I know for me, I can never have too many tips on how to beat acne.  It’s something that I struggle with day-by-day and I’m sure a lot of you…

I know for me, I can never have too many tips on how to beat acne.  It’s something that I struggle with day-by-day and I’m sure a lot of you do too!  Sometimes all we can do is look to the pros for some professional tips and advice.  Here are a few ways to beat acne fast by people that know what they’re talking about!

  • Always, always, always wash your face before bed.  If you can’t find enough motivation to do this, at least take off your makeup.  Bacteria, dirt, and oil can sit in your pores overnight and cause much bigger problems to your skin than you think!
  • Don’t over-wash your face.  Yes, washing your face is crucial, but washing it too much can actually have the opposite effect!  It can leave your skin dry and brittle which will hurt your skin and make it start to flake.
  • Leave your pimples alone.  If you continue to pop your pimples or pick at them, they can get very irritated, very fast.  If you simply leave them alone, they’ll go away at their own pace without pain or scarring!
  • Keep oil-absorbing sheets in your purse.  Oily skin can be one of the most annoying things.  It makes it harder for your makeup to stay on and leaves your skin looking overly shiny.  Keep a few oil-absorbing sheets in your purse to blot off any excess oil!

Hopefully these are some good tips that help you in your times of breakouts!  I know they helped me! 🙂

A detox diet may seem like a perfect way to drop a few pounds. You might cleanse for a day, or multiple, to quickly lose some weight. There’s controversy on whether or not these diets are actually benefitting or hurting our bodies. After doing some research, I made a list of pros and cons to bust the myths about detoxing. So you can decide for yourself!

If you’re unfamiliar with the term, detox dieting is when you limit your intake to only fluids, vegetables, or fruit for hours or days at a time. One of the most popular ways of doing so is a juice cleanse. The purpose of these is to flush out or cleanse your body of any wastes or toxins, resulting in quick weight loss.Chelsea Crockett - Fruit

PROS – For the positives of detoxing, I can state the obvious: quick weight loss, eliminating toxins, cleansing your system, etc. If you limit your diet to solely fruits and vegetables, you’re bound to drop a few pounds within your diet. Any diet that reduces fattening, sugary, or processed food can positively affect your body, as long as you’re careful and do it the right way.

CONS – You might be thinking, are detox diets even necessary? The answer is no. Your body already has functions to get rid of any toxins or waste your body doesn’t need. They also aren’t recommended for teens since our bodies are still growing and need the nutrients and proteins.

So you decide for yourself! If you want a quick jumpstart on your diet, try it out! But if not, I suggest sticking to exercise and healthy eating :).

Running is an amazing exercise. Of course, I’m not always pumped to go on a run, but when I do, I feel refreshed and in shape! Some of my friends are very passionate runners and run miles on miles every single day. But then again, some doctors and adults think running can have more negative effects than positive on your body. I did some research, and here’s what I came up with.Chelsea Crockett - Benefits of Running

Let’s start with the cons. Running is an exercise that opens up a higher possibility to injury. It’s hard on your joints and can hurt your knees, shins, feet, etc. Running is obviously a more stressful, intense form of cardio exercise. If you run on a daily basis, you have to know what you’re doing. Keeping hydrated and listening to your body are two of the most important running pointers! If you overdo it, your muscles and joints could have some long-term damage.

Now onto the pros. One of my favorite things about running is feeling like I accomplished something after I finish. Exercising in general gives off endorphins that make you happy. Running also builds muscles and improves your stamina, which is always good when it comes to exercise. Stress levels decrease and you get a feeling of accomplishment. It’s an individual sport, so you set your goals and only you can accomplish them!

You decide for yourself. Do the pros outweigh the cons? In my opinion, running is an awesome exercise :)!

If your city is like mine, then there is a Starbuck’s on every corner!  It’s quite tempting and pretty hard to say “no” to a hot coffee or icy frappe when it’s right there!  It’s also hard not to make when you’ve got a coffee maker and creamers in your own kitchen.  Nevertheless, coffee is almost unavoidable!  So is this girly drink good or bad for you?  Let’s break down the truth!

Surprisingly enough, coffee has a handful of health benefits!  Coffee contains an abundance of antioxidants that actually prevent brain cell damage.  It helps fight diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.  Even the risk of brain cancer and diabetes drops!  Coffee is also heart healthy!  It keep arteries from becoming inflamed, which lowers the risk of stroke; but be careful, too much coffee can have the opposite effect! Chelsea Crockett- coffee pros and cons

While coffee has a lot of pros, it can also hinder your health.  If you get stressed easily or can’t sleep at night, then lay off the coffee.  Coffee is high in caffeine, which can make certain people very jittery and/or anxious.  If you’re one of these people, but love coffee, just drink one cup a day!  It’s also not a great idea to add a large amount of heavy creamers and sugar to each glass.  All in all, coffee isn’t too bad for you (unless you’re having 5 cups a day)!

Real vs. Fake Eyelashes

Have you ever seen someone with gorgeous fake eyelashes and wondered if you could pull off those luscious lashes, too? Whether you worry about looking unnatural or hurting your real lashes, there are several pros to fake lashes… but with pros come cons and I’m here to help you decipher the two!   So, here are my thoughts on the great debate: real vs. fake?

CONS

  • Infections. Not that these are very commonChelsea Crockett - Fake Eyelashes or unavoidable, but they can occur! As long as you use your fake lashes and yours only, then the risk of infection goes way down. Sharing isn’t always good :)! Be extra careful you don’t accidentally get yours switched up with your friends. (Make sure you’re not allergic, too!  Yikes!)
  • You have to be very careful when putting on your false lashes. If you’re wearing long-lasting ones, you have to be sure not to drip the glue onto your real lashes. You don’t want to accidentally pull off your real ones when taking off your fake ones! Ouch!
  • The cost is yet another con. Although a set of fake lashes aren’t super pricey, they’re still more than mascara. With mascara, you have several days’ uses for long lashes instead of continually paying the price for false ones.

PROS

  • The most obvious pro is making your lashes look lusher, fuller, and longer than they actually are. If you’re one that has thin, short eyelashes, these might be for you!
  • Another fun positive is being able to dress up your look. Having bolder eyes than you normally do can make your makeup look more formal, and can even brighten up your whole look!
  • False lashes come in a huge variety of sizes, shapes, prices, etc. You can get individual lashes that are more natural looking or go full out and get a thick strip to make your eyes pop!

I prefer real lashes for the more natural look and quick application, but I’ll let you decide! So… real or fake?

Every girl wants perfectly manicured nails that actually last. Now that you can get fake nails almost anywhere, it seems as if that dream has come true! Many people wonder if fake nails are worth it considering they can hurt your natural nails and often cost more than just polish. I have come up with a few pros and cons to let you decide for yourself whether or not fake nails are worth the risk!

Let’s start off with some pros. Fake nails obviously last longer and are less likely to chip than polished nails. If your nails often crack or become brittle, these nails can be a good option for you. I’m not always happy with my nail beds especially when they chip and become thin. These can easily cover that up and give off a perfectly polished look to my nails. With acrylic nails, you can choose how long you want them to be and what you want them to look like. You also don’t have to worry about maintaining them every two seconds.Chelsea Crockett - Acrylic Nails

Now for the cons. Acrylic nails can easily damage your natural nails. With all of the glue they put to make sure the nails last, it threatens the health of the nails underneath. The truth is, it takes many months for the original nail plate to grow back, causing your nails to be even weaker. Also, fake nails tend to be more expensive. Although they last longer, you still have to keep up with maintaining them.

As thought by our grandparents, social media is the “route to all evil”.  Our generation is constantly on our phones or iPads, checking twitter and Facebook, and editing pictures for Instagram.  Although social media may be taking over the world, it isn’t all bad!

Social media is a great way to express yourself through photographs, thoughts, and ideas.  Some use it as an outlet to post their passion for photography or wise words!  It’s also a great way to Chelsea Crockett- social media proskeep in touch with people and raise awareness for multiple events/causes.  Facebook and Twitter have started becoming more and more inspirational.  Uplifting quotes from popular accounts and celebrities have been hitting the Twitter timeline more frequently and stories that give you faith in humanity again have started popping up all over Facebook timelines.

On the downside, social media has its negatives.  It has taken over the lives of teens all over the world.  It has also become a place to complain and vent about their lives or other people through Facebook statuses.  Unfortunately, it has also been a target for cyberbullying.  Making fun of how someone looks in their pictures has become a nationwide trend causing many teens physical and emotional harm.  If you’re going to use social media, use it to uplift, inspire, and show off your creativity.  Prove to the world who YOU are in a positive light!
