Last week I got a day off of school because of snow and it was awesome! Snow days are the best days, am I right? If you have ever had a snow day, then you probably know about snow ice cream. If not, you’ve been missing out! When life gives you snow, make snow ice cream! It literally takes 5 minutes and is super delish!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milkice-cream
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 8 cups clean snow
  • Sprinkles are optional but highly recommended 🙂

In a big bowl, whisk the milk, sugar, vanilla and salt together until they are will combined. Go outside and scoop some fresh, clean snow. Immediately stir the snow into the milk mixture until you get your desired consistency. Top it off with sprinkles or any other ice cream toppings! Eat it up quickly because it will melt pretty fast!

Eat up!

Winter can really do a number on your skin. It can dry you out and do not-so-pretty things to it. Plus, it can feel itchy and uncomfortable. Want to know how to give your skin the attention it deserves this winter? Read on!

  1. Give your lips some love: Winter can cause your lips to become more and more chapped and dry. One way to care for your lips is to use a lip scrub on them. Get all of that yucky dry skin off! This also moisturizes your pout.download (3)
  2. Deal with dry skin: Don’t try and cover up your dry skin with makeup. Deal with it at the source! Exfoliate the dead skin off of your face before you apply makeup. It will get the flaky skin off. Moisturize after you exfoliate for maximum dry skin help.
  3. Moisturize often: Moisturize several times a day to prevent the dry skin mentioned above. Make sure your moisturizer has sunscreen in it to prevent wrinkles and skin cancer.
  4. Body lotion: Apply body lotion in the shower to lock in the hydration! Towel off in the shower and then slather on your lotion.

Hopefully these tips keep your skin happy this winter.

Is there anything better than a hot cup of hot chocolate on a chilly winter day? I think I found it…Nutella hot chocolate! Imagine the creamy, chocolatey goodness of Nutella, in hot liquid form. Mouth=watering. Here is how to make yourself a batch. Excuse me while I do so myself!

Ingredients:Nutella-Hot-Chocolate1

  • 4 cups skim milk
  • 2 tbsp Nutella
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar

This recipe is so easy, even my dogs could make it. Heat the milk in a medium saucepan on medium/high heat until it begins to warm and steam. Add the Nutella, sugar, and cocoa powder, then whisk until it is well combined and dissolved. Simmer it, stir it, then take it off of the heat. Pour yourself a glass, let it cool, and then top with your choice of toppings! My favorite is marshmallows and chocolate chips.

This recipe is fun and easy to make with friends!

Eat up 🙂

When’s a better time of year to go on a fun, festive date with your crush than Christmas time? With the holiday season finally here, there are tons of different themed date ideas to try out! Instead of the typical dinner-and-a-movie night, I came up with a few creative ideas to get you and your crush in the holiday spirit!

  • Have a Christmas movie/snack nice at home. Staying in for the night and watching a handful of classic Christmas movies sounds like the perfect (and not to mention inexpensive!) date night. Make some hot chocolate and enjoy!
  • Bake Christmas cookies together. This is one of my favorite things to do around the holidays. Make a bunch to give to friends and family and save some to snack on for yourselves later!
  • Drive around and look at Christmas lights. Where I live, everyone knows the good neighborhoods to look at Christmas lights in. Some houses go all out for the holiday season, and it’s fun to go for a night drive and search for them with your crush!Chelsea Crockett - Christmas Date
  • Do a Christmas DIY project. Who says guys don’t like to get crafty too? There are so many Pinterest-inspired DIYs to choose from. Maybe you want to decorate ornaments or try out a new recipe? You and your crush can pick you fave!
  • Wrap presents and decorate together. These jobs may seem like a chore, but with your boyfriend or girlfriend it can make it a little more enjoyable!

Hope you have a fun-filled Christmas!

The leaves are done changing and the cold air is unfortunately setting in. Big sweaters and long sleeved shirts just aren’t going to cut it. As much as I love fall, I’m ready to dig out my winter coats! I wanted to share with you five of my favorite styles that are popular and trendy for the upcoming season!

  1. In my recent trip to New York, I tried out a knee-length coat to bear the cold weather in, and I’m absolutely obsessed!Chelsea Crockett - Coat This style of coat is extremely warm… and stylish! I also love the knee-length cardigans. I highly suggest them for not only warmth but so you can rock the hottest trend too :).
  2. Puffy coats have been around for decades, and are still sold almost anywhere. Once again, they’re extremely warm and cute to wear with a stylish pair of boots.
  3. For more on the style side of things, crop jackets are super fashionable for the season. The only downside to these is that they might not keep you as warm! You can always layer or add some warm accessories such as a scarf or earmuffs.
  4. A newer style that I’m starting to see in the fashion world is poncho coats. I’m in love! Despite the fact that they might not seem as warm as they look, they actually are! You can buy them at several stores such as Forever 21 and H&M.
  5. A vintage, timeless style that never seems to go out of style is pea coats. You can find them in any color you can think of. My favorite ones are neutral colors. Tan, black, white, or grey are usually what I shop for!

What’s your favorite type of coat? Let me know below :).

There’s an endless variety of exercise fashion. Nike shorts, Lulu Lemon headbands, and fun water bottles are just a few of the hundreds of popular trends for working out! With winter here, you won’t be wearing many shorts and tank tops on your daily runs. Since the temperatures have dropped, here’s what hot for the cold :)!

  • Patterned running tights are so cute and stylish to exercise in! Chelsea Crockett - Nike Running TightsTights, like the ones on the right, come in tons of different colors and patterns. You can find them almost anywhere including Target, Nike, Under Armour, online, etc. Some leggings are insulated with fur and others have cool reflector patterns so you can run at night! Check them out online or click here :).
  • Ear warmers are some of best things to own in the cold months. My favorite brand to sell these are LuLu Lemon. They have lots of different reversible patterns and colors. They don’t only keep your ears warm but can be worn with outfits apart from exercising!
  • High neckline hoodies and jackets have made a statement this winter. If you’re looking for one, Nike is definitely the place to find it! They have both zip-ups and hoodies that have a high neckline that keeps you warm when you’re out in the cold!
  • Lastly, puffy vests are fashionable and warm for the cold, outside temperatures. Most are insulated and zip up to protect not only your torso, but your neck from the wind and weather, too. You can find lightweight ones that are almost weightless to run in.

What’s your go-to winter exercise outfit? Let me know below!

The Look for Less: Winter Trends Edition

Don’t get me wrong, stylish coats and designer boots are trendy and popular for the cold months ahead. It’s fun to treat yourself and splurge every once in a while! But of course no one can afford to do that every time they need something for winter. So, I put together a little look for less that lets you find coats, boots, and other seasonal necessities for much less!

First comes first, you’ll need boots for any snow you might encounter this season. Hunter rain boots have been popular in the fashion world for a while now, but their prices can be pretty expensive. Chelsea Crockett - Puffy CoatYou can buy rain boots at Target for less than $40! They sell a wide variety of different styles, colors, and patterns. Some as cheap as $20! If you don’t mind spending a little bit more, DSW also has a great selection.

What’s winter without a warm, puffy coat? Prices on coats too can range pretty high. You may be worried about the quality of inexpensive coats but I’m here to help! Brands such as Michael Kors and Patagonia sell super cute styles of winter coats but finding a decent price can be difficult. Burlington and Target both sell good quality coats for a good price. Also, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Kohl’s sell coats that are marked down to wear they’re actually affordable! Check them out!

Let me know where you find the look for less in the comments below!

With every one of my winter outfits, there’s a high chance you’ll find a stylish pair of riding boots or a fancy pair of heeled booties on my feet! My favorite thing about the cold weather is all the different styles and brands of boots to shop from. There are five well-known brands that stick out when I think of good quality, winter boot brands.

  • Timberlands. Timberlands have almost any type of boot from riding to snow. They’re long lasting and perfect for the cold seasons!
  • LL Bean. If you’ve heard of Bean boots, I’m sure you know how fast they can sell out! They have a certain trademark style that everyone loves. They’re warm and comfy, too!
  • Hunter. I know I’ve mentioned these boots in several of my other articles, but they’re just so great! They may be a little pricey, but their quality is excellent! They come in all different colors and styles, whether you want the classic, black knee-highs or matte purple short boots!Chelsea Crockett - Sorel Boots
  • Sorel. Sorel boots may be on the pricier side, but they make for a great Christmas present (such as the pair on the right) :). They’re perfect if you live in a snowy area or the temperatures are extremely low. They have a large variety of styles and colors and are sure to keep your feet warm and dry
  • UGG Australia. We’ve all heard of UGGs. You may’ve even owned a few pairs throughout middle school and high school. If you’re tired of their usual fur boot style, you can get several different styles! Check them out.

What brand is your favorite? Share with me in the comments below!

Dances in the spring and fall can be easy to shop for. The weather’s still warm enough for open-toed shoes and jacketless ensembles. On the other hand, winter dances can be a little tricky. Should you get a short or long dress? Should it be sleeved or sleeveless? I’m here to answer your questions!

  • Short or long dress? Oftentimes, whether you wear a short or long will depend on how formal your winter dance is. Chelsea Crockett - Jacket and DressBut if you can go either or, I suggest a long dress or a short, sleeved dress! This way you can be a little warmer than if you wore a sleeveless, short dress.
  • Inside or outside pictures? Finding a place for pictures is always a struggle. For the cold weather, I definitely suggest finding a pretty place inside to take your pictures. This way you’re not miserable in the cold and you don’t have to worry about any wind, rain, or snow to ruin your night!
  • Jacket or no jacket? This goes back to whether your dress is sleeved or sleeveless. If your dress is sleeveless, then a jacket is a necessity. I suggest either a fancy pea coat or a short, nicer jacket or sweater.
  • Heels or booties? As far as shoes go, it’s up to you! Although it’s cold, heels are still fine to wear to your dance. If you’d rather have closed-toe shoes, buy a pair of heeled booties!

I hope I helped you solve any of your winter dance struggles! Hope you have a fun night :)!

Winter is quickly approaching and sometimes, it can be hard to dress cute with layers upon layers of clothing.  I live in the middle of the Midwest, so we get hit hard with snow storms every year.  Throughout the years, I’ve come across some amazing, warm pieces that everyone needs in their wardrobe.  Who says you can’t dress warm and look cute at the same time?!  Chelsea Crockett- cable knit beanie

  • Sorel boots are amazing! They come in all different styles and can keep your feet warm in negative degrees!   Pair them with tall wool socks and a long sweater.
  • Puffy coats are the definition of warmth. Many designers such as Michael Kors and BCBG have made the puffy coat chic by adding thick gold zippers, buttons, and different lengths.  I LOVE knee length puffy coats!
  • Beanies are fab! They can take any outfit to the next level of street style or grunge.  Try a thick cable knit beanie!
  • Vests are everything! It’s the perfect item to throw on during a chilly day.  If you’re looking for a classy look, add a flannel and some riding boots to the mix.
  • Ponchos are back in! They are absolutely amazing with a long sleeve under and some leather leggings.

Have a fabulous winter, Insiders!

Dresses are my favorite! I hate having to slide them to the back of my closet once the cold weather and snow start to hit. Of course, bright colors and sun dresses probably need to be retired, but you don’t have to quit wearing dresses completely! Check out my favorite ways to rock a dress in the freezing cold!Chelsea Crockett- over the knee boot

The typical way to wear a dress in the cold without freezing is with tights, boots, and a jacket. While this style is classic and always accepted, there are a few fun ways to ditch the tights! Have you ever heard of over the knee boots?! These are great to throw on with a dress and show just enough skin that you won’t get too cold! Another interesting way to wear a dress in the winter is with a tight pair of skinnies. This works best with a flannel or sweater dress (I would not recommend this with a tight dress).

When it comes to a jacket, my favorites to wear with a dress are a classic leather bomber jacket or long knee coat. Totally depends on your mood! Don’t give your favorite dress the boot too soon…you’ve just gained yourself a few more months!

I know plenty of coffee-lovers that look forward to waking up just to get their hands on a good cup!  If you put yourself in this category, this article is for you!  At our house, we buy all kinds of coffees and creamers and experiment with each and every one of them. They’re so good that I thought I’d share with you a few of our faves!Chelsea Crockett - Girl Scout Creamers

Maybe you’d rather grab a Starbucks then make it at home, but it doesn’t have to be that way! Recently, I’ve tried out blueberry flavored coffee. The taste isn’t overbearing but leaves you with a berry aftertaste. Yum! On the other hand, I also like a Nantucket blend with Hershey’s chocolate and caramel creamer.  The choices are endless when buying coffee.  After you pick a couple of flavored coffees, then you’ve got to check out all of the creamers… vanilla/cinnamon, hazelnut, Girl Scout thin mint, Almond Joy…  Whatever flavor you decide upon, you can make it hot or let it cool and add ice.  Either way, it’s fun to explore the world of coffee!

Oh, and the coffee flavor doesn’t end there, it also comes in the form of ice cream, yogurt, and cake!  You can go to the grocery store and bring home some coffee flavored ice cream to try out for yourself. Plus, apart from the amazing taste, coffee can give you a little extra boost to make it through the day.  Tell me about your favorite mix, maybe I’ll give it a try!

Looking back at pictures of my tan skin and lighter hair, winter blues can set in pretty quick. Why not think of some ideas to chase them away? Often during the winter, we sleep more, eat more, and exercise less!  Here are some ways to keep the “winter blues” at bay!

  1. On a sunny day, make the best of it by getting outside to soak in some Vitamin D.  Bundle up, grab your bike, roller blades, running shoes, tennis racquet, etc. (You get the idea!  Use whatever you love!) and go outside to get some exercise.  Just a little time outside can make us dream of those warm sunny days that are just around the corner.
  2. Make an appointment for a facial, pedicure, and/or massage!  It’s always nice to be pampered.  So why not go for it….you deserve it.  I know those appointments can sometimes be expensive.  If that is the case, then call some friends over and look up DIY facials and nail designs.  You pamper a friend and then they pamper you.  Massages are easy with lotion or oil that you already have at home!Chelsea Crockett - Spa Day
  3. Anyone up for a hot tub party?  Make yummy appetizers and fun summer drinks and invite a group of your friends over!  Put on your suits and hop in the hot tub.  If you don’t have a hot tub, maybe one of your friends does.  You and a friend can eat, drink, and soak your blues away!

It won’t be long insiders, spring is just around the corner!  Until then, make the most of your free time by chasing winter melancholy away!

XOXO, Chels

No matter what age you are, you can’t deny your love for one of Disney’s best movies: Frozen. Once you watch this musical, you’ll be asking everyone if they want to build a snowman! I recently came across the cutest recipe on Pinterest, and I wanted to share it with you! Not only do they look good, but they’re delicious as well.

So here’s what you need:

  • ½ a cup of sugar, 3 tablespoons of canola oil, ½ a cup of popcorn kernelsChelsea Crockett - Frozen Popcorn Snowballs
  • 5 cups of mini marshmallows, 4 tablespoons of butter, ÂĽ a teaspoon of salt, ÂĽ a teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 cup of dark blue, light blue, and white MNM’s, (you can also add some sprinkles for fun!)

Directions: To start off you’ll need to make your popcorn (I prefer it on the stove verses microwaving it). Put your kernels in a pot and coat them with the canola oil. Wait till it becomes hot and place the lid on top of the pot. Wait till all your kernels are popped (shake the pot back and forth occasionally) and place your popcorn in a large bowl. Next, take a saucepan over medium heat and mix in your marshmallows and butter. After the mixture is melted, take the pan off of heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Okay, you’re almost ready to dig in! Pour the mixture over the popcorn and add in your toppings (MNM’s and sprinkles). Cover your hands in a little bit of oil (to avoid sticking) and roll the popcorn into balls, depending on whatever size you prefer! Let them cool for about a half hour then go to town! YUM!

Winter: a time when the air gets dryer, the temperatures get lower, and our skin becomes dryer.  Oh the joys of winter!  Most people try to take care of their skin extra well during this time of the year, but many don’t realize that their efforts are actually causing damage to their skin.  Check out these common winter beauty mistakes to make sure you don’t do them yourself!  Chelsea Crockett- over exfoliating

  • Cold winter winds can leave our eyes dry and watery. Unless you plan on wearing sunglasses every time you’re outside, be sure to apply an ultra-rich moisturizing cream in the morning and night to protect your eyes from the chilly temperatures.
  • Did you know that taking a hot shower can actually be bad for your skin? I know I’m guilty of this! The hot winter can pull out moisture in your skin leaving it dry. Instead try a warm shower or be prepared to lather on the lotion.
  • When your skin gets dry and flakey, it’s easy to break out the exfoliator. Exfoliating will remove the dry, dead skin cells, leaving your skin smooth, but over-exfoliating can also get rid of new, healthy cells. Keep the exfoliating to once a week.
  • Replace alcohol based products with hydrating formulas.
  • Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t get sunburned. Never forget your SPF, especially if you live in an area with high elevation.

Love your winter skin!

Holiday Makeup: Ring in the New Year!

New Year’s Eve is one of my favorite nights. It’s a fresh start into a new year filled with many exciting things to come! Whether you’re going to a New Year’s bash or to a nice dinner with your crush, you’ll need glamorous makeup to start off 2015 the right way! Here are a few of my favorite makeup looks that you can try too!

Chelsea Crockett - Holiday MakeupIf you’re one to rock the bold makeup (colorful eye shadows, bright lips), then try pulling off a blue eye shadow. Try using a light blue, shimmer shadow and applying it to your lids. Then, so you don’t go overboard with the blue, apply a white shimmer to your crease. Finish your eyes off with eyeliner and mascara. A nude lip stick and clear gloss will seal your look (or even a red lipstick like Taylor did on the left!).

Like I said before, you have to be the right person to pull off a certain look. If you’ve seen Kylie Jenner’s matte plum lips, you know how gorgeous they look! If you want a darker lip color, try a dark purple. It’s a bold statement but super trendy! Make sure you go light on the eye shadow and blush. You don’t want too much color. Finish it off with a winged liner and a boosting mascara.

A little shimmer and glitter can never hurt on New Year’s Eve! Urban Decay has a product called Moondust in seven different shades. It’s the perfect way to make your eyes pop! (And it looks great with a sparkly dress!)

I hope you all have a happy new year! – Chels
