It’s that time of year.  School is once again in session!  Of course most of us dread it but the reality is…we have to do it!  So I’ve decided to put a few things together to help us all be successful. (My mom’s a teacher and believe it or not…..I’ve asked her opinion!)

One thing that is so important is for students to try to get to know their teachers.  Teachers can be very busy and have a lot of students on their rosters.  Most teachers, however, really want to get to know their students and what is going on in their lives.  It’ll help you and your teachers communicate a lot better!

Another tip is to take good notes and write things down in your agenda or notebook.  It’s super helpful to have notes in front of you as a reminder.  It’s hard to try to remember everything after switching from subject to subject.  Jot down homework assignments, notes to return, supplies you might need, anything you may need to tell your parents, etc. Being organized pays off! Chelsea Crockett - Planner

Lastly, get a good night’s sleep and eat a good breakfast.  Don’t spend all night on your phone with your friends. Put your phone/laptop away by 10pm and go to sleep!  It’s really hard to function throughout the day without catching some ZZZ’s.  Your mind will be sharper and your body will be well rested for the long day ahead of you!

XOXO, Chelsea

Easy Tips for Catching Some ZZZ’s

Don’t get me wrong, summer is the best time of the year, but some of us teens get into the routine of staying up late at night… or even into the early hours of the morning! It may not affect us when we’re out of school and sleeping in through lunch, but during the school year it hits us like a ton of bricks! If you’re one of those people stuck in the exhausting routine, here are a few tips on breaking the habit!

  • Try drinking a glass of Sleepy Time tea. For some people, this tea is a miracle worker! If you start drinking a cup an hour or so before you hit the hay, you’ll feel calm and will hopefully doze off right away.Chelsea Crockett - Sleepytime Tea
  • Put your phone far away from you or in a different room. This may be the last thing you want to do, but I promise it works! 90% of the time you’re up after midnight is because your phone has too many easy distractions.
  • Use lavender! Lavender’s scent is known for relaxing and relieving stress. Purchase a lavender scented candle and let it burn for a while before you go to bed. Let it fill your room while it releases your stress, too!
  • Simply relax! Oftentimes you may find yourself getting frustrated and giving up on falling asleep early. DON’T! If you lay in bed and focus your mind on other things, it’ll help make you sleepy and you’ll eventually doze off.

So next time you’re having trouble catching some ZZZ’s, try out a couple of these steps and you’ll hopefully make it through the day without sleeping through class :)!

School can be such a drag. Between juggling homework, practices, and a job, life can get pretty tough and oftentimes extremely tiring. Staying motivated becomes harder and harder and procrastination usually starts to set in! For those of you who find yourself slacking and out of energy, here is a little guide I put together to help you out :)!

First things first, make sure you have the basics down. Get enough sleep (8 hours), eat healthy, exercise… These are all things that will give you a little more energy to get through the day. Apart from the simple things, be sure to reward yourself.Chelsea Crockett - Rewarding Yourself Working and getting things done is 10x harder if you don’t have anything to look forward to. Goal-setting is a perfect way to organize your tasks. If you complete a goal, reward yourself! Whether it’s with a piece of chocolate or a night out with your friends, it’ll help push you to checking off your goal!

The next step is probably the most important. As teenagers, we have SO many distractions… phones, friends, TV, etc. Get rid of them for a little! Trying to do everything at once isn’t possible. If you try, you’ll overwork yourself which leads to discouragement.

Have a good mindset and stay positive! – Chels

Simple Tips for Becoming a Morning Person

Do you ever catch yourself pressing the snooze button over and over again in the mornings? Or maybe you have to drink 3 cups of coffee before you even think about leaving the house! If you fall into either category, you could probably use a few tips on how you can make mornings a little less miserable!

  • Take a cold shower. If you’ve tried this before, you know how well it works! After being warm and cozy in bed, nothing can wake you up better than a cold shower.
  • Go for a jog. Exercising as soon as you get up is not only good for your body, but good for giving you a little extra energy for the day! Plus, knowing that you’ve completed a good work out can help motivate you for other tasks throughout the day!Chelsea Crockett - Morning Runs
  • Go outside. Sitting inside a dark room under your covers isn’t going to help you wake up. Try being in the sun or going into a room that won’t tempt you to doze off.
  • Have a good attitude. Now I’m not saying you’re going to suddenly wake up one day and be super happy about it… But starting your day off with a positive mindset is a baby step. I know how boring school can be, but think to yourself that it’s going to be a great day and it might just be!

If you’re already a morning person, share your secrets below!

Love ya! – Chelsea

Beat the Back to School Blues

Between sleeping in, endless days spent with friends, and family vacations, going back to school can be a real drag…not to mention a nightmare for some kids!  Although the start of a new school year is something most kids and teens don’t look forward to, there are a few ways to beat the back to school blues. Chelsea Crockett- friends at school

A positive attitude is everything!  When you constantly tell yourself how much you hate school, you’ll soon start to believe it!  Instead, think of school as a time to see your friends and a chance to learn something new.  Don’t spend your last days of summer in “depression”; instead soak in those last few days!

New teachers and classes can also cause anxiety.  Instead of worrying about the unknown, compare your class schedule with friends.  This way, you’ll know which friends are in your classes.  This always makes my mind at ease, because I know I have someone to walk to class with or work on homework with.

Look at a new school year as a new opportunity and fresh start.  If you were disappointed in yourself last year, then challenge yourself to make changes.  Make new friends, join a few clubs, get your grades up, and work harder than ever before.  School is how you make it!

XOXO,

Chelsea

School supplies are soooooo boring!  I’d have to say, the standard notebook isn’t very appealing to the eye.  If you aren’t able to buy binders, folders, and notebooks in multiple colors, it can be tough to tell your classes apart.  Instead of using a black sharpie to designate a folder to each class, try personalizing it with a few of these crafty tips!Chelsea Crockett- personalized school supplies

  1. Create a backdrop for binders! Using a binder with a clear pocket on the front, print off a piece of paper with a fun design and font with your name and class on it and slide it in the pocket. Now you’ve got a one-of-a-kind binder!
  2. Grab some stickers! Sticker letters are a fun way to label school supplies without being boring. Try labeling your notebook in glitter or neon letters to add a little fun to your supplies.
  3. If you want to get extra crafty, try buying small decals of your first initial. You can use these to wrap around pencils, highlighters, and pens!

Comment below if you have any great ideas for personalized school supplies!  It’s an easy way to make going back to school a little more exciting!

Organization is the key to a stress-free work and school environment.  Too many people have papers flying everywhere, dates not written down, and a busy schedule.  It’s important to live an organized life in order to get things done without a hassle.  If you follow these simple organizational tips, I promise your life will be a breeze!Chelsea Crockett- organization

  • Keep a planner or use your calendar app!  Write down anything and everything that is important, an event, or something that is due.  Deadlines are important!
  • Give yourself a break!  If you work too much you will start to go crazy!  Give yourself a 10 minute break each hour to surf the web, talk to friends, or grab a snack!
  • Establish a junk drawer!  Everyone has those papers, supplies, and random things that they have no idea what to do with.  If you have one solid area that you store all of that, then they won’t end up all over your desk!
  • DO NOT procrastinate.  This is the number one reason people get stressed out and unorganized.  Do your assignments or projects as they are assigned to you so you can focus on one thing at a time.
  • Make your work space pretty!  When you have a work space that you are proud of, you are less likely to get it messy.

Staying organized is important for the road to success.  It’s also important for your sanity.  Keep it all together and you’ll start to see a difference!

Use the site resteraunt.com to buy giftchelsea crockett homecoming cards for less than they are worth, for 10$ you can get a card worth 25$! Holy moly! And if you have a big group, you can get a 40$ card worth 100$!! If you all chip in, it will be super cheap.
  2. Hair: Instead of spending more than 50$ on an updoo, have a friend do your hair! If you have a girl friend that loves doing hair and is talented at it, she will be honored that you want her to do your hair!
  3. Pictures: If your parents or someone in your group’s parents have a nice camera, have them take your prom photos instead of spending money on a photographer! My dad takes my group’s pictures every year. He loves it! DaddyLiciousInsider!

Say “No” To Peer Pressure

            Hey insiders!

Peer pressure gets to all of us.  Whether you’re in middle school, high school, or even in your adult years, we’re all tempted in different ways and forms.  It’s not fun or easy, but there are many ways to resist it.Chelsea Crockett - Peer Pressure

  • Stand your ground.  All of us have a set of rules and values for ourselves that we try to follow as much as possible.  If anyone tries to change those values, stand your ground.  Learn how to say no and follow your gut on what’s right.
  • Choose your friends wisely.  It’s easier to avoid peer pressure when you’re surrounded by good people that share the same values as you.  This way you won’t have to worry about them tempting you into doing something you’re not comfortable with.
  • Be confident.  Go into the situation with a mindset of “no one will change who I am or what I believe.”  Once you have a secure mindset, you’ll be a lot stronger and more confident in walking away.
  • Think of the consequences.  Is the situation really worth the consequences?  Think very carefully about what you do before you do it.  Bad decisions can weigh on you and carry a big amount of guilt.

Although there are more ways to resist peer pressure, I find these four the most effective.  Remember, “To be popular isn’t always right and to be right isn’t always popular.”

My Finals Survival Gide!

It is middle March…You know what that means? Finals are coming!! Finals can be mentally and physically exhausting, so it is really important that you are prepared! Here is Chelsea Crockett’s Finals Survival Guide!

1. Eat a healthy breakfast.

If your stomach is grumbling like a wild banchee in the middle of your finals, not only will it distract you, your brain cannot function as well when it is not fueled! By eating a nutritious breakfast that will fill you up and keep you full all day, like oatmeal and toast and fruit, you are keeping your brain alert and allowing yourself to stay alert during your finals!

2. Don’t cram!chelsea crockett

Cramming right before you take a test is a recipe for disaster. Not only are you totally jumbling and overwhelming yourself, you are also overloading your brain, which can make you forget things that you have already studied! The best thing to do is to study a little bit each day before the final. It is a proven fact that if you study a bit each day, you remember the information soooo much better compared to when you cram!

3. Dress for the occasion.

I know that it is the norm to dress like a hobo for finals, and I am totally guilty of doing it! The only problem with it is that when you dress dumpy, you usually FEEL dumpy. Dress comfortable, but cute! You don’t want to wear your tightest jeans and lowest cut shirt on finals days because you are probably NOT super cozy in that getup. I suggest wearing a cozy pair of leggings and pairing them with a cute sweater and scarf. Cute but cozy! Also, you can keep your makeup light so that you don’t feel oily or uncomfortable during your tests.

Good luck Insiders! May the odds be ever in your favor.

XOXO, Chels

Hey insiders!  When it comes to joining a new school, I think of nerves and wanting to fit in.  Some of you may have moved to a new state and already have butterflies about the first day of class.  Others could be transitioning into high school or junior high.  Whatever it is, we all have those first-day-of-school nerves that we just can’t shake off!  Here are a few tips to help calm you down.Chelsea Crockett - School

#1: Be yourself!  When it comes to making new friends, being yourself is the perfect way to find a group of friends that fit you.  This way you can have fun without trying to be someone you’re not.

#2: Join clubs!  Whether it’s a volleyball or art club, you’ll be sure to find people with the same interests as you!  You’ll also have a fun time while doing it!

#3: Don’t get into the wrong crowd!  If you ever feel yourself uncomfortable with your new group of friends, don’t feel the need to stay with it.  Peer pressure is an awful thing and it’s easier to get out in the beginning than trying to use the same excuses over and over again.

Joining a new school is not as nearly as bad as everyone thinks!  With these tips, there’s no need to be nervous.  Just be yourself and have fun!

Back to School: Ways to Organize Your Locker

Hey everyone!  We don’t want to accept it, but school is coming up faster than we think.  Staying organized is one of the biggest things we need to do to succeed throughout the year.  Whether you’re in high school or grade school, you will most likely have a locker to be responsible for keeping it clean and organized.

Chelsea Crockett - LockerFirst off, dividing and keeping your books in a certain spot each day is a good way to quickly know which book to grab before class.  Buying locker shelves or dividers are perfect for organizing your books, binders, and notebooks.  Click here to check out Amazon’s selection of locker accessories!  To help remember which books are which, try organizing them alphabetically, by color, or in order of your classes.  This will help you easily remember which books to throw in your backpack before class.

Another fun tip is to keep a small whiteboard on the side of your locker.  This way you can write notes, reminders, and needed homework for the next day or for what to take home.  Every once and a while remember to take out any old and unneeded homework or papers.  A cluttered locker leads to an unorganized one!

Hope this makes going back to school a little easier!
