Winter break is the most awaited time of the semester. After all the tests, homework assignments, and pop quizzes, nothing is needed more than a nice, long break. Although our days off are spent shopping for last minute Christmas gifts and baking sugar cookies, some are filled with long afternoons of boredom. So… here are a few winter-themed “do it yourself” ideas for those dreadful days!

If your friends are in the same boring boat as you, invite them over and have a mini spa day! There are soooo many DIY products that are super fun to make, especially if you incorporate Christmas scents such as peppermint or cinnamon. Recipes for do it yourself lip scrubs or face masks can be found all over Pinterest! How relaxing :)!

If you have a couple old Christmas sweaters laying around your house, this DIY is just what you’re looking for! Instead of letting your worn-out sweater sit and collect dust in your closet, change it into a couple different accessories! If the sleeves are big enough, cut them off and make them into leg warmers! These are definitely back in style, look to the left for example. You can also make it into an infinity scarf! There are many ways to go about this, so find your own way whether it’s using the neck hole or the ends of your sweater.Chelsea Crockett - DIY Leg Warmers

Showing off your art skills is another way to occupy spare time. Buy a canvas and some paints, possibly colors to match your room (or even Christmas colors!). This DIY is open to lots of interpretation. I saw on Pinterest that someone painted their canvas green and red to make a Christmas decoration for their room!

What do you plan on doing over break? Tell me below :)!

The holiday season isn’t only the time for presents and delicious cookies, but for ugly Christmas sweater parties, too! You never know if your crush or secret admirer may be there :). So, apart from the “ugly sweater” part, you may want to look cute and not-so-casual on top of it. Here are some way some ways to dress up your ugly sweater!

  1. Preppy. When people ask for fashion advice, I always give the same answer. Be yourself! Then, throw on a chunky necklace and a pair of heels or flats!

It’s hard to stay warm in the winter, so what better way than throwing on a stylish beanie/hat or throwing up your hood?  Of course this will help keep you warm, but it really messes up your hair (unless of course you’re covering up bedhead.)  If your wish is to keep picture perfect hair, then keep on reading!Chelsea Crockett- winter hats

Start by washing and blow drying your hair…the more volume the better.  Throw some volumizing moose on your roots right after the shower to keep them from going flat.  Synthetic fiber hats make hair extremely static-y.  By sticking to the real stuff, wool or cotton, your hair is more likely to keep its original form.  Make sure when styling your hair to keep it loose.  This means straight or loose curls.  Your hair needs to breathe, so keeping it in a firm style or wearing a tight hair will only cause more creases.  If you do decide to wear a tighter hat, move the hat around every once in a while.  This way it won’t crease your hair.

When times call for desperate measures and your hat does ruin your hair, keep a small bottle of dry shampoo with you in your purse.  This way to can quickly touch it up before getting to where you need to go!  No need to be scared of hats anymore!

Chelsea

Winter is a time when most people’s complexion tends to be lighter.  We spend less time in the sun and more time indoors, therefore the sun hardly reaches our skin.  Lipstick can be a scary thing to try when you’re feeling pale and many colors can wash you out easily.  It’s important to find the perfect winter shade for any occasion.Chelsea Crockett- dark winter lipstick

It’s officially time to put your hot pinks and corals to the side.  Winter is the time to break out deep reds and plum purples.  If you’re aiming for a bold look, try one of these colors with a smoky eye to balance out your face.  In contrast, icy colors such as a cool nude or light pink are also acceptable for a more laid back approach.  Pair this with a shimmery eye and thin eyeliner.  It’s so important to keep a good balance throughout your whole face.  You don’t want one half to be too overdone.  The most important rule when picking a winter color is to avoid warm oranges and hot pinks.  They scream summer!  Don’t get your seasons confused!

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and rock a maroon lipstick.  It will look beautiful!

XOXO,

Chelsea

How to Stay Warm without Losing Your Style

When it’s freezing cold outside, the last thing you want to do is leave your warm, cozy house… But when you’re forced out into the harsh weather, you have to be bundled up from head to toe! Despite the falling snow or bitter winds, you’re going to have to find some ultra-warm clothes to keep warm. Sometimes this makes it harder to keep your style and look fashionable (and who knows, maybe you’re going on an ice skating date?)! With that being said, here are some pointers on how to do just that!

  • Maybe you have a light coat that you want to wear but you don’t think it’ll be warm enough. Layer! You can always wear a long-sleeved shirt underneath a sweater and then you’re stylish coat. Or try finding a fleece zip up or something along those lines to rock underneath!
  • Boots are always the key to keeping your feet warm. Find a stylish pair such as snow boots, combat boots, or booties! Depending on how dressy you’re going, you can always wear a think pair of boot socks to stick out of your fashionable boots.Chelsea Crockett - Snow Boots
  • Accessories are the key to any good outfit, no matter what! So, find a cute scarf, hat, or pair of gloves that match your outfit to spice it up.
  • Lastly, find the perfect coat to seal the deal. Instead of a plain fleece jacket, try rocking a pea coat, puffy coat, or even a fleece or fur vest (cause vests are totally in!).

So whatever the frigid occasion may be, ice skating or maybe a Christmas parade, I hope these help you out!

Winter is in the air, you can feel it!  Where I live, the temperature’s dropping very quickly this season!  One day it’s 55 degrees and the next it’s 20!  I’m always looking for sporty, stylish clothes to keep me warm while I enjoy winter sports like running or ice skating.  Some of my favorite winter brands are Patagonia, The North Face, and Columbia.Chelsea Crockett - Patagonia

These brands offer cute styles of jackets that are form fitting and keep you warm and dry.  The coats are compressible for packing for a snow ski trip and lightweight for just hanging with friends around an open fire.  Many of their styles have removable or adjustable hoods.  The quality of these brands are exceptional.  Their outer shells are often insulated, breathable, waterproof, and most of all….super fashionable!  The choices are endless.

Boots, pants, gloves, hats, etc. are all offered from these companies.  You can’t go wrong with the combination of warmth plus style!  Whatever your sport may be, you will be pleased with the durability and protection needed for outdoor fun.

If you’re into snow skiing or snowboarding, these three brands are 100% the way to go. They have the perfect clothing for you to gear up against the cold (and look cute doing it!). These brands are also perfect for a Christmas gift. Grab a gift card, or a couple cute accessories and you’re set! Who wouldn’t love that?  Check out these brands below!

We’ve all been victims of it…dry, flakey lips.  They’re the worst!  You pile on layers and layers of Chap Stick, and still, NOTHING!  So how can you beat the dreaded winterized lips?  I promise there is a way!

Start off by trying not to lick your lips.  A lot of people think that when they’re lips get dry, then they need to lick them.  Wrong!  This will actually end up drying out your lips more since it is removing your lips natural oils.  Another way to have soft lips is to apply chap stick the right way!  Go for a lip balm that says “moisturizing” or “medicated”.  These types of balms hold moisture in, while repairing the damage.  For extra protection apply a wax or petroleum jelly seal over the top to really set the balm.

Lip scrubs are a great quick fix.  The sugar crystals will gently remove the dead skin, while the oil will replenish moisture and create a soft surface.  Just be sureChelsea Crockett- lip scrub not to over exfoliate.  You don’t want to create sensitive lips!  Get rid of the pesky winter lips by taking care of them the right way!

One of the most annoying things I notice every time winter rolls around is how staticky my hair tends to get!  Every morning when I put on a jacket my hair starts to stand up, so annoying!  I’ve recently discovered some ways to help reduce the amount of static in my hair.  Read below to see how you can put these tips into use!

  1. Use dryer sheets.  Sounds crazy I know, but trust me it works!  Run a sheet through your comb, brush, or even through your hair.
  2. Use metal or rubber combs.  Plastic combs are one of the worst contributors to static, so it makes sense to avoid them!
  3. Try using frizz control hair products such as sprays and serums. Chelsea Crockett - Control Freak Serum These will help reduce the frizz in your hair (obviously), but will decrease the amount of static in your hair, as well.  One product I highly suggest is the Control Freak Serum by Bed Head by TIGI.  To check it out, click here!
  4. Wash your hair with a hydrating shampoo.  Our hair tends to dry-out during the winter months due to the coldness, and dryness of the weather.  You have to keep your hair extra hydrated for a closer step to static-free hair!
  5. Spray your brush/comb lightly with hairspray before running it through your hair.  Then just brush from roots to ends!  It’s that simply!

With these tips you can say good-bye to frizz and hello to static-free hair!

Fake a Summer Tan Even in the Winter!

Hi Girls,

Fall and winter are great times of the year!  Unfortunately, it’s that time when your summer tan fades.  So what should you do to keep that summer glow all winter long?  Check out a few of these beauty tips to get a nice tan without hitting the tanning bed!

In the winter, most of your body is covered up with clothing.  If you’re just looking for a glowing face and not planning on sporting a bathing suit any time soon, then go for a powered bronzer!  Apply your foundation as you normally would and begin highlighting your cheek bones with a bronzer suitable for your skin tone.  Since your skin is lighter in the winter, don’t use your summer bronzer, it’ll be too over powering.  Try a lighter bronzer and after highlighter your cheek bones, apply a small amount to the rest of your face.  To top off your look, use a light pink blush to get that summer shine.Chelsea Crockett- bronzer blush duo

If you want that all around summer glow, go for a tanning lotion!  Try Jergans Natural Glow for a streak free summer tan!  After showering, rub it in like normal lotion and let it dry for about 10 minutes.  You won’t see results right away, so do this every day for about a week!  Don’t go to a tanning bed to get that beautiful summer glow.  Take the healthy route and get the tan you’ve always wanted!

Love you all!

            Hey insiders!

There are many beauty guidelines that we all follow during the winter.  If a fashion magazine says something’s good for your skin, we automatically believe it, right? Have you ever wondered whether they’re actually benefitting us?  Here are a few winter beauty myths everyone should know!

  • Applying lip balm over and over again is good for your lips.  FALSE!  Continuously applying your chap stick can actually harm your lips instead of help them.  They contain an ingredient that tricks you into thinking you need more and more of it, whichChelsea Crockett - Neutrogena Moisturizer is also false.  Try out a lip serum or cream that repairs your chapped, wintery lips.
  • There’s no need for sunscreen during the winter.  FALSE!  Just because the temperature’s lower doesn’t mean your skin’s not soaking up the sun’s rays.  If you can, try using moisturizer with SPF.  Neutrogena carries an oil-free moisturizer with 15 SPF which is just enough to keep you protected.  The sun will hit you just as hard as it will in the summer.  Don’t underestimate the sun!
  • Staying indoors as much as possible during the winter will help your skin.  FALSE!  You need fresh air as much as possible.  Yes, too much cold air can dry out your skin, but over-heated indoors can as well.  Putting a humidifier in your room can add a little moisture to the air and help hydrate your skin.

                                    Hope this helped! – Chelsea

Hey girls!

Boots are the best shoes to own during the winter.  Whether outside is snowy, rainy, or freezing cold, you’ll need a good pair of boots to keep you warm and dry.  There are five types in particular that are a must-have in your closet.

  1. Rain boots.  Chelsea Crockett - Hunter Rain BootsThese boots are perfect for not only rain, but snow, too.  Hunter rain boots are some of the best quality rain boots you can buy.  Although they’re more expensive than regular boots, they come in all different colors and styles.
  2. Combat boots.  These boots have definitely made their mark as a HUGE trend in the past year.  You can find combat boots in every shoe store from DSW to Payless.  They’re just what you need to spice up any outfit.
  3. UGGs.  UGGs are the perfect kind of boots to throw on with a pair of leggings and an over-sized sweater.  If UGGs are out of your price range, try checking out the brand Bear Claw or even Target for some look-a-like boots.
  4. Riding boots.  Riding boots are the perfect type of shoe to pair with a cute jacket and skinny jeans.  The fun thing about these boots is that you can either dress them up or dress them down to go with any outfit!
  5. Heeled Boots.  Since heels and sandals aren’t the best choice to wear in the winter, you have to have a backup pair of shoes to rock with your dresses!  Heeled boots are a super cute substitute for sandals during the cold seasons!

Which type of boot do you prefer?  Let me know below!

Hello Ladies,

Step over boring, old sweaters, the turtleneck is making a comeback!  This chic sweater is making headlines with new ways to rock the typical turtleneck.  Designers everywhere have been coming up with newer versions of the beloved sweater turning it into a teenagers new favorite look.  They’re not just for your grandma anymore!

The crop top, one of the hottest trends this summer, is making its way to the winter season.  Lots of celebs have been seen wearing cropped turtleneck sweaters, which can now be found at stores like Forever21.  They are so trendy and look great with a high-waisted skirt and tights or high-waisted skinny jeans.  If you’re into the more traditional sweater, no worries!  The typical turtleneck is still in style.  Try pairing it with a quilted vest and chunky necklace.  It’s a great sweater to pair accessories with.  If you don’t like something around your neck, try a scoop neck sweater.  It’s like a turtleneck, but has an over-sized neckline.  You won’t feel so confined.  Last but not least, make sure to add a pair of riding boots to your final look.  You can’t go wrong with turtlenecks and boots this season.Chelsea Crockett- crop turtleneck

Step out of your comfort zone and try something new with your wardrobe.  If you’re nervous about stepping out in a turtleneck, then open up a current magazine.  They’re everywhere! You’ll be the trendiest girl out and about.

Love,

What are the two words every teenager longs to hear? “Snow Day”! As you have probably seen on my Instagram, it snowed in my hometown this week! All of the snow got me thinking about what you can MAKE with snow! Did you know that you can make ice cream out of snow? You totally can! Check out the recipe below and try it out!

Ingredients:

-1 gallon of snowchelsea crockett snow ice cream

-1 cup white sugar

-2 cups of milk

-1 tbs vanilla extract

So what you do is you take a big bowl outside with you and scoop some snow (about 2 gallons) into it! Make sure its clean snow, none of that yellow snow ;). Next, stir in the vanilla and sugar to taste.  Gradually stir in the milk so that it does not melt the snow. Once you have reached the consistency that you desire, serve it! This type of recipe should be served immediately after you make it because of the snow. That stuff melts FAST! And, snow ice cream is not really that good if you freeze it to use again. Next time it snows at your house, try out this super unique recipe!

Comment below if you try this yummy winter treat and tell me how you like it!

Hello Lovelies,

This winter is all about the perfect coat.  Since most of your fashionable outfits are unfortunately covered up by your heavy cold weather outerwear, sporting the perfect coat is essential!  So do you choose to wear an old time favorite such as the pea coat, or do you go a little more edgy and rock a grungy army coat?  Let’s check out all of this season’s hottest styles!

Pea coats are an old time classic that will never go out of style.  They come in almost every color and can be long or short.  You can easily throw on a pea coat with just about any outfit, or wear it with a dress and tights for a night out on the town.  One of this season’s cutest coats is a pea coat peplum jacket!  It’s a new twist on the timeless look.  It really puts a girly flair on the already feminine jacket.  Boost your pea coat style by trying out a pea coat peplum.  You can’t go wrong with peplums!Chelsea Crockett- pea coat

Another one of my favorite trends right now is army!  Try an over-sized army green grunge coat this season.  It’s the perfect jacket to throw on anytime.  It can be perfectly paired with combat boots and a beanie, or simply styled with jeans and a black tee.  Unlike the pea coat, this jacket isn’t meant to be worn out to nicer occasions.  It’s definitely got that “street style” flare!  Whether you’re a girly girl, grungy street style seeker, or a little bit of both, there’s a coat out there for you!  Don’t let the cold get in your way… be stylish all winter long!

XOXO,

             Hey girls!
The newest print fad is chevron.  Blouses, maxis, and skirts in chevron are super popular.  If you’re wondering Chelsea Crockett - Chevron Printwhat chevron is….it’s a zigzag print that has been used for decades.  Right now, chevron madness has hit the trendy fashion world. Chevron is not only popular in fashion, but can be found in interior design, architecture, packaging, and advertising.
The chevron pattern is trendy and traditional.  It’s a design staple that is here to stay.  Finding a black and white chevron blouse with a white leather jacket and black skinny jeans will surely help to kick off your holiday look this season.
It would be fun to find a chevron print wrapping paper to wrap your Christmas gifts in. A beautiful bow will top it off.  Even Charlie Brown rocked the chevron print back in the day! Remember, chevron is in.  So enjoy it whether you are wearing it or wrapping gifts!
