5 Things to Know Before You Cut Your Hair

If you have been with me for a while, then you know I used to have loooooong hair. My sister Kylie has beautiful long locks right now and I catch myself wishing I had mine back! Although I sometimes reminisce about the times when I had long locks, I really dig my shorter ‘do.  Sometimes having long hair was such a hassle, and was very hard to maintain. Cutting your hair short means a fresh start and a totally new look, and one look that is really in right now is the long bob haircut, but before you go cutting off your tresses and taking the short hair plunge there are a few things you need to consider!

Styling tools switch: The tools you use to style your long hair may not be ideal with your short hair. Big barreled curling irons usually get the boot and smaller thinner irons and straighteners will take their place. The smaller tools allow you to have better control of your shorter ‘do.FullSizeRender (4)

Style time: Shorter hair takes less time to style, which is a total bonus! You won’t have to wake up as early in the morning to style it and it takes less time to dry than longer hair does.

Hair heaviness: Shorter hair has less weight to it than longer hair. This means that if you have natural curls or waves, they will be tighter with short hair. I think that this is a plus because when you get out of the shower all you have to do is work a little product into your hair and you can let your hair go natural!

Saves money: Shorter hair= less shampoo and hair products!

It is drastic: Lots of girls have an emotional attachment to their hair (myself included) so the thought of chopping off your hair can be frightening. But, just remember, it WILL grow back! Buuuuuut..it will not grow back overnight. It takes minutes to cut your hair, but months to grow it all back. It is quite a commitment!

So, before you decide to board the “short hair train” give it a bit of thought!

How To: The Half-Bun

There aren’t many hairstyles that can be both cute AND practical. Fortunately, buns can do just that. Recently I discovered the half bun, and my life is changed. Okay, maybe I am being a little dramatic, but I really love this hair style. It looks good during the day, on a night out, anywhere! Move over sock bun, half buns are the new craze! Here is how to make them work for any hair type and length:main.original.585x0

Short hair: If you have a “lob” or short hair you can make this bun work. Take a section of hair from each temple and pull your hair into a half-up high ponytail. After securing your hair with an elastic create a baby bun by bobby pinning sections of the ponytail around the hair tie.

Long hair: First you need to tie the top half of your hair up in a ponytail, much like the short haired ladies did. Make sure the pony is tight, but go back and gently tug the hair on top to give your crown a bit of volume. Tease the tail near the base to give your bun a fuller look. Twist your pony around the base of the elastic, secure it with bobby pins, and then adjust it to the shape you want.

Thin hair: For my thin haired ladies, putting half of your hair in a pony may sound like a bad bad idea. We can make it work! Curl your hair into loose waves, add some dry shampoo along your roots, and tease the sections of hair you will be putting in the bun. Pull your textured tresses into a half bun and secure!

Hard-to-style hair: If your hair has trouble holding any kind of style, work some texturizing powder through your strands to give it some grip. Make a tuck bun by pulling your hair through a hair tie twice and only pulling it halfway through the 3rd time. Leave the ends out for a texured look, and wrap the ends around the hair tie and secure for a more finished look!

Thanks to Cosmopolitan for the great half bun styling ideas! I love seeing how this hairstyle can work for every hair type, don’t you?

Hi Girls,

Celebrities are known for doing crazy things!  Whether it’s making headlines for a scandalous movie role or debuting a new look, celebrities are always in the news!  Lately, crazy hair trends and dramatic hair changes have been all the buzz in Hollywood.  I’ll break down Chelsea Crockett- colored hairsome of the craziest celebrity hair dos and hair trends around!

Celebrities like Katy Perry are notorious for bright colored hair.  You never know what hair color is going to make its way down the red carpet.  I don’t recommend dying your beautiful hair to green, blue, or purple.  Plus, it’s terrible damage to your hair!  Another crazy hair trend is Bohemian braids.  This is when one side of your hair is tightly braided while theChelsea Crockett- short hair other side is down.  Kind of crazy looking!

Miley Cyrus has been in the headlines for her dramatic hair change.  Her beautiful brown hair is no more!  Celebs, like Miley, have been chopping their hair off for a more “edgy” look.  How could you cut such beautiful hair?!  It’s fun to see all of these looks come to life in magazines and on the big screen, but not realistic.  Keep your pretty natural hair! Kiss

Love,

       Chelsea
