I’ve always heard both amazing and not-so-amazing things about yoga.  Some people swear by it while others don’t give it the time of day.  I’ve always wondered why some people use it as their main form of exercise so I decided to do a little research!  Here’s why you should check out yoga for yourself! 🙂

  • It increases your muscle strength.Chelsea Crockett - Yoga Believe it or not, yoga isn’t all about relaxing.  It actually takes a lot of strength and can challenge you more than you expect.  There are lots of different moves that require strength endurance and strong muscles!
  • It straightens your posture. I know for me I could use a little help on my posture!  Yoga helps align and strengthen your spine which, in turn, strengthens your posture.  I never even thought about that but it really does help!
  • It increases your ability to focus. Yoga takes a lot of focus on your breathing and movements.  One of yoga’s biggest purposes is to learn how to focus on the present and relax!  Studies have actually shown an increase in coordination, focus, memory, and other things, as well!
  • It helps the upkeep of your joints. Along with an increase in flexibility, yoga moves your body in ways it isn’t used to moving in.  It helps move your joints in several different motions which helps loosen and stretch them out and makes them even healthier!

Get out of bed and get your stretch on!  You won’t regret it!

Yoga is one of those workouts that is much easier said than done. You may think it’s all stretching and relaxing until you finally try it out for yourself! As relaxing as it is, I thought I’d come up with a few tips to make sure you get as much out of your workout as you can… and to make it a little less hard on your body! Chelsea Crockett - Yoga Pose

  • Balance is one of the hardest parts about yoga. You have to be able to hold the poses in order to get anything out of the exercise. This is what the meditation and relaxation is for! Once you’re 100% focused, it’s easier to concentrate on your balance.
  • Breathing is one of the most crucial steps when it comes to relaxation. Of the few times I’ve actually done yoga, knowing when and how to breathe is very important! Take a few breaks throughout your workout to simply sit, breathe, and relieve stress.
  • One of the things I notice when I do yoga is pain in my wrists. A lot of the poses require using your hands to hold your body weight up. If they start bothering you, use your fingers more than your palm to hold you up. This will alleviate some of the pain!
  • Make sure you have the proper attire and equipment. A mat, water, and comfy/stretchy clothes are important not to forget! A sticky mat that has some grip will make your workout easier and comfier to hold poses.

Let me know what other tips you have for yoga beginners :)!

Working out has become a big deal.  Everyone is trying to eat the healthiest, become the fittest, and discover the best type of workout plan.  While running and lifting weights are great, yoga seems to top them all!  It’s a great way to burn calories, build muscle, and relax the mind.  Find out why yoga is the most relaxing workout you’ll ever have!Chelsea Crockett- yoga

Yoga uses specific techniques to focus on your breathing which calms the mind.  It’s a way to release tension from all muscle groups, including your brain.  This, in turn, can actually boost confidence!  Another great benefit from yoga is that it’s a long-term workout.  Unlike running and lifting which can eventually wear down your joints, yoga has a low injury rate and can be practiced for years and years.  It also increases flexibility!

Like other forms of workout, it can help you lose weight and improve muscle tone and strength.  Yoga targets hard to reach muscles…some you may not even know existed!  Give yoga a try, especially if you’re looking for a new way to spice up your workout routine.  Your body and mind will be happy!
