decrease acne), and frankincense essential oil (which helps prevent wrinkles and regenerate healthy skin cells).

Instructions:

  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 5/10 drops frankincense oil
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

All you have to do is mix all of these ingredients together and store them in a container with a lid. That is it! To use it, gently rub a teaspoon or two into your skin using circular motions and then rinse off with warm water.

Exfoliation is key to healthy skin! Make this concoction part of your weekly routine to keep your skin glowing and clean.

Coconut oil doesn’t get nearly the credit it deserves.  It has so many benefits for your skin and especially hair!  It has hair repair, shine, and growth power that can do wonders if you pair it with the right ingredients.  Here are three different recipes you can create to cater whatever problems of your hair you want to fix! 🙂 Chelsea Crockett - Coconut Oil

  • Hair Repair.  If your hair is dry and damaged and needs some help, then this recipe is for you!  All you need is one egg and a tablespoon of coconut oil.  Beat the egg, add in the oil, and apply the mix to your scalp and hair.  Rinse it out with cool water and follow by washing your hair with shampoo.  Putting egg in your hair might sound gross, but it’s definitely worth it!
  • Hair Growth.  I know I’m not the only one that’s looked for a product to aid in hair growth.  This recipe really does work and you can do it right from home!  Mix together a tablespoon of coconut oil and a tablespoon of Aloe Vera.  Apply this gel to all areas of your hair including everything from your scalp to your ends.  Let it sit for half an hour then rinse it out with warm water!
  • Dandruff.  An itchy scalp is the absolute worst, especially if dandruff is the result.  Mix four tablespoons of coconut oil with one tablespoon of lemon juice.  Apply the mixture to your scalp wherever dandruff or itchiness is occurring.  After leaving this on for 15-20 minutes, shampoo and rinse your hair.  Do this before you shower and your head will feel much better!

Try it out for yourself and let it work its magic!

How to Deal with Period Breakouts

I think us girls can all agree on one thing: periods are the worst!  They’re the most dreaded time of the month that we can’t do anything to stop.  Not only do periods come with mood swings, cramps, and a lot of other dreaded symptoms, but acne and pimples start to pop up all around our face, too!  Period breakouts are tough to battle, but here are some tips that can help!

The days before:  It’s all about prevention.  Chelsea Crockett - Clay MaskWhen your period is near, there’s not much you can do besides trying to stop the breakouts from coming!  First comes first, avoid clogging your pores at all cost.  Make sure you take off your makeup before going to sleep and avoid touching your face a lot.  If you feel a pimple building up under your skin, try out a clay face mask to get rid of it for you!

During:  Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse!  Keeping your face clean from oils and dirt will aid in preventing hormonal breakouts.  So, make sure you’re thoroughly washing your face in the morning and at night and getting rid of any makeup or oil!

The days after:  After your period has finally come to an end, your skin should hopefully go back to its original state.  The toughest part of your battle is over!  The only thing I suggest is sticking to a daily skin routine to prevent random breakouts and to keep your skin under control.

I hope these help you have clearer skin during your time of the month!

Many of us are guilty of spending hundreds of dollars on hair styling products. Brands such as Chi can charge over a hundred dollars for a single straightener… Yikes! There are hundreds of different brands that offer the same types of products, but do they work just as well? Or is it worth the splurge?Chelsea Crockett - Hair Styling Tools I’m here to answer your questions!

Don’t get me wrong, the brand Chi offers amazing hair products. Their prices may be high, but their quality is worth it. They’re long-lasting and work really well on all different types of hair. That being said, there are many other brands that have the same effect as the higher quality products. When you’re shopping for a new straightener or curler, it’s hard to know which product you’re getting the best deal on based off the box or price. I suggest reading up on reviews and ratings before buying! They’re usually pretty accurate and can save you time and money!

As for styling products such as gels and oils, the same rules can be applied. One product that comes to mind is Moroccan Oil which can be pretty pricey. Argon oil from Target works almost just as well and is much more reasonably priced! You have to read up on different reviews of products to see if they’re worth the money!

Oily hair… a girl’s worst nightmare! It feels gross and looks gross. Sometimes it’s temporary due to our growth hormones…aka…puberty!  Here’s the 411: our body produces sebum which is natural grease from our scalp.  Sometimes it excretes extra sebum in response to our hormones gliding through our bodies.  Other times, people just have excess sebum production! Many times, however, we make these little mistakes!

Chelsea Crockett - Clarifying ShampooWashing your hair daily can make your oily scalp worse. It strips your hair of its natural sebum so your body produces extra to replace the natural oil that’s washed out.  So the next time you use a shampoo to dry out your scalp, be sure to look for clarifying shampoo. (But don’t over use these!)

The best way to overcome your oily scalp is to skip washing your hair. You can do this by picking a day when you will be at home and it really doesn’t matter. Give yourself some time to get used to this process. Then make it two days that you skip. Ideally, a person should be able to go 2-3 days between washing. On your days off, you can try dry shampoos and hair powders. There are quite a few options to help overcome your greasy look.

When you do shampoo your hair, remember a few of these little tricks. Use a clarifying shampoo twice a month. This will strip heavy build up from your strands. Let your hair dry naturally whenever possible. Heat tends to stimulate oil production. Also, when applying conditioner, keep it off of the scalp and mainly on the ends of your hair.

I hope these tips help you out! If you have some good advice, comment below!

I always get nervous when I straighten/curl my hair. I hate damaging it! I go through so much heat protectant because of my long thing hair. In order to keep your hair growing long and strong, you need to protect it from damage. The main thing that heat protectant does is moisturize your hair, so why not do it naturally? Here is how:Olive-oil

I did my research and found that coconut oil can actually work as a heat protectant! It is inexpensive, smells wonderful, and works! I usually put it on my hair when it is wet and then use a brush to evenly distribute it. Only use a little bit because it can make your hair a wee bit greasy if you use too much. It makes my hair so so so silky smooth! Also, after I use coconut oil as heat protectant on my hair and then straighten it, it stays straight ALL day! You can use other oils on your hair that work just as well as coconut oil in the “protectant” area! These oils are argan oil, shea butter, olive oil, and grape seed oil.

Using oils on your hair helps your hair replenish its natural oils, which is super healthy for your hair! Try these techniques and comment below and tell me how it goes!

I am enjoying healthy, moisturized hair, and you can too!

Keep Your Skin From Cracking This Season

I hope you are all having a lovely fall as we start transitioning into the cold and windy days.  Ice cold temperatures and fierce winds can really take a toll…

I hope you are all having a lovely fall as we start transitioning into the cold and windy days.  Ice cold temperatures and fierce winds can really take a toll on your skin, especially if your skin is extremely delicate.  Cracking and red patches are very common in the winter months and can leave your makeup looking drab.  The results of this weather change can also leave you looking more tired, for moisturized skin creates the illusion of being energized.   Follow a few of these simple steps to keep your skin looking radiant despite the harsh winter weather.

Try a moisturizer without an alcohol base.  Many drugstore moisturizers have alcohol as an ingredient.  Although lotions are supposed to moisturize, alcohol actually creates the opposite effect.  Try using an all-natural moisturizer made with natural oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, and hemp seed oil.  These natural oils can create a thick exterior, shielding your skin from the harshest of winds.  Another way to keep your skin feeling its very best is to wear minimal makeup.  You mustBeautyliciousinsider- Coconut Oil always allow your skin to breathe!  Over applying makeup to those stubborn red patches from the wind can only make it worse…plus, it doesn’t look very good!  Try only wearing cover up foundation and leaving dry patches makeup free.  It’s important that the pores soak up any moisture try can and allow oxygen in.  The last way to have moisturized skin is the simplest.  Drink LOTS of water.  Your skin is made up of about 10-20% of water.  When you are dehydrated, so is your skin.  Keep your skin happy and crack free by drinking a fair amount of water each day.

Don’t worry if your skin becomes difficult for the next couple of months.  It’s normal!  Make sure to be kind to your skin and give it the proper treatment it deserves.  Moisturized skin makes for a happy face!

What You’re Doing Wrong to Your Skin

Hi Insiders,

It’s hard not to “repin” a beauty mask on Pinterest that will get rid of acne once and for all.  Let’s be real, we’ve all done it and even tried it!  There are so many beauty products and remedies out there that claim to be “the best” for your skin.  So how do you know that your beauty regime isn’t hurting your skin?!  Truth be told, there are a lot of beauty products and/or remedies that may be doing more harm than help to your skin.

  • Lemon juice has been a topic of debate in the beauty world recently.  In the long run, the powerful acid may be slowly damaging your skin.  It breaks down the skins acidChelsea Crockett- sunscreen mantle, which blocks the skin from bacteria that can cause acne and/or infections.
  • Use sunscreen!!  This is one of the biggest beauty mistakes you can make.  Sun spots from overexposed skin to the sun can leave you looking older than you are.  It also protects against skin cancer.
  • Applying too many different products to your skin can cause breakouts.  Your skin does not know how to react to an overhaul of product causing irritation and confusion to your skin.  Try one product and a time to make sure it cooperates with your skin.
  • Just because you have oily skin doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use products with oil in it.  If you over wash your face and use acid based products to get rid of oil, your skin will just produce more oil.  Use a safe balance of both oil and acid when cleansing your face.

Love your skin and treat it properly!

XOXO,

Chelsea

Oily skin is totally obnoxious, am I right? What I didn’t know is that there is a super quick, easy way to help combat oily skin! When I discovered it I knew that I just HAD to share it with you all! Check it out, all you will need is:

–          Cotton balls

milk of magnesia chelsea crockett

–           Milk of Magnesia

Milk of Magnesia is found in drug stores and is often used to combat stomach aches. This item can be used as a primer before applying makeup, but watch out because it tends to cake up if not smoothed out, or it can be used as a facial mask. If your face is crazy oily then add more coats. Just pour some Milk of Magnesia onto your cotton ball and spread it on your face for 15 minutes. After the time has passed and the product has dried, then scrub it off with warm water and soap! Easy, right?

If you are feeling super oily, try this product on for size!

Hi Insiders,

Washing and conditioning your hair is obviously a great thing, but did you know that over washing your hair can actually be a problem?!  Every time you wash your hair, you’re stripping your hair of its natural oils making it more prone to pick upChelsea Crockett- shampoo extra oil throughout the day.  It can also cause your hair to be drier.  So next time you decided to hit the snooze button instead of washing your hair, don’t feel too bad about it!

Since washing your hair can actually make it more oily, it’s important to train your hair.  If you wash your hair every day, try washing it every other day instead.  Although it might start out by getting very oily, eventually it’ll quit being oily the second day.  Your hair will adapt to your shampooing schedule.  Also, pay attention to your hair type.  The thicker the hair, the more you need to wash it.  If you have fine hair, washing it 3 times a week would be just fine!  It’s important to know your hair.  If you can’t stand the thought of not washing your hair every day, then try using luke-warm water.  The hotter the water, the greater the chance you have of drying out your hair.

Next time you decide to wash your hair, pay attention to how it reacts!  Try training your hair so it becomes the healthiest hair it can be!

XOXO,

Chels

            Hello lovelies!

As you can tell, I love learning about and trying new makeup and skin products.  Not only do I like experimenting with new cosmetics, but hair products, too!  Argan oil and Moroccan oil are both products that are designed to make your hair softer, healthier, and shinier.  So, what’s the difference?  Which one is better?  If you’re looking for an answer, read below!

Argan oil is a gold oil extracted from the Argan tree.  It’s all natural and provides many health benefits.  This type of oil not only helps treat split-ends but other unwanted blemishes such as acne and dry skin.  It contains many fatty acids and high levels of Vitamin E which work to clear up spilt ends.  If you’re interested, click here! Chelsea Crockett - Moroccan Oil

Moroccan oil only barely differs from Argan oil.  The only difference is that Moroccan oil is made with added substances and ingredients such as Aloe.  Because it’s a less pure form of Argan oil, this may play a factor in which you would rather buy.  Although it’s not as pure, Moroccan oil still has many of the great benefits of Argan oil.  You can buy it here:http://tiny.cc/Moroccan_Oil.

So… which one do I prefer?  You can’t go wrong with either of them, but if I had to choose I would pick Argan oil.  Which one do you prefer?  Tell me below!
