As teenagers, we still have so much life left to live.  I’ve always wondered how people at the end of their lives feel looking back on their own lives.  Are they filled with happiness?  Or regret and unfulfillment?  I found a post online that listed a few life lessons from an 80-year-old.  I found them inspiring and wanted to share some of them!

  • Look people in the eye.” Chelsea Crockett - Bible verseEye contact is important and the ability to have that is a good quality to have!  It tells people that you’re really interested in the conversation.  This is something our generation needs to learn how to do!
  • “Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.”  I’ve always loved the quote, “be the person you want to meet.”  We should all strive to be the best person we can be!  
  • “Make it a habit to do nice things for people who will never find out.” Doing something nice for someone is easy, but doing it without getting any recognition is what we can often struggle with.  Try it sometime! 
  • “Loosen up. Relax. Nothing is as important as it first seems.”  I live by this advice!  It is so important to let go of things and know that you’re probably stressing over nothing anyway. 
  • “Be bold and courageous.”  There’s a verse in the Bible that says the same thing.  Take risks and get out of your comfort zone!  Life’s too short to let opportunities pass you by.

You always hear that giving up is never an option.  Every time you hear those two words, they automatically give off a negative connotation.  You’re always told to “never give up,” and most of the time I agree.   But in certain cases, giving up can be considered a good thing!

  1. When it comes to standards, we should give up trying to meet everyone’s expectations. Chelsea Crockett - Giving Up We’re not perfect people and we’ll never be!  Once you admit that to yourself and know you can never be what everyone wants you to be, you’ll be much happier at the end of the day.
  2. Give up complaining and a negative mindset.  Constant complaining weighs down not only yourself but those around you.  How can you be in a good mood when all you’re doing is pointing out the negatives?
  3. Give up the past.  If you can’t give up the past, then you can’t move forward.  Letting go of any mistakes or regrets that can’t be changed is healthy!  There’s no need to worry about things that are over and done with when you could be focusing on improving yourself for the future!

Sleeping makes up a large part of our day. Teenagers are supposed to get a recommended 7-9 hours of sleep a night… That’s a long time if you think about it so why waste it? Acne can be improved over night using certain ingredients and products. Make use of your time and treat your skin while you sleep using these simple tips :)!Chelsea Crockett - Spot Treatment

  • Spot treatments are good for drying up breakouts and acne overnight. Apply it carefully so the rest of your skin stays moisturized and hydrated! You can find these for a cheaper price at most local drugstores like the Neutrogena one on the right. I promise you these are worth it!
  • Instead of actually buying a spot treatment, use aloe vera to calm down your skin! The reason your skin is breaking out is because it’s swelling and becoming inflamed. Aloe vera soothes your skin and reduces redness. Apply it on your acne before you go to sleep and let it work its magic!
  • Of course, we’ve all heard of the toothpaste trick. Apply a white toothpaste (not a gel) to your acne or pimple to dry it out while you sleep.
  • Eggs aren’t just for eating. You can use egg whites by whisking them and applying the ingredient to your irritated area. You can even use them for reducing acne scarring! It’s a two in one solution!

As my senior year is nearing to an end, I can’t help but reflect on the past four years of my high school career. There are both things I wish…

As my senior year is nearing to an end, I can’t help but reflect on the past four years of my high school career. There are both things I wish I would’ve done and things that I would change. I thought I’d share some advice I wish I would’ve considered at the start of my freshman year. 

  • Be too friendly. Say hi to even the people you barely know. You might not be friends with everyone at the end of the day but being kind goes a lot further than you think. 
  • Go to every football game, every dance, every play. You might not know it yet, but these events will be where most of your memories are made. Chelsea Crockett - Senior Year
  • Take lots of pictures and videos! My friends know every time we do something I’ll usually have my camera or phone ready to go. Trust me, it’ll be worth it to capture every moment!
  • Get involved! There are so many clubs I would’ve joined if I knew how fun it is to be involved and meet people outside of your class, sport, etc.
  • Don’t worry too much about not having a boyfriend. I cannot stress this enough! Most high school relationships come with drama and added stress. That being said, don’t be afraid to go on dates or be in relationships. Just know your worth and save most of your time for your friends and family!
  • Lastly, don’t overthink that one bad grade you got on a test. Most of the time, you won’t even remember that grade in a year, or even a month.

Whether you’re a freshman or a soon-to-be graduate, make the rest of high school years count!

And when I get the opportunity, it’s often hard falling asleep with thoughts whirling through my head. Anybody else know the feeling?   • Stress is often the number one cause of insomnia. Take a deep breath and think of all of the good things in your life. Remember that what you’re stressing about probably won’t matter in a year or maybe even a week!
  • Lavender scent is proven to relieve stress and make you calmer and more relaxed. Apart from burning a lavender scented candle, you can buy (or even make!) your own lavender scented spray to mist your pillows and blankets with. It might not solve all of your problems, but it might put you at ease!
  • A lot of sites say that this tip actually works! Instead of using your bed for a place to do homework, watch TV, binge-watch Netflix, etc., use it solely for sleeping. That way your brain and body can use it as a signal for sleep. It may not work for you but it’s worth a try!
  • If you’ve been lying in bed for a while and can’t fall asleep, try doing a quiet activity that allows your brain and body to calm down. Reading is a great alternative for checking Twitter or Instagram. This way you’re not staring at a bright screen.

When I see the words “stress relief” on a product, I’m automatically drawn in. Under piles of homework, hours of practice, and several shifts of work… yikes! We could use some unwinding. I’ve discovered a few things that work to relive stress and anxiety that are all they actually say they are. Here are my 5 faves!

  1. Bath products are an amazing way to unwind. Just pop in a bath bomb and hop into the tub. You can sit back, smell the scents, and relax in the hot water. Lavender scents and spearmint are excellent anti stressors, so make those your top choices!Chelsea Crockett - Stress Relief Lotion
  2. Citrus fruits are another way to help calm your nerves. Apparently, eating and/or smelling them prevents a spike in anxiety reducing cortisol. They are called Vitamin C stress busters!
  3. Outdoor exercise is an excellent way to relieve your stress. Research suggests that being in nature helps you to get-up-and-go and reduces exhaustion. So take a bike ride or go for a jog…. it’ll help get your energy levels up!
  4. At Bath & Body Works, you can find Stress Relief Aromatherapy lotion. With its variety of scents from spearmint to tangerine, I love applying it after I get out of the shower or before I go to sleep not only to vanish away the stress but to smell good too!
  5. Meditation is proven to reduce stress and negative emotions. Try taking a yoga class or do it by yourself by dimming the lights and setting a soothing atmosphere. Get comfortable and watch the stress melt away.

As teenagers, there are many things we have to start paying for. Whether it be a car, gas, college, or simply a new pair of shoes you’ve been wanting, we have to find jobs to support our needs… or wants :). Job interviews and having the spotlight on you might not be your cup of tea, so I’m here to give you some advice on how to kill it anyway!

  • Be confident. You have just as much of a shot as anyone else. Just be focused and know that confidence is key! You have to believe in yourself in order to have success.Chelsea Crockett - Interview Tips
  • Be professional. Some people think it’s overrated to make eye contact, shake hands, be polite, arrive on time, dress appropriately, etc. It’s not! A lot of bosses who are in charge of hiring employees will look for these things. It shows you’re not only personable but confident, too.
  • Be honest. If you don’t have experience, don’t say that you do! If you can only work certain days, tell them! Don’t sugarcoat anything then end up in a jam when you’re hired. This being said, don’t hesitate to talk yourself up by addressing your good qualities!
  • Be prepared. A lot of job interviews ask the same questions: “Do you have experience?” “Why are you good for this job?” “What are your positive qualities?” Most places will require a resume usually prior to the interview as well.

As most of you know, it’s college application season! Although it’s exciting, it can be exhausting on top of school, YouTube, sleep, and a social life. There are certain struggles…

As most of you know, it’s college application season! Although it’s exciting, it can be exhausting on top of school, YouTube, sleep, and a social life. There are certain struggles that come along with applying for colleges and I’m here to help you out with them! I know how you feel :).

Alright… let’s talk about the main complaint of college apps: the amount of time they take! Although some colleges’ and universities’ applications only take about ten minutes or so, some can take fooooorever! When I saw that a majority of the colleges I was applying to required essays, I wasn’t too excited! If you’ve come across some tricky or confusing prompts like me, you know what I’m talking about. Here’s my suggestion: get help from your English teacher! They’ll help you more than you think. They can not only give advice about how to write your essay but how to minimize the amount of time you put into them too. Perfect!

Another Chelsea Crockett - Jeremiah 29:11struggle is paying the price to apply to a college. You might be thinking, “Why do I have to pay if I might not even go there?” If money is tight and you don’t have a lot to spend on apps, write down the pros and cons of each college and narrow it down to your top three. This won’t only save you money but stress in the long run too!

Since hours spent on applications and essays isn’t enough, why not spend hours stressing about where you’ll end up for college too? My comfort for this comes from God and knowing that his plan is better mine. Just have faith and trust that everything will turn out right, wherever you end up. Just sit back and relax and let God take control!

Tips on Letting Go: It’s Not Easy!

As teenagers, we deal with a lot of letting go. You might have to say goodbye to someone who was once a best friend or a boy who isn’t good…

As teenagers, we deal with a lot of letting go. You might have to say goodbye to someone who was once a best friend or a boy who isn’t good for you anymore. I can tell you from personal experience, it’s tough! It will never quite be easy, but here are things you can do to lighten the toll it can take.

First off, when you’re done with something, solely be done with it, especially when it comes to boys. It’s usually not a good idea to text or hang out with someone you’re trying hard to get over. Seeing and talking to them will only make you miss them more. You need to know life without them or else you won’t be able to move on. Of course a “how have you been” text occasionally is okay, but talking to them 24/7 can become a hard habit to break.Chelsea Crockett - Let Go

When we see people drifting away, we often cling onto them because we aren’t used to life without them. You need to realize when a person is toxic in your life. Ask yourself, “does he or she make me a better person?” If you find yourself not being able to answer this, then nine times out of ten the answer is no. This should be a red flag! Realize your worth and that you can walk away from these situations.

You may be reading this and thinking “it’s not that easy” and I know it’s not. But once you realize the strength you have to do these things and finally let go, your life will become less stressful and more enjoyable. Praying about it and trusting that God will help you move on is another easy suggestion that will make all the difference. Trust me!

That dreaded time of the year where all of us have to wake up early and get back into a routine is here again. While I don’t necessarily love school, I do try to make the best of it!  I wanted to share a couple tips to help chase away the blues whether they’re school related or not!

Our minds tend to wander and often times that leads to worry. Fear of the unknown can make us anxious, especially when starting a new year of school. I’ve recently read a book that talks aboutChelsea Crockett - Worry Quote taking control of your mind and thinking on purpose.  You can start by thinking with a grateful heart. As soon as your mind starts to drift to negativity or worry, change the channel and think of good things about the situation. It really works!

If your mind is busy thinking about the things you’re thankful for there won’t be room for worry or sadness. I’m a firm believer that positivity is the key to almost anything in life. So… you can start there and then think with a purpose and plan. Hopefully, your blues will be washed away!

We all know how important it is to get outside and exercise.  Most of us sit in school all week long and are guilty of being on our phones for much too longer than we should. Exercise is so important for our health, and most teens aren’t getting enough of it! Staying active will help Chelsea Crockett - Benefits of Cardioyou maintain the performance of your heart and lungs and to burn off extra calories to help you stay fit. The great debate is over which exercise is best for doing just that!

The big question is which exercise is better, cardio or strength?  The answer is both!  Building strong muscles through strength training is so important because muscles burn calories.  Therefore, activating your muscle building boosts your metabolism for longer amounts of time.  Cardio, on top of strength training, burns fat and keeps your heart healthy.

Exercising can be fun and enjoyable especially if you find a friend to do it with.  Bike riding, running, aerobics, and rollerblading are all examples of cardio exercises.  While yoga, free weights, and Pilates are all good strength training activities.  Be sure to include both cardio and strength training in your weekly workouts.  You’ll be pleased with the results and not only your endurance but your mood will be boosted too!

This topic may not be on your radar yet, but some day it just might be.  It’s time for me to start looking at universities to attend after high school!  Crazy, right? I can’t believe how quickly my high school years are flying by. College is a major decision, and most teenagers don’t even know where to begin!  I’ve been reading about how to choose a college that’s 100% right for me. So… I’m going to share some tips that might help guide you as well! Chelsea Crockett - Colleges

First and foremost, you’ll need to decide if you want to stay close to home, stay somewhat distanced, or go far away.  You also need to consider if you want to go to a big school with 40,000 students or a smaller campus around 1,500.  Then comes COST!  Obviously the price of a university matters greatly and can most of the time be the deal breaker. You’ll need to consider your ACT score, class rank, GPA, any service projects, and other things that will help when it comes to scholarships.

Other thoughts to consider are sports, Greek life, arts, cultural groups, and community service.  I’ll want to know what the extracurricular activities are at the university I choose.  Everyone tells me that the best way to decide is to narrow down my search by looking at the above items and then to make sure I go on at least five different college visits.  Make sure to keep an open mind at each visit and see which one has that special “feel” for you!

It’s almost 2015 which means it’s time to think about what you want to leave behind in 2014.  Time to reflect and rethink things you like and dislike about your Chelsea Crockett - New Years Quotelife.  Time to make resolutions to change your life for the better!  Perhaps you need to switch up your eating and exercising habits.  Or maybe even make new friends?  Whatever you’re thinking, it’s time to set goals and objectives for the new year!

New Year’s resolutions don’t always mean setting them solely for ourselves. As teens, we’re becoming more independent from our families and relying on friends more often.  Do we need to spend more time with our friends or family to make them feel important?  What could we change in our lives to make those people feel special?

Probably the most popular resolution we should consider making would be to eat healthy and exercise!  Whether you’re thin or overweight, it’s important to get the necessary amount of activity to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  It’s recommended for the average high school student to get 60 minutes of physical activity per day (if you can even find 60!). Simply setting a goal of 30 minutes, five days a week would be a start!

Last but not least would be to look at our effort and ability in school.  If we struggle in a certain area, how about working to change that B to an A? Studying more, staying organized, getting more sleep… Whatever your resolution is, I would love to hear about it!  Let me know below and maybe I’ll join you!

“Sleep considered to be sufficient to keep one looking young and beautiful.” This is the real definition of what us girls call beauty sleep. Whether sleep really helps us stay looking awake and youthful, there is some evidence behind the truth of it. So… beauty sleep: real or fake?

You all know the feeling of staying up way too late for a big test the next morning. Then, the minute you wake up and look in the mirror, the bagsChelsea Crockett - Dark Circles under your eyes show everyone else just how much sleep you actually got. Dark circles are one of the first indicators of lack of sleep. And let’s face it, we all hate dark circles and would do anything to get rid of them. Sleep really does help and is one of the only ways to fully reduce those awful circles!

Sleep benefits more than just tired eyes. Your skin actually replenishes and repairs itself faster while you sleep. A lack of sleep can slow or disrupt this process. As teenagers, we’re supposed to get a recommended 8 hours of sleep. Without enough of it, our skin ages faster. Along with that, your skin actually loses its radiance. It’s proven that little sleep can make your skin look duller.

Beauty sleep is REAL! A continued lack of sleep can actually make a difference. So ladies, buy a planner or make a schedule to make sure you get your hours in! You won’t only feel different but look different too!

Be Your Best in School!

It’s that time of year.  School is once again in session!  Of course most of us dread it but the reality is…we have to do it!  So I’ve decided to…

It’s that time of year.  School is once again in session!  Of course most of us dread it but the reality is…we have to do it!  So I’ve decided to put a few things together to help us all be successful. (My mom’s a teacher and believe it or not…..I’ve asked her opinion!)

One thing that is so important is for students to try to get to know their teachers.  Teachers can be very busy and have a lot of students on their rosters.  Most teachers, however, really want to get to know their students and what is going on in their lives.  It’ll help you and your teachers communicate a lot better!

Another tip is to take good notes and write things down in your agenda or notebook.  It’s super helpful to have notes in front of you as a reminder.  It’s hard to try to remember everything after switching from subject to subject.  Jot down homework assignments, notes to return, supplies you might need, anything you may need to tell your parents, etc. Being organized pays off! Lastly, get a good night’s sleep and eat a good breakfast.  Don’t spend all night on your phone with your friends. Put your phone/laptop away by 10pm and go to sleep!  It’s really hard to function throughout the day without catching some ZZZ’s.  Your mind will be sharper and your body will be well rested for the long day ahead of you!
