Vitamins do not only have certain health benefits such as boosting your immune system or providing energy; but, they also help in improving your skin.  Many of the vitamins you take in daily are doing wonders for your skin and you don’t even know it!  I’m here to bring these benefits to your attention so you can make sure you’re getting what you need for flawless skin!

  1. Vitamin A.  This one applies mostly for adults, but is still beneficial for us teens!  Vitamin A helps reduce the wrinkles on your face.  It also helps diminish acne and replenish dry skin, as well!
  2. Vitamin B.  You can’t go wrong with a cream or lotion that contains vitamin B as an ingredient.  It helps moisturize your pores and reduce irritation… what more could you ask for?
  3. Vitamin C.  This one will be useful for the sunny seasons coming up!  Besides the obvious fact that it boosts your immune system, vitamin C helps reduce the amount of sun damage on your skin.  Chelsea Crockett - TanningIf you can’t beat the heat, vitamin C also helps repair your sunburnt skin tissue :).
  4. Vitamin E.  This is also perfect for the summery months ahead!  This can help reduce the effects of the sun on your skin; so, don’t be afraid to lay out on the beach for a couple of hours :).  Eating foods high in Vitamin E works to prevent early aging, as well.
  5. Vitamin K.  This vitamin is perfect to brighten up your eyes.  It’s known for reducing those unwanted dark circles.

Good luck! – Chelsea

Girls, we all agree our lives get tough sometimes.  Between bad hair days and smeared mascara, we have seen it all!  Here are a few “under the radar” beauty tips that most girls don’t know about!

If you are one of those people that prefer morning showers than night, I’m going to guess you have had that 20 second blow dry that doesn’t quite do the trick.  I suggest setting apart three minutes of your morning and dry the necessary parts of your hair: the front and top.  If you can settle down the fizziness around your scalp and the outline of your face, you will look 100x more finished then those “20 second blow dry” days!

Chelsea Crockett - Plump LipsPlump lips are the dream of any girl, and I know just the secret to getting them.  Before adding your favorite lip gloss, add a little dab of white eye shadow in the crease above your upper lip.  Sounds a little weird, I know, but this tip actually works!  Try it out for yourself!

Dry skin is another struggle we all go through.  There is nothing better than a warm shower, I totally understand, but don’t be afraid to take a cool shower every once and a while!  When we take hot showers, we instantly get out into the cold air of our bathroom which leads to dry skin.  Don’t forget to apply your favorite lotion afterwards :)!

Hope these tips help you lovely ladies out! – Chels

For those of you that don’t know, honey is a cheap and excellent start for a recipe for healthy skin.  You may think of it as only an ingredient, but now you can put it to other uses!

Besides its great taste, honey has a wide variety of vitamins and minerals that soothes and hydrates your skin.  Along with moisturizing, honey also helps remove acne and other skin blemishesChelsea Crockett - Honey.  Putting it into action can be done easily at home.  Homemade recipes such as honey masks, lotions, and even hair products are easy to make and results are easy to get.  If you plan on whipping up your own creation, make sure you use raw, natural honey.  This will promote new tissue growth and help exfoliate your skin.  After washing off your honey, a small amount of it still remains in your pores, attracting moisture from the air and leaving your skin hydrated and fresh.  One neat thing about honey is you don’t need to mix it with anything!  Using a teaspoon of raw, natural honey and spreading it on your face will do the job.  Leave it on for as little as 10 minutes or as much as an hour.  After that, just rinse it off with warm water.  It should come off real easily and allow you to have beautiful, glowing skin.

Many natural substances can benefit your body and can be found in items you never would’ve guessed!  Honey is the new “buzz” for flawless and fresh skin!

Blackheads are the worst. They are persistent little buggers, because no matter how much we poke pinch and squeeze at them, they never seem to disappear. As it turns out, there are a few things that you may not know about these little devils that could help you treat them and prevent them from showing their ugly little faces:

  1. What blackheads actually are: Blackheads are open comedomes that are really just widened hair follicles that are filled with bacteria, skin debris, and sebum oil. Ew.34772427
  2. What is causing them?: Blackheads are generally caused by the overproduction of oil, so all of my oily skinned Insider should gear towards oil-free makeup and lotions to be on the safe side.
  3. What is a DIY blackhead treatment? There are plenty of cheap blackhead busting DIYs out there, and I have written about a few! Here is a quick one: mix some baking soda with apple cider vinegar to create a paste and gently scrub the blackheads away.
  4. Don’t wash your face too much: Sounds a little weird, right? Washing your face is great, but try not to go overboard. Cleanse your face once or twice a week, but no more than that because your face can dry out and become irritated.

So, did you learn any more about those pesky black heads? Hopefully you can use this info to help prevent and treat your blackheads!

Having clear, healthy skin is an automatic self-esteem booster!  Unfortunately, maintaining clear skin can be a challenge.  It’s almost impossible to keep zits off our faces!!  Luckily, there are things you can do in your everyday life to keep pimples away and clear skin in the forefront.

  1. Establish a daily morning and night routine. This routine should consist of a complete face wash followed with moisturizer.
  2. Keep greasy, oily foods to a minimum. Your skin reacts by producing zits when you consume these types of foods.
  3. Make sure to get 7-8 hours of sleep every night! “Beauty rest” is the real deal!
  4. Try incorporating healthy skin foods into your diet like fish, avocados, pomegranates, and tomatoes.Chelsea Crockett- eat healthy for your skin
  5. Go without makeup! Whenever you’re having a lazy day, take a break from makeup and never wear it to sleep. Your skin needs to breathe every once in a while.
  6. Try not to touch your face. Your hands carry dirt and oil that should stay off your face!
  7. Always wear sunscreen. This will keep your skin looking youthful longer.
  8. Exfoliate a few times a week! Your skin needs a good deep cleaning every so often.
  9. Never over wash or over moisturize your face. Your skin creates natural oils that are healthy for the skin. If you are constantly washing them off, then your skin will react by creating more oil. Yuck!

If you live by these skin conscious rules, then you’ll be on the right track to clear, healthy skin all the time!

Face primers can be hard to find. Some leave an oily residue and others dry out your skin! I’ve been through several products that have done just that, but luckily I have found a few that work well with my skin! Here are three that I absolutely suggest :)!

Bare Minerals is one of my fave makeup brands! No matter what I purchase, I’m almost always satisfied! Their Prime Time BB Primer-Cream not only primes your skin for makeup but helps both dry and oily skin. Since it is part BB cream, it covers blemishes and presents an even skin tone. It also contains 30 SPF so you’re prepared for your day poolside or at the beach!

For those with sensitive skin, Clinique is always your best bet! Their Superprimer Face Primers are perfect for those who worry about trying new products on their skin. Clinique makes sure their products won’t breakout your face, yet still do the job! The primer does just that and has amazing quality.

Chelsea Crockett - Smashbox PrimerAlthough this is technically a primer, I just have to throw in one last product. Smashbox’s Photo Matte Anti-Shine is a cream-gel formula that is absolutely amazing for people with oily skin. You can apply this cream before or after you put on makeup, depending on the type of foundation you use. It instantly soaks up any excess oil and minimizes your pores. It works for up to 8 hours so you don’t need to reapply continuously throughout the day!

Let me know which product is your favorite!

Sunscreen is an essential product needed on any summer day and there lots of questions that come along with it! Does it really work? Do I have to reapply? Do I need a higher SPF? Here are a few common myths that can either be trusted or busted!

Myth #1: It’s cloudy today so I don’t have to wear sunscreen. FALSE! The sun is extremely powerful, and, although you can’t see it, its rays can sneak up on you. Apply sunscreen no matter what the weather!

Myth #2: My makeup has SPF so I’m covered. FALSE! Although your makeup may have SPF, it doesn’t cover your whole face. I suggest buying a face sunscreen or a moisturizer with SPF and applying it before your makeup for extra coverage.

Myth #3: I already applied my sunscreen for the day, so I don’t have to reapply. FALSE! Sunscreen actually needs to be reapplied every 2 to 4 hours. If you’re swimming or getting in water, it needs to be reapplied even more often than that.Chelsea Crockett - Baby Sunscreen

Myth #4: Baby sunscreen isn’t only for babies. TRUE! Baby sunscreen is actually great for those with sensitive skin, especially on the face! If you are one with sensitive skin and are interested in buying some, click here: http://tiny.cc/CoppertoneSunscreen.

Ridiculous beauty routines and stories are all over the internet these days!  “Don’t do that, it’s bad for you” or “Do this, it’ll make you younger” are often seen as headlines for almost every idea or product that’s ever been sought out.  It can get exhausting; but no worries Insiders, I’m here to break some of the toughest beauty myths out there.  It’s time to get some answers!

  1. “Use petroleum jelly to make your lashes grow longer.” FALSE. There are many products on the market that aid in eyelash growth, but this isn’t one of them. Use of petroleum jelly can actually clog glands in your eyes leaving them in discomfort or infected!
  2. “Toothpaste will help take care of a breakout.” FALSE. I can assure you that using toothpaste on a zit will not get rid of it. Instead, it will dry out your skin and could lead to irritation.
  3. “Products that make my face feel cool or tingly are good!” FALSE. Chances are your skin is trying to fight off irritation. This can eventually lead to swelling and inflammation.
  4. “Skin never adapts to facial products.” TRUE. As long as you apply products that make your skin clear and healthy, those products will never stop working.
  5. “Dark spots are just from old age.” FALSE. Dark spots and most freckles are caused by damage to the skin from overexposure to the sun. In order to keep your Chelsea Crockett- frecklesskin in tip top shape, make sure to apply SPF!

Mysteries solved!

If you are one who suffers from dry skin, you already know how annoying and unpleasant it can be. Whenever I notice it starting to appear on my body, I sometimes get self-conscious and want to hide it as much as I can! There are several ways you can beat dry skin and get rid of it. Below are a few of my favorites!

During the summer, we tend to dry our skin out by laying in the sun or swimming daily. Obviously, you can eliminate most of your dry skin by simply moisturizing with lotion. But over-scented lotions can sometimes dry your skin out even more; so, be careful with what you’re applying to your skin. Also, keep a healthy, balanced diet. By eating your daily fruits and vegetables, you’re getting the vitamins and nutrients your body needs to keep your skin hydrated.

Chelsea Crockett - Avocado Face MaskExfoliating is a big part in getting rid of dead skin AKA dry skin! Different exfoliating scrubs will do the job just fine as long as you apply it gently. Too rough of a scrub could end up hurting your skin instead of actually helping it! If you don’t have any scrubs at home, apply Vaseline! Other home remedies that are a little bizarre, are adding bananas or avocados mixtures to your dry patches. There are many recipes online that say what to include in your homemade mixture. Pick your favorite and go from there!

Lemme know how it goes :)! -Chels

Being a girl is hard, especially with all the boy problems, friend problems, and school problems going on in our lives. Apart from those, us girls also have to encounter many beauty problems that are such a hassle! Although there may not be easy fixes for other issues, there are many solutions to beauty problems that are simple, quick, and cheap!

  • If your eyeliner ever crumbles or cracks while putting it on, try freezing your eyeliner. It may sound dumb but after leaving it in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes before using, it’ll set perfectly on your eyelid.Chelsea Crockett - Loose Curls
  • If you want highlights or simply lighter hair, try using lemon juice instead of expensive dyes or salon prices. I suggest putting a little juice wherever you want it lighter and then staying outside in the sun for a few hours. The sun is the key for making this work!
  • Did you know toothpaste isn’t only for your teeth? You can actually use toothpaste to get rid of your pimples! Put a little dab of it on your acne, go to sleep, and wash it off with a warm washcloth in the morning. Make sure you use a paste and not a gel toothpaste.
  • Every girl wants the perfect beach wave to her hair. I know from experience that it’s not the easiest thing to accomplish! If you curl your hair into super tight curls and sleep on it, you’ll wake up with loose, beachy curls! Set in your waves with some hairspray and you are set!

I hope these help solve your next beauty crisis!

Summertime is all about the pool and the beach!  Believe it or not, swimming in a salt water pool or the ocean actually has its benefits!  When it comes to your hair and skin, salt water works wonders.  No wonder our skin is bronzed and glowing in the summertime!Chelsea Crockett- beach hair

  • Salt water is a cleaning agent and a miracle for acne prone skin! The salt is very affective in clearing mild acne and can help smooth over scars. When you pick at zits, they can often start to bleed and scab over. Salt water helps clean out those sores and heal them faster!
  • Have you ever noticed how your hair is dry after swimming in the ocean? That’s because salt water acts as a natural shampoo. It rids your scalp of oils that make your hair greasy and dirty. It also acts as an exfoliator for your scalp and can help get rid of dandruff!
  • Salt water can help clear your head. If your nose is stopped up, salt water can help clear your nasal passages so you can breathe again! It’s a wonderful, natural way to take care of your sinus problems!

Instead of going to the dermatologist or doctor this summer, hit the beach instead!  It’s time to jump in the ocean!

Summer is all about the laid back lifestyle: not a care in the world, beach wave hair, and minimal makeup.  Once your skin gets tanner, it’s easier to leave out your foundation!  Try this minimal makeup look with 3 simple products: blush, mascara, and lip gloss.Chelsea Crockett- lip gloss mascara blush

Have you ever wanted that California lifestyle makeup look?  Well, I’ve got it for you!  In Cali, it’s all about letting your natural beauty shine through.  Since your skin will already be tan, there is no need for bronzer!  Try dusting a light pink blush on your cheek bones to give your face a little color!  Next, apply black mascara to your lashes to make your eyes pop!  In this case, eye shadow and eyeliner are not needed.  It would over power the look.  Last, pick out your favorite shade of lip gloss and apply it to your lips.

If you’re all about makeup, I challenge you to try this look.  Although it’ll be different, show everyone how naturally beautiful you are!  Remember, everyone is beautiful!

I love you all!

Hey lovelies!

Most of us are some type of athlete, which means hours of exercising and time at the gym.  Some people think it’s dumb to wear makeup while working out, but sometimes when you look good, you feel good!  Now I don’t mean to go all out with your makeup, but a natural, subtle look is perfect.

Chelsea Crockett - Waterproof MaybellineTo start off your look, try curling your eyelashes.  After this, add some waterproof mascara.  Maybelline carries an amazing one that you can purchase here:http://tiny.cc/MaybellineMascara.  This will give your eyes a little extra lift and you also won’t have to worry about your sweat ruining your mascara!  I know during the winter our body tends to dry out a lot more than during other seasons.  So for your chapped lips, try a tinted lip balm.  Baby Lips is a perfect brand to give your lips a little pop of color.  Click here to check them out!

As for your skiChelsea Crockett - Baby Lipsn, make sure you wash your face before you hit the gym!  The bacteria in your skin combined with sweat will clog your pores and lead to breakouts.  Also, washing your skin after your work out is just as important as before!  Use a gentle cleanser and pat your skin to dry it afterwards.  Then add your favorite moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.

Let me know below if this helps you out!  If not, what products do you suggest?

Hi Ladies,

Makeup isn’t always a good thing.  Yes, it may make you feel prettier or enhance your best features, but sometimes you have to let your skin breathe.  A girl who is confident in her own skin is prettier than any girl with a face full of makeup.  Natural is beautiful!Chelsea Crockett- quote

Not only is going natural a beautiful thing, but it’s good for you!  It’s important to let your skin breathe and unclog your pores.  If you are constantly wearing makeup, build-ups can occur in your pores causing acne.  Instead of healing or fixing blemishes, you are just covering them up.  How are they ever supposed to heal?!  Also, many products are full of chemicals that aren’t necessarily good for your skin.

One of the most beautiful things about not wearing makeup is showing off your natural beauty.  Sometimes too much makeup can cover up a girl’s true beauty.  When you don’t wear makeup, it shows how confident you are.  Try it sometime!  Going out in public without makeup can boost your self-esteem.  Remember, a smile is the best type of makeup a girl can wear.  Let everyone see the beautiful face God gave you!

Love,

Chelsea
