There’s so many times that I want to simply show how much I love and appreciate my best friends for all they’ve done for me.  Especially at this point in my life, all my friends and I are going our separate ways for college.  If you’re in the same boat, or simply want to do something special for your BFFs, here are a few DIY gifts you can surprise them with!

  • Friendship bracelets are not overrated!  They might be the basic BFF gift but you can put your own spin on it! Chelsea Crockett - Gift Basket Depending on where you live, there are tons of places and stores that can engrave whatever you want onto a bracelet or necklace.  Maybe add your initials or you can your friend’s favorite Bible verse!
  • For this DIY, you’ll need to develop your favorite picture of you and your best friend.  You’ll need to buy a matted frame that you can write on from a craft store like Hobby Lobby.  Think of quotes or sayings that you and your friend like and write them all over the frame with a Sharpie!
  • Each of my best friends and I have certain foods or specific places we like to go, and of course lots of inside jokes.  Buy a cute basket and fill it with your guys’ favorite snacks, gift cards to your favorite places, or any funny things that remind you of her!  I also suggest getting a card to write a heartfelt message whatever the occasion may be!

I hope your BFF enjoys whatever wonderful DIY you decide to create! 🙂

3 Ways to Display Pictures in Your Room/Dorm

As teenagers, we take a ton of pictures. At least I do! Everywhere I go I make sure to capture the moment, whether it be my last senior homecoming or traveling across the country. I love displaying all the pictures I take in my room in different, creative DIY ways. Here are 3 of my favorites you can use for your own room or dorm!

I’m sure you’ve all seen this idea. All you need is some string and clothespins (and if you have a Polaroid, even better!). Hang the string across your wall and dangle different pictures on it with clothespins! You can make it however you want, whether you want your pictures in black and white or using Christmas light instead of string. If you have a Polaroid, hang your Polaroids instead of normal pictures!

Have you ever seen a DIY Instagram wall? I love them! Depending on how big you want to make it, you’ll need several mini, 4×4 white frames (you can Chelsea Crockett - Instagram Wallchange your frame sizes and colors if you prefer). However many frames you have, you’ll need to have the same number of pictures. Pick your favorite Instagram photos and develop them the size you need to fit inside the frames. Walgreens is the perfect place to do this; they have an app that lets you order them immediately! Arrange them like the picture on the left and you’re done! P.S. You can even ditch the frames for a simpler, and not to forget cheaper, look.

My last DIY idea is a picture clock! Take 12 different sized picture frames and pick your favorite photos to go in each. Arrange them in a circle completed with hands to tell the time in the middle. You can buy these at a wide variety of craft stores such as Hobby Lobby and Michaels.

Step-by-Step Instagram Theme

Instagram is one of my favorite social media platforms (besides YouTube of course!). It’s simply another way to express myself and show the things I love or what’s going on in my daily life. If you follow a lot of popular accounts, you’ll notice a certain look or “theme” to their page. Sometimes a theme is hard to achieve, but it’s not as hard as it looks!Chelsea Crockett - Instagram Page

  1. First, pick a color or hue that represents you and your pictures. Michelle Phan’s Instagram is a perfect example of this! The picture on the right shows her use of lavender and pink hues. Having a few colors on your page ties everything together. That being said, lots of colors or no color at all can also look just as good! I know a lot of YouTubers make use of whites, greys, and blacks instead of any color at all!
  2. Second, find your filters. Picture editing apps such as Afterlight, VSCO, or even simply Instagram will give you tons of different edits to choose from. Pick your favorites that tie together all your pictures! I tend to stick with the same filters which helps your theme, as well!
  3. The third step is the most important. Post what you love and what makes you happy! Sure, Instagram themes are fun to try and stick with, but social media is about expressing yourself and showing who you are. Don’t get too caught up in making your Instagram look how you want it. Instead, post pictures of you and your friends on the weekends or even your brunch at a cute restaurant :)!

Our generation is obsessed with social media.  It’s almost become a competition of who can show-off their life better or who can post the most fabulous photo on Instagram.  Unfortunately, it’s not about enjoying life anymore, but capturing a photo or Snapchat video of the moment.  It’s time that we put our phones down, turn off social media, and soak in the incredible life God has given us. Chelsea Crockett- family

Too often, we don’t enjoy what we are doing with our friends or family, because we are too focused on posting everything on Snapchat and Twitter, and waiting around to take an Instagram picture of the new outfit we got or the cool place we are at.  Instead of sitting around on your phone or social media waiting for the perfect moment to capture, capture the memory in your mind instead.  Soak in every second spent in a beautiful place with friends and family.  You can always take a picture, but you can never get back moments in your life you wasted or didn’t enjoy.  Next time you catch yourself too focused on social media and posting what you are doing, put your phone away, sit back, and live in the moment.

XOXO,

Chelsea

Instagram is all the rage right now!  It’s almost become a sort of art work!  When it comes to the pictures themselves, making sure they’re perfectly brightened, contrasted, and cropped is key to achieving the perfect Insta pic.  Keep on reading for my greatest tips, tricks, and applications.

Afertlight is one of my favorite picture editing apps from the App Store!  Although it’s $0.99, it’s totally worth it.  You can choose between filters, brighten, contrast, saturate, add borders, and crop photos!  When brightening a photo, don’t go overboard!  If your nose or other facial features start to disappear, then you know you’ve gone a little overboard.  Brighten it enough so that you can easily view the scenery, background, or person.  Next, contrast photos that seem a little blurry or need to be sharpened.  Sometimes too much contrast can make a photo look fake, so be careful!Chelsea Crockett- Afterlight

When it comes to picking a filter, remember…less is more.  Try choosing colors that look natural, but bring out the beauty of the photo.  Trying to “make yourself look better” shouldn’t always be your goal.  Last, if desired, try adding a border to make the photo stand out or more unique.  The sky’s the limit!

Happy editing!

If you can’t tell from my Instagram, I love taking pictures! It’s such a great way to store memories.  My room is covered in pictures, so finding new places to set or hang them is becoming a struggle.  Recently I stumbled upon an awesome DIY.  A large picture letter is a great way to decorate your room with your initial and cover it in pictures!  Check out how to make your own picture letter!Chelsea Crockett- matte modge podge

What you’ll need:

  • Large wooden letter (you can get this at any craft store)
  • Matte Modge Podge
  • 4×6 photos (make sure to print more than you need)
  • Foam paint brushes
  • Scissors

Start by arranging the photos on the letter the way you like them. Understand that most of the photos will have to be trimmed, so try positioning the photos so that no one gets cut out of the picture.  Once the photos are laid down, brush Modge Podge on the back of each photo and glue them to the letters surface.  Once all the photos are glued down, begin trimming around the letter so that the photos match the edge of the letter.  Now that the photos are in the shape of the letter, lightly brush Modge Podge back on top of the photos.  Although it will look white, don’t panic, it will dry clear and give it a matte finish!

Now your photo is ready to be hung up! I hope you all enjoy this DIY!

Love,

Chelsea

Dorm rooms are the perfect place to express your personality and personal style! These simple DIY’s can spruce up your dorm room and make it feel a little more “you”!

Photo wall art: What makes your dorm room more “you” than pictures of your friends and family?! There are some really cool ways to display your photos. One way is to arrange them in cool shapes, such as a heart, like the example below! You can also take string and attach it to your wall with thumb tacks and then hang pictures on the string with clothes pins, like the picture below!

Another DIY that not only spruces up your dorm but is also fab for storage is colored jars! By taking mason jars and swishing paint around in the jar, you coat the inside and create a super adorable room accent! You can keep pens and pencils in them, hair ties, paper clips, anything that you want!

The last way that you can make your dorm feel more perky is by hanging twinkling lights inside your dorm, whether it is from the ceiling, your bed, or on your walls. Twinkling lights can give your room a calming sense and help you feel more like home, and they can turn any gloomy dorm room into a twinkling, cheery one!

If you are like me, then you love having pictures displayed around your room. They remind me of the good times I have had and the great people I have had them with. Picture frames can sometimes be a bit pricey, though, and can be a little plain! I found a great DIY to help display those photos in a super cute way! Check it out:

download (3)

What you need:

–          Clothes pins

–          Cardboard

–          Pictures

Cut a medium sized circle out of your cardboard. Make it look like a donut, with the center cut out. If you want, you can cover the ring with decorative paper or fabric to add a little extra oomf to it! Next, hot glue your clothes pins onto the cardboard ring. Make sure they are evenly spaced out and spread out enough that you can fit multiple pictures around the ring without being too crowded. Boom, you are finished! If you want, you can make multiple clothes pin frames and hang them close together in your room to create wall art. Sweet, right?

Show off your artistic side with these cute frames!

Chelsea Crockett - Picture Cork BoardIf you’ve ever seen Pottery Barn, you’ll know that all of their merchandise is fun and creative, but don’t forget a little pricey!  One of their products is a photo cork board, such as the one on the left.  Most people don’t want to pay for things that they can easily make at home.  That being said, here’s a short tutorial on a DIY picture cork board!

First off, you’ll need to determine how big you want your board, depending on the size of the wall you put it on.  Here’s what you need for one such as the board above!  First, find nine small squares of cork board.  Keep in mind the size of your wall!  You’ll need to go to your nearest craft store such as Hobby Lobby for example.  Then, pick out nine colors or patterns of cloth that will look best in your room!  Make sure you get the right sized cloth to glue onto your cork.  Once you get home, I suggest taking a hot glue gun to glue your cloth and cork together.  Then, ask a parent, or someone who is good with a saw, to cut a piece of thin plywood the size that you need.  Remember to leave room for your frame.  After, take your nine material cork squares and glue them to the plywood in whatever order you want.  Last, cut some trim to frame the outside of your patterned board.  Make sure to use a strong glue to glue it on.  There are many ways to hang your board on your wall.  Ask help from a parent for which way is best.  Then add as many photos or decorations as you want!  Enjoy!
