For most people cool weather = dry skin. Dry skin = bad news. Sugar scrubs are one of my favorite dry skin remedies because they smell heavenly and make my skin feel incredibly smooth. To celebrate the start of the cool-weather seasons, aka FALL YA’LL, here is a recipe for pumpkin vanilla sugar scrub! It layers vanilla scrub with vanilla-pumpkin scrub to create a “candy corn” look. What could be more festive than that?

Ingredients

  • Vanilla Sugar Scrub
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1/4 cup coconut oil
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vanilla- Pumpkin Sugar Scrub
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 1/2 cup coconut oil
    • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/8 teaspoon ground clove
    • Optional: red and yellow liquid food coloring

Vanilla Sugar Scrub:

Heat the coconut oil on the stove until it is melted. Add in the vanilla extract and stir until fully combined. Add vanilla and coconut mixture to the sugar and stir.

Vanilla-Pumpkin Sugar Scrub:

Heat the coconut oil on the stove until it is melted. Add in the spices and vanilla, and stir until fully combined. Add the liquid to the sugar and stir it together. Right now the mixture will be a light brown color. Divide it into two bowls for coloring if you want it to look like candy corn!

  • To create the yellow layer
    • 4 drops of yellow food coloring
  • To create the orange layer
    • 4 drops of yellow and 3 drops of red for the red layer.
    • No worries, this amount of food coloring will not color your skin!

Scrub that dry skin away, and smell like a pumpkin pie while doing it. I call that a win-win. 😉

XOXO, Chels

Not only is grapefruit a tasty snack, but it also has amazing beauty uses! Grapefruit has lots of skin benefits because it contains a lot of vitamins A and C and is also packed with anti-oxidants that help protect your skin from damage. The scrub I am about to introduce to you can also renew damaged skin! Here is how to make this refreshing scrub.

Ingredients:lucrecerbraxton_nx1_16-50mm_041915-6-700x467

  • 1 grapefruit
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1-3 tablespoons apricot oil

After you have eaten the fruit inside of the grapefruit, cut out the center innards and put it in your blender along with any other fruit or juice left over. Add in a cup of white sugar and a few tablespoons of apricot oil. Blend the mixture on medium or high until you have the perfect scrub consistency.

This scrub has a sweet summer twang to it and perfect to make on a “girls night.” Have fun pampering yourself!

I am pretty sure every exfoliating teenage girl is familiar with sugar scrubs, but how many of us know about SALT scrubs? In this article I am going to lay out what both sugar and salt scrubs are and how they differ so you can choose which is best for you! It is important to use some sort of scrub to exfoliate your skin to open your pores so your skin can do what it is supposed to do, which is to get rid of toxins!

Salt scrubs: One thing you need to make sure of when using a salt scrub is that it is made I with sea salt. Using table salt is useless here because only sea salt can help draw out toxins in your body. Salt scrubs are usually used for dryer areas of your body such as your knees and elbows because salt is a lot coarser and sharper than sugar. Avoid sensitive areas when using a salt scrub and also avoid cuts…we all know what happens when you get salt in a wound! OUCH!double-bubble-sugar-scrub-for-teens-8-oz-4785-1

Sugar scrubs: These scrubs can be made with table or unrefined sugar. Table sugar is really great to use on your face because the granules are rounder than those of sea salt, so they are a lot gentler on areas with sensitive skin. Also, sugar scrubs dissolve relatively quickly in water and leave your skin feeling silky smooth! If you are looking for an all-over scrub that you can use everywhere on your body, go with a scrub made from unrefined cane sugar because it is slightly more abrasive than table sugar but it is not as irritating as salt.

There are tons of recipes out there for diy scrubs (especially on this website, hint hint!). What makes these scrubs even better is that they are all natural, so you know you aren’t using any harsh chemicals on your skin!

Happy scrubbing!

Hi Insiders,

Around the holiday times, cranberries are especially popular!  Between cranberry desserts, juice, and flavorings, your body will start to crave cranberries.  Surprisingly, your beauty routine craves this superfruit as well.  Known for its powerful cleansing powers and beautiful red hues, cranberry cleanser and cranberry inspired makeup should start filling up your bathroom!

Cranberries have exfoliating properties which make them great for scrubs and face washes.  The fruit is usually bitter and acidic, making it great for cleaning out pores and restoring your skin to its natural state.  One of my favorites is the Burt’s Bees cranberry and pomegranate sugar scrub.  This can be used on your whole body for deep cleaning.  It’ll also leave your skin feeling smooth. Chelsea Crockett- Burt's Bees cranberry pomegranate sugar scrub

Not only do cranberries have amazing cleansing powers, but the shade and smell have influenced makeup aisles everywhere!  Cranberry, a sweet shade of red, is perfect for the holiday season and can be carried over to Valentine’s Day.  It looks amazing on nails and lips!  Even try a cranberry scented body splash for a sweet smelling day!  Don’t hesitate, start buying cranberry products today!

Love,

Chelsea
