You did it! You landed a job interview. Now that you’ve got that accomplished, it is time to think about what you are going to wear! There are a lot of variables to keep in mind, like how the job you are interviewing for should influence what you wear, and how you shouldn’t dress too fashion forward because you want to be the star of the interview, not your handbag. There is one aspect that a lot of people overlook, and that is color. Different colors send different messages. What IS the best color to wear to a job interview? Read on to find out.

Safe choices:

  1. Blue: blue is a safe choice. Shades of blue send a message that you are trustworthy and credible, according to experts. It inspires confidence!
  2. Gray: if you want to send a message that you are logical and responsible, wear gray! If you want to add personality to a gray interview outfit, wear colored accessories like a purse of scarf.Dynamic-Navy-Dresses-Like-You-have-Never-Seen-Before-1
  3. White: white sends the message that you pay attention to details and that you are organized. A white blazer over a black dress or a white button down with a black skirt is a great, professional way to work white into your interview apparel.

Stay away from:

  1. Red: red shows power, but not in a good way. Studies show that people in charge of hiring say if you wear red to an interview, it can make you come across as aggressive and rebellious.
  2. Brown: brown can send the message that you are simple and old-fashioned, so if you are interviewing for a job where creativity and forward-thinking are required, brown is not a good choice of clothing color.
  3. Orange: studies show this is the absolute worst color to wear to an interview. They say it is an unprofessional color!

Now knock ‘em dead, champ!

Why We Should Accept that Everyone’s Style is Different

Walk through the halls of high school, mall, or walk through a college campus and you will discover one thing: everyone dresses differently. It may be subtly different or drastically unique, but there is no escaping the fact that everyone has their own personal style. And you know what? That is awesome! Life would be so boring if we were all the same! Unfortunately, sometimes we catch ourselves making fun of or negatively commenting on other people’s style, saying that it looks weird or isn’t the cutest. Here are just a few reasons why we shouldn’t make fun or bash other people’s personal style.

  1. Different is just different, it doesn’t make it ugly: For a lot of us, our tendency is to think that anything that is different from our own preferences isn’t cute or is wrong. If you love wearing colors and patterns, then simplistic style may seem boring and dull to you. If you love preppy style, the boho/hippie style trend is probably far from your favorite. But, just because we aren’t interested in it or don’t want to wear it ourselves doesn’t make it un-stylish or ugly!FullSizeRender (76)
  2. Style is personal: And it is also a journey. When I was in middle school and the early high school stages, I loved wearing name brands and t-shirts with their logos on them. Now, I rarely wear those brands, and tend to wear more trendy pieces and am more adventurous with my wardrobe. Your style changes as you change, and it can even depend on how you are feeling that day when you pick out your outfit! So, teasing someone on their outfit choice is ultimately telling them that their style isn’t as mature as yours or they have no clue about what is fashionable, when that isn’t the case at all!
  3. Experimenting is fun: Wearing the same style of clothes day after day can get boring, so switching up your style keeps things fun and interesting! Why wear what you think everyone else is wearing or what you think others will like when you can wear what YOU like and feel comfortable in? Experiment with different looks and have fun with fashion. Don’t put yourself in a style box and feel like you have to stay within that “style,” and don’t let others feel like you have to BE in a box!

So, next time you see someone wearing an outfit that is so not your style, just look at them and think “They have interesting personal style, and they totally rock it!” You know the awesome feeling of putting together an outfit that is totally “you” and how confident and pretty you feel when wearing it, so you can recognize when someone else is feeling that way about their outfit and themselves.

So, here is the deal. You wore this super cute outfit out with your friends, and are feeling supa-fine. You all take a picture together, they post it, and you look at it later and think “holy cow, did I really look like THAT?!” We have all had that happen to us. Our outfit looks great in the mirror or on the hanger, but when we see our self later in a pic, we realize it was less than flattering. To avoid this happening to you ever again, here is a list of the most photogenic clothes!

  1. Fitted sweater: Even in the spring and summer, a sweater can be worn quite stylishly with a skirt or shorts! I know we all loooove our oversized sweaters and blouses, but save them for a day when you know you won’t be needed in any photos because they add bulk to your frame. If you just cannot part with your oversized tops, then tuck them into a pair of highrise shorts or jeans to show off your waist.115847-d-black-0
  2. A midi skirt: As we have discussed, I love midi skirts. They are a great equalizer that works for everyone and are appropriate for every occasion. They cinch your waist and make it look slim, then flairs out to give you shape!
  3. Strappy heels: These shoes are so popular right now- from the red carpet to prom to date night! A two strap heel, like the ones in the picture, straightens your posture, lengthens your legs, and if you choose a nude pair they go with everything!
  4. Off-the-shoulder: I have written about these before… I love them so much! They are so flattering because they show off your shoulders and collarbones while disguising your upper arms, which are the widest part of your arms.

If you know you are going somewhere where you know you will be photographed, use this guide to choose your ensemble!

Denim is one of the most versatile looks. You can rock it in the fall, winter, spring, summer, it is a year-round fashions statement! Today we are going to focus on springtime denim. There are a few denim clad looks I am rocking this spring that I think you will dig! Here they are!

  1. Frayed ankle jeans: I picked up a pair of these babies at MOD the other day, and I am in love. I love the unique look of having frayed ankles instead of the usual hemmed ones. I like pairing these with ankle booties and a flowey top.9a47e8c4e008538b59aa6cc9cdb546c0
  2. Denim babydoll dresses: If you are in search of a way to wear denim that has a feminine flair, look no further! Denim babydoll dresses are the perfect solution. Find one with elbow or long sleeves to keep you warm during chilly spring days, and pair it with a felt floppy hat and suede booties for a super sweet ensemble!d74609d4b9c99e54d0ad17b7549b2024

How to Walk in Heels: Chelsea Edition

I am always amazed at women who can walk effortlessly in heels. Like, they just glide across the floor like they aren’t wearing 6 inch spikes on their feet. How do they do that?! Well, with prom around the corner, I see lots of high-heel-wearing in my future, so I thought it would be good for all of us to take a crash course in how to walk in heels.

  1. Start small: 6 inch heels are not a beginners dose of heel! Start with something small and then work your way up. This is the key to learning how to walk in heels, start with something that is easy and it will become natural to you.
  2. Make sure the shoe fits perfectly: It is a million times easier to walk in heels when they actually fit. If they are too small, your toes get smushed every time you take a step, and if they are too big your heel slips out every time you lift your foot off of the ground. Both are not good! You could seriously injure your toes or twist your ankle. If your shoe fits but you are still having a tough time keeping it on, there are heel grips you can buy to help you out!FullSizeRender (43)
  3. Place your heel on the ground first: Heels force you to walk differently. When you wear heels, make sure you put your heel on the ground first before the pad of your foot, so walk heel to toe. Walking like you normally would, by just simply placing your whole foot flat on the ground, is uncomfortable and awkward in heels!
  4. Small steps: You need to take smaller steps when you wear heels. Walking your normal stride is not going to be easy in them, and it will probably feel a bit awkward. Take small, lady-like steps, don’t try to power walk, and practice in the mirror to see what looks best!
  5. Don’t push it: If walking in heels is painful for you, or if you just don’t like it, don’t do it! Don’t feel like you have to wear heels to look “like a lady”, if they hurt you or if they just aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other shoe types that look just as good!

Happy heel-wearing!

Cardigans are a staple in every girl’s closet. We all have at least one or two! They come in all shapes and size, and in all prints and patterns! Some cardigans fit certain body types better than others, and some fit outfits better than others! Today we tackle the cardigan conundrum. Here is a guide to the do’s and dont’s of cardigans, including the best cardigan for your body type…and outfit!

  1. Your classic, waist-length cardigan: This is the most common cardigan of all. The “don’t” of these cardigans is NOT to wear them with long tops! The contrast in lengths is not crazy flattering. It can give your body a funky looking shape. DO wear them with fitted dresses, or high-waisted skirts or pants. The hem of the cardigan should not be more than a few inches longer than the waist band of your bottoms.images
  2. The oversized cardigan: Patterned oversized cardis can be hard to style sometimes. The “don’t” for this sweater is to wear loose-fitting pants or bottoms with it. It can make you look bulkey and wide, and I don’t think that is a look you’re going for. The DO is to wear skinny skinny skiiiiinny jeans or leggings. Staying slim on the bottom keeps the baggy top in balance!
  3. The wrap cardigan: I love wrap cardigans! They are a little less bulky and more fitted than the cardigans above, but are still drapey and flowy. Don’t wear wrap cardigans with loose bottoms like we mentioned above. The proportions may be off! DO wear these with classy jeans or pants that flatter your figure.

Cardigans are a classy way to stay warm in the winter!

To me, sequins are a vital accessory when it comes to winter fashion. They can take any outfit from simple to stunning. Here are my top 3 favorite ways to style sequins.

  1. Skirts: I bought 2 sequined pencil skirts at H&M last season and im so glad I did. I style them with tights and a simple blouse to balance out the pazazz of the skirt. They are a great Christmas/New Years party outfit option!sequin
  2. Clutches: If you want to wear sequins in the most subtle way possible, grab a sequined clutch. Target has so many cute ones this season! They are a great way to add feminine flare to your outfit, plus they are a great statement piece.
  3. Blazers: This is the easiest way to style sequins. By tossing on a sequined blazer you can add sass to any ensemble. Wear it with jeans and a simple tee for a contrasting look, or pair it with dress pants or a skirt for a cute date night outfit.

How will you style sequins this winter?

On Pinterest I always see pictures of women wearing chic over-the-knee boots and I drool a little. The boots are so chic and look effortlessly stylish. They look so slimming, too! Well, as we have heard time and time again, some things look better in pictures than they do in real life. Over-the-knee boots are one of those things. As it turns out, styling and being able to pull off over-the-knee boots is actually a bit of a challenge because they don’t always flatter every body type and style preference! Here are a few tips on how to wear them for every body type.

  1. For tall girlies: You ladies have it the best when it comes to over-the-knee boots. Your long legs are beneficial because the bootsboots accentuate them and make them look even longer! Pair them with a simple sweater dress for a great balanced between your boots and your hemline.
  2. For curvy ladies: If you have curves you can totally rock these bad boys! It is all about how you wear them. Go for a pair that hits right above the knee and creates a lean, long leg line with some dark denim jeans. As for your top, wear a long sweater or blouse to finish the ensemble off.
  3. For petite gals: When it comes to my petite pals, I suggest pairing over-the-knee boots with fitted pieces that show your shape. It is important not to overwhelm your small frame! Don’t wear tops or dresses with long hemlines that make your legs look short, go for tops/dresses/skirts that leave plenty of space between your hemline and boots.

These stylish boots can work for any body type! You just have to know how to style them in a way that works with YOU. 🙂

How to Style Black on Black

I think wearing black on black is so chic and sophisticated. But, there is a difference between wearing all black and looking sophistocated and wearing all black and looking grungy. We want to lean more towards classy and chic, so here are a few ways to do just that!

  1. Play with shades: There are different shades of black. When I say that, I mean there is lighter blacks that are more dark gray-ish and then there are pitch blacks. My advice is to play with different shades of black and dark gray in an outfit to add dimension and break up the black.black
  2. Work with patterns: Wear black ripped jeans with a quilted black leather jacket and plain black or dark gray tee. The different patterns and textures of the pieces will keep things interesting and distract from the solomness of the dark shade. You can also wear black tops with white trim or patterns to add some accent!
  3. Go bold: This look is for the girl that knows wearing all black is an art and takes planning, and she embraces it. Like I said earlier, there is a fine line between looking sophistocated and going too overboard with wearing all black. In this outfit we go bold and we pair plain black skinnies with a classic leather biker jacket and black booties. We can even toss in a black handbag with silver zippers and snaps, so that the accents on the handbag accentuate the oufit. The silver accents on the buckles of the boots and the snaps on the jacket and handbag help break up the black.

Remember to keep things classy and chic when planning an all black ensemble. Be bold, and be brave when making fashion choices! 😉

Are you into the retro look? Do you like rocking clothes that have a throwback vibe? Then you will love the bell-sleeve trend. The wide sleeves give a free-spirited vibe to the pieces. The sleeves sort of remind me of pictures I have seen of disco dancers back in the ‘70s! Here is how to rock the throwback look today.

  1. Casual: If you want to casually incorporate bell-sleeves into your daily wardrobe, opt for a simple, loose-fitting tunic type shirt with subtle bell-sleeves. Pair this with distressed jeans for a subtle, casual look.bell
  2. Semi-casual: If you are going more for a “dinner with friends” or a cute date look, opt for a more dressy blouse-type shirt with bell-sleeves paired with simple skinny dress pants or solid jeans. Add in a felt hat or booties for accessories.
  3. Dressy: If you are looking to dress things up, pair a bell-sleeve dress with thights and boots. Now this outfit isnt TOO dressy, so it can be used in semi-casual situations as well. I love the combo of tights and booties with the dress. Totally classy, totally trendy, and totally cute! Toss on a felt hat to add some personality to the outfit.

What do you think of bell-sleeves? Will you wear the trend?

You may think that scalloped patterns on clothing are just for the spring and summer. Think again! This preppy trend can be taken with you into the cold seasons as well. Here are a few ways you can work with it!

  1. Accessorize: If you want to subtly scallop your outfit, wear it in accessories like this cute leather clutch! This adds a subtle, girly flare to your outfit.scallops 1
  2. Sweet sweaters: Work scallops into your sweaters! I think this scalloped sweater is so cute. The color contrast along with the pattern gives it dimension and makes it the statement piece of the whole ensemble.
  3. Dress it up: How cute is this scater dress? The scalloped hem is a cute girly addition to your simple every-day little black dress. Wear it over some dark colored tights with boots and you have a cute Thanksgiving/Christmas outfit!

See? What’d I tell ya. Scallops are “in” in every season. What is your favorite way to wear this pattern?

How much black do you have in your closet? I’d say every fashion-seeking girl has a fair amount of black in her wardrobe. It is just a classy, versatile color that can be styled in so many ways. But, as far as dark neutral colors go, gray is the closest thing to black, and is also a perfect accent or substitute for it. If you are wary to wear black, or are just tired of wearing it, gray is a great alternative. Gray compliments just about anything, from neon shades to neutrals. Here are 3 ways to go gray this fall and winter.grey

  1. Cute and girly: If you like to show your girly side, try pairing some black tights with a dark gray wool skater skirt and a light gray sweater. The different shades give the outfit some dimension, plus the combo is just too cute!
  2. Comfy and casual: This outfit is a great casual option. Layer a chunky, oversized gray sweater with a lighter gray knitted infinity scarf. The contrasting knit patterns will draw people’s eyes.
  3. Contrasting: Pair some gray skinnies with a white shirt for a sharp contrasting look that is simple yet eye-catching.

Do you have more suggestions on how to make gray your wardrobe’s new black?

How much do you wear belts? My guess is only when your pants need assistance staying on your tush. Your winter wardrobe this year is dependent on them! Belts, that is. You can build your outfit around them and use them to accessorize! You can also use them to shape your clothes to your body. Bold belts can transform a simple ensemble into a stylish outfit. Here are 3 ways to use belts in your wardrobe this winter!belt 3

  1. Blanket Scarf: Do you ever wonder what the best way to wear your blanket scarf is? They are so thick that sometimes it is difficult to style them. Belts transform your blanket scarf into a cute vest! Layer your scarf over a simple tee, drape it over your shoulders, and tie a belt around the middle. This gives you some curves and adds layers to your look.
  2. Cape: Wear a classy cape with a belt around the middle! It breaks up the simplicity of the cape and, like the option above, it gives you some shape.
  3. Printed: This last option is the simplest of all. Wear a patterned belt, like leopard print, with a simple shirt and jeans for a simple but sassy outfit. If you want to wear a simple neutral sweater with jeans, wearing a printed belt takes your outfit to the next level.

Belt it up!

To me, there is no clothing item more classic than a tan trench coat. They are timeless, can be paired with pretty much anything, and never go out of style. If there was one piece of clothing I would recommend for every closet, it would be a tan trench coat! Here are a few of my favoirte ways to wear them this fall and winter.trench 1

  1. Classy and casual: For running around town or any casual occasion, pair a simple striped shirt with some dark jeans, and simple ankle booties with a trench coat for a slightly nautical, classy look.
  2. A bit more dressy: If you want to dress things up just a smidge, layer a patterened button-up under a simple sweater, and pair that with a pair of black pants for a preppy, put-together look.
  3. Dressing it up: If you’re feeling really dressy, pair a cute collared dress with your trench coat. The collar will add a sweet simple touch to the outfit, and the dress gives the ensemble a feminine flair!

So what do you say, is a trench coat on your wish list now?

Who says you cannot wear white after Labor Day? I petition that we throw that rule out the door! Why put those perfectly good white jeans away for the fall/winter when you could rock them all year long? Beats me! Here are my favorite ways to wear white jeans in the fall.white pants 1

  1. With a neutral sweater: If you are looking for a casual outfit to wear to school, pair your white skinnies with a neutral colored oversized sweater. Add in a thick brown belt and some nude flats or Sperries to complete the look!
  2. With a jean jacket: A dark jean jacket adds so much dimension to a simple outfit. Pair white jeans, a simple gray shirt, and a denim jacket for a simple, sweet fall look. Toss in some suede booties to complete the ensemble!
  3. With gingham: Oh my goodness. I just love gingham. It is so classy and cute and vintange and just all around adorable! Tuck a gingham button up into your white jeans, or just tuck in the front and let the rest of the shirt hang loose, and layer in a thin tan belt. I would wear some white Keds sneakers with this duo!

People will forget the phrase “don’t wear white past Labor Day” when they see how cute you look in your fall white jeans ensembles!
