Hi Insiders,

Many people hate the winter.  Cold winds, icy roads, and gloomy days are the cause of a bad mood in the winter.  So how can you keep your spirits high in the winter?!  Follow a few of my simple tips to kick away the winter blues.

  1. Keep the smell of peppermint around!  Studies show that the smell of peppermint can increase mood and decrease stress.  Try lighting a peppermint scented candle or rub some peppermint oil around your nose.
  2. Get some sunlight!  Yes, it might be cold, but on sunny days go outside!  Buddle up and go for a walk!
  3. Eat healthy.  Winter includes Thanksgiving and Christmas, which means lots and lots of food.  The average person gains 5 to 6 pounds during the holiday months.  Weight gain can lead to a decrease in mood.  Try to fill up on fruits and veggies.  Your body will thank you!
  4. Treat yourself!  Go get a pedicure or massage, spend your Christmas money and gift cards, or go out for a fancy dinner.  Make yourself feel good!
  5. RELAX!!!
  6. Get enough sleep at night.  When you get around 8 hours of sleep, you are more likely to be energized and happier the next day.  Jump in bed early!
  7. Exercise!  Exercising releases endorphins, hormones in the body that make you feel good and lifts your mood.
  8. Do something good for someone else!  The holidays are all about giving.  Volunteer at a shelter or make your parents a homemade presentChelsea Crockett- peppermint.  They will love it!

Don’t let the cold weather and gloomy days keep you down!  Get out, get up, and do something!  I promise, if you follow these tips, you’ll have the best winter ever!

Love,

Hello Lovelies,

Christmas break is one of the most popular times for vacation.  While many families try to beat the winter cold by hitting the beach, other families enjoy snow skiing or may be visiting families up north.  So how do you pack for a cold winter vacation?  Check out my perfect packing guide.

Packing for a winter vacation can be tough.  Fitting your boots, cold weather outerwear, and clothes in one suitcase can be tricky.  So how can you narrow it down?  Pack the basics!  Black, brown, grey, and white are the first colors you should pack.  One pair of black and brown boots will last you the entire vacation.  They can be worn with any outfit!  When packing coats, think warmth and style.  Bring along you’re warmest coat and your favorite stylish coat, like a pea coat, for nights out.  You never know how cold it’s going to be!  Also, don’t forget your gloves and leg warmers!  A super cute trend this winter is legChelsea Crockett- socks and boots warmers or tall socks sticking out of the top of your boots.  Not only does it add an extra element to your outfit, but it’ll keep your legs warmer.

If you are going on a vacation this Christmas break, have a fabulous time!  Have fun packing!

Love,

                           Hello Insiders!
With snow in the forecast, we all anxiously await a snow day from school.  So when the first snow falls, grab some warm clothes, hot chocolate, and good friends to head outside with.  An unexpected snow day can be the perfect way to explore your creativity!Chelsea Crockett - Snowball Fight
Anyone can make the average snowman but can you think outside of the box?  How about a snow animal or a snow fort?
Be sure to grab a sled and find the biggest hill in the neighborhood!  Even the lid of a trash can makes a great sled.  Everybody’s always up for a snowball fight, right?  It’s fun to build forts and pick teams.  Girls against boys is always the best!Wink
Last but not least, if we get some snow, it’s always cozy to build a fire and roast s’mores to end the day.  Nothing says YUM like a s’more!  Let’s hope for some snow days real soon. Maybe even have a white Christmas!

During these frigid winter months, you pretty much live in a coat. Since your coat is your constant companion, you need to make sure that it flatters your figure so you can look fierce even when it is frigid outside! Here is a guide to which coats flatter your body type!

 Athletic/hourglass figure:

A fit-and-flare coat is your best bet when you have an hourglass figure! Fit and flare coats accentuate your small waist and hide pesky hips. Try coats with belts, they cinch your waist and accent your figure!

Curvy:

For you curvylicious ladies, fitted coats with oversized collars are key. The collar draws attention to your face! Try a coat with a nice statement collar.  Also, coats with subtle ruffles are a good choice. Pretty, short coats are your cup of tea!coat

 Petite:

Choose a jacket that hits at your hipbone, because if the coat is too long it can overwhelm your small frame! The wrong coat style can swallow your petite figure up and make you look shapeless! We DON’T want that! For a coat that’s short but still super-warm, choose a heavy parka or thick puffer coat.

Stay warm, Insiders!

Did you know you could “winterize” your skin? Neither did I! Winterizing your skin is getting it ready for the cold, dry winter months. Let me explain!

1. Lavish your Lips! During the winter months, your lips can get dry and cracked. I’ve got a few ways to keep those kissers nice and moist! The first tip is to keep a good quality chapstick on hand. I recommend Burt’s Bees, because it is natural and high quality! My next tip is to take a soft bristled toothbrush and gently brush your lips with it. Instant exfoliation! After you have brushed your lips, smooth some chapstick over those babies.how-to-treatcure-pleeing-lips

 2. Skip the Steamy Shower! Okay don’t freak out, but hot showers can really strip your skin of moisture! Now I’m not saying take showers that are the temperature of Alaskan ocean water, but maybe turn the heat down just a tad. When you take super-hot showers, it causes your blood vessels to dilate which results in water loss through your skin! So turn those temps down, ladies!

 3. Sensitive skin? Avoid Tap Water! Do you have really dry, sensitive skin? Then listen up! Tap water can contain harsh minerals that are especially drying to the skin. Every state’s water contains different minerals, some harsher than others. To be safe, you can use clensing pads to clean your face, and if you feel your face really needs some TLC, wash it using bottled water.

I am SO ready for fall and winter, and your skin will be too! Do you have any advice on how to winterize your skin? Comment below and fill me in!

XOXO, Chels
