Usually when we need to shave our legs, we simply like to get the job done.  But there’s certain things that we can do to make our legs smoother, more hydrated, and better shaved!  Here are a few tips and tricks that will make you think twice about how you’ve been shaving your legs!

Before: With shaving, it’s all about making your legs as smooth as possible.  The day before (or at least before you shave), use a scrub to exfoliate.  Chelsea Crockett - Vaseline LotionThis will clear out any dead skin and leave your skin smooth for a gentle, clean shave!

During:  Before jumping in and shaving right away, wait toward the end of the shower.  The heat and moisture will loosen up your pores and allow for a better shave!  Although this may be obvious, make sure you’re shaving in the opposite direction of your hair.  Also, a gel or foam is the best product to use to prevent dryness, rashes, or razor burns!

After:  Especially when you shave, you’ll need to moisturize and hydrate your skin.  Try using a lotion that isn’t overly perfumed or includes a ton of alcohol like the one on the left.  This way you can make sure your legs are getting all the hydration they need!

If you’re not following these pointers, then I urge you to do so!  They really do make a difference!

Shaving is a pain for many reasons. Not only is it annoying because of how often you have to do it, but also how long it takes each time. And trying to save time and shave fast by running your razor over your legs quickly can only result in irritated skin and cuts. Here are a few things you can do to reduce the time it takes to shave so that you have more time for things you actually WANT to do.k2-_41eb30ee-5a08-4738-8f39-85ba7db68b2d.v1

  1. Use a razor with built-in shaving cream. This allows you to skip the “shaving cream” step of the shave. All you need is water and you are all set.
  2. Prep your skin: Exfoliate in between shaves. Exfoliate, then wait a few days to shave. Your shave will feel way faster when you have scrubbed all of the dead skin off of your legs, and exfoliating preps your skin for a closer shave.
  3. Use less shaving cream: Always use shaving cream because it prevents cuts and nicks, but only use a thin layer. Having too much shaving cream on your legs slows you down by clogging the blades!

Shaving doesn’t have to be an annoyance! Just follow these tips to help speed up the process.

  1. Round up the right razor: Finding the right razor is the first step in getting your perfect shave. The perfect razor has more blades, which means less going over the same spot over and over.
  2. Shorter strokes: When it comes to shaving, the shorter the strokes the best results.
  3. Worth the wait: It is best to wait until then end of your shower to shave your legs. The steam and heat of the water help soften your hair which helps make shaving a breeze.

Girls can all agree on one thing… shaving. It’s a pain and we don’t want to do it! Besides the time it takes every couple of days, potential cuts and burns are bad enough. There are not only ways to prevent these burns but ways to soothe them as well. Here are a few to help you out!Chelsea Crockett - Honey

  • One of the most common ways to soothe your burns is with cold compresses like an ice pack. This will tone down the inflammation and help cool off your burn.
  • Aloe Vera not only helps sunburns but razor burns as well! It might not be the first thing you think of when you step out of the shower, but it’s soothing and promotes healing!
  • Have you ever considered honey? Applying some honey to your burn actually helps bring down swelling and alleviate any pain. Who knew :)?
  • Old fashion remedies are often the best! So… try out the traditional baking soda trick. It’ll help bring down any redness on your skin. (Also, if you burn starts to itch, you can mix together some baking soda and water then apply it to your skin with a cotton ball or washcloth!)
  • Cucumber! Ever wonder why you put this on your eyes during a facial? It rejuvenates skin and helps moisturize it! Rub a few slices of cucumber on your burn and feel its magic.

Although these are a few of my favorite remedies, you probably have a few of your own! Share your secrets down below :)!

Beauty Myths Busted!

I’m sure many of you have heard some ridiculous beauty statements that either seem too good to be true or completely false!  It can be hard to decide whether or not these beauty myths are true.  Let’s break them down and get to the facts!Chelsea Crockett- washing hair

  1. “Washing your hair every day is bad for it.”  MOSTLY FALSE.  If you have oily hair, it is understandable to wash your hair every day.  It won’t do any harm to it.  If your hair is coarse or dry, you may want to wash your hair every other day.  Shampoo can dry out hair, so you don’t want to make your hair dryer than it already is.
  2. “Hair grows back thicker after you shave it.”  FALSE.  Whenever we shave our leg hair, it cuts through the middle of the hair creating a straight line.  This creates the illusion of thicker leg hair even though it’s the same size and same color.  Nothing is different!
  3. “Putting makeup on zits makes them worse.”  TRUE.  If you’re trying to cover up a pesky zit with an oil based or heavy cream concealer, you’re probably going to make it worse!  When you pack on the makeup your pores cannot breathe, therefore collecting more dirt.  Try covering it up with a light powder or go all natural!
  4. “Split ends can be repaired.”  Unfortunately, FALSE.  There are many hair care products out today claiming they can repair split ends.  Well, I’m sad to report that these beauty brands are telling you tales.  The only true way to banish split ends is to cut them off!
  5. “Chocolate, pizza, and French fries will give me zits!”  FALSE.  Indulging in greasy food every once in a while will do no harm.  It’s your regular diet that will determine whether or not you have nice skin.  If your entire diet consists of chocolate, pizza, and French fries, then it’s very possible that you will have acne.  Enjoy these types of food minimally.

BOOM, busted!!  Now you know the truth about these tricky beauty myths!

Love,

Many girls don’t think about the best way to attack hair removal, they just want the hair gone and off their body! Nowadays, with the technology we have, there are hundreds of products that guarantee hair loss and smooth skin. But do these products compete with shaving or waxing? Here are a few pros and cons for all of the above!

  1. Shaving. Shaving is obviously the cheapest and easiest way to remove hair. You can do it yourself in almost no time at all! It’s pain free, although you may accidentally nick your leg. The only negative to shaving is the stubbles that form only a day or so after use (and the occasional cut to the knee). Shaving is most recommended for the legs and underarms. Never shave any parts of your face such as the upper lip, eyebrows, or chin.
  2. Waxing. Waxing can be done anywhere on your body. Along with that positive, waxing takes all the hair off and leaves your skin feeling extremely smooth. Chelsea Crockett - WaxingThe pain is usually pretty high if you don’t wax often, so going straight to waxing your legs isn’t the best idea. I suggest simply waxing your eyebrows or upper lips. Although it costs more than shaving, it definitely takes care of the job.
  3. Laser Hair Removal. This one can be tricky. Laser hair removal costs a lot more than waxing or shaving and works best on dark haired people. It is not as painful as waxing, but is still painful nonetheless. This definitely would not be my first suggestion especially since us teens are still so young! Although there are many cons, this type of removal takes care of the hair and keeps it away for longer amounts of time.

Let me know what you use below!

Ladies ladies ladies…No shave November may be underway, so razor bumps aren’t a huge issue at the moment. Although they are not top priority at the moment, it is always good to know how to avoid those obnoxious, annoying bumps for good. Here are some tips on how to prevent razor bumps!

-Don’t shave every day

Don’t shave so often. Let your hair grow out a bit before shaving it again. Give your bumps time to heal and use the razor every other day at the most.

Shave under the warm shower and rinse off with cold water

Warm water will soften your hairs and make your skin less prone to irritation. When you are done shaving, cold water will close up the pores, which prevents infection and irritation.

-Use a shaving cream

Chelsea crockett shaving cream

Shaving cream will moisturize your skin as well as soften your hairs, making them easier to shave. Bumps appear more easily when your skin is dry and prone to irritation. Also, moisturize after you shave because it will reduce redness and irritation and decrease the probability of you getting razor bumps.

-Always use new and sharp razors

Dull razors will irritate the skin around the hair follicle and cause ingrown hairs.  Old and rusty blades can also carry  tons of bacteria, which can be transferred to the skin during shaving. This will not help your existing razor bumps to heal! If you don’t have a new blade, always use alcohol to clean your razor.
