Urban Decay’s Rehab Makeup Prep Collection has all your makeup prep needs fulfilled with just four products!  This collection targets your face, lips, skin, and pores specifically with each different gel or serum.  I wanted to tell you a little bit more about their Rehab Makeup and show you just how great each product is!

  • Hot Springs Hydrating Gel ($28). Chelsea Crockett - Rehab Makeup Prep I’ve always tried to find a hydrating gel or cream that gives my skin the nourishment it needs without making it look or feel oily.  They made this product ultralight so it won’t weigh down your skin while hydrating it at the same time!
  • Lip Love ($15).  This lip balm is an oil-based formula that leaves your lips smooth and soft.  It provides the perfect base for applying lipstick, lip gloss, or whatever lip product you’re rocking that day.
  • Pretty Gritty Skin Polish ($28).  Dry or peeling skin can oftentimes be the hardest surface to try and apply a long-lasting face of makeup to.  And since it’s summertime, I’m sure lots of us have some peeling skin here and there.  Use this polish to exfoliate your skin for a perfectly smooth face!
  • Pore Refining Peel ($26).  Are your pores clogged with oil, dirt, or other bacteria?  If your skin feels heavy and oily, try using this peel-off face mask to draw out any impurities that are harming your skin!

Have you ever tried out this collection?  If so, tell me which product is your favorite and why in the comments below!

Nail care seems pretty simple: clip them, file them, paint them.  It’s as simple as that!  But is it actually that easy?  I never knew that there were certain do’s and don’ts that can make your nail care routine 10x better!  Here are some tips to follow and things to avoid when taking care of your nails.

DO’S

  • Create your own nail care routine.  Chelsea Crockett - Nail Care RoutineHaving a nail care routine down is important for maintaining your nails’ health.  Don’t let them grow weeks on end without trimming them up!
  • Moisturize your cuticle area.  Your cuticle area can get very dry and sometimes even painful.  Moisturize the area so you prevent flaky skin and redness.
  • Keep your nail tools clean!  Nail tools can get dirty just like any other beauty tool.  Make sure you keep them sterilized and free from bacteria!
  • Take nail strengthening supplements.  There are supplements for almost everything: hair, skin, nails, you name it!  Nail strengthening supplements help make your nails thicker and healthier!

DON’TS

  • Don’t bite your nails!  This one is a given.  Biting your nails isn’t only a bad habit, but it weakens and destroys them!
  • Don’t soak your nails for too long or use an excess amount of nail polish remover.  I know it’s frustrating when you can’t get off that stubborn nail polish that you’ve been scrubbing at for 20 minutes, but using too much nail polish remover will dry out your nails!
  • Don’t pull/rip off hangnails.  It’s extremely tempting to rip off any annoying hangnails especially when you don’t have any tools to help.  But when you can, I highly suggest using nail clippers to remove them instead of constantly picking at it!

I hope these pointers help you take your nail care routine to the next level! 🙂

Love, Chels

Most people say there’s only one way to get the perfect manicure… going to an actual salon and paying the expensive price for your nails. FALSE! I’ve seen DIY manicures go totally wrong, and I understand it can be frustrating! So… here are a few hacks that help you save money and perfect a salon manicure at home :).

  • First comes first, how do you make your polish last longer? Even if your nails are already squeaky clean, go over them with some nail polish remover. This gets rid of any bacteria or dead skin that could prevent your polish from sticking for longer than a few days.Chelsea Crockett - DIY Dotting Tool
  • As far as decorating your nails goes, finding the perfect tool to make your designs isn’t always easy. All you need are some pencils (old or new!) and a few pins. Stick the pointy side far into the eraser and use the rounded side as a dotting tool!
  • There are a couple quick and easy ways to set your polish and hurry up the drying process. Pam’s cooking oil, believe it or not, is perfect for preventing smudges! After spraying them with that, dip your nails in ice cold water. This speeds up the polish’s hardening process tremendously.
  • Lastly, the way you apply your polish in coats is very important. It’s much better to apply small, thin coats instead of one thick coat. One thick coat will allow the top layer to dry much faster than the under layers and be more vulnerable to smudges!

Good luck insiders :)! – Chelsea

Preserve That Pedi!

Getting a pedicure or doing your own is a summer must! It’s essential to have fabulously, colorful nails that stick-out with any outfit! It’s the only thing that won’t get ruined in the summer heat (aka: frizzy hair and melted makeup). So how exactly do you keep that pedi going strong after all that your feet go through?! Follow these simple tips for a long-lasting pedicure!Chelsea Crockett- cuticle oil

Have you ever walked on a sandy beach and noticed how dry your toes look after a certain amount of time? Like your skin, your nails can become dry and brittle. This also contributes to your polish chipping. Keep your toes moisturized and polish silky-smooth by applying cuticle oil to the area. It’s also important not to shower after “just because your toes are dry”. Give it a few hours before getting in water. There’s always a possibility that a little pocket can allow water to get under the polish.

If you’re doing your own pedicure, begin by cleaning your toes with acetone. This removes all oils from the toenails, which allows polish to stick better! It’s also important never skip the base and top coat! This will save you the time of touching them up in a few days. When you’re finished putting color on each toe, make sure there’s no polish on your skin. If there is polish attached to your nail and skin, the polish can tear off very easily. No one wants that!

Now get off your computer, go find some fun nail polish, and get your pedi on!!

Valentine’s Day is less than a month away!  It’s time to start thinking about who you want to spend your day with, what you’re going to wear, aaaaand what fabulous manicure you’re going to show off!  Besides makeup, I love doing my nails.  Sometimes, a simple French manicure is the way to go. Other times, I paint all of my nails to represent the fun of a holiday!  Whatever I am feeling, I always follow these important tips.Chelsea Crockett - Valentine's Nails

When filing your nails, always file in one direction.  Try not to file too far down the sides of your nails or make them too short. Hard files can cause damage to nails and create splits. Always protect your nails with a clear polish before applying colored polish.  After following those guidelines, create and enjoy your masterpieces!

Many chain stores sell Valentine stickers that you can use to create some show stopping nail art.  You can also use bows, hearts, glitter, pink, red, and white polishes to create your dramatic look.   A design like on the right is simple, festive, yet different. The ombré design may look hard, but one YouTube tutorial later and you’ll master it! There are hundreds of online tutorials to teach you how to do almost any design. Before painting your nails, just google image Valentine nail designs and your styles will be endless!

If now isn’t a better time to try out gel nails, I don’t know when is! Gel nail polish is extremely popular right now and healthier for your nails than acrylics. You can get them done at almost any nail salon or you can even do them at home yourself! Here are some tips to get salon nails at home!

Chelsea Crockett - Gel Nail Polish KitFirst off, you will have to purchase a gel nail starter kit. You can find one at Sephora, Ulta, or on Amazon (If you want to explore some, click here!). They can be pricey, so putting it on the top of your Christmas wish list isn’t a bad idea! After you have your kit, the directions will let you know the next step… But getting the salon finish isn’t hard with a little advice.

For each of your polish coats, here are a couple secrets to keep them long-lasting. First, make sure your cuticles aren’t overgrown. Second, make sure you keep the polish from touching your skin. Both of these secrets will prevent your polish from peeling off within the first few days. Another tip that may or may not be obvious is to keep your nails clipped. If your nails are brittle and overgrown, they’re more likely to break off along with your polish!

So… what’s a better thing to be listed on the top of your Christmas wish list?

Enjoy! – Chelsea

Matte Nails: Different Ways to Rock the Trend

Matte polish is so chic. Add matte top coat to any color and it instantly becomes 10x edgier. There are some really cool, really unique ways to wear matte polish! Want to rock this trend and show your edgier side? Stick around!

Matte French Manicure: This is a totally new spin on the traditional French Manicure. I love this look with black 2f22f3f6c29b4a30b5432b4912e411f4polish, but you can really do it with any polish of your choice. Just paint your nails whatever shade you prefer (I am going to use black for my example) and let the polish dry for a good long time. Once the polish is thoroughly dry, place a small piece of masking tape over the tip of your nail to cover it up. Then, paint matte polish over the rest of the nail. The covered portion will remain shiny while the rest will be matte, which creates the “French Manicure” look.

The “Accent” Nail: Paint all of your nails but one. Leave one nail as an “accent” nail. Paint all of your fingers but the accent nail in one shade, and then paint the matte polish over them. Paint your accent nail in a different color or paint it in glitter polish, and then cover it with regular shiny top coat. This look is unique and totally adorable! Great for making a statement.

Diagonal Polish: Paint all your nails in the color of your choice and let them dry thoroughly. After they are totally dry, cover each nail diagonally with a piece of tape. This process is similar to the matte French tip, but the style of nail is different. Once your tape is diagonally placed over half the nail, paint the other half matte. This is another edgy, unique way to rock matte nails!

Never knew there could be so many great ways to wear matte nails, didja?!

Nail Cheats for the Perfect Manicure

Going to get your nails done isn’t cheap. Especially for something that you can simply do at home without emptying your wallet! Maybe your painting skills aren’t the best, but there are a few things you can do to help improve your home-manicure results for a salon finish!

To start off, make sure your nails are clean of any old nail polish, dirt, etc. Put some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball and wipe your nails to ensure they’re 100% clean. After that, push your cuticles down as far as you can so your polish will stay on longer. It doesn’t matter what you use to do this. Simply using your other nails to push down the cuticles works just fine!

Now comes the fun part. Pick out whatever polishes you want to use on your nails. You can either paint them yourself or, if you’re not the best nail artist, have your mom or friend do them for you!

Chelsea Crockett - DIY ManicureA manicure wouldn’t be complete without a fun design or pattern. One of my favorites is the design on the left. You can choose any three colors and go to town! Whatever the lightest polish of the three is, paint your entire nail that color. Then wait until your nails completely dry (I suggest putting them in front of a fan to speed up the process if you’re in a time crunch). After your polish is entirely dry, place a piece of scotch tape crooked on your nail, whatever way you want the diagonal to go. Then paint a couple coats of the darker color on top of the lighter polish that isn’t covered by the type.  Then repeat the process with the darkest color.  Finish it off with a topcoat and you’re set!

Now you can be a pro manicurist right in your home :)! Enjoy!

Some may say a pedicure is the perfect time to relax, unwind, and get pampered.  I can agree with this.  Freshly painted toes are one of the best feelings in the world!  Unfortunately, most pedicures come at a heavy price; especially if you go regularly!  Instead of hitting up the salon every 2 weeks, try giving yourself an at-home pedicure!  It’s simple and easy; plus, your bank account will thank you!  Give it a try!

As crazy as it may sound, a milk bath is actually beneficial to your feet by smoothing calluses.  Start by filling a bowl with warm water and milk.  Let your feet soak for as long as you’d like!  Next, rub cuticle oil on each toe and start to push back each cuticle with your finger nail.  Rinse each foot and dry them off with a towel!  Now, cut back and file your nails to your liking!

Refill the bowl with clean hot water.  Using a pumice stone or foot scrub, scrub away any dry, unwanted skin.  Be sure to target your toes and heels!  Once your feetChelsea Crockett- painted toenails feel new again, rinse away the dead skin, dry your feet, and lather them with lotion!  Last but not least, pick out your polish and paint away!

Next time you’re dying for a pedicure, but don’t have the money to do so, try giving yourself one!  You may surprise yourself!

XOXO,

Chelsea
