Tattoos are a HUGE fad these days! This subject can sometimes be tough, because there is such a debate on
it! The Bible mentions tattoos just once, at Leviticus19:28, which says: “You must not put tattoo marking upon
yourselves.” God gave this command to the nation of Israel, which set them apart from the neighboring peoples
who marked their skin with the names or symbols of their gods. Some people get tattoos to establish their
identity or to show people who they are. However, the Bible encourages Christians to “Present your bodies a
sacrifice living, holy, acceptable to God, a sacred service with your power of reason.” (Romans 12:1) Use your
“power of reason” to analyze why you want a tattoo. If it is because you want to follow a trend, remember that
your feelings may prove to be less permanent than the tattoo, meaning that you might really want one now, but
will you want it 30 years from now? I know that they can be cute sometimes, but think about 30-years-from-now
you! Is the “mom” version of you really going to want a giant flower tattooed across her back? UMMMM I think
NOT! Before getting inked, just think “do I really want to see this picture on my body every day for the rest of my
life?” If there is any hesitation, don’t do it!
Don’t get me wrong, I love looking at some people’s cool tattoos! I am just filling you in on what the Bible says
about them, so if someone ever asks you what the Word of God has to say on the subject, you can fill them in!
