When you outgrow your clothes, or simply get tired of them, there’s plenty of DIY options to give them another use!  Whether it be turning your old t-shirts into a quilt or an old sweater into a scarf, giving them new life is always a fun and creative craft to do when you have the time!  Here are 3 recycle DIYs for your old clothes and accessories. 🙂Chelsea Crockett - DIY Jeans

  • If you have an old pair of jeans that you don’t wear anymore, give them a makeover!  Styles of jeans change so often, so if you have a pair that are out of style, why not trim them up like the picture on the right?  All you have to do is take some chalk to mark the scallops in the right place (you can even use a small Dixie cup to get the right curves).  Then, make the cut!
  • If you have a plain old colored shirt or tank, try out reverse tie dye!  If you know how to tie die, it’s basically using bleach instead of colored dye.  Look up different styles you can make with where you put the rubber bands and go to town!
  • Maxi skirts have gone in and out of style over the past few years.  If you have one that you never wear anymore, you can cut it up to make it into a sundress or a swimsuit cover-up.  Depending on the material, try it out for yourself!

Have you ever tried one of these before?  Let me know below how yours turns out!

I have gobs and gobs of scarves. I just love a cute scarf! When I see one I like I cannot resist snatching it up. I have to get creative when I wear them so that I can make sure they each get a turn. One way? I wear them as a vest! This may sound weird, but trust me, it is cute. Vests are a great way to accessorize and spruce up a boring outfit. Here is how to turn your favorite scarf into a trendy vest in seconds.

  1. Grab your favorite large scarf.vest
  2. Open it up so it is one giant square, and then fold it in half.
  3. Tie 3 corners into a knot. This creates arm holes!
  4. You’re done! You just made a cute vest out

Are you hip with the latest scarf trend? Blanket scarves are my favorite scarf trend yet. They are chunky, cozy, and crazy cute. There are quite a few ways to wear these expansive scarves, and I will highlight a few of my favorites. Here is the 411 on how to rock a blanket scarf.30-blanket-scarves-bloggers

The “normal” way: This is just your average every-day way to wear a scarf. Because blanket scarves are quite a bit thicker than normal scarves, they take a bit getting used to and can be a bit tricky to tie at first, but with a little help from Pinterest you will be a pro blanket scarf wearer in no time!

Belted: I love this way to style blanket scarves because it is classy and unique. Drape your blanket scarf over your shoulders and let the ends of the scarf hang down the front of your body. Next, take a belt and place it over the scarf and secure it around your waist. Now you have a super cute, unique way to stay warm and rock the scarf! This style almost makes the scarf act as a vest. Wear with nice dark jeans and riding boots for a classy look.

As a shawl: In this style you just wear the scarf around your shoulders as a shawl. This is a nice casual way to keep cozy and cute. Wear your scarf-shawl over a simple long-sleeved shirt with jeans and boots!

Now go rock those blanket scarves, ladies! I found a few adorable ones at Charlotte Russe, Just FYI 🙂

Blanket scarves are my new obsession. They are huge, chunky scarves that could literally pass as a blanket. The only problem with my obsession? Blanket scarves are mucho expensive. My favorite one from Zara is 42$! Aint nobody got money for that! So, I used my noggin and came up with a solution to my conundrum. Here is how to make your very own blanket scarf!74295fc6e466b4bab6627ad9c73b6ce3

  1. Purchase 2-2.5 yards of flannel fabric. I got mine at Joanne’s fabric store, but you can sometimes find it at Walmart or any other fabric store!
  2. Using the patterned flannel edge as a guide, trim the edges of each side of your scarf.
  3. Grab the loose threads on the side and pull them down gently, fraying the edges of the scarf. Keep doing this until there are no loose threads and you have a nicely frayed edge. Repeat on each side of the scarf. The frayed edges add a nice rustic flare to the scarf, but if you want a more clean cut look then leave the edges un-frayed.

I cannot wait to make a whole truckload of these babies! Will YOU be trying out this cozy DIY?

What’s better than walking around you house in a big t-shirt and no pants?  Nothing!  Can I get an “amen” girls?!  The second best thing is a t-shirt dress, AKA a long, comfy tee that is actually stylish!  Even better?  It’s totally acceptable to wear almost anywhere!  Check out how to style a t-shirt dress for any occasion!Chelsea Crockett- t-shirt dress

The simplest way to rock a t-shirt dress is to throw it on with sandals and some jewelry for warmer months.  I love adding a scarf and hat to bring more to the outfit.  This is perfect for a lunch date or shopping.  It’s even comfy enough to wear around the house, not to mention it’s super cute too!  Once it starts getting cooler, a long-sleeved t-shirt dress is the way to go!  Try it with a pair of boots and a quilted vest.  You can always dress it up with flats or wedges and a cardigan.

Accessories are the key to dressing your t-shirt dress up or down.  The more accessories you add, jewelry, purse, type of shoes, hats/headbands, the dressier your outfit will become!  Experiment with different colors, patterns, and accessories.  The possibilities are endless with styling your dress!  Comment below if you own a t-shirt dress and what’s your favorite way to end it.

If you live in or have ever visited the east coast, then you know what the nautical look is!  Cape Cod, famous for its nautical atmosphere, is buzzing with this style!  Sailor shorts, stripes, anchors, and colors of the sea are all part of the look!  Even if you don’t live in that part of the country, that’s okay!  Check out how you can bring the nautical style to your closet!Chelsea Crockett- nautical looks

The stripe is the first and foremost most important part of going nautical.  Whether it’s a striped dress, shirt, or shorts, this pattern must be incorporated into your outfit.  One of my favorite ways to wear stripes is to pair a navy striped shirt with white or red shorts.  These colors scream nautical and it’s the simplest way to obtain the look!  If you want to try something bolder, grab a pair of sailor shorts and pair it with an open button up or striped tee.  Looking effortless is what it’s all about!

An open scarf and fedora hat are also key pieces.  Try a pair of white skinny jeans paired with a red, navy, or yellow top.  Complete the look by throwing on a fedora and a scarf draped around your neck.  Keep the colors neutral or, once again, try stripes.

The nautical look, with a few key pieces, is easy to obtain!  Shock all of your friends this summer with an effortless, nautical ensemble!

It’s a proven fact: between food, lifestyle, and fashion, French women have got it right!  With their effortless, yet put together style, the French have got the fashion scene covered.  Although many of us may not live in France, that doesn’t mean we can’t bring their cool, casual style to our country!  Check out how to have your own chic, French-inspired look!Chelsea Crockett- French Street Style

Start with the minimum and then add accessories as you go.  Try a pastel colored sundress with a pair of Mary Jane flats or some boyfriend jeans, a sheer button up and bralette, and a pair of light colored sneakers.  Of course you can always up your look by adding a pair of pointed toe heels.  Next, add a colorful printed scarf and chic handbag.  To complete your look, throw on a pair of cat-eyed sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat!

Try looking up pictures of French street style to complete your own outfit!  Good luck completing the perfect French outfit, or as the French would say bon chance!

I have been reading the comments on some of my articles lately and have gotten a ton of requests for a tutorial on how to make a diy t-shirt scarf! Well, my beautiful Insiders, it is your lucky day! Introducing, how to make a perfect t-shirt scarf!

All you will need is a t-shirt of your choice and a pair of sharp scissors! The only thing I suggest when it comes to t-shirt choice is that you choose a shirt that doesn’t have a lot of designs on it. The more designs or logos on it, the less uniform and put-together your scarf will look.

 1.   Lay out your shirt on a flat surface.

2. Cut off the bottom hem of your shirt, and then start cutting horizontal strips about ½ inch wide. Cut these strips all the way up the shirt until you reach the armpits.

3. Once you have cut the strips, take about three of them at a time and stretch them out. Once you have stretched out all of your strips, you are done with your scarf! How easy was that?! Just drape the loops around your neck and pair them with any solid shirt, like the picture below!

When people ask you “Where did you get that adorable scarf?!” you can tell them that you made it! They will be so impressed with you!

Spring can be a confusing season, since it can be a mix between summer and winter weather.  As the cool winter air turns into the crisp spring weather, layering is an important art to master in the fashion world.  It’s an easy way to be able to break out some of your warm-weathered clothing without freezing in the cool March temperatures.  Check out my simple ways toChelsea Crockett- spring layering layer in the spring.

The #1 tip to layering is to keep the bulk to a minimum.  It’s easy to throw on an abundance of clothing, but the outcome may not be flattering.  Keep your base outfit form-fitting.  A blazer is a great way to add warmth to an outfit without making the outfit look bulky.  It can be paired with a simple dress or jeans and a tee/button-up.  The same goes for a vest.  If you want to wear one of your favorite dresses, but the weather might be too cold for it, don’t worry!  Try pairing your dress with a jean jacket and light, silk scarf.  If it’s too chilly to wear sandals, opt for a pair of flats or knee high riding boots to complete your look.  If it’s too chilly to wear your favorite spring button up, try throwing on a crewneck sweater over the shirt, pulling out the collar and rolling up the sleeves.  Make sure to wear bright colors to really capture the essence of spring!

Layering is so important, especially during the months of crisp, cool weather.  Experiment with your clothing, and soon enough, you’ll be a layering expert!

Now we all know that scarves are a great accessory to go around your neck.  Whether it’s to keep you warm or dress up a look, a scarf is an item that every girl must own!  One of the greatest things about scarves is that they have more than one purpose.  I’m going to break down some creative ways to wear your scarf…..the possibilities are endless!

Chelsea Crockett- braid scarfWho would’ve thought that a scarf would be a great hair accessory?  Start by putting the scarf around your head and tie it behind your hair.  Pull all of your hair, including the left over strands of the scarf, to one side.  Start braiding your hair into a long braid, incorporating the ends of the scarf into your braid.  This will add a pretty pop of color in your long, beautiful braid!  It’s such a fun way to brighten any look.

Another unique way to wear a scarf is to turn it into a bracelet.  If you have three small square scarves, lay them all side by side and tie all three together at the end.  Start braiding the three scarves together until the braid is complete.  You could even braid in a strand of “bling”!  Tie it around your wrist and there you go!  It’s that simple!   Hope you’ll try out these two different ways to wear a scarf.  Show off your creation to your friends!Chelsea Crockett- Scarf Bracelets

I adore scarves. There is nothing better than a stylish scarf to top off any ensemble! The only problem with them? They are a pain to store! Well, not anymore! I have a handy dandy tip to help make storing your stylish scarves a breeze!

What you will need:

 –          Your favorite scarves

011edit

–          Some hangers

–          Shower curtain rings

That is all you will need! Just take the plastic shower curtain rings and hook them around the bottom of the hanger. Then, loop your scarf through the ring! Easy peasy! You can fit about 6/7 scarves on 1 hanger, so if you are a scarf hog like me and have more than 7, just make another hanger! These handy scarf hangers are great because they fit easily inside your closet or on a hook on the wall, and they are so so cheap to make!

If being more organized was on your list of New Year’s resolutions, then this is a great place to start!

Hi Girls,

Infinity scarves are one of the most popular cold weathered accessories this year.  They not only keep you warm, but they are extremely stylish.  One of the best parts about the infinity scarf is they can be worn causally or dressy and are extremely easy to put on.  I’ll give you the full low down on how to wear an infinity scarf.

One of my favorite ways to wear an infinity scarf is to style it with an over-sized sweater.  I love to simply wrap the scarf around twice creating a thick scarf around the neck.  Even throwing it on with an army jacket and combat boots adds a soft touch to a rather edgy outfit.  Not to mention they are very comfortable and warm.  If you like wearing your scarf a more traditional way, place the scarf on each shoulder and pull one side through the other.  This is how you would wear a regular scarf. Chelsea Crockett- infinity scarf

Picking the right color and/or print is also very important.  If you are wearing a dark outfit, keep your infinity scarf a dark jewel toned or black color.  Although the scarf is cute, you don’t want it to be the main focus of our outfit.  If you’re picking a printed scarf, then keep your outfit to solid colors only.  This allows the scarf to be the main focus, plus you don’t want to mix prints.  Make sure to add infinity scarves to your everyday winter wardrobe.  You will get constant compliments!

XOXO,

Hi Lovelies,

So I’m sure that many of you have school uniforms, especially if you go to a private school.  Even public schools have restrictions on what you can wear.  Sometimes it can be hard to show your individuality and express yourself through your fashion and style in a school setting.  I’ll give you a quick guide to bring your own style to school, without breaking dress code.

  • Have fun school accessories!  A fun backpack is a stylish way to carry your books.  Pick up a fun colored or printed backpack, like cheetah and carry your books in style!  It’ll also add a pop of color to even the dullest outfit.
  • Throw on an awesome pair of shoes!  Sandals and boots are my favorite shoes around.  They come in every style and color and some are even “blinged” out.  Everyone will be impressed with your new kicks!
  • Bling yourself out!  Don’t be afraid to throw on a pretty necklace and some crazy earrings to dress up your dull school uniform.  You canChelsea Crockett- backpack never go wrong with jewelry!

Throwing on a scarf can add a pop of color too!

I hope this little guide will help you bring your own individual style to a school uniform.  Remember, don’t break school code, but have fun with your style!
