I recently came across a sign outside a church that asked this question: “What are you worshipping? A person, a possession, or a profession?” It really stuck with me and weighed on my heart for quite some time.

Many times throughout life, you will find yourself placing things above God, no matter how good, holy, or obedient you try to be. It’s part of human nature to go through phases of prioritizing things over others, whether it’s intentional or not.

So, consider these three categories: people, possessions, and professions. What do you struggle with placing below God and surrendering to him?

Maybe you’re in a relationship and your boyfriend is of utmost importance at this point in your life. He became your life and what you look forward to each and every day. Instead of going to God for validation, guidance, or joy, you look to him to fulfill all your needs. This is an example of prioritizing a person over God.

Maybe it’s your phone, your computer, your Netflix account, etc. that takes you away from God. I know there are times when my phone can act as a distraction while I’m spending time in the Word and pulls my mind and attention elsewhere. This is an example of prioritizing possessions over God.

Or maybe it’s your bank account that gets you out of bed in the morning. You’re so focused on having a successful career that money is the driving factor in your life. You never truly feel satisfaction because you’re always waiting for that next paycheck. This is an example of making your job your #1 priority.

When I think of those chasing after a career, money, success, etc., I think of Matthew 6:24. It says, “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Desiring a successful career is one thing, but to become obsessed with your job is another. When we put our hope and trust in the Lord, good things will come our way! He knows our past, present, and future and will guide us into what’s best for our lives.

People, possessions, and professions are good things to focus on throughout your life. It’s good to prioritize the important things that you care deeply about whether that be your boyfriend or your career, but it becomes a problem when we lose sight of God in the process.

Write down the top 10 things you consider your greatest priorities. Then consider how each one plays a role in your life. Does it take you away from God or push you closer to him? Do you often seek it out for satisfaction and fulfillment? These are good questions to ask yourself to know if you’re living for the right or wrong things.

God wants your love, attention, and dependence. Don’t ignore him by giving yourself to temporary, worldly things. Talk to him and let him guide your focus onto what’s important: God’s joy, love, peace, and eternal satisfaction!

Success and happiness are two things that we can all agree that we want. Success makes us feel accomplished, needed and important, and happiness makes life much more meaningful. Most times, though, we can feel like we are seeking success and happiness with no luck. We try and try,
but we can’t seem to grasp them. Here are 5 behaviors that cultivate happiness and success!

  1. Even if you feel fear about something, step up and give it a try. If you have always wanted to do something or try something but have been too scared to try, put your fear behind you and do it! You may just end up loving it. Living life in fear is no way to live.
  2. Talk nice to yourself. You are your biggest critic, so being conscious of the thoughts going around inside your mind and making sure they are positive and affirming is a great way to keep a optimistic view of yourself.
  3. Practice patience. We tend to want things right here and right now, but lots of time the waiting is worth it. Remind yourself that good things take time.
  4. Be grateful. Being thankful for things in life is a great way to change your outlook and will show you just how blessed you are.
  5. Show your body some love. Make your health a priority, because your body is the vehicle that takes you through life! Take care of it so it can take care of you.

He all have the potential to be successful and happy people! All we have to do is put in a little effort.

Failure can be a terrifying thing. You may think you have everything figured out until life takes an unexpected turn. You may be confused and not understand why you can’t succeed. There is much to know about failure including all of the wonderful blessings hidden throughout it. If you’re trying to get through a time of disappointment or failure, then this article is for you!Chelsea Crockett - Failure Quote

In 2 Corinthians 4:2, it says “We are persecuted, but God does not leave us. We are hurt sometimes, but we are not destroyed.” Even back in biblical times, God’s people felt pain, rejection, and of course, failure. Proverbs 24:16 says, “The righteous may fall seven times but still get up, but the wicked will stumble into trouble.” Like the picture above, God wants us to persevere, especially through times where we don’t believe we can.

I know you all have heard me talk about the verse Jeremiah 29:11 a numerous amount of times… But if you don’t know it, it says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I’ve always loved this verse because it constantly reminds me that I shouldn’t be afraid of failure or a little fork in the road. At the end of the day, God will provide a better plan than we could ever put together ourselves. Trust in God and know that we will be successful if we simply follow Him!

You’ve heard all the cheesy but true “new year, new you” quotes, but starting a new school year doesn’t always mean a new person. Maybe for you it’s simply a fresh start for grades, for friends, etc. There are three quotes that I think describe the start of a new school year perfectly, so here’s a little motivation :).Chelsea Crockett - Success Quote

    1. Alright… Is an article about quotes really an article without Dr. Seuss at least once? I really love this quote: “You’re off to great places. Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting. So get on your way!” For me, I’m starting my senior year. So knowing I’m onto bigger and better things gives me a little motivation every morning!
  • “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” Obviously, we all have to go to school, but doing it with a better and more positive mindset is the key to success. The first thing you should do when you wake up is choose to have a positive outlook on the day. It really makes a difference!
  • Taylor Swift is the queen of quotes. She says: “This is a new year. A new beginning. And things will change.” Whatever grade you may be, you have to be ready for change. Especially for me, senior year will come with a lot of adapting, knowing I’ll be doing a lot of things for the last time. Be open for change!

Have an amazing school year filled with success and memories :).
