5 Hints that God is Changing Your Course

If there’s one thing I know about God, it’s that he always knows what’s best for us. If we’re headed down the wrong path, he always put us back on the right one.

When God wants to change our course, he hints at us softly. I’ve learned a few different ways he does this, we just have to be looking for them.

  1. Your gut feeling.

This may be obvious, but your gut feeling can actually tell you a lot about a situation you’re in. Does it feel off? Do you constantly look for the negatives?

Take a relationship for example. If you find yourself consistently searching for red flags or “signs” to break up with that person, then maybe that’s a sign in itself. You can tell a lot about a situation from simply how you’re feeling. This may be one of the small, subtle ways that God is trying to hint at you that maybe you’re not where you’re supposed to be.

2. Rejection

This is one of God’s more blatant ways of telling us no. Maybe it’s a job rejection, a date rejection, a college rejection letter… Whatever it may be, always remember that everything happens for a reason: HIS reason!

  1. A constant thought.

A reoccurring thought can mean more than you think. Those thoughts can be God whispering to you time and time again. Isaiah 30:21 says, “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”Take these consistent thoughts and pray over them. God will tell you the way to walk in!

  1. Confirmation from others.

Not just confirmation from anyone, but good, godly counsel are the people you want to seek advice from. Maybe a close friend or family member you look up to is trying to give you sound guidance that is different than what you’re currently pursuing. Again, pray about it and ask God to reveal his plan to you piece by piece!

Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” He may do this through good counsel! Be eager to listen to those you seek advice from.

  1. A change of interest.

Sometimes, changing your course could mean a simple change of interest. I’ve had friends apply for schools and jobs and suddenly realize that that’s not where they want to be. Don’t ignore these feelings! They can be so clear and extremely meaningful. Why continue down a path you’re no longer interested in?

Pay attention to these quiet hints God is giving you! Pray over each and every one of them and change your course as God is calling you.

If you’ve been in a situation where you don’t know which way to go or turn to next, then you can understand the confusion, anxiety, and frustration that can build up over time.

Maybe you can’t decide where to go to college and your decision deadline is getting closer and closer. Or maybe you can’t decide which job offer to accept because it means moving to a new city, far away from home.

There will be so many times throughout your life where you’ll come to a difficult crossroad. You can think on a decision for months, without coming to a confident conclusion of which path is best for you to take. It can be scary, especially when you feel like you’re alone and helpless.

Well, I have great news for you! Jesus, our Lord and Savior, can help us tremendously when we come to a crossroad! He wants us to come to him waving our white flags, surrendering to his plan for our life.

First off, have you asked God for guidance? Sometimes simply asking Him to speak to you and tell you the way to go is all you really have to do. Then listen for those still small voices in the back of your mind. You’ll know when they’re from God!

Isaiah 30:21 says, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”

Have you heard God’s voice before? Those small, quiet whispers in the back of your head mean more than you think. They are not always you second guessing yourself. Sometimes they really are God speaking to you! How cool is that?

The key to eliminating this crossroad confusion is confidence, both in yourself and in the fact of who God is. He will never lead you astray or guide you into something that isn’t for your benefit. You may be scared of a situation you’re in, but think of the good that can come out of it before you start to blame God.

Psalm 37:23-24 says, “The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his right hand.”

God never says that every situation you encounter will be easy. In fact, he knows life can and will be hard at times. But “though he may stumble, he will not fall,” meaning YOU! Although you face mountains, God will move them for you. Nothing is too big for God!

Be confident that God has made your steps firm. Don’t second guess the creator of the plan for your life! Listen for his voice when you ask for it. Take the path that God presents to you. It can be scary, but trusting in God and putting your faith in Him will never lead you astray!

Those Who Walk with God, Always Reach Their Destination

If we had a compass that showed us the right way whenever we came to a crossroad, we would walk through life stress-free and confident.

If I could predict the next 10 years of my life, I’d have no problem putting all my trust in the future and depending on myself for security and happiness.

Why is it so hard for us to feel secure in our future when we know the one who planned it is holding it in his hands?

If anything, this should give us more security than anything in the world.

When we walk through seasons of our life, it’s easy to forget that God is walking right beside us. If we could see him, we would see that he never leaves our side, not once.  If we were perfect Christians, we would do the same, sticking by his side at all times as well.

Luke 9:23 says, “Then he said to them all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.’”

God doesn’t just ask us to follow him. He asks us to take up our cross and deny ourselves.

This verse is proof that walking with God is not always the easiest path. You will face struggles and persecution, but God is still there in the midst of it all.

He wants us to deny ourselves, prioritizing his commands over our own wants and desires. Whether you prioritize sleep, a social life, a reputation, etc., we should forget about it all in the presence of God.

The closer you walk with God, the less room for anything to come in between.” The closer you cling to him, the harder it is for the devil to work in your life. God wants us to succeed! He wants us to strengthen our dependence on him and follow the path he created for us.

The devil’s not the only enemy that tries to throw you off your path. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”

Sometimes we ourselves are our greatest enemy! We try to control our plans and focus on what we want instead of what God wants.

I know for me, my thoughts can completely take over. My thoughts say one thing while the Bible says the other. Although our way seems more appealing at times, God’s way is full of endless joy and peace.

It’s been proven to me time after time that God’s way is the best way. He never fails us and never points us in the wrong direction. It was when I truly believed this that I began to give up the ways of this world and take on the ways of his Word.

I encourage you to do the same and reach your destination with the person who determined it.
