Hey insiders!

The world is full of different cultures, each with their own traditions and ways of getting by.  I’ve heard of some crazy ancient beauty remedies used from all different countries around the world.  Although some are way too insane to actually try, some are useful and super creative!  Keep on reading to discover moreJ!

Chile, in South America, credits red grapes for their perfect skin!  These women usually crush up a handful of red grapes and add two tablespoons of white flour.  They then apply it to their skin and let the mask sit for about 10 minutes.  After washing it off, your face will be left with a luminous glow!

In Egypt, legend tells that Cleopatra used to take milk baths to soften her skin.  Adding two cups of powdered milk to your bath leaves you with glowing, softer skin.

Chelsea Crockett - Cranberry MaskThe women in Spain like to bring out the natural highlights in their hair.  In order to do this the secret is cranberry juice!  To try it out at home, mix a ¼ cup of pure cranberry juice with a ¼ cup of water.  Then shower and rinse your hair in it!  If you’re blonde, make sure you use lemon juice!  Do not use cranberry juice unless you want to end up with orange hair!

These are only a few of the many secrets waiting to be discovered all around the globe!  Let me know what you think!

What You’re Doing Wrong to Your Skin

Hi Insiders,

It’s hard not to “repin” a beauty mask on Pinterest that will get rid of acne once and for all.  Let’s be real, we’ve all done it and even tried it!  There are so many beauty products and remedies out there that claim to be “the best” for your skin.  So how do you know that your beauty regime isn’t hurting your skin?!  Truth be told, there are a lot of beauty products and/or remedies that may be doing more harm than help to your skin.

  • Lemon juice has been a topic of debate in the beauty world recently.  In the long run, the powerful acid may be slowly damaging your skin.  It breaks down the skins acidChelsea Crockett- sunscreen mantle, which blocks the skin from bacteria that can cause acne and/or infections.
  • Use sunscreen!!  This is one of the biggest beauty mistakes you can make.  Sun spots from overexposed skin to the sun can leave you looking older than you are.  It also protects against skin cancer.
  • Applying too many different products to your skin can cause breakouts.  Your skin does not know how to react to an overhaul of product causing irritation and confusion to your skin.  Try one product and a time to make sure it cooperates with your skin.
  • Just because you have oily skin doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use products with oil in it.  If you over wash your face and use acid based products to get rid of oil, your skin will just produce more oil.  Use a safe balance of both oil and acid when cleansing your face.

Love your skin and treat it properly!

XOXO,

Chelsea

Hey insiders!

As teenagers, we all go through it.  Acne, oily skin, and unwanted breakouts are all things we have to put up with.  Luckily companies such as Clean & Clear, Neutrogena, and Olay have invented several products to help moisturize and disappear acne and dry or oily skin. Chelsea Crockett - Face Products

Many lotions and moisturizers are good for dry skin, but often leave residue making your face look and feel oily.  Olay’s Fresh Effects Long Live Moisture Satin Finish Lotion is perfect for moisturizing dry skin.  It does the job without leaving a super shiny finish on your skin!

A lot of face washes and cleansers tend to make your face appear cleaner, but really don’t cleanse it fully.  Clean & Clear’s Morning Burst Hydrating Facial Cleanser washes deep into your pores and removes any dirt or oil on your skin.  It’s oil-free and perfect for sensitive skin.  Its morning burst leaves your skin feeling extra fresh to start the day!

As for pop-up pimples and surprise breakouts, Neutrogena’s Naturals Acne Spot Treatment is just what you need.  You can put this on your acne during any time of the day.  It dries clear, so you don’t have to worry about when and where you apply it.

Skin can be tricky.  It always seems to break out at the most random times or get sunburnt when you’re barely outside!  Our skin doesn’t make sense 99% of the time and that can be very frustrating.  I know how hard it can be to determine what products are right for your skin.  So…I’ve come up with some easy tips to help you all out:

First, you need to decide whether your skin is sensitive or not.  I know what you’re thinking, “How can I tell?”  If your skin tends to sunburn easily then it is probably sensitive.  Another way to find out is to pay attention to see if you blush easily.  That sometimes indicates sensitive skin as well!  What I suggest for you, is Clinique.  Their brand has several options for those with sensitive skin and they work amazingly!Chelsea Crockett - Clinique

Second, you need to figure out if your skin is primarily dry or oily.  If your skin feels greasy or looks shiny, then it is safe to say you most likely have oily skin.  If it’s mostly dry and sometimes flaky, then you can obviously tell which skin type you have.  For those with oily skin, I suggest using a powder foundation.  And for those with dry skin, use a liquid foundation.  If you think about it, that makes perfect sense!  The foundation will set well on your skin and won’t slide off so easily.

Do you have any other tips?  If so, let me know below!

Hi girls!

Store-bought face masks and scrubs can sometimes be expensive and threatening to your skin.  You have to be careful with what you pick and choose to try on your face.  Luckily, there are several household ingredients you can mix together to create your perfect face scrub to give off a brighter, smoother feel!

Brightening and toning our faces is something we could all use every once and a while.  A simple recipe for this includes strawberries, almond oil, and sugar.  There are no exact measurements for each ingredient, so you can make as much as you want and however thick you want it!  I suggest using a small dish and filling it about halfway with sugar.  Then, add a little bit of almond oil.  Smash up about four or five strawberries and add them to your paste.  The end product should be a perfect brightening scrub!

Chelsea Crockett - Cucumber ScrubTo soothe sensitive skin, we can make an easy scrub using cucumbers, avocado oil, and brown sugar.  Once again, there are no set measurements, so you can make it to your desired thickness.  For a small amount that works for about one use, take a small dish and fill it, once again, halfway with brown sugar.  Smash up your cucumbers and mix that, and the avocado oil, in with your brown sugar.  And you’re done!  Wash your face and rinse with warm water!

Let me know how your beautiful, new skin turns out!

Summer can really do a number on your skin. It can dry it out, clog up your pores, burn it, all that good stuff! Here are some summer skin tips to keep your hide nice and safe.

  1. Find the right sunscreen for your skin type. This is super important because if you have oily skin, you need to get a sunscreen that is really light and won’t clog your pores! Read the labels good and well before purchasing sunscreen.chelsea crockett sunscreen
  2. Exfoliate more often. Dry skin is the enemy, and chlorine pools and sun can bring out your skin’s bad side! Make sure you exfoliate at least a few times a week to rid your body of all the dead skin that may be building up.
  3. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before, and use cold yogurt on sunburns. Apply the sunscreen 30 minutes in advance to give it time to soak into your skin. You don’t want to sweat it off or wash off in the pool because you can get a nasty sunburn if your skin isn’t protected! Also, if you do end up looking like a lobster at the end of the day, use cold yogurt on your skin to sooth the burn and heal it.

Go soak up the sun, and protect your skin this summer!

What You’re Doing Wrong to Your Skin: Part 2

Loving your skin is very important.  If you read my last article, “What You’re Doing Wrong to Your Skin”, you may have realized that there are a lot of harmful beauty regimes you may be using on your skin.  Your skin is so delicate, so to prevent these mishaps, check out these additional ways to save your skin from any harsh treatment!

  • Be careful when exfoliating!  Scrubs with thick jagged pieces can cause small tears on the surface of your skin.  Even using a wash cloth to exfoliate can cause damage.  Make sure to be gentle and wash in a circular motion.  If it feels like it’s working “too good”, then it’s probably doing some harm.
  • Wash your makeup brushes!  After countless makeup applications, your brushes are probably caked with makeup, and not to mention bacteria.  Bacteria from your eyes, mouth, and bathroom can build up on your brushes.  Invest in brush shampoo or a spray to keep them clean!Chelsea Crockett- makeup brushes
  • Do not rely on makeup wipes to clean your face.  Of course they are great for lazy nights or a makeup mishap, but they may leave irritants or chemicals on your skin since you are not rinsing with water.  Be sure to wash your face with soap and water!
  • Watch touching your hands to your face!  Your hands touch everything, which can create a buildup of dirt and oil.  Touching your face with unclean hands can create more oil, or worse, zits!

Paying attention to your skin is very important!  Treat it with care and it will pay you in return with a glowing complexion.

Love,

Chelsea

Hello Lovelies,

I love love love sweets!  Nothings better than a giant candy bar, or a chocolate cake, or cupcakes, or ice cream, or…..well, you get the point.  Lucky for you, there’s a sweet out there that is actually good for you!  Sounds too good to be true, right?  Dark chocolate, eaten in moderation, has a Chelsea Crockett- dark chocolatelot of amazing benefits for your health.  Who would’ve guessed that chocolate, something so delicious, could actually be a wonder food?

Dark chocolate, unlike many other sweets, has a lot of crucial benefits for your health.  Eating small amounts 2-3 times a week can lower your blood pressure and increase blood flow to the brain.  It contains the same chemical that is released in your body when you feel like you’re in love, so this stimulates blood flow throughout the body and makes you feel happier.  It is also full in antioxidants, which helps block harmful bacteria from the body and can protect you from many types of cancer.  Surprisingly, dark chocolate contains a stimulant called Theobromine, which hardens tooth enamel.  This can actually lower your risk of cavities (chocolate that doesn’t cause cavities, whaaaat?!)

Start making small amounts of dark chocolate a regular food in your weekly diet.  It won’t be sudden, but soon your body will start to thank you.  Just remember, don’t eat the entire bar!

            Hello darlings!

One of the most annoying things about makeup is having to reapply it continuously throughout the day.  Smeared eyeliner, disappearing blush, and runny mascara are only a few of the daily problems girls struggle with!  Here are a few pointers for long-lasting makeup:Chelsea Crockett- highlighting

  • Instead of blush, try a cheek stain or gel.  Powdered blush can get rubbed off easily especially those with oily skin.  Because stains, gels, and liquids are so highly pigmented, you’ll be sure to have noticeably pink cheeks all day long!
  • Mascara has the easiest, (and most obvious), solution.  Just use waterproof!  That’s all there is to it.  Buy some here:http://tiny.cc/MaybellineMascara
  • For eyeliner, liquids and gels last the longest.  If you’re more of a pencil user, there’s still a solution!  Apply your pencil eyeliner, then put a matching shade of eye shadow on top.  This will help keep the liner right where you left it.
  • Last but not least, foundation seems to be one of the hardest powders to keep locked into place.  The best formulas to use are oil-free.  This way the foundation finds it harder to slide off your skin.

Let me know what you use to keep your makeup on in the comment section below.

            Hey insiders!

There are many beauty guidelines that we all follow during the winter.  If a fashion magazine says something’s good for your skin, we automatically believe it, right? Have you ever wondered whether they’re actually benefitting us?  Here are a few winter beauty myths everyone should know!

  • Applying lip balm over and over again is good for your lips.  FALSE!  Continuously applying your chap stick can actually harm your lips instead of help them.  They contain an ingredient that tricks you into thinking you need more and more of it, whichChelsea Crockett - Neutrogena Moisturizer is also false.  Try out a lip serum or cream that repairs your chapped, wintery lips.
  • There’s no need for sunscreen during the winter.  FALSE!  Just because the temperature’s lower doesn’t mean your skin’s not soaking up the sun’s rays.  If you can, try using moisturizer with SPF.  Neutrogena carries an oil-free moisturizer with 15 SPF which is just enough to keep you protected.  The sun will hit you just as hard as it will in the summer.  Don’t underestimate the sun!
  • Staying indoors as much as possible during the winter will help your skin.  FALSE!  You need fresh air as much as possible.  Yes, too much cold air can dry out your skin, but over-heated indoors can as well.  Putting a humidifier in your room can add a little moisture to the air and help hydrate your skin.

Hi Girls!

This year, the hottest makeup trend for fall and winter seems to be no makeup at all!  Models and celebs have been spotted fresh faced all over.  Whether it’s on a magazine or a picture on Instagram, sporting a fresh face is the new bold makeup look.  All you need are 3 makeup items and you’re good to go!

The number one thing all makeup artists say for a fresh face is “a pouty lip, bold brows, and clean skin”.  Begin your fresh faced makeup look by cleaning your skin of all dirt and preexisting makeup.  Once your face is feeling nice and clean, apply a dab of concealer under each eye to get rid of any dark circles.  For the next step, think BOLD.  Using an eyeliner pencil that matches your eyebrow color, lightly fill in your brows for a thick, dramatic look.  This will take away from the fact that you aren’t wearing any eye makeup.  Last, using a clear or nude lip gloss, create a pouty lip.  It’s as simple as that!! Chelsea Crockett- thick eyebrows

Don’t ever be afraid to showcase your natural beauty.  Everyone is beautiful in their own way.  Embrace your natural beauty and love every feature! “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” –Psalm 139:14

You are all beautiful!

Did you know you could “winterize” your skin? Neither did I! Winterizing your skin is getting it ready for the cold, dry winter months. Let me explain!

1. Lavish your Lips! During the winter months, your lips can get dry and cracked. I’ve got a few ways to keep those kissers nice and moist! The first tip is to keep a good quality chapstick on hand. I recommend Burt’s Bees, because it is natural and high quality! My next tip is to take a soft bristled toothbrush and gently brush your lips with it. Instant exfoliation! After you have brushed your lips, smooth some chapstick over those babies.how-to-treatcure-pleeing-lips

 2. Skip the Steamy Shower! Okay don’t freak out, but hot showers can really strip your skin of moisture! Now I’m not saying take showers that are the temperature of Alaskan ocean water, but maybe turn the heat down just a tad. When you take super-hot showers, it causes your blood vessels to dilate which results in water loss through your skin! So turn those temps down, ladies!

 3. Sensitive skin? Avoid Tap Water! Do you have really dry, sensitive skin? Then listen up! Tap water can contain harsh minerals that are especially drying to the skin. Every state’s water contains different minerals, some harsher than others. To be safe, you can use clensing pads to clean your face, and if you feel your face really needs some TLC, wash it using bottled water.

I am SO ready for fall and winter, and your skin will be too! Do you have any advice on how to winterize your skin? Comment below and fill me in!

Repair Unwanted Summer Damage

Hey everyone!  With summer coming to a close, we want to make sure we’re looking our best for the upcoming school year.  Throughout the summer, our skin and hair receive unwanted damage from too many days in the pool and sun.  Luckily, with the help of developed products, you can easily fix your dead skin and body cells!

I know most of us love swimming and days at the pool, but of course, too much of anything is never good.  Most pools contain chlorine which creates some bad effects on our bodies.  Chlorine dries out your skin and hair and even brings redness to your eyes.  To fix your post-pool hair, try using the Philip Kingsley Swimcap.  This cream repairs the dried and damaged parts of your hair and also protects it from the sun next time you take a dip at the pool.  Even members of the U.S. Olympic Swim Team use this, so you know it’s the real deal.

As far as skin goes, getting too much sun can end up in a nasty sunburn.  Sunburns damage the cells on your body and even worse, on your face.  The perfect solution to help cool the burn is aloe.  You can find aloe almost anywhere, but finding aloe for your face is tricky.  If you’re like me, you’ll need something that’s good on sensitive skin.  Clinique’s “After-Sun Rescue Balm with Aloe” is oil-free and calms sun-exposed skin.  To help your cracked lips, try either EOS or Burt’s Bees’ Conditioning Balm.  Both products will soothe the burning feeling and repair the damage in your lips.Chelsea Crockett - Repair Summer Damage

Summertime Skin Tips

Hey ladies!  Keeping your skin healthy is a daily struggle for girls year round, but during the summer this task seems even more difficult.  As we all know, there are lots of products to try out on our skin to reduce unwanted breakouts.  But what we don’t know is that there are many things we can do in our everyday routine to reduce our imperfections.

Chelsea Crockett - WaterSince it is summer, most of us will be spending the majority of our time outside in the high temperatures and hot sun.  Be sure to get very comfortable with H2O.  Water helps maintain the moisture in our skin and body.  Our body needs at least eight glasses of water to stay properly hydrated.  If you’re a soda or coffee drinker and need your daily boost of caffeine, you’ll need to triple the amount of water you drink!

Because summer is a time for fun in the sun activities, make sure you apply (and reapply) sunscreen!  Some of us think we only need to apply sunscreen once and we’re set for the day.  But studies show that to have full protection, we must apply every hour and a half to two hours.  If we don’t, the result will be a sunburn.  Sunburns damage the molecules in our skin and produce redness, pain, swelling, and sometimes peeling.  Another negative is that they make you feel hot and tired, and who wants that?Chelsea Crockett - Exfoliating Skin

Another quick tip is to exfoliate your skin.  Doing this gets rid of the dead skin on your face.  If you don’t get rid of it, it sets on your face making it look dry, dead, and dull.

Hope this helps you get glowing and healthy skin!

Chelsea Crockett- Michael Todd Pearl and Silk Mask I recently got the Organic Pearl and Silk Mask.  It’s an extremely gentle mask that leaves your skin feeling clean and soft.  With the help of the pearl, the mask hydrates dry skin and the silk leaves dull skin looking brighter!  After applying the mask, my skin felt cool and tingly.  I could feel the mask cleaning out my pores.  After the mask had been on for 10-15 minutes, I washed the mask off with a wash cloth and my normal cleanser.  My skin was glowing and felt so soft.  It felt cleaner than ever!

Michael Todd also carries other masks including the intense Charcoal Mask for deep cleansing, the Pumpkin Mask to replenish your skin with the nutrients it needs, and the Avocado Mango Mark for extreme hydration for dry skin.

Another great product by Michael Todd is the Charcoal Scrub.  It’s a deep cleansing scrub that goes beyond the pores.  After one use, my skin felt cleaner and smoother.  I have really oily skin and noticed that each day I used it, my skin felt less oily and fresher.  I didn’t feel the need to wash my face 100 times a day.  Michael Todd products have made my everyday face washing routine simpler.  My skin has never looked better and your skin will feel the same way!
