If you’re like me, then you love finding beautiful places to explore, especially when you didn’t even know they existed!  I always scroll through Tumblr and Instagram and find the most beautiful spots that I can add to my bucket list.  Here are five that you should add to your own “must-see” list!

  • Garden of the Gods – Colorado Springs, Colorado.  If you’ve never been, this place is amazing!  It’s filled with huge rocks and trees surrounded by the beautiful Rocky Mountains.  If you want a good photo op, then this is the spot for you!
  • Tamanawas Falls – Mt. Hood National Forest, Oregon.  If you want to submerge yourself in nature, visit this jaw-dropping waterfall.  It’s a big of a trek to get there, but it’s so worth it!Chelsea Crockett - Fort Jefferson
  • Fugitive Beach – Rolla, Missouri.  This place isn’t the most well-known in the country, but where I’m from, it’s a go-to hotspot!  People around the St. Louis area love to go there to hang with friends and even cliff jump!
  • Blue Lakes – San Juan Mountain, Colorado.  You’d never think that this blue of water actually exists in Colorado, but you’d be surprised at how vibrant the water is!  It’s so pretty and the mountains are an added perk.
  • Fort Jefferson – Key West, Florida.  Fort Jefferson is a historic landmark that’s been around for decades and is now a beautiful tourist destination!  Look at the picture to the right to see for yourself!

We’re getting down to the last few weeks of summer… so depressing, right? But it’s not too late to check off a few last-minute summer getaways! I know vacations are often expensive and hard to plan last-minute, but there are so many little getaways you can plan with your friends or family!

One obvious summer trip is to plan a camping weekend with your closest BFFs. Chelsea Crockett - CampingAlmost anywhere you can find a state park or campground that you can set up tents for cheap or even free! I like finding spots like these because lots of other campers are around and it’s totally safe! You can also bring stuff for a BBQ and s’mores to top off the night :).

Another getaway you can take is a float trip! You’ll need a few more supplies than camping but it’s totally doable. Make sure you pack snacks and lots of sunscreen since you’ll be out in the sun for most of your day. It’s so fun to get a group of people and go for a weekend!

Lastly, one of the best must-do opportunities of the summer is taking a road trip! I think that’s on everyone’s summer goals list! If your parents are good with it, take a road trip somewhere only a couple hours away so you don’t have to stay overnight if your parents aren’t okay with that. Perfect!

Make the rest of your summer worth it!

Dr. Chelsea is back again! And with the holidays coming up, airports will be packed and plane tickets will sell like no other time of year. Long, early flights to other time zones can really take a toll on any traveler, no matter where you might be headed. Once jet lag sets in, you may have little to no motivation for anything! Here are a few cures and tips on how to beat jet lag!

  1. Okay, I’m going to start out with the most obvious solution that I put in almost any advice article… HYDRATE! Water is the answer to everything. Making sure you’re not anywhere close to dehydration will help enormously.
  2. Be sure to follow a “jet lag diet.” I know how tempting it is to grab some quick airport food but that doesn’t mean your choices can’t be healthy. Find a good salad, sandwich, or wrap and go from there!Chelsea Crockett - Jet Lag Time
  3. Make sure you get enough sleep before your flight. Sleep deprivation is never a good idea when going into a new time zone. Get at least 8 hours every night leading up to your trip. I promise, it will make a difference!
  4. Plan ahead. If you like to keep your trips planned out and scheduled, add in some time for resting. Avoid doing anything in advance that’s going to wear you out even more then you will be.
  5. If you don’t have problems with sleeping on planes, schedule a night flight. Especially if your flight is long, sleeping it away is not a bad idea! It will also help the time fly by (literally!).
