Middle parts can be tricky. You may be nervous to break away from the side part you’ve been comfortable with all your life! Middle parts represent a high fashion look that can be worn for more formal occasions, curled or straight, or for your everyday look if that’s what you prefer. Once you’re ready to give it a try, follow these simple steps!Chelsea Crockett - Taylor Hill Middle Part

  1. Get your hair used to it. It takes a while to train your hair to stay a certain way. If you’ve parted your hair on the side your whole life, it’ll take a few times to make it look natural. Definitely start by parting it the way you want it after you shower or when it’s wet.
  2. Use the right tools. By blow drying your hair after you shower, it’ll help force it to stay.
  3. Frame your face. By using a straightener, you can frame your hair around your face, whether you want it curled or straightened. This will help make it look more natural and styled!
  4. Find a style that fits your cut. Depending on the length and cut of your hair, you’ll have to find a style that looks best on you. Like the picture on the right, she used her layers to her advantage and loosely curled each piece.

Training your hair to a new style is the hardest but most important step of rocking a middle part. Once you achieve that, then you’re ready to tackle the next step!

Good luck! – Chels

Many of us are guilty of spending hundreds of dollars on hair styling products. Brands such as Chi can charge over a hundred dollars for a single straightener… Yikes! There are hundreds of different brands that offer the same types of products, but do they work just as well? Or is it worth the splurge?Chelsea Crockett - Hair Styling Tools I’m here to answer your questions!

Don’t get me wrong, the brand Chi offers amazing hair products. Their prices may be high, but their quality is worth it. They’re long-lasting and work really well on all different types of hair. That being said, there are many other brands that have the same effect as the higher quality products. When you’re shopping for a new straightener or curler, it’s hard to know which product you’re getting the best deal on based off the box or price. I suggest reading up on reviews and ratings before buying! They’re usually pretty accurate and can save you time and money!

As for styling products such as gels and oils, the same rules can be applied. One product that comes to mind is Moroccan Oil which can be pretty pricey. Argon oil from Target works almost just as well and is much more reasonably priced! You have to read up on different reviews of products to see if they’re worth the money!

If you’re like me, then part of your morning routine for 50% of the week involves a flat iron, whether it is curling, straightening, or taming frizz. Unfortunately for us, flat irons can cause some major damage to your fragile locks! If you want to have healthy hair but also want to style it using heat, you can have the best of both worlds if you follow the following tips!

  1. Prep with a smoothing shampoo: Use a heat repair shampoo and conditioner combo to prep and protect your hair! It will help replenish moisture back to it and get it ready for your next heat-styling sesh.k2-_27f2a273-f3b2-40c3-8171-8cb069f0ab81.v1.jpg-493a3404189bedd09678a1acfe8f1b1931fc92e3-optim-450x450
  2. Protect your strands: Before you heat up your hair, spray a good heat protectant on it. Pick one that protects from damage as well as smooths and adds shine! It will prevent it from becoming dry and stiff after you straighten it.
  3. Use ceramic plated irons: Ceramic plates protect your hair with negatively charged ions and helps keep your hair smooth.
  4. Use a deep conditioner: Once a month, treat your hair to some moisture! Your hair needs restoration if you frequently use heat on it, so letting a deep conditioner soak about 10 minutes on your strands once a month, then rinse and let your hair air dry!

Protecting your hair is so so important if you use hot tools often. The more you protect, the longer it will grow and the better it will look!

Odds are, all of us have used a straightener in our lifetimes. In fact, most of us use them on a daily basis, whether to curl or straighten our hair! Little did I know that there is a science to picking the perfect straightener for your hair. Here is everything you need to know to find the perfect flat iron for you!

Size:

Mini flat iron–  These  1/2” flat irons are perfect for bangs and fly away hairs! They are also perfect for travel because they are so small.

1” flat iron: These straighteners are perfect for short, fine hair.revlon-perfect-heat-ceramic-straighteners-model-rvst2029cpk2-1-12-plates

1 ½” flat iron: These are great for hair that is not thin but not thick, it is right in the middle! They are also great for thick, coarse, and curly long hair.

2” flat iron: This straightener is great for long, thick hair.

Type:

Ceramic: This is the type that I have! Ceramic plates are less likely to burn your hair and allow for an even distribution of heat.

Titanium: Titanium plate heat up the fastest, but be careful because if you clamp the plates on your hair for too long you can burn your hair!

Tourmaline: Tourmaline is a mineral that is crushed up and then used to coat the plates of your flat iron. It helps make your hair shinier, straighter, and less frizzy than other straighteners!

Now you are fully educated in the art of choosing the perfect straightener for your hair!

Curling your hair with a straightener? What?!  Sounds weird I know, but it’s actually super quick and there are multiple ways to do it!  If you don’t have a curling iron or aren’t the biggest fan of them, then keep on reading and check out how to curl your hair with a straightener!Chelsea Crockett- curling your hair with a straightener

When curling your hair with a straightener, it’s important to use small to medium chunks of hair rather than big ones. Start by sectioning your hair into a top and bottom layer.  Begin curling the bottom layer by starting at your roots and making a circular motion, twisting the straightener as you move down the strand of hair.  Continue to do this for each layer and you’ll have perfectly loose straightener curls!

Another way to curl your hair with a straightener is to braid your hair into 4 tight braids. Run the straightener down each braid a few consecutive times and then let the braid sit before taking it out.  Once you have straightened each braid and let them sit, take out the braid and loosen your hair.  This will give you perfect beach like waves!  You can even add some sea salt texturizing hair spray to complete your look!

Hope this can make the process of curling your hair a little easier!

Chelsea

Now that summer is just around the corner, you will want to know how to get soft, shiny, and smooth hair despite the humidity.  Who doesn’t want to have beautiful hair in their summer vacation photos?!  I know I do!  Following my simple hair care routine, your hair will straight and shiny for any event.Chelsea Crockett- Cool Way Hair Products

After washing my hair (TIP: I don’t use conditioner!), I apply my Cool Way Booster Serum from my roots to my scalp to give my hair a little extra volume.  If you have thick hair like me, you’ll do anything to have volumized hair!  Then, I spray my hair with the Cool Way Moisturizing Spray to keep the moisture in my hair while I dry and straighten it.  Once the serum and spray are applied, I dry my hair until it is as dry as it gets…thank you thick hair.  Now that it is about 80% dry, I sometimes add a couple more sprays of the Cool Way Moisturizing Spray to get my hair nice and hydrated.  Now, it’s time to straighten!  I use the Cool Way straightener, which tells me what temperature to straighten my hair at so it never burns.  It’s possibly the most high-tech straightener I’ve ever seen!   Voilà!  You’ve got soft, shiny, smooth, and straight hair in a matter of a few steps.  Click here to get the Cool Way straightening system.

Hello Girls!

Wavy hair is my go-to hair.  It’s so effortless and great when you don’t feel like doing your hair.  Unfortunately, some of us are born with pin-straight hair or you have such thick hair it takes hours to curl.  I’ll show you a few easy ways to get beautiful waves without using a curling iron. Chelsea Crockett- braided waves

If you have thick, long hair, sleep in a long French braid at night.  When you wake up in the morning, take the braids out, and run your fingers through your hair.  You’ll have pretty waves in a flash!  If you have thin or short hair, I wouldn’t recommend this.  Your hair will look kinked and your ends won’t lay flat.

For those of you with thin or short hair, twist or braid small sections of your hair and run a straightener over it a few times.  This will create very soft waves.  Make sure to apply a small amount of hair spray so your waves don’t go flat.  If you have curling moose, layer it throughout your hair to keep the curls in place.  My favorite is Marc Anthony Strictly Curls foam or Curl Envy.  Love your hair and love your curls!
