In preparation for college, I have been looking up encouraging Bible verses to prepare both my heart and my mind for the transition. There are a lot of things I am nervous about, from getting along with roommates to making friends to succeeding in my classes. One verse that has calmed my anxious heart is Psalm 139:5, which says “ You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.”pslam

To me, this verse says that there is no need to worry about the future. God has gone before you and prepared the way for you. He already knows your future and what it holds, so there is no reason for YOU to fret about it. He has looked into the future and has seen the trials you will have, and he is preparing you for them right now. He places his hand of blessing on your head, which is a comfort to know. He has blessed you greatly and will continue to do so! Not only does God go before you, but He also follows you wherever you go. You are not alone, He is with you! When you feel nervous or anxious, just remember that whatever you are going through is in God’s plan.

God has blessed you in so many ways! Have comfort in knowing that he has gone before you and prepared a way for you!

Life Lessons from Daniel 3

Have you ever wanted something so bad and worked so hard for it…and then didn’t get it? And you wondered why God would do this to you, you deserved it, right? It could be a scholarship, boyfriend, job, winning a sports event, anything that you strive for and want more than anything. Daniel 3:17-18 gives us a little reality check when we don’t get the things we really want.daniel

Daniel 3:17-18 says “And if not, He is still GOOD.” This means that if God doesn’t give you what you want or badly desire or have strived for, He is still good. He knows what is best for you, and maybe getting the job or boyfriend would have led to something negative in the future. He knows how much you can handle in your life, and He knows what your life has in store for you. Think about all of the other things He has given you in your life! You are incredibly blessed. He is SO good!

So, when you don’t God doesn’t give you exactly what you want or have strived for, just remember all of the other blessings in your life and that He is good!

One of the most caring and thoughtful things you can do for your family is to pray for them. Whether you actually tell them you are or whether you keep it to yourself, praying for your family shows them that you deeply love them and that you care for them. It can bless you as well when you see your prayers for them being answered and when you see how God blesses their life because of your faithfulness! Your prayers can also help bring your family together and strengthen it. Here are 4 ways that you can pray for your family.

  1. For a pure heart and mind: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” – Proverbs 4:23. Pray that your family’s hearts and minds are guarded from the negative influences and sin in the world.FullSizeRender (37)
  2. For others to see God’s love through your family: “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16. Pray that your family’s example would point others toward God.
  3. For courage in the face of hardship: “Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6. Pray that your family will endure with courage through hard times. Be strong and courageous!
  4. For love: Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins. – 1 Peter 4:8. Pray that each member of the family has a genuine love for others.

Hopefully these verses help give you an idea of how to pray for your family! God has so many blessings in store for you and your family in the future!

What is Bible journaling? Lately I have seen adorable photos on Instagram and Pinterest of artwork in the margins of a Bible. Now, I’m no Picasso, but I do enjoy coloring and drawing as much as the next girl. Bible journaling is using drawings or notes in the margins of your Bible to journal how you feel about the verses, how they are relevant to your life, or prayers regarding the passage. Most people underline or star things in their Bibles, but journaling is taking it one step further!

Do you need a new Bible to begin journaling? Absolutely not! All you need is your own Bible, a pen, and some BibleJournalingConnie-778x1024colors. Also, don’t sweat it if you are not-so-artistically inclined. Your Bible journaling is your own personal art. If you are more of a writer, write in the margins. If you are a note taker, take notes! If you are a doodler, doodle your heart out! Use Bible journaling to write prayers in the margins and date them to come back and write when they were answered, write what God is speaking to you as you read the passage, write sermon notes, or even just thoughts on what you think the scripture is saying in your own words.

Bible journaling is a great way to enhance your quiet time with God. When you are inspired to remember a verse or point, draw or write next to the verse. It is so fun to look back through your Bible and see how you were feeling when you read something or how it spoke to you in that moment. It is also so cool to see how God answers prayers when reading the requests you dated in the margins!

I challenge you to become a Bible journal-er. I’m going to do my best to become one, too!

Start, Stay, and End with Jesus

“That is SO goals” ,“Omg GOALS!”, “They are total relationship goals.” How many times a day to we hear people say these phrases? To me, these words seem trivial. Is your goal to really have a relationship like that person? They may wish they had a relationship like yours. Instead of setting minute goals such as the ones the world tells us are worth our time and effort, I say we focus on one daily goal: to start, stay, and end with Jesus.

  1. Start with Jesus: Morning time alone with God is crutial to maintaining a healthy relationship with Him. If it means setting your alarm 10 minutes earlier so you can read your Bible or a short devotional when you get up in the morning, then do it. You will feel so much better, more prepared, and encouraged going into the day after spending time with God!d8e146298932786e62eabfa869fc76f5
  2. Stay with Jesus: During the day, send up little prayers to God when He crosses your mind. Are you worried about something? Pray about it. Stressed? Pray about it. Also, throughout your day, make sure you are acting and presenting yourself to others in a way that glorifies God and brings attention to Him by setting a positive example for your peers.
  3. End with Jesus: If this means a prayer right before you go to bed or sitting around the table with family at the end of the day and praying as a family, make sure you close out the day by spending time with the One who gave the day to you in the first place. Confess your sins to him and ask forgiveness, then pray that He would work through you in the days to come.

Start, stay, and end with Jesus every day. Your life will never be the same!

Prayer is a powerful thing. Having a solid prayer life is essential in strengthening your faith, and it can get you through the toughest of times. I must confess, when life gets hard I have no problem praying for what I want and need, but when my friends are going through tough times Im not as good about it! The best thing you can do for your friends is pray for them. Here are 4 prayers for your friends and mine.

  1. Jeremiah 17:7-8:Ask that the Lord would bless your friend as she trusts in the Lord. Pray that she would be like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots strong and deep by the stream, and has no need to fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit. Pray that God would make your friend strong, fruitful, and flourishing for His glory.il_340x270.678591084_c3z7
  2. Numbers 6:24-26: Pray that the Lord bless your friend and keep her; that He would make his face to shine upon her and be gracious to her; that the Lord would lift up His countenance upon her and give her peace.
  3. Proverbs 3:3-8: Pray that she would trust in the Lord with all his heart, and not lean on her own understanding. Ask that in all her ways she would acknowledge God, and God will make straight your friend’s paths. Entreat the Lord to help your friend not be wise in her own eyes, but to fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
  4. Psalm 138:7-8: Ask that when your friend walks in the midst of trouble, God would preserve her life. Claim His promise to stretch out His hand against the wrath of your friend’s enemies, to deliver her with His right hand. Remind God of His commitment to fulfill His purpose for your friend, and of His steadfast and endless love for her.

I hope my friends pray these prayers over me from time to time as well. What an encouragement to know that someone cares about you enough to lift you up in prayer!

Growing up a Christian girl, I always heard that women should strive to be “Proverbs 31 women.” What is Proverbs 31? It outlines what a woman of God should strive to be. It is a pretty long verse packed with a lot of great advice, and it can be pretty intimidating! I am going to break the verse down to help explain it to both you and myself! We can work on being Proverbs 31 women together.

Proverbs 31:15: She rises also while it is still night and gives food to her household and portions to her maidens.

  • What it means to us: Get up early enough to spend time with God. This helps prepare yourself for the day ahead.Proverbs-31

Proverbs 31:16: She considers a field and buys it; From her earnings she plants a vineyard.

  • What this means to us: Spend your money wisely! Don’t waste it all on clothes and material things. Use it wisely and to further the Kingdom of God.

Proverbs 31:17: She girds herself with strength and makes her arms strong.

  • What this means to us: Keep yourself physically strong and healthy, but also spiritually healthy.

Proverbs 31:20: She extends her hand to the poor, and she stretches out her hands to the needy

  • What this means to us: Have a servant’s heart and give your time and money to others.

Proverbs 31:25: Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future.

  • What this means to us: Have a positive attitude and be optimistic about the future!

Proverbs 31:27: She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.

  • What this means to us: Keep your stuff clean! AKA your room, car etc. Don’t be lazy!

Proverbs 31:26:  She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

  • What this means to us: Don’t gossip, encourage others with your words!

Proverbs 31:13: She looks for wool and flax and works with her hands in delight.

  • What this means to us: Work hard without complaining.

Proverbs 31:22:  She makes coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple.

  • What this means to us: Take care of your appearance.

Proverbs 31:30: Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

  • What this means to us: Live in a way that honors God and take care of your heart and spiritual life!

Being a Proverbs 31 woman is a challenge, but is one I am willing to accept!

As a Christian, I strive to have God as the center of all my relationships, including my romantic ones. God’s word gives us great guidelines for growth and a great foundation for relationships and it outlines the core principals of godliniess, purity, and unconditional love in the scriptures. If you are a believer in a relationship with another believer, these 4 verses are great to study in order to strengthen your relationship.

  1. Respect each other: Proverbs 22:1 says “A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.” This means that respecting each other’s boundaries, personalities, and thoughts gives couples the ability to humble themselves individually. This gives the relationship the opportunity to mature and for each person to give respect by demonstrating integrity, moral character, and devotion to God.f1cbb692e0c8b0738af1a392901ee2cc
  2. Encourage each other to grow spiritually: 2 Thessalonians 1:3 tells us to encourage our brothers and sisters to seek Christ and to grow spiritually. This shows maturity in relationships and strengthens them. A couple who prays together, goes to Bible study or church together, or fellowships with other believers is helping eachother flourish.
  3. Serve with each other: Hebrews 10: 24 says “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,” serving together in the community or in church is a great way to use your spiritual gifts to further God’s kingdom, AND to grow your relationship!
  4. Pray for each other and for others: Ephesians 6:18 encourages us to pray for each other and for others, because when we do, we will experience a greater closeness to God and each other.

The Bible encourages us to be in relationships where we are equally yoked, which means of the same faith. Being in a relationship with someone who holds the same beliefs as you really sets you up for success, and gives you a sense of confidence that you are both on the same page when it comes to issues of purity and what you believe.

How to Find Joy in the Hard Times

Sometimes life is just hard. Sometimes it can feel like life just isn’t fair. Why are bad things happening to me? Will I ever get through this? The answer is…

Sometimes life is just hard. Sometimes it can feel like life just isn’t fair. Why are bad things happening to me? Will I ever get through this? The answer is yes. And you do not have to go through it alone. We all go through trials and sorrow, Jesus himself tells us this in John 16:33! But, the good news? The pain you are going through right now cannot even compare to the joy that is coming! That is from Romans 8:18. Here are a few ways that you can find joy in the hard times.

  1. Have peace: The great thing about this life is that we aren’t walking through it alone, and we can have peace because wejoy know that God has a plan for our lives, and we can have peace in Him. Nothing surprises Him, he has it all planned out! Why worry about life when God has it all under control? Your book is already written! Have peace and know that Jesus has conquered death, and overcome the world. There is nothing He cannot do.
  2. Rejoice: You may be thinking “Rejoice? How can I rejoice when I feel like my world is falling apart? How can I rejoice when I feel so sad and alone?” When Paul and Silas were in a dungeon, beaten and shackled in a dark cell, they began praying and singing praises to God. While shackled! And beaten! Other prisoners saw them praising God even in their misery, and they were astounded. Their praising God in their darkest time showed the other prisoners just how much they loved their God. That is what we are called to do, rejoice in our misery because this will show others we trust God. Rejoice, because He is always there, He will never leave us!

You will be so surprised at how God can work in your life when you surrender your pain and sorrow to Him. He will open your eyes to the good in your life, He will put people in your life that will uplift and encourage you, and He will give you strength to get through every hardship you endure! Trust in Him and cast your burdens on Him, because he cares SO much for you.

When life throws a loop at you, it can be easy to question God.  Why does he take people we love away from us?  Why did I just lose my job?  Why are my friends being mean?  Situations like these can make God’s love feel almost invisible.  One must always remember that God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.  While it may seem hard to believe, God is always right next to you fighting these battles.  You are never alone and God’s love never fails.  When you start to question this, keep these in mind: Chelsea Crockett- Gods love

John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Romans 5:8 – “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  God loves us at our darkest.

1 John 3:1 – “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”

Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  He has a plan!

1 John 4:19 – “We love, because He first loved us.”

Mathew 6:34 – “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  God will take your worries for you.

God is good and his love endures forever!
