When you think about your summer wardrobe, I’m sure it consists of lots of shorts, dresses, skirts, and swimsuits!  And what do all of these things have in common?  Your legs will show!  I always like to make sure my legs are in tip-top shape during the warm months, especially swimsuit season.  Here is a step-by-step guide to prepare your legs for the summer!

Step #1: Exfoliate.  Chelsea Crockett - ExfoliaterThis is the first step because it gets rid of any dead or damaged skin which prepares the perfect base for hydrating and shaving.  It evens out the skin and leaves behind what’s healthy and new instead of what’s dead and old.  And an even better tip?  Use an exfoliator with sea salt!

Step #2: Hydrate.  Since exfoliating consists of scrubbing and roughing up your skin, you’ll need to follow it with a little hydration!  Look for lotions that have nourishing and replenishing properties, not just those that smell good.  This should thoroughly moisturize any dry skin cells and prepare them for a smooth, even shave!

Step #3: Shave.  This step is pretty self-explanatory.  We all know that shaving makes our legs feel and look super smooth, which is perfect for shorts weather!

Step #4: Hydrate again/tan up.  Shaving, just like exfoliating, can sometimes dry out your skin.  I suggest hydrating again!  Then after you lotion-up, try a self-tanner that will leave your legs with a bronze glow!

I hope this guide helps you out this summer!

How to Get Tan for Summer: The Safe Way

Being tan is one of my favorite things about summer. Although my summer is filled with lots of travelling and events, I still find time to soak up some rays. Too many teenage girls get caught up in the idea of being tan and take desperate measures to do so. Here’s how you can get tan this summer… the safe way!

Before summer, I like to have a little color, especially for prom, graduation, etc. Instead of going tanning, which can be really bad for your skin, I sometimes use a bronzing mousse from Vita Liberata.Chelsea Crockett - Vita Liberata Tanning Mousse My favorite of their products is the 2-3 Week Tan Mousse in Medium. After applying, your skin will develop a darker tan within 4-8 hours. No harm done! It gives your skin a much more natural tan than other tanning lotions I’ve used in the past. This product provides you with a mitt to apply the mousse without any streaks or splotches.

No matter how many times your skin sees the sun throughout the day, it is crucial to wear sunscreen. More and more everyday skin products, such as some liquid foundations and BB creams, have included a built in SPF which prevents the sun’s rays from harming your skin. I’ve read so many different articles and have watched several videos that say wearing sunscreen everyday will do your skin wonders. You might as well give it a try!

Make your skin happy this summer by being smart when you’re having fun in the sun!

Products to Cure Your Beach Depression!

When this time of the year rolls around, my excitement for summer starts to kick in. (And all of the pics of my friends at the beach over spring break surely don’t help!) The warm weather is finally here where I live which is one step closer to no school and sunny days! There are a few products I love to use when summer withdrawals start to kick in.

  1. I love covering myself in lotion the minute I get out of a warm shower. Chelsea Crockett - Bath and Body Hawaiian ScentsThe number one place to shop for my fave lotions is Bath & Body Works® (of course!). They have a line of Hawaiian scents in lotions, gels, body washes, etc. You can get a mango surf scent from Maui or a beach coconut smell from Waikiki. There’s a couple other aromas you can choose from as well!
  2. One of my top goals each year is to (hopefully) get as tan as I can during the summer! And with prom right around the corner, I like to try a couple self-tanners out to see if they can get the job done a little early. One that I’ve tried that turned out looking extremely natural is the L’Oreal® Sublime Bronze™ Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion. It doesn’t leave streaks and leaves you with a bronzed, beautiful body!
  3. During the summer, my hair actually turns a lot lighter! It’s like the sun gives me natural highlights, which I love! There are products that actually speed up this process and enhance those highlights. Sun-In hair lightener works really well and can be bought for only $4.99 at Ulta (or you can buy online, just click here!). You have to be careful because using too much might not turn out too well. Read the directions carefully and you’ll be just fine!

Hopefully these give you a sun kissed feeling when you’re missing the warm weather!

Oh, the struggle of wanting to be tan… UGH!  I think many girls have this dilemma! Rumors have it that tanning beds aren’t too good for your skin and in Illinois you have to be 18 years old to tan in one.  So instead of risking it to actually go tanning, I’ve been on the huntChelsea Crockett - L'Oreal Self Tanner for a good self-tanner. Especially being a 17 year old in my state, why not?  In the past, I’ve used L’Oreal® Paris Sublime Self-Tanning Bronzer.  It works really well without streaking or leaving an orange tint.  I also don’t notice a smell like other tanners seem to have.  Overall, it works great, but there are plenty others to experiment with as well!

Recently, I received Vita Liberata Luxury Tanning System.  It’s a two to three week tanning mousse that you put on with a mitt.  It’s supposed to be odor free, long lasting, and a perfect fade.  I’m anxious to give it a try!  Vita Liberata also has Trystal bronzing minerals that you apply just like a powdered Bronzer over your moisturizer.  It’s supposed to be the first self-tanning bronzer that leaves a natural tan and lasts up to five days (perfect for prom!).

If you have a special self-tanner that works well, leave a comment below and I’ll give it a try!

Every color is important in a wardrobe, but the colors of the season are the real eye-catchers!  Each season has its own special colors that show up on the runway and end up in every store!  Here are the colors of the summer and how you can incorporate them in your wardrobe!Chelsea Crockett- sea form green bikini

It’s all about the ocean!  Called the “Aquamarine” trend on the runways, sea foam green and aqua blue are two of the brightest colors to hit stores this summer.  Try a fun sea foam green bikini or aqua blue maxi with gold accessories.  Also, ditch the tight dresses and opt for a flowy, princess-like dress.  Another one of my favorite color trends is classic navy blue.  Navy, denim blue isn’t just for your jeans anymore!  Try a navy blouse with dark shorts or maxi skirt for an all over classic look.  Surprisingly enough, navy can actually make you look tanner!  You can even try pairing it with nude or tan (another 2015 summer color).

With the Boho trend still on the rise, reddish brown has made a big comeback!  Try wearing it with an oversized tee, denim shorts, and leather booties.  It also looks great with a boho style dress or crochet top.  There are so many possibilities with these wonderful summer colors.  Comment below which one of these colors you’ll be rocking this summer!

Our skin and overall complexion changes drastically from winter to summer. From pale to tan, no freckles to a face full of freckles, and a bad complexion to a good complexion…this change calls for a full “makeup makeover”! So how exactly do you go about switching over your makeup? What do you keep and what do you set aside for a few months? I’ve got you covered!Chelsea Crockett- bright lipstick

In the winter it’s all about faking the tan with bronzer and rocking a dark or nude lip. This is not the case for the summer! Since your skin will already be tan, ditch the foundation (except for covering up blemishes) and bronzer and stick with an icy pink blush. It’s great to contrast the dark and light colors. Don’t try to make yourself tanner by adding bronzer to your already bronzed face. It’s also time to swap your maroon lipstick for hot pinks and orange! These colors will make you look tanner and can actually act as an accessory to a plain colored dress or outfit. It’s also important to realize that less IS more! Ditch the dark eyeshadow and heavy eyeliner and go all-natural! All you really need is a good icy blush, mascara, and some fun lipstick to give yourself the perfect summer makeover. HAPPY SUMMER INSIDERS!

XOXO,

Chelsea

The RIGHT Way to Use Self-Tanner

Getting tan is number one on most girls’ lists for the summer.  While lying by the pool, with sunscreen of course, is the most natural way, self-tanning lotion is another way to achieve the perfect glow without hitting the tanning bed!  While it may look like a simple lotion, prepping for self-tanner is key to an all-around, non-streaky, perfect tan. Chelsea Crockett- shaving

Self-tanner is a wonderful way to get an all-around body tan without harming your skin.  Before applying the lotion, it’s important to get your body ready.  Start by shaving your legs and exfoliating your entire body.  If your skin is dry, the tanner may peel off; likewise, a razor can strip off the tanning lotion as well.  Once you’re out of the shower, dry off as much as you possibly can.  Do not leave a drop of water!  In places that tend to be dry, such as your nose, knees, and elbows, apply a lightweight lotion to those areas and rub it in well.

Next, apply your tanner all over your body starting from the bottom up.  Remember, when applying it to your face…go light.  You don’t want to add too much to the focal point of your body!  Always wait for the lotion or spray to dry longer than it says in the directions.  For example, if it says to wait 10 minutes, wait 20.  A major problem with self-tanner is the ability for it to transfer to your clothes.  To avoid this from happening, lightly brush baby powder all over to secure your tan and avoid a clothing mishap.

There you have it!  Your 101 guide to a flawless tan!

End of Summer To-Do List!

Well, most of us have settled into school by now and that means our lazy days of summer have ended.  Soon we will be going to football games dressed in our sweaters and scarves. However, I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet.  I’ve been thinking about some things I could still do with my friends to enjoy these last few weeks of HOT weather!

One thing on my list is to try to keep my summer tan for a bit longer.  Hopefully I can swim on the weekends and chill at the pool.  Why not host an end of the summer party?  Take some fun pictures and make a scrapbook with them.  Scrapbooking can sometimes take a long time so I tend to let Snapfish help me with it.  It’s a website that takes your pictures and lets you design your own book… or they can design it for you!  It’s really reasonable and lets you capture your memories in a really fun way!  (Hint:  These make great gifts for your friends!) Chelsea Crockett - Snapfish

Another idea is to spend some time reading that book you said you wanted to read all summer long!  (If you’re not a reader, I bet there is a TV or Netflix series you’ve always wanted to try!) Either way, I’m going to try to finish my homework early and settle in for some “me” time!  I love to get lost in a good book!

Last, but not least, make some delicious snow cones!  If you’re just not ready to say goodbye to summer and sunshine, eat a few cold, yummy treats!  We have a little snow cone maker that we bought at Target along with the syrups and the paper cones.  All we do is add ice and voila….a delicious snow cone!  I love to have one on a hot day!

Enjoy, Chels

Summer is all about the laid back lifestyle: not a care in the world, beach wave hair, and minimal makeup.  Once your skin gets tanner, it’s easier to leave out your foundation!  Try this minimal makeup look with 3 simple products: blush, mascara, and lip gloss.Chelsea Crockett- lip gloss mascara blush

Have you ever wanted that California lifestyle makeup look?  Well, I’ve got it for you!  In Cali, it’s all about letting your natural beauty shine through.  Since your skin will already be tan, there is no need for bronzer!  Try dusting a light pink blush on your cheek bones to give your face a little color!  Next, apply black mascara to your lashes to make your eyes pop!  In this case, eye shadow and eyeliner are not needed.  It would over power the look.  Last, pick out your favorite shade of lip gloss and apply it to your lips.

If you’re all about makeup, I challenge you to try this look.  Although it’ll be different, show everyone how naturally beautiful you are!  Remember, everyone is beautiful!

I love you all!

What’s Your Best Color?

So, you have blonde hair and pale skin.  You love how some colors look on you and hate others.  Why is that?  Well, everyone has certain colors that look best on them based off their skin tone and hair color.  Everyone is different, so choosing the right colors is important for a killer outfit!

Having blonde hair usually means you have lighter skin, which calls for special color choices.  If you have blue eyes, then definitely go for a royal or icy blue.  This will really highlight your eyes without making you look washed out.  Pink and green are also complementary colors for blonde haired people.  Pink will give you that “cool” complexion, while green enhances gold hues in your hair.  Last, nudes, neutrals, and silver are also a safe bet for blondes.  These colors add warmth to your complexion making you appear to be tanner than you are.Chelsea Crockett- neutral colors

Deep and bold toned colors are best for brunettes.  Since brunettes typically have a more olive or tanner complexion, it’s easier to pull off bold colors.  The true winners for brunettes are red, orange, and jewel-toned colors such as plum, ruby, emerald green, and gold.  All of these colors highlight the dark tones in your hair and can pull out red hues if you happen to have a red tint in your hair, such as auburn.  All of these colors complement your skin tone and hair color at once.

If you have red hair, make sure to avoid red, yellow, and orange in your wardrobe.  These color choices would be overkill for your complexion giving it a reddish tint.  Instead go for greens, navy blue, lavender, and shades of brown.  These colors will complement your skin tone, keeping your skin from looking red.  For a burst of color try turquoise to really bring out your red hair.

Knowing how to work your hair color and skin tone are important for a to-die-for look.  Next time you’re out shopping, keep an eye out for these specific colors!

Love,

Fake a Summer Tan Even in the Winter!

Hi Girls,

Fall and winter are great times of the year!  Unfortunately, it’s that time when your summer tan fades.  So what should you do to keep that summer glow all winter long?  Check out a few of these beauty tips to get a nice tan without hitting the tanning bed!

In the winter, most of your body is covered up with clothing.  If you’re just looking for a glowing face and not planning on sporting a bathing suit any time soon, then go for a powered bronzer!  Apply your foundation as you normally would and begin highlighting your cheek bones with a bronzer suitable for your skin tone.  Since your skin is lighter in the winter, don’t use your summer bronzer, it’ll be too over powering.  Try a lighter bronzer and after highlighter your cheek bones, apply a small amount to the rest of your face.  To top off your look, use a light pink blush to get that summer shine.Chelsea Crockett- bronzer blush duo

If you want that all around summer glow, go for a tanning lotion!  Try Jergans Natural Glow for a streak free summer tan!  After showering, rub it in like normal lotion and let it dry for about 10 minutes.  You won’t see results right away, so do this every day for about a week!  Don’t go to a tanning bed to get that beautiful summer glow.  Take the healthy route and get the tan you’ve always wanted!

Love you all!
